State of the Union
Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, melting island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Tuesday, the 12th day of February, 2013, a few days after the monster blizzard of 2013, a storm that dumped so much snow across the New England region, with many of us here on the Cape and Islands finally digging out from a Nor’easter that produced 87 mile an hour winds in Hyannis, 2 feet of snow and power outages from Sandwich to Nantucket. Ah, life on the ocean, what can I say, “a heck of day at SEA sir!” (credit the classic film, circa 1987, “Overboard”, starring the great Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell). Well, tonight, at 9 p.m. eastern, President Barack Obama will deliver the “State of the Union”, a tried and true annual event where OUR President gives an outline of what his, or her, vision of where he wishes to take this great country in the future. Top on the list is going to be jobs and the economy, with immigration being up there as well, but in reality, it is that ever present economy. Guns will also be on the list as well, with Ted Nugent being ‘in the house’. I suppose tempting fate as he stated that if President Barack Obama were re-elected he would either be dead or in jail… Guns have been a problem in this great land for a long time, with over 300 million weapons on the streets, almost the same amount as the population of said country. As the tragedy in New Town, Connecticut slips into people’s memories, it is high time we put an end to magazines that hold over 30 rounds of bullets that someone can use, not for hunting, but for killing innocent children without a thought. Hopefully the republican party, that is out to lunch on so many issues, actually listens, wakes up and realizes that if they don’t, they will go by the way of the Dodo bird. Have a great day and please keep in mind the importance of being educated to the REAL problems facing OUR world, i.e. global warming–for WE all have a stake in this ’state’ of OUR Union, and remember it IS a country OF of the people, BY the people and FOR the people–not of the corporations that pitch their special interests every day in Washington D.C… PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
