Hallelujah 2.0!
Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the ice cold, blustery, sun drenched island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the 19th day of November, 2014; absolutely freezing down on the Hyannis/Hyannis Port Waterfront at this very early morning hour, while this little sand bar along with the majority of the U.S. is feeling an arctic surge that has not felt this cold since 1976. All experiencing the ghostly chill of ancient Arctic ice sheets, coupled with wicked winds born out of eons old glaciers gone by, as that mighty ice slowly melts into oblivion…
But not today! That bloody Keystone XL Pipeline (that would, if all that dirty tar sands oil was unearthed up in Alberta, Canada, according to 97 percent of climatologist worldwide, ’spell lights out for the environment…’), was shot down yesterday afternoon by the U.S. Senate, in a 59-41 vote, with that body needing a 60 vote filibuster proof majority, which they don’t have, thus, the bill will NOT be going to President Barack Obama’s desk, at least not today…
Hallelujah brother Rosebud!
It was a breath of fresh air, no pun intended, for this nation’s environmental crew. A rag tag group of ‘nobody’s’ who eat, according to the brilliant Joe Scarborough, pontificating again on his “Morning Joe”, lots of Cheetos snack food ‘items’, “…slacking off and bad mouthing your government I’ll bet!”, (credit the film, circa 1982, “An Officer and a Gentleman”).
This group of concerned U.S. citizens regarding oil and gas companies hijacking our democracy with a little letter ‘d’, all in the interest of their PROFIT and the PROFIT of their shareholders. Caring NOTHING about the common American. Jobs? To use your words, are you kidding me John Boehner? ’stupid is as stupid does’ Mr. Speaker!
This concern for our land, air and water is not only growing in size and scope, it will eventually be the topic of the day, the ‘new normal’ as the pundits like to say, and the talk of this GOP taking over such a great country as this, or rather the plutocrats taking it over, will be long in the rear view mirror. For it will be OUR kids and grand kids who take us out of the canyon of fear based politics and those children are FAR more important than the horrible dark monies that have pulled the wool over so many of our citizens eyes, blinding them to the truisms staring them directly in the face, yet not having the voice or passion to do anything about it–YET!
Of course, some of those voices have been cut short with the criminal use of excessive force wielded by ‘men of authority’, thus must rely on the VAST majority to speak on their behalf. I pray that Ferguson, Missouri, today and every day, may find the peace it is looking for. Whatever the verdict in this horrible crime against and unarmed man turns out to be. People must know that violence is never the answer and that the majority of police officers are good people, many times put into bad situations, such as an angry crowd demanding JUSTICE when it looks like that is not going to happen. At least not in St. Louis County anytime soon. Hopefully, Ferguson and other police departments can learn from this incident and make more of an effort to be a part of the community, not apart from it.
However, the core of what is really wrong must be addressed before any of this can happen, i.e. income inequality, lack of opportunity for young black males, etc., and thus, WE, as a nation, if we want to still be a nation, must come to terms with the FACT we are all in this together. WE all breathe the same air, drink the same water and eat the same food, and ultimately were created, according to that document, what is it? The Declaration of Independence? Yes indeed, we were ALL created equal. Perhaps, just perhaps, we may just grab a hold of that concept someday and SEA where it takes US!
Have a nice one!
PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
