Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket! So good to be with you on this very cold winter morning here on the Cape and Islands, with wind chills reading–at 7:46 a.m., EST, here in Osterville, according to my sophisticated weather satellite system, complete with Doppler radar, well, truth be told I usually just look out my window and read the thermometer–minus 2! I pray you and yours are safe and warm wherever this message in a bottle may be reaching. The weather in Wisconsin, as well as all over the Middle East is anything but cool these days. On two different land masses, worlds apart in so many different ways, working people, ordinary people, young people, are revolting and making their voices be heard. In Libya, Muammar Ghadaffi, the ruling dictator of that northern African nation, a brutal, unpredictable tyrant, with known terrorist ties and actions, such as the bombing of a Pan Am jet over Lockerbie Scotland in 1988, is in big trouble, as one official after another defects, along with military jet pilots, bringing the situation in that oil rich country to a boil. Reportedly hundreds of people have died as a result of Ghadaffi opening fire against the protesters who are demanding his departure. This, of course, comes as Tunisia and Egypt have already overthrown their decades old looters, I mean leaders, and as the wave of unrest continues across the region, with Bahrain, Yemen, and many other Arab nations following suit, and as the oil rich nation of Saudi Arabia becomes increasingly nervous, along with the immeasurable world attention to it’s oil reserves, the world’s largest, no one seems to be getting much sleep these days. The power of Face Book, Twitter, and the world wide web of the Internet in general, combined with the exuberance of youth and education, coupled with a grasp of world politics, finance and corruption, really all one in the same, is exploding and quickening the pace of revolution exponentially and thus, it is no wonder this is all happening NOW. Transparency does not mix well with covert capitalism or brutal dictatorship does it? Take Wisconsin for example. On day 9 of the protests in Madison, the state’s capital, Governor Scott Walker is playing a shell game. His position on the “budget crisis” in that state is easily refuted by the FACTS, but moreover, by the equally disturbing FACT that the good governor granted over 60 plus million dollars in tax breaks for his puppet master(s), the corporations, you know, the ones feeding him all of his lines, of which he could use a serious “re-write”, pertaining to what his masters really want, choosing Wisconsin,”they” picked as ground zero. It’s aim? To destroy the concept and functionality of the collective bargaining rights of workers that represent the only weapon left the “American People” really have against “management” (corporate monopolies) that would just as soon see these men and women go back to the early 1920’s, a time where workers did not have a forty hour work week, where they had no say as to the conditions in which they worked, no say in a fair wage, where they had no organizational power that they could use to gain, by virtue of the strength of their numbers, better health benefits and other common sense working standards, but more importantly, their ability to organize and ELECT politicians who have THEIR best interests in mind, not the greed of the multi-national corporations who give nothing back to our society at all. Let us review our history shall we? The average worker’s salary has not risen since 1973, and since 1980, the year Ronald Reagan was elected to the office of President of the United States, a year when the top one percent earned 10 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, a measure of the nation’s salary if you will, yes, since 1980, here in the year 2011, the top one percent earns 25 percent of the pie, while the average worker’s wages have remained stagnant for what almost 40 years now, with that number expected to sky rocket as the rigged game gets closer to it’s intended fruition, where the common “American person” carries the burden of the nation’s debt and is called to “sacrifice”, while the richest members of our society bask in the glow of earning 10, 15, 20 percent as they park their monies in an offshore account in the Grand Cayman islands. With the demolition of the unions, coupled with the Citizens United ruling, allowing big corporations, both foreign and domestic, to donate as much money (unlimited) as they wish to the puppets, I’m sorry, the candidates of their choice, yes, with the unions gone, with no real power of organization left, and no money left for political ads or the like, the republican party can, as Rachel Maddow put it, run the table, never having to look back, and thus, creating a true PLUTOCRACY that they all wanted, and stated as such in several “memos” I have attained, therefore changing this country from a democracy, “Of the People”, into a corporate, military state, where we may, in the not too distant future, elect a King, an oligarch of some kind, or a Diva, however, I think Palin is past her expiration date, who will rule much like Ghadaffi did, suppressing his people with an iron fist, jailing those who oppose him, and squashing any kind of a people’s revolt via the bomb or the bullet. It seems we are going backwards and the Middle East is progressing forwards, simple physics and simple reality. My friends at Koch Industries, “just ask David and Charles Koch, they’ll tell ya, they just bought property on the good side!” (credit the late great Rodney Dangerfield and his contribution to the classic film, circa 1978, Caddyshack), who own numerous pollution producing businesses in that state, donated $43,000 to Walker’s campaign in 2010, and is the chief architect of this little experiment in American history. Make no mistake about it, this is global, even though it seems local, for if these corporate monsters get their way, the leverage that the “people” once enjoyed, the reason we fought the Revolutionary War to begin with, will be gone, and our people, the “American People” the republicans gush over in their favorite talking point, will become slaves to corporate interests, as the polluters, the Koch brothers and their brethren at Exxon Mobile, Chevron, Shell, bp, among many others, continue to rape and pillage, poison and desecrate our lands, lands that we will “pass on to future generations”, another overly used cliche by the republican Rubicons, who, by their actions, don’t give a damn about said “future generations”, for if they did, they would realize that our grandchildren would be wise to grow fins and develop gills, as the oceans rise and the temperature becomes too hot to sustain life on planet earth. All for what? A few extra dollars in some billionaires bank account? What the republican party fails to realize is this, WE cannot be fooled by YOU. We have your number and there are more of us than there are of you, and in the end, the intelligence that is evident in our population, coupled with it’s passion, will take this country back by storm, and the days of corporate subsidies, corporate loopholes, corporate bribes, corporate tax shelters, and corporate corruption on such a massive scale will be no more. Just like Mubarak, your “empire” will come crumbling down upon your heads, and when you challenge “US” to look in the mirror, as in the famous poem and in the lyrics of the song Michael Jackson sang, in effect, “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at YOURSELF and make that CHANGE,” you may want to rethink that sentiment, for your logic holds no water and your moral compass is broken beyond repair. Of course, it is hard to change the mind of a mad man intent on world domination. The actions of the newly elected republican party has been a real profile in courage to witness, as the republican argument comes better into focus these past few months–continuing to chant the mantra, ’shared sacrifice’, showing us all the way with massive tax breaks for the wealthy and their corporate puppeteers, (not a sacrifice) while cutting home heating oil for seniors and asking the working man to live on a wage that does not include the word “living”… GOD’S continued SPEED to the WISCONSIN 14! May your efforts bring a big mirror to the table of common sense and common values. Have a nice day folks! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
