Summer Sky

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket! Returning home at 5:50 a.m. from a very foggy Dowses Beach here in Osterville, I bid you a good morning.  The fog was so thick on this dawning of a new day, (the visibility was 100 yards tops) and as we all know, fog is a meteorological event– yet sometimes, it is a metaphor for something else entirely.  That is what we are facing on the Gulf at this very moment in “time”…  The “grand cover up” begins in earnest now, for the price-tag of bp’s monumental environmental crime is off the charts.  In this criminal investigation, the government has the power to invoke several laws that are designed to protect our precious coastlines from corporate predators, like bp, from destroying what is NOT THERE’S–i.e., the clean water act, among others.  In that bill that was passed in the 1970’s, the EPA, or environmental protection agency, could fine bp up to 4300 dollars per barrel spilled into U.S. waters.  Thus far, it has been estimated that 40 million barrels have been spewed into the Gulf, leaving a tab of over 10 billion dollars for Tony, “I just want my life back”, Hayward (CEO, bp).  That’s just for starters.  The law suits that will be forthcoming from the ruined lives left in the wake of this disaster, will most assuredly leave this oil monstrosity with a huge dent in it’s future.  But, that will not touch what bp has done to the natural wonder of the Gulf region.  The birds, dolphins, sharks, whales, sea turtles, and micro-organisms at the beginning of the food chain will be affected for many decades to come–long after bp has gone into bankruptcy court and dissolved into another faceless, corporate monster with a different name… Do these “executives” have souls?  Ann Kolten, the new “spokesperson” for bp, a former Cheney aid and spokesperson, is heading up the effort to minimize bp’s role in the “spill” or “accident”, in which their lawyers are busy trying to convince the public that all of that black tar like substance on the beaches is just a natural phenomenon, having nothing to do with the very “modest” leak in an oil rig that blew up only 45 days ago.  Again, with the advantage of FOX NEWS, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah, “I am a crazy woman”, Palin, and the rest of the junior high school bullies, many Americans will believe the lie atop the lie atop the LIE.  Big oil and government were one in the same during the years of 2000-2008.  The Obama administration inherited that legacy, and thus, along with the crooked financial world of Wall Street, the insurance industry, and several other industries that I don’t have time to go into right now, have had many road blocks via the giant “plumes” of money that talk louder than even the most eloquent of speeches by a President who does appear to have a heart.  I do not envy the President’s position, although my suspicions about the relationship between a 400 billion dollar company and the Executive branch of the government remains as vital as ever.  Listening to a spokesperson from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration yesterday on the PBS Newshour, I was struck by her response to the question of the giant oil “plume” that has developed and is threatening the coast of Florida, namely Pensacola.  When asked if they have taken any samples of the oil, her answer was “not yet”.  She then tried to use an excuse of large schools of fish to explain what space appears to have confirmed– that a giant oil plume is, indeed, just under the sub-surface of the Gulf waters–exponentially bigger than any of the surface oil we see now on every news cast provided by the “tv”.  Her vague and seemingly pompous answers, led me to question her loyalty, for it seemed that she was defending that which cannot be defended–a monster-like company that gets its orders from the likes of Dick Cheney.  If you think about it for a moment, you have to wonder who is pulling Sarah Palin’s strings.  Do you really believe she is?  Her transparent contradictions prove that she has no mind of her own.  Her obnoxious voice, filled with hate, intolerance and hostility (in the immortal words of John Candy–border line criminal) is only matched by the words that are provided to her on a “secure” facebook page.  Dick Cheney’s recent entry was thus, “Went on down to Louisiana yesterday, and I was filled with joy.  The seas were red and the whole place smelled like Napalm.  I love the smell of Napalm in the morning–it smells like victory.”  Only a few men are making real decisions in this country and it does not appear to be the Executive.  Something stinks in Denmark and it is not the dead fish in the Gulf.  Whether or not this “accident” was an accident at all remains to be seen, for the argument that a Transocean official on board the Deep Water Horizon oil rig had with a senior member of the bp “family” must be investigated–for it is within that argument that the TRUTH will be discovered.  Just prior to the whole rig blowing sky high, large chunks of rubber, presumably from the blowout “preventer”, were appearing at the top of the riser on board the ill fated rig–setting off alarm bells for most of the Transocean employees, 11 of whom lost their lives.  Halliburton, of whom Dick Cheney used to be the CEO and still has tremendous power and control, was involved in a big way, for the cement that they used prior to the explosion, failed and thus, had everything to do with this massive, epic, mega-disaster…stay tuned folks, this is far from over.  GODS SPEED to everyone, everything and every little creature who just wants to live in this world that infinite Creative Intelligence gave to us ALL! Have a nice day folks!  Peace~ M
