Wellfleet

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:05 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  So good, as always, to be with you on this gorgeous July first morning, with the sun out in full force, cool temperatures and, as evidenced by the photo of Wellfleet above, a town on the upper arm of the Cape, the flowers are out in all of their spectacular color, offering dashes of brilliance every where you look.  So come on down to the Cape and Islands, we will leave the LIGHT on for YA!  Hope you have some good plans for the July fourth week end, I plan to do as little as possible, save biking around Osterville in search of the new Adam Sandler movie that is being filmed all month here in this little, tiny, tiny town only a mere football toss away from Hyannis Port, former home to the thirty-fifth President of the United States, Jack Kennedy and his beautiful wife Jackie, not to mention the very special siblings he had, his mother and father, along with all of the people in this New England state, so deep and rich with American history, Massachusetts, that he touched.  Massachusetts, the real home to the towns of Lexington and Concord, where a battle of monumental significance took place, marking the catalyst that began the war, a Revolutionary war that was fought on the philosophy of FREEDOM, JUSTICE and LIBERTY from all forms of tyranny.  I watched a documentary movie on HBO recently that I believe was called “One Thousand Pictures”, a film about “film”, very literally, as a photographer took the train, in 1968, that held the body of Robert Kennedy after he was assassinated in a hotel restaurant after a Presidential campaign speech, traveling from New York City to Washington D.C., a day that was captured by a man with a camera, images that will haunt me forever.  These images were all, of course, still frame, catching the moment in “time” forever as well.  Tens upon thousands of people–black, white, rich, poor, women, men–all gathered along the train tracks to watch the floating funeral procession go by.  Stunned looks of sadness prevailed on most of the faces, with hot tears streaming down from their collective eyes, for they KNEW what Bobby Kennedy stood for, believed in and championed, a true CHAMPION of the PEOPLE, and when he was gone, the people felt a tremendous void, as if they had lost a member of the family, a brother in the truest sense of the word.  You see, the people of this great nation have a sixth sense of those aforementioned words, JUSTICE, LIBERTY, FREEDOM, and KNOW when someone is lying to them.  Bobby Kennedy knew that, and spoke to the heart of our nation’s consciousness, ringing TRUE time and time again, as he followed his older brother’s footsteps in the quest to become the thirty-seventh President of the United States of America.  For he knew that this country had a bright future based on the diversity of our culture, hence it’s strength.  He knew that trampling on people’s God given rights was wrong, and that the ruling elite must play by the rules set up by our forefathers, men like Jefferson, Adams, Washington, Paine, Franklin and Lafayette, who although French, was instrumental in defeating the British.  He knew that the social programs set up only a few years before his death, Medicare and Medicaid, were just and right, serving our seniors and the poor and giving them voice when they have none to begin with.  He knew it was wrong to manipulate the financial systems, he knew it was wrong to pollute the environment for political or monetary gain, he knew it was wrong to destroy public education, unions and important programs designed for the public’s safety and the protection of the environment, planet earth, such as the EPA, NOAA, and the National Weather Service.  He knew it was wrong to discriminate on the basis of the color of one’s skin, their religious affiliation, their sexual status, their sexual orientation, their financial soundness, or their place in the society WE created 236 years ago.  He knew it was wrong to fight wars against other sovereign nations, when the protagonists of those conflicts were not thinking of this country’s current condition, rather, thinking only of themselves and their friends, the ruling elite of corporate America, sticking together as ‘one’, as they speak in talking point tongues for “the American People”, in so many dog whistles, whose only real agenda is to keep the military industrial complex, as well as the corporate modus operandi, “Profit over People”, alive and well–feeding the big contractors, big banks, big oil, big insurance, big pharma, big coal, big chemical and big ‘natural gas’ all the right legislation, breaks and ‘rules’ that favor the status quo–rules designed to benefit only those at the very top, rules designed to profit those at the top, destroying the fantasy notion of ‘trickle down’ or voodoo economics forever.  He knew it was wrong to not take care of the very ‘lowest’ among us–he comprehended what Jesus said when he uttered the words– “what you do for the least of me, you do unto me.” On this birthday of our beautiful and glorious country, may WE all take a step back from the madness, created out of whole cloth by irresponsible ‘news’ organizations, (that are owned by the coming Plutocracy) that claim fairness and balance, when, in reality, they only serve to offer fear, confusion, misinformation and, in some cases, out right LIES, designed to manipulate the public discourse via a muddy trough of filthy, unfiltered water, or ‘fracking’ fluid, via the brother’s KOCH if you will, chalk full of those 596 deadly chemicals.  When we take that step back, take that deep breath, and focus OUR attention on principals, as opposed to personalities, WE all come closer to seeing a solution, and by doing so, automatically begin uncovering the PROBLEM that has been staring us in the face for over 30 years.  Bobby Kennedy had it right, and although he is no longer with US physically, his spirit LIVES on in all of US, should we choose the right path… Have a wonderful day, and even better week end–“Be safe out there amongst the English”… (credit the great film, “Witness”, starring Harrison Ford).  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
