The Day After

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:07 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cool, foggy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, the 3rd day of March, 2012, a drizzly, foggy affair on Cape, as the devastating aftermath of yesterday’s outbreak of a multitude of deadly tornadoes leads the news this morning.  Those horrific tornadoes touched down in at least six states over the Midwest and South all day and into the night yesterday, killing at least 31 people, with some towns, such as Henryville, Indiana, literally wiped off the map.  The damage is breathtaking, as one heart just breaks open when listening to a young girl talking to a reporter who stated frantically, “…I’ve got to go, I’ve got to find my mom, my brother, my sister, my dad…!”. Survivor after survivor of this unusual tornadic activity in the first part of March tells the same story of the storms sounding like a oncoming freight train, with debris flying everywhere, as if, one girl said, “we were in a dream…”. Our deepest heart felt sympathies goes out to all the victims of this most recent outbreak of severe weather in the nation’s heartland, may your recovery be swift, and your burden light. Still want to ‘embrace’ that pipeline Bill?  This most recent outbreak of storms is just another example of how the earth’s ever warming temperatures due to the constant release of millions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, changing the climate, impacts REAL PEOPLE, begging the questions–”Are we Ostriches?  Do we put our head in the sand to avoid the OBVIOUS consequences of man’s activity on planet earth?  Is our energy policy worth the price?  Do we have a say over the powerful energy companies, who are making money hand over fist, while the world is melting?”  The earth and it’s overwhelming majority would love to know.  Turning to another $hit storm, a real $hit storm if you know what I mean, Rush Limbaugh has managed to piss off every woman who is not of the “Stepford Wives” variety.  From California to New York, with Senator’s Barbara Boxer and Kristen Gillibrand leading the way, women of this country are standing up to this BULLY, whose nose is about to be bloodied, financially and professionally speaking, who has, as the ’spiritual’, that term used VERY loosely, and ‘intellectual’ leader of this impotent republican party, viciously taken aim at a very brave 30 year old Georgetown law student, Sandra Fluke, attacking her character because she dared stand up and testify at the California congressman Darrell Issa’s witch hunt on contraception the other day on Capitol Hill, a ‘meeting of the minds’ as it were, with five men speaking on behalf of women’s reproductive rights, their rights to birth control and the like, all in the name of ‘religious freedom’.  Rush and his pals who ‘think’ like him are in it deep, but that is not the worst part of this story, no, the worst part is the lack of repudiation on behalf of the republican establishment, that looks, these days, more like a scared grouping of old, white men who are out of date, out of touch, and, in some cases, out of their f$cking minds!  Have a nice day and for more, tune into to MSNBC this a.m., starting at 8 with the very fine news program, “UP, with Chris Hayes”, followed by “The Professor”, Melissa Harris-Perry, whose show, “MHP”, drives the whole point home, leaving one richer for the experience.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
