And a good morning to you from the beautiful shores of Cape Cod and the Islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket! I hope you are safe and warm wherever this message might be reaching you. Sometimes I feel like I’m sending a message in a bottle, the destination unknown and uninterrupted. However, I’m sure of one thing, I’m not alone. The weather is changing here on the Cape, as the sun gains altitude in the sky, bringing warmer temperatures and the Osprey back from places as far away as the Amazon river basin. When I look at the image above, it brings about one word–purity. The lands of Cape Cod National Seashore are a treasure that should not be taken lightly. The ever changing landscape–shifting sands, fierce storms and abundant wildlife, makes this place special–for it is one of the few places left in the world that is unencumbered by the will of man. What is the will of man? Many speak to the “Will of God”, and in fact, one of the central themes in “The Lord’s Prayer” is…”Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” This is the rub. This is the conflict. Man’s will vs. someone’s idea of God’s will. Dogma is central in this fight and it is evident when we look out at the world and see all of the suffering caused by the “idea” of God’s will. In this country, the majority of people are Christian, and thus, follow a “version” of the Bible–manipulate, rationalize and eventually mold it to their liking, i.e., their own will, or the will of man. Similarly, extreme ideologues from the faith of Islam take the Will of God completely out of the picture and mold it into a vicious, violent reaction to what they see as a threat to their own dogmatic faith. Do you see the problem here? In this country we have the separation of church and state, for how long is to be determined, but for now, we have a somewhat healthy debate over what “God’s Will” truly is. However, it is clear that money and the lust for it along with power, has taken God out of the picture entirely and replaced it with a suspect Supreme Court, who has sided with corporate plans for plutocracy, a bullying political party, sponsored by big business, who fuels the flame of anger via the airwaves that they own, ignore facts and act as childish obstructionists bent on taking over the country again, creating new wars that are designed to feed the monster that is economic globalization. Is this the WILL OF GOD? Is it the Will of God that lawyers have found a “loophole” in the new health care LAW, allowing big insurance companies to deny children health care if they have a pre-existing condition? Is it the Will of God that millions of poor Americans will go to bed hungry tonight? Is it the Will of God that even more millions of our countrymen are homeless, even the one’s who put their life on the line serving our country in foreign wars? Is it the Will of God that the scum on Wall Street get rich off of bets they made with your money, and when they lose again, you will be there to bail them out? Is it the Will of God that we continue to destroy our planet when we know full well that Carbon Dioxide, a by product of the continued burning of fossil fuels, is to blame–effectively taking out one species after another, until the final species is man himself? Is it the Will of God, that we champion warriors over peace makers? Is it the Will of God that some reject the fact that we are ALL part of God? Is it the Will of God, that many in this country hijack the very words that Jesus himself said and bend those words to the Will of the corporation? “What you do to the least of me, you do unto me.” God was quite specific of his Will for man– man created by God and not the other way around (Republicans working for FOX News could give a testimony to that). Tom Coburn (a Republican Senator), the yin to James, “the mountain”, Inhofe’s (R–OK) yang, made a statement yesterday that gave me some hope–he actually said in an interview with NPR that Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House and leader of the House of Representatives) was “a nice person” and he went on to say that the health care LAW is actually a not a bad thing… Perhaps a tiny crack in the dam, a sliver of light shining into a dark cavern of ignorance and fear, anger and denial. Who knows, but one fact is certain… The Will of God is not what you may “think”. Have a wonderful day folks! Peace~ M
