Hi There!

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 3:24 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  On a glorious day here on Cape, I bid you and yours a fair adieu.  Just returning from a day trip up to the Brewster area, a small town on the north shore of Cape Cod proper, spinning up route 6A, heading east through the towns of Barnstable, Yarmouthport, Dennis, and then into Brewster sitting at the upper elbow of the Cape looking north onto Cape Cod Bay.  The sunshine could not have been brighter this morning, and with the leaves beginning to turn on this October Saturday, the feel of fall is most certainly in the air.  Just ask my pal the great Humpback Whale, as seen in this shot I took about ten days ago a little north of Brewster and the bay, into the Stellwagen Bank, where the Humpbacks, Finbacks and Minke Whales feed on the rich bounty of small fish that they trap with their baleen, or “teeth”, as these great mammals (balleen whales) do not have the sharp teeth that some of their brother whales have, such as the Sperm Whale or Killer Whale, better known as Orcas.  This is a common sight, as the Humpbacks enjoy a little R&R after a deep dive searching for more food as they fatten up to their largest size of the year, prior to the trip back down to the Caribbean, fairly soon, where they will mate once again.  It is too bad our species could not take a few pointers from our friends who just happen to have flippers instead of hands, you never see a whale with a weapon.  Speaking of hands, let us give our good friend from the state of New York a big one, for his rather public outburst and threat to one of the Dean’s of journalism for the New York Post, Mr. Carl, “did you say bird dog?” Paladino, who happens to be running for Governor of the great state of New York.  But, before I do that, I would like to thank Mr. David “Cay” Johnston, the distinguished scholar and professor from Syracuse University, as well as author and experienced writer for the New York Times, for he honored me by calling my house just a few moments ago to let me know that I misspelled his middle name, and for that I am deeply sorry. His book, entitled, “Free Lunch”…’ how the wealthiest Americans enrich themselves, at government expense (and stick you with the bill) is a must read for anyone who is truly interested in the how’s, why’s, sometimes where’s and most certainly the who’s and the what’s of the current state of the union’s deep economic woes, the true history of how we collectively got to this fork in the road as a nation… He was recently on “Countdown, with Keith Olbermann”, who I also owe an embarrassing apology to, for, even though Keith is a personal hero of mine, I have been spelling his name wrong as well for the past two years on this same Michael’s blog…you would think I would have misspelled Beck or Palin, McConnell or Boehner… my apologies, Keith and thanks for the latest reading of Thurber and the story of the biting dog, so appropriate on so many different levels, please continue reading the master, the late, great James Thurber…, the world thanks you.  You can catch Keith’s show every week night on MSNBC at 8 and 11 p.m., EST.  Where was I, oh, I remember, the latest distraction from the rest of the lunatic fringe tea party express to hell, taking a break from the usual suspects of Palin, O’Donnell, “Angle”, and Paul, to relive what was said in an exclusive interview with Katie Couric (please forgive me Katie) right after Mr. Paladino told the Post reporter that he was going to “take him out…” AND ACTION: Couric:  “Good morning, Mr. Paladino, how are you today?”  Paladino:  “Hey, ‘der Katie, how’s it hangin’, I just stopped by to clear de air from that ting dat happend de utter day, my apologies to the viewers out der in television land, ’cause I meant no disrespect, you know, I mean, dis’ guy, huh?  Dis’ bird dog, mother fu@#%$R, you come after me one more time, I’m gonna….” (microphone cut)  Couric:  “I’m sorry folks, that is all the time we have tonight, thank you for watching the CBS EVENING NEWS and for everyone here, goodnight.”  and, cut, wrap and print. Just not ready for prime time, are we Carl, “I’m gonna take you out,” Paladino?  I heard they were going to start shooting the sequel to “Good Fellas”, maybe you should go down and audition for the extra as a washed up, foul mouthed slum lord, who takes the governments money via the overpriced rent you charge them–not much of a stretch though…  Have a great Saturday everybody!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
