Cape Cod Salute
Greetings and that salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautifully sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, President’s Day week end, the eighteenth day of February, 2012, as WE, here on Cape Cod and the islands, extend a wish, set aside for presumably all President’s past and present, for peace on earth and good will towards men. This week end is notably celebrating two of our most profound and important leaders in this great nation’s history, President Abraham Lincoln and President George Washington, two men separated by seventy plus years or so, a real life time in politics, facing the same basic dilemma, tyranny and/or slavery, a problem this nation has faced since it’s inception 236 years ago. Flash forward to today’s 2012, where the world has become smaller than a micro-chip, where people can reach out and touch ideas once foreign and unavailable to them because of international borders and lack of an instant social media presence, a presence that HAS changed the world forever, thus, brought countries ever closer together. The one constant one could say about the United States of America, is the fact that WE, collectively as a people, have always stood up for what is RIGHT, such as fighting the atrocities Hitler and the Nazi regime, a true evil on the planet that was wiped out by what Tom Brokaw so profoundly calls, “The Greatest Generation”, a generation that, after winning that bloody war, came home and rebuilt a dying country, barely surviving the Robber Baron’s Great Depression, creating a middle class that, albeit hurt by the greed so prevalent in today’s corporate culture, has begun to return, thanks to the rebirth of GM and Detroit, the backbone of this nation’s freedom from economic tyranny. May this nation continue to thrive and reach it’s evolutionarily potential, even if it faces tough opposition from some who don’t believe in evolution, let alone science and the empirical facts of Knowledge therein.
