Out to Sea

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:48 am

The Grey Lady II, seen above, steams out of the Hyannis Harbor on it’s way to the “far away island” of Nantucket on this November morning here on Cape Cod.  Many Americans are feeling this sentiment right now, “when do I get to go on vacation and sail away to a far away island?”  That is a very good question.  With the downturn in the economy seeming to get good folks in a Grinch like spirit, it is ever important to remember exactly what this season is really all about…giving.  Perhaps the one silver lining in this greedy theme of Americana politics can be found in this sentiment.  Seeing beyond the glitter and consumption of what Christmas has come to represent in this country and in many others, one can find simple joy in discovering  what someone else might be wishing for–be it acknowledgement of their worth as a human being (thrown to this earthly plane just as they were), and the fact that they might just be doing the very best that they can at that particular “time” and place.  Or, perhaps more importantly, the assurance that they are not alone and that their presence in this world really does matter, it matters a great deal.  For in the end we are all one, and the love and compassion that we give to our brothers and sisters is paramount to us understanding the big picture.  When we break the chains that hold our brothers, we break our own.  Have a wonderful week!  Peace~ M
