In memoriam
Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the wonderfully sunny (all week end!), breezy, comfortable island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Monday, the 25th day of May, 2015, “Memorial Day” here in the U.S., as the nation marks the solemn occasion–a day set aside to remember the sacrifices made by our military personnel over the centuries, those long, dark and bloody fights to preserve an experiment called a democracy with that little letter ‘d’, yes, those brave men and women… We honor them by having cookouts, BBQ’s, parades, long drinking sessions, and whatever else the typical American does to enjoy a rare day off in this globalized world of modern day slavery, of the economic variety.
We should all know by now that poverty is the cruelest form of violence…
Somehow, along this long and winding road we all are on together, even if it does not seem so at this present moment, the collective has lost touch with what the essence of a nation is and what this day really represents. One thing not representative, is a day set aside to sell cars, TV’s, refrigerators, or any other consumer product most don’t really need. It is a day designed for pause, a deep inward look at what WE as a country have fought to preserve, and what it still must fight for in the coming years as this world domination by an elite few continues to decimate the earth–her people, plants and animals--for their OWN personal gain.
People over profit! And democracy restored to the place it deserves to be…
Have a nice Memorial Day!
PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
