Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cool, sunny, gorgeous island of Nantucket! Great to be back with you after a long summer on Cape and aforementioned islands that I hold so dear. Today is Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 and it is a chilly one out there as I look to my pumpkin on my deck overlooking the Steamship Authority here in Hyannis, ‘where the ocean meets the sky’ and I anticipate that proverbial ‘frost on said pumpkin’ soon as the days are getting shorter and the cooler weather is moving in. As I watched the sunrise over Nantucket Harbor at Kalmus Beach only a few moments ago, I was reminded of the truism that–it is always darkest before the dawn. For as that sun rose I realized that it truly was a new day and the insanity that exists in the extreme republican faction in this fair nation will not go far, as the arc of morality always bends towards JUSTICE, a concept this country was built on. 237 years ago a few brave men fought the tyranny that was thrust on them from their ‘overlords’ in England, being seen as merely tenants in a slum, slaves held hostage to the whims of an elitist class, caring nothing for the people they claimed as their subjects. Flash forward to today and the fight over the debt ceiling and the possible government shutdown as this country defaults on it’s obligations to the world at large, an unprecedented move that could send the fragile U.S. economy into a tailspin not to mention world markets and the now global macroeconomic reality. And who better to represent this nut job group of thugs and bullies but Sarah Palin from Moose U, a fine student of that University, shooting innocent animals for sport and spouting off nonsense that keeps the late night comedians fully employed. Paired up with the wacky Senator Ted Cruz from Texas, funded by the Koch Brothers and other oligarchs whose wish is to turn this nation into a plutocracy and putting all black and brown people in jail. These jokers really think they can turn the tide of history, a history that they are clearly on the wrong side of. There will be a reckoning and when it is all said and done, democracy, with a small ‘d‘, will reign true and free once again. The whole argument, an argument that sane republicans, and there are many, many friends of mine, is to defund the Affordable Care Act, a LAW by the way, effectively holding the country hostage (please Google “Stockholm Syndrome”) so that the insurance industry can continue making money hand over fist while denying millions common decency in the form of affordable health care. Moreover, it is the FACT that these folks, high on crack, are hell bent on stopping ANYTHING President Obama is trying to accomplish for the sake of the nation as a whole. Again, with the hope, are you listening David Koch?, to transform the United States of America into “The United States of Exxon-Mobile & Friends”. Pity that. So on this beautiful new day, stop and give some attention to the situation at hand, for as bad as Syria is, with the gassing of it’s own people and all, it pales in comparison to what the ‘Fracking’ for “natural gas”, producing record profits for billionaires like the Koch brothers, is doing to our water and air, poisoning people from sea to shining sea with their secret blend of 596 deadly chemicals the EPA can’t even investigate.
