Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cloudy, raw island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Friday morning–the 1st day of May, 2015–Happy May Day! A rather cool one out on the Hyannis/Hyannis Port Waterfront(s), a good day to paint the living room and get ready for the warmer weather to come…
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I) has made his announcement that he is running for president, and I am sure it will come as a shock to anyone who follows Sea Cape Cod that we endorse him full throttle. The fact that this very good man has dared to bring up income inequality, serving a system that is unsustainable (i.e.,the top 1 percent owning more than the bottom 90%), for much longer in this nation speaks volumes and will propel the conversation that has been long overdue. A man whose top campaign contribution topped the 50,000 dollar mark via a mechanics union, thus proving he is not in bed with Wall Street money. A man whose vision of investing a trillion dollars in OUR nation’s infrastructure–creating 13 million new jobs, lowering emissions, improving the overall economy, thwarting calamity and connecting the country in a more intimate way–opens up ones eyes to the possibilities of real change. For example, breaking up the big banks, while reinstating the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act (signed into law by then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt), effectively eliminating all unnecessary risk every day Americans take daily in their 401(k)’s, thus forcing Wall Street to be accountable once again–accountable their actions.
The days of big bail outs are over!
Yes, here is a man who really cares about all of US; not just those at the top. Most of whom got there not with ‘hard work and playing by the rules’, no sir! They reached that pinnacle–laden with money–the old fashioned way; they inherited it…
So as we learn more about Freddie Gray’s killer/killers’ coming indictment–God be with the people of Baltimore– chew on this for a moment. Can the status quo of stagnant wages since the first days of President Ronald Reagan and the lack of opportunity continue in a free and fair democracy with that little letter ‘d’?
Have a great week end folks!
PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
