“The Ancient Path”

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:06 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again, sunny, mild, seasonably temperate island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Thursday morning, the fifth day of April, 2012, a beautiful day on Cape, with a nice breeze blowing in from the cool waters of Cotuit Bay, yes, that’s right, I have said it before and I will say it again, Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, the best kept secret on Cape Cod!  Wish you were here, as we all, I mean all of US gosh darn it, celebrate the Mitt Romney media and republican establishment detente on who is going to go up against ‘the champ’, President Barack Obama, in the Fall, a tough road to hoe for any republican, as the shift in not only demographics, but the awakening of female voters in this fair land has already taken place, thus, making it all that more difficult for a rich, white male to CONNECT with anyone other than the members at Augusta National, as those fine golfers from around the world get ready to tee up right about NOW.  Watch out for the twisters that could be in your area today boys!  Seriously. Couple that with Mitt’s wealth and his true vision of where he wishes to take America and well, you get the picture.  It will not only be tough to connect with voters, but it will also be interesting to see who his running mate will be in the coming days and weeks ahead, presuming it will take that long.  Paul Ryan seems to be the one guy who Mitt would want in the general as his partner for the big dance, but many believe Ryan and his ‘budget’, aimed at the poorest of the poor, by way of decimating Medicaid as we know it today, a real life line for those who will not be attending ‘The Masters’ today or the rest of the tournament for that matter, makes him a liability rather than an asset, so he’s out, hmmmm, Marco “Polo”, Rubio?  Doubtful, his Cuban-American background would sway his political purpose–were he picked to be the VP in said race–as the “Latino” in the race, again, he is not an Anglo-Saxon, republican strategists are toying with the notion that he may push Mexican-American and other Hispanic Americans into that fairly narrow republican camp.  This is highly doubtful, as Mitt has already goofed on the whole immigration debacle in this country right now, goofing when he tore down former republican candidate for president Texas governor Rick Perry, who offered his real heart when it comes to this heartbreaking and contentious issue of comprehensive immigration reform.  The real problem Mitt has though, aside from all of that, is the fact that the republican party has alienated women in this country BIG TIME–overall health care issues, fair wages, and their legitimate fear of some rich white guy(s) telling them what they can and cannot do with their own bodies, a fear they hold should he be elected to the highest office in the land.  When Mitt said, “Planned Parenthood?, Oh, we’re going to do away with that…”, he had no idea what kind, and how big, a can of worms he was opening, for millions of women in this great nation depend upon that institution for basic health care needs, and the cost of that vital program is pennies compared to the amount of money we spend on defense, an area ‘ole Mitt has pledged to bolster should he be elected to that highest office the United States of America has to offer–the Presidency. One thing is for sure, we are all saddened by the fact that this never ending republican race for the White House is over, what is the media going to do for the next five months?  Talk about Mitt’s experience in France when he was a missionary for the Mormon church?  I put it to you Bill Maher! What’s the story with the magic underpants? I was in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2004, part of the Odyssey of “Taking Fog to Nantucket”, and had the opportunity to visit the Mormon Conference Center.  It was a cold, raw snowy day in late October, a winter I will never forget, as it snowed forty days in a row, and I ventured in with my backpack and was warmly welcomed.  Being a pretty good practicing Catholic, as far as my hypocrisy will take me that is, I initially felt like a fish out of water, but took the tour anyway.  I was glad I did. The building is awe inspiring, with water falls on the top, grand murals of peaceful scenes adorning the walls, giant paintings here and there, with the centerpiece being the giant organ where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings, singing to an audience in an auditorium that rivals New York City’s finest opera houses, such as ‘the Met’.  The sounds of that choir singing at Christmas, with the world class light show of Salt Lake City adorning the snow covered boulevards, as wide as the Utah sky, is something to behold and experience for oneself.  Therefore, I would conclude, especially during Holy Week around the world, during the Season of Easter, the true celebration of rebirth and renewal, of redemption and awakening, ‘ole Mitt can’t be all that bad, and we should not look to demonize the man for believing in what he believes in.  We just don’t have to agree with those policies, and like I said in a blog only few days ago, and Mitt repeated, ironically, or serendipitously, depending on your ‘perspective’, yesterday in a speech, “…this election is about PRINCIPALS, not personalities, it is about FREEDOM and LIBERTY…”. I could not agree with you more Mitt.  Happy Easter to you and your family. To the rest of the readers of this daily ‘blog’, only on seacapecod.net, I wish you ALL a wonderful day, as well as a good rest of the week.  We are all one in spirit, when the other hurts, we somehow hurt, even if we deny it…it is only human that we reach out in compassion and concern for our fellow man, for it is in him that our salvation rests.  The path may be dark and daunting, but the light and rest is clear for ALL to sea on the other side… PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
