Detente?

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cool, crisp, partly sunny, beautiful island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Friday morning, the second day of November, 2012, a relatively cold start to the early seven a.m. hour here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, looking above you at the “Mariner’s Chapel” on Main street above the trees that are “all the right height” as we look forward to this most pivotal election for this young 236 year old nation, a nation founded upon some simple, yet powerful principals, none so much as the right to VOTE, and in only five days, every citizen must exercise that RIGHT to vote no matter what intimidation tactics may be used by some far right wing nut extremists who wish to turn the clock back on women’s rights, minority rights, social safety nets (such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Planned Parenthood and FEMA) among many other rather insane ‘ideas’, bringing US backwards and adding to the burden of a shrinking middle class and working poor, while those at the top of the food chain continue to get unfair tax breaks, i.e. the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, tax breaks that lead to the lion’s share of the debt our great President Barack Obama inherited from said past administration.  It was heartening to SEA a good man, in the form of republican governor Chris Christie board “Marine One” with said President only a few hours ago, surveying the devastation that New Jersey’s beautiful shore endured, with millions still without power, not to mention those poor 70 plus souls who lost their lives in Hurricane Sandy’s wake, as well as the estimated 50 billion dollars in damage from that super storm that also ravaged New York City, Long Island, much of Connecticut, West Virginia, among other states.  To hear the praises lauded upon our President by Christie was not only inspiring, but proved that both “sides of the aisle” can, and must, work together for the good of the common man or woman–for that is why they were placed in office to serve the begin with.  Hat’s off to you Governor, you are a gentleman and a scholar!  So the next time you hear someone like a Mitt Romney state he would privatize FEMA, the federal emergency management agency, putting it the ‘capable’ hands of say a Bain Capital or some other special interest group, throwing it back to the states and in effect saying “you are on your own”, just remember they don’t have your back, they only have their own in heart, bank account and soul in mind, that is, of course, assuming they still have one (heart and soul) in tact “at this juncture”.  Have a wonderful week end folks and please VOTE on November 6th, only five days away, for it is paramount to our success as a nation, a nation that can, and will, bounce back from some rather dubious moves the previous administration put on a credit card.  Bon Chance Mr. President, Bon Chance indeed! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
