Risin’ Sun ‘ore Nantucket…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:17 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Tuesday morning, ’super Tuesday part one’, February 28th, 2012, a stunning morning on Cotuit Bay, yes, that’s right, I’ll say it once again in case you didn’t hear it the first time, Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, looking out onto the serene waters, with a gentle breeze flowing through the trees, that, unlike Michigan, are not all the ‘right height’, in fact, they are all wrong, the Holly trees are shorter than the White Pines, and the Arborvitaes that line, for real, ‘the Ancient Path’, are off kilter with the scrub oak, a famous tree on Cape, one you might notice if one were traveling down the main thoroughfare of Cape Cod in a vehicle, route six, that takes one from the Bourne Bridge all the way to the tip of the Cape, Provincetown, the true first landing, well, next to the landing at now ‘Coast Guard Beach’ in Chatham, of those first Pilgrims on a wooden schooner called ‘The Mayflower’, the first Anglo-Saxons to anchor in the New World, but alas, could not find water, and so, they sailed north to what is now known ’round these here parts’ as Provincetown, where, years later, after they settled Plymouth, the fictional ‘first landing of the Pilgrims’, they built a monument, “The Pilgrim Monument”, the tallest standing granite structure in the United States, I’m not sure about Dubai.  Standing 252 feet in height, this granite beauty was dedicated to those brave Pilgrims who first settled the now United States of America, unbeknownst to them at the ‘time’, for it was on November 21st, 1620, a full 156 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, these brave souls brought the spirit of that BRAVE NEW WORLD, a spirit that lives on today in this great land of ours, a spirit available to EVERYONE, for it knows no race, creed, color, sexual orientation, gender, social status, no, it beckons one to strive for high ideals, you know, “snobbery”.  To strive for a better future not only for ourselves right here and “NOW”, but one for our kids and grand kids, who WILL, one day, sit back and scratch their heads and say, ‘what was up with grandpa?’, was it worth screwing up the aquifers in New York state, affecting millions of people’s drinking water back in the early part of the 21st century? Just to make some dough on ‘natural gas’ extraction from shale rock deep below the surface of the earth?  Could they at least have done it safely?  Without allowing those 596 deadly, secret at the ‘time’ chemicals to destroy millions of people’s everyday drinking water in the ‘greatest city in the world?’  Are you fracking kidding me?  I don’t think Theodore Roosevelt, our very fine republican President, who, in 1907 dedicated the cornerstone of that monument, and, in 1910, President
William Howard Taft dedicated the now completed tower, marking it as a totem, if you will, would have shared the Koch Brother’s business practices, practices that are harming our environment, our political landscape and our rights to organize under a UNION umbrella, safety in numbers right David?  Hats off to the everlasting spirit of the Pilgrim, of the Pioneer, of leaders, both past and present, who see beyond all of this useless bickering back and forth about who was right about this, and who was wrong about that.  For in the end, it, to quote Winston Churchill, the great British Prime Minister who saw England through World War II, “…it is not the critic who counts, rather, it is the man in the arena, with blood and dust all over his face, fighting the good fight…for he is not one of those timid souls who knows neither victory, nor defeat.”  I paraphrase slightly, but I believe you get the point.  WE all have a stake in this upcoming election, and it IS for all the marbles, for the world MUST find those common solutions, now that WE live in a global economy, to our common problems of energy, food, clean drinking water, basic medical care, a prospect for employment in the future, seeing a true path out of this wilderness of fear mongering, manipulation, maleficence and maliciousness, finally seeing the LIGHT Plato described to well in ‘The Republic’, showing the ‘people in the cave’, that shadows are not real, and there is something outside of that cave you have been huddling in for so long, you have the right to get out and exercise your voice, live your life and be free, the very point of this experiment called ‘the United States of America’.  The plutocratic vision will not, in the end, hold that LIGHT that is bestowed upon all human beings, ‘even the least among US’.  For was it not the man who became spirit in this world, 2012 years ago, a man whom many seeking political power in this country claim to worship and FOLLOW, i.e. ‘walk the talk’, yes, was it not that same man who said this–“what you do to the least of me, you do unto me….”?.  I say old chap, how does that square with your real position, you know ‘who are you REALLY?’  Perhaps in this late hour of 2012, you should take another gander at that Bible you throw around every one’s bedroom.  That kind of careless rhetoric is exactly WHY we have a separation of church and state, per the CONSTITUTION, because the vast majority of ‘the American People’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R–KY), do not want some bully telling them what they can and cannot do.  That is why the Pilgrims came to the New World to begin with, mainly to escape religious tyranny under brutal Kings, such as George the third, who sparked the Revolution in this nation, ‘creating a more perfect UNION’, ever keeping one’s faith between himself and his CREATOR. Good Luck in Michigan today news core of America!  I’m sure it will all turn out just fine, and have a nice day folks, keeping clear of Rupert, ‘arrrrrghhhhh matie!’, Murdoch’s wooden nickles, seems like the gig is up, eh matie?  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
