Labor’s true worth

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:55 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny (once again), calm, comfortable and soon to be crowded island of Nantucket! Great to be with you once again on this 4th day of September, 2015.  Coming to you LIVE on a beautiful Friday morning here at the Hyannis/Hyannis Port Waterfront(s), the beginning of Labor Day week end here in the United States of America, where we take our productivity seriously, but hold ‘our’ unholy profit closer than ‘we’ hold our own heart. For ‘at the end of the day’, that heart was replaced long ago by one that did not resemble that of a young boy, only interested in playing in the great wilderness, imagination and LOVE ruling the day…

“Labor” is, of course, the means by which the rich get richer, the “ends”.  The “money”, backed by nothing, is what all the “competition” is about, hence the urgency to do ‘the master’s bidding…’. Creating “scarcity” gives rise to an increase in said profit because the price of goods and services rise.  If one is controlling all of the ‘money’ and labor, one controls the world, hence all of the ‘worth’ in it.

Begging the question, what is true worth anyhow?  Moreover, what does it really look like?

But “pay no attention to the man (men) behind the curtain!” (credit the great 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz”, starring the late, great Judy Garland…), ’cause here in the good ‘ole US of A, “we” have set aside a day for the poor, under-educated, underfed, overworked, hypnotized (brought to you by…, multinational corporate media conglomerates via skilled, seasoned, cunning Madison Avenue Wizards), molten masses who work for a lousy $7.25 and hour, by gosh, by golly!  Yes sir, that and some of that insane NASCAR, lots of alcohol and all loud, horrible metal music they seem to like so much on the old “Clear Channels”, yup, that should keep ‘em quiet for another year!

Of course, if they can pick up a shift on Monday, they will.

With multinational corporations raking in billions upon billions annually (modus operandi: the unsustainable blind folly of “profit over people”)–the masses told on the carefully scripted, sterilized, scrubbed, disinfected, and always homogenized NBC Nightly News that ‘they’re nest egg’ in safe, for the moment, all tied up in a house of cards that could fall at any moment, so stay tuned!--one wonders where all of this will end?  For by the year 2030, it will take two, count them, two, TWO! Earths to satisfy all of OUR incessant, wasteful, criminal consumption.  That is only 15 years from now.

“Hello?! McFly; is this thing on!?”

(credit the classic 1985 film “Back to the Future”, starring Michael J. Fox).

U.S. President Barack Obama wrapped up his trip to Alaska with a heavy heart one can imagine.  Looking at a dying glacier is much like watching a garden go for the winter.  But this time, that glacier is not coming back.  Perhaps no one cares at the moment, but that will change a very short ‘time’ from NOW, as this next generation WILL!

Have a great Labor Day Week End Folks!  Enjoy this natural bounty that is all around US!

“This land (like the song sings), “is your land, this land is my land; from California to the New York islands…, this land was made for you and me.”
