Winter Window
Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket. So good, as always, to be with you on this eighth day of December, 2010, coming to you LIVE from the little, tiny, tiny seaside village of Osterville, Massachusetts…The air is very cold outside, and as you look at the Cardinal outside of my bedroom window, who eats the berries on my rose bush, I want to wish you and yours a very warm and happy day, hoping that the Christmas spirit is reaching into your heart and soul, for we ALL need those berries offered by nature, just as much as our fine, feathered friend who crowns winter like no other animal on this little blue rock we ALL call earth and HOME for the moment. The reality of President Obama’s speech yesterday, regarding the much maligned controversy of the BUSH era tax cuts, all comes down to this–he made the best deal he could with, lest we forget, a party who is now famous for saying NO to everything he has tried to propose for said, ad nauseum, “The American People…” So, I will not get on the band wagon with the rest of my progressive colleagues, although I agree with their premise with a whole heart, as I have been writing about it for over a year now, that giving money to people who have more than most, should, indeed, give more, especially in the spirit of CHRIST himself, the reason for this holiday to begin with, for it will serve no real purpose in end, holding the very people they represent and supposedly care for, hostage, so that the richest corporations can continue with their sojourn of raping and pillaging OUR land, all in the name of “PROFIT OVER PEOPLE”… The real spirit of Christmas is knowing that we are ALL one and, indeed, live in ONE boat. As I watched “Morning Joe”, only on MSNBC, with our friends Mika and Joe, Willy and Mike, this morning, I witnessed one man whom I just wrote about only a few days ago, Mr. Ted Turner, the creator of cable news and a real humanitarian who has taken his billions and put them to good use for the people of the world with whom we all share. He spoke, only a few moments ago, about CLIMATE CHANGE and how that “theory” is paramount for our survival as a species. It is not very sexy, the whole “science” thing of the very real warming of the earth, which is changing weather patterns all over the world. The increasing temperatures at both poles, melting the ancient ice caps and glaciers, the real moderating factors that keep winter, well, winter and summer, summer, are vanishing. The consequences of that phenomenon is dire, coming in the form of droughts, floods, rising sea levels, disease, wildfires, and ultimately the inability of man to grow FOOD, creating world wide famine and then, following the path of the POLAR BEAR, the demise of every person on this beautiful planet WE ALL SHARE–rich and poor alike. I only hope that WE collectively, WAKE UP, sip that “morning Joe”, smell that proverbial coffee and change this insane ignorance before we all have to answer our grandchildren who will be asking the question, “why the heck didn’t you do something about this obvious problem before it was too late?” Grandchildren that “men” like Boehner and McConnell, “the mouse”, do not really care about, as evidenced by their ACTIONS! Have a great day and keep the faith of the season… creative intelligence comes through in the end and LOVE always conquers…for if you take the time to think about it, what words can you recall from over 2000 years ago, other than those from a poor Jewish carpenter who said, “LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as I have loved you.” PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS!
