“Take me to your leader!”

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 2:19 pm

Greetings (earthlings!) and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the super sunny and still mild, calm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this spectacular Thursday morning, the 13th day of November, 2014, another gorgeous one out there, take your pick of positive adjectives, and I can attest to the fact because this reporter just returned from the marsh you SEA below, a marsh that is worth saving for sure…

Two rather earth shattering events happened yesterday, the first being the amazing lunar landing like feat of putting a small probe on an asteroid traveling at about 88,000 miles per hour, the equivalence of striking a golf ball and hitting the moon, times the power of ?

The European Space Agency’s Rosetta Space Probe on Wednesday successfully deployed its robotic lander Philae on the comet ‘67 P’ Churyumov-Gerasmenko after a 4 billion mile journey that began in 2004.  Landing on what is essentially a giant ball of dust and ice, compiled with the stuff of our physical universe, called by many`star dust. When the earth was created, roughly 4.6 billion years ago (or less than 6000 years if you are a creationist; ‘time’/reality continuum really not mattering anyway), it was rocked by millions of asteroids that carried what most scientists believe to be the water in our vast oceans, covering 70 percent of the earth’s surface today.  The world will most likely know more about this thing we call the human race and the origin of this planet and the universe at large because of the WILL and genius of these brave men of science–who are truly ‘going further than man ever dared to go before’!

Thank you James, may I call you James?  No, Captain Kirk is preferred?  So be it.  However, Beam me up Scotty! After this next story, it appears that there really is no intelligent life down here anymore on planet earth!  Save our pals aforementioned, have them beamed up as well!

Case in point, this beautiful ‘agreement’ between China and the United States yesterday (in China), brokered by the Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang and the President of the United States, Barack Obama. Sitting down and discussing what WILL be the hot topic for the rest of this century and beyond–the ever warming CLIMATE (and the devastating consequences of inaction) –with the U.S. committing (assuming the reasoned U.S. Congress will abide) to cut it’s green house gas emissions by a third by the year 2025, as China caps it’s emissions by the year 2030.  China stating they need a little more time to ‘play catch up’, which is fair if you think about it, as the U.S. accumulated most of it’s wealth during the Industrial Revolution to wit China and other countries are just emerging, but still wanting to change quickly to a more green future, due to huge air pollution problems in say, Beijing for example.

All well and good if this country was not about to be led by a bunch of insane climate deniers such as our good buddy from the great state of Oklahoma; give it up for the willful ignorance and blind loyalty to big oil and gas Mr. James, ‘climate change is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on ‘the American People’, Inhofe, a real honest to God U.S. Senator (and a maniac pilot!), who has been put in charge–via the equally moronic new U.S. Senate majority ‘leader’, ha!, Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell (R-KY)–of the Senate’s ever more important position of Chairperson of the ‘Environment and Public Works Committee’, where I assume he will just continue sticking his head in the sand like an Ostrich and tell the poor people who listen to his lies and blatant manipulation, “…oh, that couch?  I don’t have the slightest clue why your coach is floating down the street, where is your mommy? No, I don’t think all those recent earthquakes in Oklahoma (and recently in Kansas!), have anything to do with all of that wonderfully profitable–a real blessing–fracking going on all across this great land of ours…oh, and don’t believe any of those filthy, liberal, tree huggin’ scum bags either, they will tell you that global warming is real, but they are just jealous of the successes of the oil companies, like the one your daddy works for, yep, and all this talk about man drowning the polar bears is just nonsense, don’t you worry your pretty little head about anything my dear…”.

Have a nice day folks and may we all just sit back and ponder the FACT we could land a fridge on a rock hurtling through space, yet we can’t ask our ‘gods‘– the oil, gas and coal industries– to just ‘give it a rest’ on the fossil fuels for a while.  Investing in renewable energy before it’s too late for future generations?   What is wrong with giving it a shot? Because, ‘at the end of the day’, WE, as a collective human race, assuming we want to live, are going to have to tackle this problem.

There is only one planet earth…last time I checked.

PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
