Our Lady

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:58 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautiful, sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on a Saturday morning, the fourteenth day of April, 2012, another, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, earth shattering day of resounding awe on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age, looking up at some of nature’s bounty, by way of the good ladies at “Our Lady of the Assumption”, a little Catholic chapel in Osterville who care for the many plants that adorn this place of worship every spring.  Let us also not forget the men who care for the grounds as well, such as this shrine to Mary you see below you, erected to remind US ALL that we are still LOVED, despite what the pundits in Washington, D.C. might say on any given day…  Yes sir, the birds of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, are alive and well, and abundant, singing songs of JOY and waking up the world to what is really important and what is most clearly NOT.  The “battle” lines are clearly drawn however in that confused beltway representing our nation’s Capitol–politicians, pundits, the ‘drive by’ media, special interests, and, oh yeah I almost forgot, ‘the American People’ (credit the comic stylings of Mitch, “don’t forget to tip your waitresses, or do, I don’t really give a $hit”, McConnell, R-KY), from time to time get ready to rumble! If you, like me, are sometimes into that sort of thing, be sure to tune into some of the great cable news shows on television today (such as “UP, with Chris Hayes” and “MHP”, only on MSNBC, weekends starting at eight a.m., Saturday and Sunday), as those dedicated journalists and professors in some cases, I’m lookin’ at your Melissa Harris Perry!, will be there to give one the KNOWLEDGE one needs to make some hay out of the whole darn thing, or at least give you more than the fluff you are likely to SEA on the corporate saturated, “money equals speech”, outlets such as FOX “NEWS”, who not only offer said fluff, but deliberately mislead their audiences, swaying weak minded individuals, or those who are easily duped, into ‘thinking’ and then acting against their own best interests.  Kind of like stealing their wallet and helping them ‘locate’ it, via the faulty ‘American Crossroads’ GPS system designed by a mad strategical genius who some call by the name of ‘Rove’… 600 million bucks is the number this ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ is estimated to spend on this pivotal election come November, banking on the aforementioned FACT regarding half of the electorate, who have already drunk that chemical cocktail represented in a cool Kool-Aid beverage, confusing statements like “…we love working moms”, with real compassion for the average woman in this great nation who makes 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, while she is expected to raise her children in a crumbling school and infrastructure system, without medical insurance or a place to go for low cost care, such as Planned Parenthood, as it was ‘done away with’ (credit Mitt Romney) years ago; slaving away at the two jobs she MUST have at the new U.S. minimum wage of 2.46 cents per day, while that new President still cashes in on dividends “made” or “earned” years ago, ‘capitol gains’ from his old gig at Bain Capital, paying only 13.5 percent in federal income taxes, as opposed to the 30 percent taken out of that 2 bucks our ‘working mom’ slaves away at on a daily basis.  I have said it before and I will say it again, “I hope it’s a wonderful coffee shop Jack!” (credit Charles Grodin from the film, circa 1988, “Midnight Run”, also starring, of course, the indubitable Robert De Niro).  Have a nice day folks and remember to lose yourself in nature if you get the chance this week end, you might just FIND yourself in the process, as I did, muttering to myself out loud, “…oh, that’s where you’ve been.” PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
