“Will there be Swans?”…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:33 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the foggy, rainy, warm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on an early Monday morning, the 21st day of May, 2012, LIVE here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, just stepping in from the deck where I was looking out onto the boats slowly gathering numbers in that bay of the same name, a foggy bay with the rain just now developing as I write these words.  Of course, this past week end was one for the record books, in a good way this time, for the sun was out, the air was brisk, and as you can SEA below you, little girls were playing on the beach, a clear sign that summer was indeed just around the corner.  A famous movie, circa 1994, called “When a Man Loves a Woman”, starring Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia, perhaps took this authors heart away forever in a famous scene that showed the father and husband, Andy, talking to his daughter at her school, telling her that he is about to go on a big trip, not his normal job ‘trip’, as they liked to call it, being a commercial airline pilot, no, this was a trip for good.  He was leaving due to problems in a marriage that were beyond his control.  As he choked back tears trying to his communicate with his little girl, who clearly did not understand, being the same age as those girls on Dowses Beach in Osterville again you see below you, a few moments of ‘awkward’ silence passed by, and then the little girl asks, “cat got your tongue?”.  Crying and laughing at the same time, all he could do was shake his head and tell her that he loved her very much and that he was sorry, that it had nothing to do with her and that she and her sister could visit him anytime and he would come and visit them, because, as a pilot, he could get ‘lots of free tickets…’, and then she asked that magical question that could break the meanest politician, lawyer, oil and gas exec, and dare I say even banker, when she simply says, “will there be swans?”. I don’t know about you, but I CARE that people are hurting out there in ‘the good ‘ole US of A’ and it is HIGH time WE all WAKE UP and smell that proverbial coffee, noting in the voting booths this fall as necessary, that the people, ALL the people, especially the ‘little people’, per the directive of the man most in political power today claim to follow and worship, matter a whole lot more than a few wealthy aristocrats who don’t know the price of a gallon of milk.  Moreover, I would hope that some of my wealthy friends would come to understand that if WE keep allowing big polluters continue running rough shod over this beautiful land of ours, from SEA to shining SEA, for their PROFIT, not OURS, that question posed by that little girl to her father might just be a big fat no.  And that my dear readers from around this beautiful world of ours would be the greatest tragedy of ALL.  Have a nice day folks and week ahead, more birds tomorrow, same bat time same bat channel! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
