The sun will rise

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:18 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this very cold Monday morning here in Osterville, the little seaside village a stone’s throw away from Hyannisport, home to the former President of the United States, Jack Kennedy, his wife Jackie and a group of people who, again, gave much more than they took from this country.  I bring that up, again, because it SHOULD be brought up, as we all recover from the “Sunday Morning” talk shows that, at least for this past week, were, in a word, extraordinary.  On ABC’s “This Week, with Christiane Amanpour”, was Mika, from “Morning Joe”, Brzezinski’s father, Mr. Brzezinski to you and me, who spoke volumes about Afghanistan and asked the question of what our real “mission” IS there, and the confusion that lies within that matrix.  Words were spoken about DADT and the previous congressional “meeting” with military brass who spelled out, in no uncertain terms, just how outdated that notion really is.  On NBC’s “Meet the Press, with David Gregory”, were some heavy hitters, such as Mike Murphy, a republican strategist and a friend from my days at University of Vermont, whom I actually spent the weekend with, along with a crew of our college buddies, on the great island of Nantucket, during Christmas Stroll week end, who, although I completely disagree with, policy wise, spoke to the true nature of President Obama’s “situation” with Senate and House republicans who are holding unemployment benefits and tax breaks for ordinary “American People” hostage, much like a Stockholm Syndrome, in order to pass a 700 billion dollar, 4.1 trillion really, tax break for the wealthiest among us, money BORROWED from CHINA and the like, to the tune of interest payments of forty cents on the dollar, all while crying, “we have to stop passing policy unless it is PAID for”… enough to make me literally break out in laughter, so much so, I had coffee coming out of my nose.  I want to go on record here, however, and say I am proud of real men, like Joe Scarborough, who is also a republican, for seeing the LIGHT and explaining on this morning’s show, just a few moments ago, that this is easy to understand and that the President needs to step up and use his bully pulpit to explain what is so clear to all of US, those in the media at least, explain to the “American People” whom he was elected to represent…not the hedge fund managers who live in Greenwich, Connecticut and qualify as a “small business”, a small business that makes over a billion dollars a year…explain, again, as if we were all five year old, what the heck is really going on.  Somewhere along the line, the President has lost his way and it begs the question, “what happened?”  What happened to the strong message of HOPE and CHANGE?  Did someone get to him?  Was he told that if he did not play ball that he would be hurt politically, or worse, and that threat put him in a position of fear rather than following his convictions that he spelled out to clearly in the 2008 election cycle?  Stockholm Syndrome, of which I have been writing about for over a year now, is a scenario where the captors, in this case the republican party who act as puppets for big business globally, have hijacked the system and put it’s “captives” in a prison of fear and moreover, a position where they “feel sorry” for their captors, thus putting them in a position of power, a position they wanted all along.  Holding up the unemployment benefits, to over 2 million people during Christmas, is right out of a Jimmy Stewart movie, namely, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, where Mr. Stewart was pitted against the evil Mr. Potter, who lived only for the almighty buck and took a big dump on his fellow citizens, the people whom he shares this LIFE with, on a little blue rock I call EARTH.  So, stay tuned folks, it is going to be a bumpy ride, although, keep in mind that it is only turbulence, air, and even though it feels like the plane will break apart, it will not, for the mettle of the “American people” and more importantly, the spirit that they represent, will not break and will not fail to reach it’s destination.  Have a wonderful week and may GOD, creative intelligence, or whatever is really driving the ship be with the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, this Christmas season and forever.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
