Cape Cod Hydrangea

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:46 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket! Just returning from East Bay this morning to check on my sailboat, a little 14.2 Capri, at East Bay here in Osterville. As I was looking out at another beautiful sunrise, I turned to my boat and much to my surprise once again was an Osprey, a bird of prey, a great fisherman in the bird kingdom, sitting atop my mast. He took off in the direction of Hyannis Port and then returned once again to his perch atop my boat, “Ti amo”, where he watched the sun rise with me… I spent much of the afternoon yesterday watching the World Cup with Spain and Germany playing world class football against the backdrop of millions of others doing the same. With all of the bad news occurring in this here United States of ours, it was a true joy to see the world coming together for something that doesn’t involve bullets or bombs. You might say that the people in the stands at “soccer city” in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the hundreds of millions of football fans around the world watching on television, could care less about the crooked politics in Washington D.C., an oil “spill” that is destroying the southern coast of the North American continent, the war in Afghanistan, and the fact that a democrat, Senator Bill Nelson of Nebraska is holding up unemployment benefits for 2 million Americans who are dizzy, discouraged and living in fear here in the good ‘ole USA…USA, USA, USA! You could make the argument, as our country is moving backwards, due to out of control greed and power play, that the rest of the world is leaving us behind. Listening to “Senators” and “congressman” who get up and give long winded speeches on the floors of both the Senate and Congress about how these poor people who (for every one job that is available, there are 6 applicants) are literally, “Lost in America”, should, “just go out and get a job”, while, at the same time, belittling and, dare I say, de-humanizing them with derogatory terms like “hobo” and “spoiled citizenry”, is enough to make you physically ill. Please add a little more salt into that gaping wound, would you please? Again, hats off to the soul-less republican strategists (please visit one today at word doctors.com), for they have created a divide, so clear and real, that most Americans have no idea of who they should trust and where to get the information to gain a foothold on the TRUTH as to what is really going on in this torn country of ours. As I watched the rest of the game, ending at 4:30 p.m. EST, with Spain gaining the win and it’s first trip to the finals of the World Cup, I looked and listened to the announcers speaking of the game and games to come, the players exchanging jerseys in true sportsman like style, and the view of fans from some of our European forefathers, brought me a little closer to the world–bringing me back to England where I lived during my final year of high school and first year of college. Differences being celebrated, not demonized, brings it all home to what it is really all about–brotherhood, with a little friendly competition, allowing us all to be human again, if only for a few moments, with the world as our witness. Hats off as well to Chris Mathews and his show, “Hardball”, airing weeknights on MSNBC at 5 and 7 p.m., where he expressed his thoughts eloquently by stating the division in this country in terms of two types of people–those who want positive things for this nation and those who want discord and destruction, fueling the anger, strike that, rage, that is needed (by the p.o.h.n.) to create a true plutocracy. How much further would you like the average American citizen to go down the scale Mr. Boehner? If that is your real name. “I put it to you Greg, you can do what you want with us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you bad mouth the Constitution of the United States, gentleman!”, or so said “Otter” in the cult film classic, circa 1978, “Animal House”. For that is what this is becoming, and “Animal House of Representatives”, and Senators, who live off of other people’s suffering. There, is has been said, that IS what’s going on and we should, as a proud people, not pretend that it is not. When you have nominees (and indeed current members of the Senate and congress) making statements to the national “press” (stating the tired old cliche of “what the American people want”, as if John, “orange juice”, Boehner (R-OH) and Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell (R-KY) have any clue to what an average American “small”, poor person wants or needs) to the tune of “If the American people don’t get their way, (i.e. the corporations that control Mr. Boehner), we may have to invoke “second amendment remedies.” Making comments like Boehner did a few days ago, a statement that he had to walk back, “the second amendment remedy talking point number 537 (wink, wink-nudge-nudge)”, while he was simultaneously supposed to be bailing out “that crazy lady” and nominee for Harry Reid’s Senate seat, Ms. Sharron “Angle”, who is suing Senator Reid for posting the truth on his website regarding “Angle’s” real life, televised, photographed and notarized comments about what else?, “second amendment remedies”–you can see that we have a big problem Houston! You can’t write stuff any better than this! So, I thank you Chris Mathews, for all your work and for that insight, for if more true journalists simply had the courage to tell the truth, the “American People” would have the opportunity to simply be the American people once again–ALL respected, honored and cherished in a country that was founded on the principal of “WE THE PEOPLE”. GOD’S SPEED to the GULF–all of the people, sea creatures, BROWN PELICANS and marsh lands therein…may you have a better day soon. Have a nice day everybody! Peace~M
