Sea Cape Meadow
Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, FOGGY island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Tuesday morning, the 29th day of May, 2012, another naturally air-conditioned day on Cape, as the rest of the nation bakes in record in heat, and as I look out of my window at the ever growing number of boats moored on Cotuit Bay… summer has arrived once again on schedule. Yes sir, Cotuit, that off the beaten track Old Cape town, where truly, “the ocean meets the wood”, bringing nature back big time to many who may, or may not, have forgotten just how important this GIFT of the wilderness is to ALL of US–poor, rich, black, white, gay, straight, woman, man, child or grasshopper, for in the end, what will WE remember? Not the long days at the office I can assure you, or days spent on Capitol Hill attempting to create special ‘deals’ that only serve a small segment of our overall population, a population of roughly 311 million SOULS who struggle, through no fault of their own, daily to make “ends meet”. Looking forward to this upcoming short work week, one must consider some facts that no one really does not like to speak of, such as the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria, where women and children, some as young as infants, were shot over the week end at point blank range, innocents executed by unholy ‘men’ whose wish to hold onto ‘power’ supersedes even that most simple directive from the mysterious, living omniscient LORD, creative intelligence, that rules over US all–namely, “THOU SHALL NOT KILL!”. Having come from a decorated military family–via the Air Force Academy–I reflect upon my mother, grandmother and grandfather(s), not to mention a whole host of family Doctors, Lawyers and other pilots, and I think of my real home, Colorado Springs, where I have mixed emotions over this one, knowing that more ‘boots on the ground’ to solve the sickness that IS Syria at this juncture, may be the only way to save more innocents from the bloody regime oozing from the intentions and actions of a horrible dictator, al Assad & company, whose tactics are beginning to look more like Serbia and the atrocities that horrible regime inflicted upon the Bosnian peoples in 1995. And yet, the other part of this humble reporter sees this increasing beating of the war drums as more partisan horse$hit, designed for political reasons as opposed to humanitarian ones. If that is the case may God have mercy on their souls, you now know of whom I speak. We have seen our economy take a nose dive over the course of this past decade because of illegal and immoral wars (along with the continuing widening of the Grand Canyon gap between the haves and the have nots in the U.S., via tax breaks, crooked tax codes, and even more crooked banks)– wars such as Vietnam and Iraq, where the “mission” was long ago lost in a fog of political brinkmanship, that did not, in the end, save one life, but did save some precious Senator’s seat at that table of power, power that is waning by the day. For once in their political lives, can this ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ put the moral compass back where it belongs, stop the madness and the lies that they are going to ‘help’ the American people by slashing social programs in lieu of more U.S. defense spending? “This isn’t Russia Danny, is this Russia?” (credit Mitt Romney and Chevy Chase from the classic 1980 film, once again, “Caddyshack”), fighting wars that, e.g. Iraq, WE should never have been involved in in the first place, as ‘ole Mitt claims our biggest international ‘foe’ is Mother Russia herself? Really Mitt? Is that the best you can come up with? I think, to quote my friend and yours, Bill Murray from yet another classic, this time in the fine year of 1984, film, “Ghostbusters”–“…I’d call that a BIG YES!” Any hoot-ski, my best wishes to you and yours in this next week and fun in the very hot political sun, for mark my words, or those of credible real scientists, climatologists, around the globe, this is going to be one very warm and uncomfortable summer, especially for those who are, and insist on being, standing firmly on the shifting sands that represent the WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY!
