Saint Andrew

Atop another hill, that has a tremendous amount of Faith, stands the small chapel of St. Andrew’s in the hamlet of Hyannisport, Massachusetts, five miles to the east of “Faith Hill” in Osterville.  Overlooking  Nantucket Sound and Squaw Island, where President John Fitzgerald Kennedy sailed in and out of during breaks from the crisis’ of Washington D.C., this understated place of worship resembles the ancient castles of England– noted when I lived there for several years in my youth.  The light green moss that covers the boulders that make up the structure are as old as the myth of the dragons that guard this monumental home of Faith.  Perhaps we should take a moment to remember the early 1960’s and the lengths that President Kennedy, his brother Bobby and the nation as a whole took to save the world from nuclear proliferation.  It was the courage of Jack Kennedy that stopped the, then, Soviet Union from delivering nuclear missels to a country only 90 miles off the coast of Florida.  In a movie made in 2000 called “13 days”, with Walter Cronkite guiding us along this historic tension that brought the world to a stand still, actors, portraying Jack and Bobby, showed in great detail exactly how close we were to the end.  In that light, today, we might reflect on the fact that we are ONE nation, under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and Justice for all.  The partisan bickering brings no food to our families’ tables.  It brings no hope to those without affordable health care.  It brings no Peace to the world.  It leads no where.  In times of crisis, good leaders bring us together and put their personal problems of power aside.  Let us pray that we take the history, rich with courage, FAITH, and strength, to the next level–taking those lessons we have learned, hopefully, and go forward with our country’s real message…”land of the free, and home of the brave.”  Have a wonderful Sunday and God Bless us all.  Peace~ M
