Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cloudy, cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Sunday morning, the fourth day of March, 2012, a quite one on Cape, Cotuit to be precise, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, as some of us settle in to watch the echo chamber that is Washington D.C. politics and the media coverage of said political/special interest leaders, hard to distinguish sometimes, as most Americans are oblivious to what is REALLY going down. The Midwest and South of the United States of America dig out today from yet another natural disaster of ‘biblical proportions’. The tornadoes that touched down this past week have left whole communities in rubble, wiped from the face of the earth, with story after heart wrenching story of entire families being taken away by the wicked winds, save one infant girl named ‘Angel’ who is is critical condition as I write these words. May your prayers, whatever the ’side of the aisle’ you may be on, be with that little girl today. For I truly believe we need to pull together as a country and stop allowing a few greedy plutocrats to destroy this precious, as precious as LIFE itself because it IS life itself, ENVIRONMENT! For if we continue to put the cart in front of the horse, if we, as noted by the upside down image of a man’s ‘footprint’, continue to turn a blind eye to proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, scientific, empirical truisms about what our continued use and abuse of fossil fuels and what that activity is actually doing to our planet’s environment–i.e. creating stronger storms via the man made warming of the earth’s temperatures to the point where not only are the polar ice caps melting, but giant ice sheets in Antarctica are as well, not to mention Greenland and every glacier on the planet (such as the Himalayan glacier fields that supply water the billions of people who rely on say the Yellow River for sustenance), forcing the seas to rise and wipe out entire island countries such as the Island of the Maldives–we are dooming the very place we all call home for the moment, a place, I think we all can agree, we would like to leave a tad better than when we found it, you know, for our kids and grand kids… This does not even begin to get into all of the Methane gas, 20-30 times more potent than carbon dioxide, yes, Methane that is trapped in the frozen tundra, both in the sea and on land, a gas that will begin to be released en masse, creating a vicious cycle of warming that, if it actually happens, will create a planet that is 4 degrees warmer than it is today. Meaning the seas will rise exponentially, as that light switch has now been turned on completely, creating a world that few can visualize as it would be too chaotic to comprehend. Still want to ‘embrace’ that pipeline Bill? More on that Keystone XL pipeline, the tar sands profit center from Alberta Canada for BIG OIL, tomorrow, for it is far better to KNOW the TRUTH than to be ignorant of it, thus a victim of history. Have a wonderful day folks and please say a prayer for those fellow American citizens in the Midwest and South, especially Angel, who were devastated by those vicious tornadoes ripping through the area only 48 hours or so ago. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
