Golden Boy

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  It is, as always, so good to be with you on this beautiful morning here on Cape, as we experienced a very windy day yesterday, with cooler temperatures expected soon… The same cannot be said for the political weather in Washington D.C., as it is heating up to be quite the show down in a little less than a month and a half–the November 2nd elections to determine who will hold power in the House of Representatives and the United States Senate…a very important time for this nation (please VOTE), a nation that is at a crossroads both fiscally and morally.  John Boehner said on “Face the Nation” this past week end, that even though only 3 percent of “small businesses” make over 250,000. dollars a year, they make up for over half of “small business” revenues.  That small sliver of honesty, begs the question, how small can these “small businesses” really be?  In typical Orwellian fashion, really, really BIG, that’s how small.  You know, war is peace and up is down…  H&R Block, the tax people, reports that it has 1.5 million businesses, and if the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, meant to be temporary tax cuts, are you listening Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell (R-KY)?, are allowed to expire, it would only effect one half of one percent of those said, “small businesses.”  According to the “Joint Committee on Taxation”, via the federal government, fewer than 750,000 people, or a quarter of one percent, would be affected by this top rate that was in place during the Clinton years.  Similarly, the House and Ways committee said, in a footnote, literally, this: “According to the Joint Committee on taxation, 94 percent of all small businesses in 2007 were “S” corporations, partnerships, or sold proprietorships-”pass through” business types, used by small business.”  They are called “pass through” companies because they file no taxes, passing through profits to the “owners” who report them on their individual income tax returns instead.  In short, they are considered small, not because they have a small payroll, but because they have a small number of owners.  In the case of S corporations, up to 100 owners.  So, the argument used by the republicans regarding small business is defined as any company that has an “S corp” status next to it’s shingle.  Keith Olberman, of “Countdown, with Keith Olberman,” airing every week night at 8 & 11 p.m., EST, on MSNBC, gave us a real glimpse into what and who these small businesses really are on last night’s show, and here is a list of what John, “billy bob”, Boehner (R-OH) is talking about when he speaks of those poor small businesses… Enterprise Products Partners L.P., 2009 revenues of 25 billion, Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts & Co., 2009 revenues of 445 million, the accounting firm of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2009 revenues of 26 billion, The Koch brothers, David and Charles, whose own web site lists partnership after partnership, that make up a business empire of over 70,000 employees–the list goes on and on.  Over 1 million people who admitted over $200,000. in income in 2008 were partnerships and S Corps.  89 percent of those who make more than 10 million a year filed as a partnership or as an S Corp, and in 2008 more than 500,000 “small businesses” had more than 1 million in assets.  In 2005 more than 20,000 individuals made more than 50 million dollars.  You don’t know who these S corporations are, because the IRS does not release individual tax returns, as the companies earnings have been “passed through” to the individual tax “payer”.  “S Corp” is a lobbying group in Washington that includes directors from Ferrellgas, a propane and gas distributor with “small business” revenues of 2 billion in 2009, with over 1 million customers.  Coorstek, another example, of that with 549 million in profits in 2000, Dead River Company, 2009 revenues of over 500 million, and the McIlHenny Co., makers of your favorite Tabasco pepper sauce, and selling it to 160 countries world wide, brought in revenues in 2007 of 250 million, and finally my good friends at Fidelity Investments, here in Boston, who has announced that it was becoming an S corporation, laughed all the way to the “bank” with 2009 revenues totaling 11.5 billion dollars!  And, by becoming an S corporation, saved this “small business” hundreds of millions of dollars.  Like Fidelity, the small town paper called “The Chicago Tribune”, followed that business logic, whose annual revenues were 4.2 billion in 2009, saved an estimated 1.9 billion, by converting to S corp status.  Bechtel, a small business that builds airports, seaports, railroads, oil refineries, nuclear power plants, etc., who also built the Hoover Dam, in 2009 brought in a whopping 31 billion in revenues, and with 49,000 employees, and considered the world’s largest engineering and construction firm, is considered, by the republican party, A SMALL BUSINESS! Keith had, as his guest on last night’s show, David Cay Johnston, the author of “Free Lunch”, who is a Pulitzer Prize winner and a professor at Syracuse University in upstate New York, who told us that it is much worse than it appears.  Many of these “small businesses” pay no taxes right now at all, sometimes for 10-20 years out, while the “American people” finance their business practices.  It is another example of how the “American People” are being had by this sick ‘Morning in America’ agenda and how the little guy is subsidizing the lifestyle of the rich and famous. It has also been reported that 900 of these “small businesses” paid no taxes at all in 2009, even at the personal level of the owner.  The reason why the tax code is so thick, according to Johnston, having nothing to do with the average tax payer in the U.S., rather, it has everything to do with “favors” bought by campaign contributions, with the implied agreement that those “donations” will provide the policy that keeps the rich RICH and the poor, well, poorer–giving you the overall big picture.  He went on to say that some economic “theories” state that when a nation raises taxes, we have less job creation.  The opposite is the case with these S corps, for they are job killers, not the other way around.  In 1993, Bill Clinton, had congress raise taxes, and eight years later they were cut, and then again, ten years later under President George “W” Bush.  During Bush’s eight years in the White House, 3 million jobs were created, whereas, under President Clinton’s eight years in that same White House, 6 times as many jobs were created, or 21 million jobs, creating a FACT that during Clinton’s reign, more jobs were created during those eight years than in the 20 years of Ronald Reagan and both Bush’s, father and son, combined.  Chris Hayes, senior editor of “The Nation” magazine, stated that, “…this exposes the political economy of the past 30 or 40 years.  We know what the republicans are attempting to do, but what of the “blue dog democrats” who are supposedly really “concerned” about the deficit?”  They are not concerned about the deficit, for extending these Bush tax cuts will only exacerbate the structural economic problem in the United States right now, and, if they were being honest with themselves and “the American People”, would tell you that their only real concern is taking care of the rich, the people who give them lots of money in order for them to get re-elected, and thus, being a bought and sold commodity, are now just another puppet in the anti-Jim Henson Muppet show currently playing on every street corner around the country.  One rich, right wing family funding the GOP, or RTP, “republican tea party”, over and over again, creating, silently, the plutocracy that I have been speaking to for quite some time now–rule by the wealthy.  In other words, it is an infinite loop of corrupt tax codes that only serve the super wealthy and is designed to continue spinning in perpetual motion, for the more money the individual super wealthy families continue to give to the morally bankrupt RTP, the more assured they are of having the status quo remain in place, assuring them further, of more and more revenue and thus, PROFIT. As the poor in this nation continue to get weaker and weaker, sicker and sicker, hungrier and hungrier, they will just stand there and say, “what a shame about those poor people in New Orleans, or Detroit, or the streets of “Anytown USA…” This is no longer a nation, it is a Ponzi scheme of shysters and crooks, a rigged system that rewards corruption, yet speaks of high values and moral imperatives, and as the stench of their hypocrisy continues to drift upwards to the GOD that they lay claim to, the country that they also claim to love is being ripped apart at the seams and sold off to the highest bidder, one Mountain top at a time.  It is a power play by the nation’s plutocrats, as evidenced by the Citizens United Case, that now has the Supreme Court of the United States, the highest court in the land, on the side of these inhuman sharks (no offense to natural sharks).  The flood gates have been opened and, as one democrat on the hill said recently, “we are getting killed with all of the money that is flowing in, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.”  Who is the bullhorn, the propaganda machine for this corrupt political animal called the RTP?  FOX NEWS, and moreover, also one of the largest fund raisers for political hacks like Sharron “Angle”, Senate hopeful from the great state of Nevada.  Her favorite stooge is Sean Hannity, of FOX “NEWS”, whose softball show offers you no real questions (or information/answers) and gives you plenty of opportunity to send your checks to “candidates” like the “second amendment remedies” lady, a real nut case, who recently, at a house party, (and was taped), audio provided by the Las Vegas Sun, said this, “But, here’s the deal, when I get a friendly press outlet–not so much the guy interviewing me–it’s their audience I’m trying to reach.  They say, ‘Bill O’Reilly’, you better watch out for that guy, he’s not necessarily a “friendly”, it doesn’t matter.  His audience is friendly.  And if I can get and opportunity to say that at least once on his show (I need money)–when I said it on Sean Hannity’s television show, we made 40,000 dollars before we even got out of the studio in New York, it was just great.”  So, there you have it folks, the real TRUTH, nothing held back, about who the RTP really is, who they stand behind and who butters their bread.  There is no gray area here.  The game has been rigged for the past 30 years or more and it, like Johnston said, is only the tip of the iceberg, for if these tax breaks are extended, when do you think the tide will turn back to sanity?  Will the now rigged Supreme Court save us from these criminals? The way this nation is going, the United States of America as we now know it, will cease to exist, for in 20 or 30 years time, if this trend continues, the poor will look more like the citizens of countries like Haiti, Nigeria, or Sudan.  They will be herded into poor camps and fed the worst of food, with ideas like health care becoming a distant memory and, for the first time in our history, the mindless and soul LESS “leaders” will come to a reckoning, an individual reckoning of monumental proportions, as they look up and realize that this is not what “Christianity” is all about, it IS about PEACE ON EARTH and LOVING EACH OTHER, you know, as Jesus said, “as I have Loved you.”  Have a nice day folks!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
