Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the foggy, rainy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Thursday morning, the tenth day of November, 2011, a grey early morning here on Cape, as the rains slowly move in for the day and presumably night as well. Yesterday, the American people roared back into life, casting their collective votes from sea to shining sea as it were, with many responding to the extreme over reach by ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’. Ohio voters echoing the same sentiments as Maine voters, even on different topics, roaring the same basic primal notion, namely, ‘enough is enough’, enough of the bull$hit, enough of the lies, enough of the dirty politics that only serve to hurt 99 percent of OUR PEOPLE! WE have got your number, what was it again? Oh yeah, that’s right, “8675,309…”, a song made popular many moons ago by a band that does not come to mind presently, however, “for a good time call…”. On the other hand, don’t call, because Ohio voters already struck down SB-5, ‘issue 2′, which was a bill that severely restricted unions to collectively bargain for wages, working conditions, and, perhaps most importantly for the 99 percenters out there, the RIGHT to organize and thus, have a voice in this increasingly muted world of politics, where MONEY talks and the “people’s ‘bull$hit walks” (credit Mitch, “the turtle”, McConnell (R-KY)…or at least that’s how the people felt in Columbus, Ohio, as thousands appeared on “The ED SHOW”, only on MSNBC, last night, showing up in droves and shouting down the now humble governor of that state, John Kusich. In Maine, voters struck down the voter suppression movement currently going on in twenty nine other states, striking down the notion of taking away same day registration, thus increasing the FAIRNESS elections should have within their core to begin with. In Mississippi, voters voted down the ‘personhood’ bill that would have made it almost impossible for women to have jurisdiction over their own bodies, a bill that insisted a ‘person’ is defined the moment the sperm hits the egg (I thought these guys didn’t believe in that science stuff, what happened to the Stork concept?), while it (the bill) takes away most forms, if not all, of birth control, the single most effective tool for PREVENTING unwanted pregnancies. Going out west, in Arizona, the author of the SB 1070 bill, the ‘ver are your papers’ bill, was fired by THE PEOPLE in a special election, by a republican! So, perhaps, we are beginning to see the power of the people and what IS in store for someone like Mitt, “corporations are people too”, Romney, who is about to find out how much his a flippin’ and a floppin’, and back to flippin’ again, with the flop to follow shortly, yes, find out how much that sideways ‘Bain Capital speak’ works with ‘the American people’, who listen to his horse$hit rhetoric and, while nodding their collective heads in agreement?, suddenly have an epiphany, WAKE UP and say to themselves, ‘why am I voting for this clown?’, ‘he does not have my, my families, my friends, or my co-workers best interests in mind’, ‘and what is all this talk about corporations being people too, people without any responsibility or culpability?’, ‘did he just steal my wallet and ask if I needed any help in locating it?’, with many other questions coming to mind in the weeks and months ahead. In the immortal words of our friend Rick Perry from the great state of Texas, “…we republicans want to eliminate stuff in government, I don’t remember what those three things were, but hellfire, ain’t this a hell of a day girlfriend?, take your god d&mn hands off of my maple syrup, it’s mine…” We are going to miss old Rick, if it were not for the coyote thing he might have gone a lot farther, at least he is not a robotic flip-floppin sell out like “Mitt” Romney, the man who, if you look really carefully, could easily double as a mattress salesman or an actor on television selling another pain relief product for some pharmaceutical giant…side effects of Mitt Romney include lower wages, no health insurance, higher deficits, more wars, more bank bailouts, higher concentration of wealth amongst the top one tenth of the top one percent in the United States, more pollution, more poverty, more crime, blurred vision, nausea, and sometimes, in rare occasions, even death. A symbolic death of ‘the American dream’, something ALL of OUR grandparents wished upon our collective PEOPLE long, long ago… Have a wonderful day folks and remember to keep on dodging those FOX NEWS wooden nickles, for the only ‘nickles’ you should accept are those of the John Nichols variety, the fine writer of TRUTH for the Nation Magazine. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
