Soft Sand
Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket! On a cold and very raw day here on Cape, I bid you and yours a fair adieu. Some evidence of winter’s approach was visible on my front lawn this morning, as a powerful ‘Noreaster has pushed it’s way up the eastern seaboard, sprinkling some white stuff on the still green grass of Osterville at large…with these “crazy” weather patterns, who knows what tomorrow will bring. The dawn broke a few moments ago in Washington D.C., where the city has grown quiet, relatively, since the republican takeover of the House of Representatives, and with President Obama touring India, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan in the next 7 days, I imagine the spin, or rather the confrontations, may take a break from their usual intense level of rhetoric, rashness and reptilian behavior, only for a moment, as the “lame duck” session of congress plans to do even less for said, “American People” than they have done in the past 2 years, save for a very long list of accomplishments that I will be happy to list right here, right now…oh, and by the way, the “American People” have Nancy Pelosi to THANK for much of these social programs that are truly FOR the AMERICAN PEOPLE with over 420 of them still being held up by the now infamous party of “hell no”–now known to those in the KNOW as REPUBLICORP. Here is the latest list of programs that Nancy Pelosi, President Obama and Harry Reid actually passed into LAW–1. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, 2. credit card reform, 3. student loan reform, 4. stimulus (giving the greatest tax break to the middle class in decades) 5. Wall Street reform, 6. cash for clunkers, 7. childrens’ health care expansion, 8. auto industry bailout (saving perhaps the most iconic manufacturing symbol of our nation), 9. expanded funding and access to the VA, 10. land conservation, 11. hate crimes prevention act, 12. tax cuts, 13. health care reform… With the Senate yet to act on the remaining 420 bills that were passed through the soon to be outgoing 111th Congress of the United States of America, thanks mostly to Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell (R-KY), it begs the question, Mitch, who are these mysterious “American People” that you speak of? Is it possibly the Koch brothers, Bechtel, or the Chicago Tribune, the “small businesses” that you so desperately want those Bush tax cuts of 2001, 2003, (that were designed to be temporary, back in those dark years, to help with a minor recession that was occurring in the country at the time) to be extended for, along with the top 2 percent in this nation–is that “the American People” that you speak of, like a Chatty Cathy doll, 24/7? We all know the honest answer to that one… My suggestion to you and your pal billy bob Boehner is this, come up with some new material so that when you finally finish the job of completely screwing this nation over, you will not look like such a scumbag…of which you most certainly ARE. The people that you have fooled, i.e. the tea party and older American voters, will not stand the test of time. You will realize that this nation was NOT founded on the principals found in the mission statements of Goldman Sachs, United Healthcare, Massey Energy, or Exxon Mobile…they were forged through the toughest of experiments imaginable, braving mighty seas without a Blackberry, by men far greater than you–men like Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, George Washington and Benjamin Franklin–whose altruistic vision of this grand testimony to what a civilization can be if it puts its differences aside, was, and is, unmatched in the past 500 years of human history on this little blue rock I like to call earth.
