Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sun splashed, frosty island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Palm Sunday, the first day of April, 2012, a cold start to the day here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, experiencing a frost after many in the area have already planted their flowers…hope they bounce back in the warm April sun! Many Catholics around the world celebrate this day, “Palm Sunday”, as the start to the most holy week of the year, Easter week, a time for rebirth and miracles, if you believe in that sort of thing, and we, here at seacapecod.net do–so put that in your pipe and smoke it corporate news television moguls!  It seems our friend Keith Olbermann–famous for his “Countdown” series, the longest running news hour on television, unless, as Keith always points out…”you consider FOX news…”–has been sacked by the ‘powers that be’ on Current TV. This is not a bad April fools joke.  The brass at the fledgling cable news station, Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, saw it fit to fire the ‘Dean of modern day Journalism’, in my book, over ‘unannounced absences’ and other trivial crap that did not leave Keith with much of an option but to leave the building, although I am sure it was more electric than that.  We went through this fourteen months ago with MSNBC and Mr. Olbermann bounced back with flying colors, thus, there is no reason to think he won’t do it again.  There is something HUMAN and HONEST about Olbermann that very few other television news personalities bring to the table, therefore…he will be missed, big time! Current TV, because of this misstep, will have a hard time keeping it’s viewership in tact, although I do wish “The Young Turks”, and “The War Room, with Jennifer Granholm” all the best, as well as Eliot Spitzer, taking over for Keith, for they are, after all, ‘the good guys’ in a media circus that is becoming crazier and lazier by the day.  However, I found it sad those aforementioned hosts of the Current television nightly news lineup–getting their start because of Mr. Olbermann (not to mention the superb Rachel Maddow, host of the “Rachel Maddow Show”, only on MSNBC weeknights at nine eastern)–mentioned his name not a ONCE during Friday night’s broadcast, a real slap in the face to a man who has put as much heart and soul into this god forsaken business of homogenized television “news” programming that he has over the years, “news” offered up to an increasingly ignorant (through no real fault of their own making) American public, ignorant of FACTS and juiced up on America’s favorite food–HYPE! Have a nice Easter week Kieth and come on up to the Cape, we’ll throw some shrimp on the “barbie” (arrrrgggghhhhh matie!) for ya!  Turning to the Trayvon Martin case, a candlelight vigil was held last night in Miramar, Florida at a football stadium where Trayvon once played football, with thousands marking the moment with silence.  A former football coach of Trayvon used one word to describe the much loved 17 year old, gunned down in cold blood–“Great”. Perhaps with all of the polarization of this killing, as well as the shameful politics of the whole sordid affair, we should leave that all aside for today, remembering that Trayvon walks with a power much greater than those on Capitol Hill or crooked police stations all over the country.  For the NRA and all the haters combined in this great nation cannot soil his spirit, nor can their maniacal words of violence and paranoia aimed at another person’s SKIN color dampen the heroic efforts of Reverend Al Sharpton, who will lead a giant rally in Sanford, Florida today, with thousands in attendance demanding an arrest of a man who was the aggressor–yes sir, the one with INTENTION and a GUN! Blessings and peace be upon Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin on this Palm Sunday and may you come to realize your, and in many ways ‘our’ son’s death will not go unpunished or be forgotten, not while this writer’s pen is still operational! Have a tranquil Palm Sunday folks and may GOD BLESS US ALL! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
