Cape Shower

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the rainy island of Nantucket!  Great to be back with you on this dark and stormy morning here on Cape, Tuesday morning, the sixth day of September, 2011, Brewster to be precise, and I pray ‘ya’ll’ had a great week end, hopefully one that was not filled with political rhetoric that we in the ‘news’ business must endure day in and day out, perhaps taking in a good movie such as a Turner Classic Film that starred Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClain’s 1960 magic named, “Let’s make Love”… One can always dream, can one not?  However, the week end is over for the moment and it is back to the wonderful world of obstructionists, cynics, pundits, politics, and pageantry.  This week, we have a blockbuster, assuming you have at least a little of that addiction to politics in America, in this late year of 2011…  The republicans–Rick, “I’m holding”, Perry (Governor of Texas) leading the way with 38 percent, Willard, “Mitt”, Romney coming in at 23 percent and our friend Michelle, “I’m not homophobic”, Bachmann falling back to fourth place at 8 percent–will be debating with each other this week on NBC, to see who is more to the ‘right’ of the other, as they all jockey for the one job and only job they are concerned about in America today…President Barack Obama’s.  Meanwhile, our current President, who was in Detroit yesterday giving a jobs speech, will be giving an even bigger speech, and hopeful blue print, on Thursday in an attempt to call the republicans out on their obstructionism, a ploy that has worked thus far.  There is no doubt that this country is in trouble.  Never before, at least since the Great Depression, has the length of ‘time’ been so great for those out of work in so far as the amount of weeks it takes to find that employment, standing at 40 plus.  However, what is more disturbing is the FACT that most of those jobs, now overseas, will not be returning–EVER.  The people that are being hurt the most are the under educated young, the old, the poor, and minority groups such as young African American males whose unemployment stands at 16.7 percent.  That segment of OUR population has been left out of the equation, as if they are no longer part of this country, and for many Americans, perhaps the majority, feeling of those same sentiments as well.  With the ‘Grand Canyon’ gap between the haves and the have nots continuing to widen, the ‘American People’, that Mitch,“I’m not a mouse”, McConnell (R-KY) speaks of so often and so arrogantly ‘for’, grow more and more concerned about their futures everyday, with that gap, silently, getting that much more obvious.  They see candidates like “Mitt” Romney stating, “…corporations are people too my friend”, and wonder yet again, “whose side are these guys on anyway?” Of course, our friend Dick Cheney exemplified this point so well in his fictional novel, “In My Time”, a point that gaffes, like the aforementioned, might just finally wake people up to what these clowns have been all about from the get go--THE MONEY. “You’re all about the money”, said one reporter at seacapecod.net, money for “people” like Exxon-Mobile, Goldman Sachs, Koch Industries, Massey Energy, “United” Healthcare , or some obscure hedge fund group in Greenwich, Connecticut, far away from the streets of Detroit, in the state of Michigan, where “they”, a republican governor, named Rick Snyder, are taking over entire towns and closing up shop, leaving the “American People of Michigan” high and dry, or, as in the case of this past week and a half with Hurricane Irene, underwater and drowning in yet another natural disaster that is a direct result of climate change.  More about that on tomorrow’s broadcast.  For the layman, this is not as clear as it should be, and to that WE charge the President to be SPECIFIC and EXPLAIN, like a junior high school teacher, what needs to be done to get the people of this great land back to a job that can at least pay for a ‘Big Mac’ every now and again, as sad as that sounds.  For there are many in this country who go without food, as their unemployment benefits have run out, utilizing their measly 140 dollars in food stamps every month to buy enough to feed their kids and themselves, with most relying on food banks that have no food to give.  “Who are these guys anyway?? ” (credit the late, great Paul Newman in the classic film “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”…also starring the incomparable actor and environmentalist Robert Redford).  Not very funny, but really, who are these guys and what vision is this for a country that was based on the concept of ‘WE THE PEOPLE’?  Hope you have a wonderful week ahead, stay dry and safe and please remember to read BETWEEN the lines, the ever nauseating talking points that are laid out by people like me, writers, who help our friends on the right with the key WORDS, that act as a virtual dog whistle to those who are dispossessed, dispirited, disillusioned, and deeply disappointed.   God bless us EVERYONE!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
