‘The First Monday in October’

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:56 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the super, duper island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this Monday morning, the third day of October, or, ‘The First Monday in October’, which is, of course, the title to a great Walter Matthau film, as well as the first day of the ‘new year’ for the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court, where nine appointed Justices, appointed for life I might add, take the OATH to uphold the Constitution of this great land and be the most FAIR and BALANCED minds in our society, high above any perceived conflicts of interest, with a keen eye on this nation’s people, it’s laws, our land, air and water, and our way of life above all else… I wonder if the ‘Robert’s court’ got that memo?  Regardless, the court will be very busy this year, with everything from abortion, immigration, gun laws, the Affordable Health Care Law, specifically, the national mandate put in place to make it work to begin with, among others, on the table, as we politically heat up going into the first primaries that look as if they may impede many journalist’s holiday plans this year.  Looking back at the past decade, in regard to the Supreme Court, one could argue that this great institution has become increasingly polarized, ever leaning more to the right, and thus, has bridged that gap whereupon the corporate entity, which is merely a piece of paper, has actually, for purely political reasons, thanks to the 2010 Citizens United case, become a much more powerful voice than our traditional means of voting a man or woman into a great place of power.  That is disturbing, especially when one of those individuals may have the opportunity to actually become the 45th President of the United States, i.e., Willard, “corporations are people too”, Romney, or “Mitt”, as his followers and loved ones, I assume, call him.  When you have enormous amounts of monies coming into the campaign coffers of what one could reasonably call puppet politicians, you got a problem Houston!  Not only are these monies coming in from domestic channels, they are also coming in from foreign nationals, by way of the globalization of commerce on planet earth in this first part of the twenty-first century.  How can ‘we defend against enemies, both foreign and domestic’, when that line has been blurred by secret funds coming in from all angles to benefit politicians who, if elected, will do the will of the very people who ‘donated’ all of that money.  The tired old cliche of ‘conflicts of interest’ has never looked so fresh.  Many in the press, such as Joe Scarborough, of “Morning Joe”, who I like very much, a fine morning alternative to say the fun fact show of ‘FOX & FRIENDS’, those zany, kooky, madcap kids!, state that ‘this President (Barack Obama) has taken more money from Wall Street than any other President’, which may be true, but, in comparison to the VAST monies coming in from the likes of say, a David Koch, who were the architects of ‘the tea party movement’ and Citizens United, it pales, for Obama relied mostly on individual donors in his 2008 bid, who gave what they could, and thus, provided a more personal commitment that spoke from the heart and soul of his campaign, a campaign and current administration which certainly had and has more to do with the people of this nation, than it does with ‘the corporation’, corporations who, for the most part, care only about the bottom line, their bottom line, not the country that helped them get there, “there” being defined as successful, flush with cash, and a good bet for the future.  So, really Joe, it is not an ‘apples to apples’ comparison, is it?  It would not be too unreasonable to suggest that this country–as “Occupy Wall Street”, a real grass roots protest/movement, enters it’s third week, gaining strength nationally against this blind greed that is ruining the very fabric and soul of this once great, proud and strong nation–may have a meltdown, socially, in the next year or so, as more and more people, from every walk of life, are rendered homeless, hopeless, and jobless, wondering where they are going to scrounge up their next meal.  This is NO JOKE and the national media should be ashamed of themselves for their lack of insight into this most pressing matter, perhaps one the most dyer situations this young country has ever faced.  For where are the jobs really going to come from?  We are so hell bent on creating more pollution, by way of the tar sands project that one scientist described, if this project is completed, “will be the end of our environment as we know it”, we will be way behind the green curve set by China now, and the folks smart enough to invest in green technology and energy, will be looking well beyond the United States of America for leadership and a home for that investment, and WE will have missed yet another opportunity to lead the world in one of the only remaining ‘job markets’ left out there, unless you count the derivatives market on Wall Street that is doing just fine, thank you very much.  Mark these words, as we get closer to judgement day, November 2012, ‘the American People’ ARE going to see the LIGHT and thus, JUDGE these candidates and this ’system of governing’ accordingly, for ‘they’ cannot hide the TRUTH from anyone with half a brain any longer.   William Shakespeare said it best over 500 years ago, six simple words to live by, “the truth shall set you free”… Have a nice day and week ahead, and please visit me on twitter, should you desire, @mosier.michael, or check out the new video blog on seacapecod.net, coming soon, created for your listening and viewing pleasure, and yes, I promise, it will be very funny. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
