Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on a very early Monday morning here in Osterville, roughly 5:58 a.m., with a stiff breeze flying out of the Northwest, ushering in much cooler temperatures for Cape Cod and the islands, as summer has definitely passed us by for the year of 2010. I hope you are warm and safe wherever you may be finding yourself this morning and your week looks bright and cheerful. I wonder if the RTP, “republican tea party”, has the same in mind for this lame duck session of congress that we will all be watching prior to the elections that will be held on November 2, 2010 to determine who will either take control or maintain power in the House of Representatives, as it looks like the Senate is out of reach for the republican party at this juncture. We have had some fun watching these “amateur” politicians fall all over themselves while they try and explain their past–such as witchcraft, employing “illegals”, inciting violence with “second amendment remedies” and the proclamation that Social Security, the Department of Education, the Environmental Protection Agency, Wall Street reform, the health care LAW, medicare, the Veterans Administration and several other RADICAL departures from the will of the “American People” will all be on the chopping block for the puppets of plutocracy to demonize and destroy–effectively taking us back to the policies of George W. Bush and more to the point, the real policies of the forming plutocracy, the “free market” concepts, employed by former Secretary of the Treasury during the Reagan administration, Donald Regan. Regan was the CEO of Meryl Lynch during the late 1970’s and upon the inauguration of Ronald Reagan to the White House in 1980, the former spokesperson for the far right via countless television advertisements in the 1960’s, chose, or rather, they chose him (ha), (Mr. Regan) to head up the Treasury Department. His first job, to deregulate the banking industry, which has continued, unabated for the most part, for the past 30 years. Because of this deregulation, we have seen the rise of Globalization and one financial crisis after the next, with it all culminating in 2008 with the collapse of Lehman Brothers, a giant investment bank on New York’s Wall Street, where trillions of dollars were lost in the “stock” market, as American investors, mostly 401(k) and pension participants were the big losers. WE, being the real people of the United States, believed Hank Paulson, former Treasury Secretary under “W”, when he came, red faced and shaking to the “American People”, that cold and scary day, and asked for an 800 billion dollar bailout–written on a three page document, to bail out WALL STREET and companies like AIG, who sold “insurance policies” on questionable “derivatives”, credit default swaps, the highly sophisticated financial instruments that you need a PhD in math from MIT to understand, (some investment banks, like Goldman Sachs, knew some derivatives were bogus, yet encouraged their own investors to buy them), and hence, sucked up the loss and agreed with our former President, and his “troubled assets rehabilitation program”, and more to the point, believed it was all on the up and up, like the good sports (suckers) WE all are. However, when jobs continued hemorrhaging in 2009, when Obama took office, to the tune of 700,000 jobs a month, and as the corporate squeeze was on, companies continuing to ship manufacturing overseas, the “American People” knew that something smelled really bad in Denmark. It is unfair to judge the state of the U.S. economy on the past two years of digging an entire nation out of a ditch that George W. Bush put us in, with the help of 22 years prior to that idiot being in office. This is what the republicans are offering, the “new” status quo–the deregulation philosophy that is now so entrenched in Washington D.C.. The country is actually heading in the RIGHT direction, therefore, to even consider going back to the “fiscally responsible” republicans, even for a moment, is complete and utter FOLLY. This group of clowns, such as John, “billy bob”, Boehner, Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell, or even Sarah, “I shoot innocent wolves from the comfort of my helicopter”, Palin, and their “Lemon Pledge to America” (credit Keith Olbermann), nothing more than a dusted off copy of the failed ideology of the republican party’s 1994 “Contract with America”, (should have been called “take a contract out on America”), represents a GIANT STEP BACKWARDS and rest assured, if they gain power in the House, will stall this government’s engine with nonsense such as hearings on the legitimacy of our very legitimate and excellent President of the United States, Barrack Obama, who has done more for this country than 90 percent of it’s citizens realize at this moment in “time”. So, on this “First Monday in October”, a great film starring the late, great Walter Matthau, who, if alive today, would agree with me, this first day of the new year, for the United States Supreme Court, should be spent reviewing the wisdom of allowing mult-national corporations to have the same rights as real live human beings, via the Citizens United case, and, moreover, the fact that they can now pump unlimited amounts of money into any campaign, without the public even knowing where the money is coming from–this policy, or “ruling”, should be reviewed today, if not by the questionable Roberts court, than by a higher court–the highest court of all. Because of this unwise ruling, you have corporations, and the men who run them, the “man behind the curtain”, buying a puppet from “politicians-r-us”, parading it around as if it were a real candidate, you know, one who knows what the hell is going on, spending enormous amounts of cash on getting “it” elected and then, presto, you have a real, live, bought and sold puppet who will take his/her place on the anti-Jim Henson Muppet Show currently playing on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., USA…a puppet who will do and, more importantly, VOTE the way of the corporate WILL, their hollow modus of operandi, “PROFIT OVER PEOPLE.” Fight Back AMERICA, VOTE on November 2! Have a nice week folks. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
