September Morn’

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:28 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Good to be with you on this Sunday morning, a much different scene at Dowses Beach,  walking up the long road leading up to Nantucket Sound and “Faith Hill”, the dominating mountain, standing 17 feet above sea level, adorned with a small lifeguard station and two picnic tables sitting “on deck”, the grassy ship, that serves as a metaphor as it appears to be, as you look out the bow of the two wooden fences coming together at the edge, a giant sailboat looking to the Southwest, towards Martha’s Vineyard and beyond.  Again, I was struck by just how beautiful nature really IS…as the sun began to rise this morning, Osprey couples flying overhead, with plenty of company from the Greater Blackback seagulls, the Terns, the Sanderlings, the Great Blue Heron, who was sitting on top of a dock, the Green Heron, Barn Swallows, Song birds, common seagulls, Marsh Hawks, sea crows, the Kingfisher, and nine swans bringing in the morning light, I could not stop taking pictures of all that was around me, all that really matters, this world, the people, animals and marsh lands therein, taking on a much deeper meaning than before, a much deeper appreciation for all that LIFE has to offer, as I slowed my brain down for just a minute, well, perhaps more than just a minute, to realize that the PRESENT IS all we really have.  With the Sunday morning talk shows about to start in less than a few hours, anticipating interviews with “officials” who will tell half of us what we want to hear, or perhaps that number is a little “liberal”, and leaving the rest of US to wonder, are you kidding me?  What if, in the spirit of Anne Murray, what if, it was nothing but good news today?  AND ACTION: “We have some good news to report, today, President Obama decided to pull all American troops out of harms way in Afghanistan, while, during an energy summit, scientists have discovered a new, completely clean, source of energy that will replace OIL”, thus, saving this planet from destroying itself, via the fossil fuels that are putting this WHOLE planet in an ever warming climate change, that WILL melt the ice caps, if nothing is done about it, and as temperatures continue to rise, bringing on more intense heat waves than climatologists recorded (hottest summer on record across the world) this past year, we will see more drought, famine and rising food prices across the globe.  WE know that the p.o.h.n/tea party, or rather their employers, know what they are doing to the only home we have at the moment, via the battle cry, “profit over people”, we KNOW that THEY know.  That is the message.  If you spell out the FACTS, reveal a little history of the past ten years, strike that, thirty years, since the days of Ronald Reagan and his marriage to corporate America, “morning in America”, Ronald Reagan, and the core of the problem–deregulation, “free market”–where people with money have hijacked the system and thus, hijacked the country–it’s congress, it’s people, it’s lands, and it’s wildlife, you may begin to see a shift in consciousness, away from the mindless computers, televisions, radio programs, video games, social networks, etc., that are polluting our minds, and towards self reflection, an awakening of sorts, that serves to reveal the true you, not the programmed you, that listens to all of the noise pollution and makes decisions about YOUR life based on flat out lies and propaganda, making you completely free of thought control, for that is what it IS, and becoming true to yourself, perhaps since you were a little kind, the only person you need to be true to to begin with.  Once that is accomplished, nothing, I mean nothing can touch you.  “We won’t be fooled again,” the lyrics of Roger Daltrey, and the great rock and roll band, “The WHO”, could not be more appropriate than it is at this moment in “time”.  I was watching the classic film, circa 1955, and the late, great James Dean, in the last movie he shot out in California, a month before he died, called, of course, “Rebel Without a Cause,” and it was if I were watching it for the first time.  We saw the whole spectrum of human emotions as we navigate our way around this physical world.  From the macho power trip of “Buzz” who felt the need to prove himself by fighting the “new guy” with a knife, to the car race atop a cliff, where the two contestants, Dean and “Buzz”, flew across a grassy hill top towards a cliff that, if taken, would send you to your death 300 feet below to the rocky ocean’s floor.  Of course, Dean, rolls out of the  car before it was too late, while Buzz’s arm gets caught in the door handle, and could not make the leap in time.  As we painfully watch the rest of the movie, I noticed something that Dean said to his father, who was seemingly always afraid, not really present, as he told Dean that it doesn’t matter what other people think, that he should not worry about honor, or doing the right thing, for the most important aspect of one’s existence was to just not ruffle any one’s feathers.  “Wrong, said Dean, Honor is about being TRUE to oneself, to BE INTEGRITY, to walk your talk, and to be free, truly free, to say and do what you want, so long as it does not hurt anyone else, in fact, you should go out of your way TO HELP someone else.”  Of course, I paraphrase, a bad habit, I know, but I imagine that you get the point, at least that is what I got out of the whole thing, and in the end, the very end of that film, what triumphs over all of the misunderstandings, the miscommunication, the lack of clarity on people’s parts who really do love each other?  LOVE. That little word is the great equalizer in this whole American experience, for everyone loves something, someone, someplace.  Who are we to take that, which is what we ALL are, our basic makeup, that which GOD gave to us ALL, with the only real commandment being, as said by Jesus himself, “LOVE ONE ANOTHER,”? Einstein once said, many moons ago, “A Life lived for others, is the only life worth living.”  Perhaps that is the real, deep issue at hand here, we seem to have forgotten that simple fact, that we have lost our way, that we have followed an idol in the name of the “Almighty Dollar”, that we have become blind to that which would set us free.  It starts, in the words of the late, great Michael Jackson, “with the man in the mirror.”  GOD’S SPEED to the GULF, all of the SEA TURTLES, DOLPHINS, WHALES, BROWN PELICANS, and marsh lands therein… may someone in power come up to bat for you soon! Have a blessed Sunday everyone.  Peace~M
