Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sun laden, warm, rather humid an still quite breezy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Tuesday–the eighth day of September, 2015–another great day to be on Cape Cod and those aforementioned Islands, as this summer weather has returned with a vengeance today, so cancel all of your Fall plans and come on back to the Cape! WE still have some exploring to do!
The massive flood of humanity streaming in from the war torn countries of Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan hearkens one back to World War II, as refugees continue to make their way North, destination being either Austria, Germany or Sweden, perhaps the UK, with many actually making it yesterday, filling all hearts with a some good news for that change, with the world witnessing Germany extending a Loving hand to the “least of us.” Pretzels, bratwurst, beer, you name it. For you, it’s on the house! The Germans opened up their wallets, hearts, minds and soul to these human beings who had no other choice (if they wanted their families and themselves to survive), but to leave what many consider to be a canary in the coal mine. Many countries like Hungary turning their back on the crisis, as was seen by perhaps billions all around the world.
Nowhere to hide…
‘The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few’ and that sentiment is precisely the message U.S. Senator–from the great state of Vermont–Bernie Sanders is educating the American citizenry on, attracting unusually large crowds from coast to coast in this pivotal 2016 U.S. presidential election; democracy with that little letter ‘d’ being at stake. For what difference will Syrian refugees be from those of Ferguson, Missouri, ten years from now if we don’t take a good hard look at a rigged system that offers nothing to those at the bottom save a good kick in the butt! “Nothing” defined as no real opportunity for the vast majority of African-American children in the current broken education system, one wrought poverty, crime, decay and despair. A socially stunted environment, one so bad it takes a miracle to get one out, to get a leg up, or even a helping hand… Lo, to even get a small foothold out of the poverty cycle of death is an epic struggle day in and day out for most on the fringes of society today, never making the front page or the ‘top trending crap on the ’smart phone’ or TV machine; a true electronic leash. Millions of people around this country feeling squeezed by a militarized police state whose only goal it seems is to put more blacks in a sadistic and quite criminal for profit prison system, the great bane of America today, with well over 2.1 million mostly young black and brown men behind bars.
Major changes will be needed in the coming decades if this country is to survive. Global Warming alone is going to be an epic struggle for the next generation and here we are in this late hour of 2015 still sticking our collective heads in the sand, claiming it is all a ‘big hoax’.
So instead of casting a protest vote for a man who needs no introduction or any more coverage (Donald Trump), or even a real one, consider this: who is this guy (or anyone with an “R” next to their name), who is he or she really interested in helping?
You or big business?
That is the bottom line in this next U.S. election.
Vote for your best interests, not a plutocrats’!
Have a nice work week ahead folks!
PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
