Hold on to your hat…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:54 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the mild and misty island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Thursday morning, the sixth day of November, 2014.  A wet one here at the Hyannis/Hyannis Port Waterfront, with much colder temperatures expected a little later on, towards the week end.

Just so WE are clear, the giant ‘wave’ of Republicans taking over the U.S. Senate in 2015, coupled with an even stronger House, can go one of two directions, as this brand is at the crossroads of it’s existence as a viable and relative party in a real democracy.  If we are talking about something else here, please disregard all of the forthcoming information completely.

The new presumed majority leader of that 114th U.S. Senate will be Mitch McConnell, who won going away in the great state of Kentucky, giving a conciliatory victory speech, hinting that there may be room to work with President Barack Obama. Perhaps getting something done for a change, starting with the minimum wage, road/bridge projects, bolstering the EPA and the like.

But with venomous angst a reality in this ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’, i.e. the insane rantings of Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, that is not likely to happen.  No sir, the writing on the wall is pretty clear and this brand is not going to take any prisoners, including the environment.  Former RNC chair Michael Steele put it well the other day when he said, “…yeah, if the president goes ahead and passed the Keystone pipeline, creating jobs (ultimately perhaps 40 at best), while he lowers the corporate tax rate (1 out of every 4 U.S. corporations do not pay ANY taxes at all), yeah, that could go a long way in creating a working environment…”, right Michael–approving the Keystone XL pipeline will only serve to enrich the KOCH BROTHERS (by 100 billion some estimates say).  It will NOT make this country ‘energy independent’, for you know as well as I do that all of that nasty, dirty tar sands oil will simply pass through our vital aquifers in South Dakota and Nebraska, inevitably leaking or disastrously gushing out due to whatever could happen out there, and after it makes it all the way to the Gulf, it will be refined or remain unrefined sludge that will be shipped out and sold to the highest bidder in the global oil trade–let’s pass a bill that will seal the fate of the earth’s future, making it a bleak one…

Why not call it what it really will be in a few months–as you contemplate impeaching the great man while simultaneously sneaking the pipeline approval under the radar as an addendum to some other bill the President must sign, such as raising the debt ceiling–EXTORTION!

This great 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama, who has done an outstanding job as Commander-in-Chief despite what critics may say–future real history books proving otherwise–has put up with this kind of crap since day one.  And now Senator Mitch McConnell, who famously once said the day after Obama was inaugurated as President in January of 2009, “…our number one goal as a party is to make sure Obama is a one term president”, wants us to believe that “The Heritage Foundation” and their creators are going to ‘work’ with this man?  When they could take this country by storm, drag it into a bathtub and drown it like their tax henchman Grover Norquist parroted so many moons ago.

No, this is the big chance for the plutocrats to get what they want, namely an end to any regulations at all.  No more EPA! No more IRS! No more Department of Education! No more food stamps, no more affordable care, ‘no more fun of any kind!’ (credit the fine words of ‘Dean Wormer’ of ‘Faber College’ via the classic 1978 film “Animal House”, starring the late, great John Belushi)

I hope I am wrong.  However, if you take a look at what is really going on under the surface, peeling back the onion, pull back the curtain, take your metaphorical pick, look hard enough and you will see the TRUTH. And I have to ask the simple question–‘for what?’.

Do they really want a nation that looks and acts like Russia does today?  Are we really going to let all of those who sacrificed, OUR greatest generation who fought Nazi atrocities (genocide and tyranny) in WWII, yes, are we going to allow those deaths to be in vain?  They fought for what our founding father’s fought for, democracy with that little letter ‘d’. And until someone puts a new shingle on the White House that reads “…the White House, brought to you by Koch Industries“, I, and others like me, will continue to speak out for those who do not have a voice.  As the voter suppression and Madison Avenue wizards–along with gerrymandered districts and all of the dark money in the world (thanks to the folly of the 2010 “Citizens United” decision via Chief Justice John Robert’s rather activist U.S. Supreme Court)–turn away would be voters while brainwashing them on ‘TV’ to vote against their own best interests, it is not a surprise to SEA where the country could be headed–right off a cliff!

This country–now run by people who believe that ‘life’ begins at conception yet adopt a ‘rugged individualism’ philosophy when it comes to basic child welfare–needs it’s remaining leaders  to not bow down to these few greedy plutocrats, no sir.  We need to stand firm as ONE~ just like the fake grass roots 21st Century GOP does every day, fighting for our children and grand children’s futures–futures that include seeing a whale in the big, blue SEA someday. In an ocean that is not dying a slow acidic death because WE, as a species, did not wake up in time to save it along with planet as a whole.

Have a nice day folks and be well.

Tomorrow is another day.  Remembering that LOVE and LIGHT always triumph over the dark!

PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
