Go gold fish!
Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the golden sun laden, calm, warming island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this eve of the eve of July 4th in this here US of A! Coming to you LIVE from a busy 8:04 a.m. Hyannis/Hyannis Port Waterfront(s), as “Iyanough” (fast ferry over to Nantucket via the Steamship Authority), gets ready to blow her horn and set sail to that magical island roughly 30 odd nautical miles south/southeast of the main hub on a little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by ‘The Last Great Ice Age’. Indeed, on this Thursday, the 2nd day of July, 2015, WE all gather round our respect groups and reflect on how and more importantly why this union was forged to begin with?
Bueller…Bueller…Anyone? Bueller? (credit the classic film, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, starring the great Mathew Broderick, circa 1986).
Here on Cape, fireworks will go off in many locals, such as in the small, quaint villages of Mashpee, Yarmouth, Falmouth, Oyster Harbors…, for it was here that the first settlers from that old world entered this new one, filled with challenges and inspiration alike. The Puritans, a God fearing crew, found a way to work with the indigenous people who, by definition, lived here first, the Wampanoag, thereby creating that “more perfect union” even if it only lasted for a half century or so before the ‘white man’ completely took over and transformed what this land once was into what it is today.

-credit the late, great Rodney Dangerfield, from the cult classic film of that auspicious year of 1980 (a year when all this ‘fun’ began), “Caddyshack”. A scene with Rodney commenting on his Chinese friend and his shall we say over-exuberance in taking pictures of what is clearly a parking lot at “Bushwood Country Club”; begging the question–considering our current trade deficit with said country, along with the currency manipulation, worker rights, pay, safety, and theft of 25 million U.S. manufacturing jobs by way of this “New World Order”, a new system that favors the giant multinationals while hurting mom and pop shops in America–Independence from what? Moreover, from whom?-
Those first Pilgrims landed only a few miles from where I write these words, in what is known today as “Coast Guard Beach” in Chatham. In the early 1600’s the “United States of America” was not even a concept and yet, almost 240 years later, this great land has become the richest and most powerful force on planet earth, well, the richest .001 percent on planet earth any hoot-ski. And those ‘great’ banks (plus the oil and gas, pharmaceutical, industrialized ‘farming’, chemical multinationals, etecetera…), have prospered on that basic fact. “Globalization’s” modus operandi: profit over people…
How many of the rest of US take that philosophy to heart?
On “Independence Day” keep this thought in mind…
How far have we really come as a peoples, how far from the days of the corrupt and greedy King George III of Great Britain?
How far away from the blind tyranny, the mind control, the out of control greed, manipulation, lies, corruption, philandering, and rape and pillaging of the lands?
HOW FAR?
Have a great 4th everybody; ever keeping in mind what that word INDEPENDENCE infers!
