Cape Cardinal

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:17 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the warm, windy, rainy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the seventh day of December, 2011, a dark morning at that, but, according to Thompson-Reuters, the sun will be making it’s appearance relatively soon…  The national tone has been turned, the volume that is, all the way up, as President Barack Obama evoked the spirit of President Theodore Roosevelt in Osawatomie, Kansas, yesterday that has everyone around the country buzzing.  Roosevelt, in his 1910 “New Nationalism” speech, addressing problems that mirror our challenges today, must have, thank God, made quite an impression on our young, very fine President, as it was all fire and brimstone all up in that small town Kansas, something this country is very grateful for I can tell you straight up.  Teddy Roosevelt was no longer President in that year of 1910, however, his fight against the Absolutists, the Koch brothers of today, raged on until his death.  You remember the owners of the governorships in Ohio, Michigan, Florida and especially Wisconsin?  Sure you do!  They are the scumbags who pine for that old system Teddy fought his whole life against–a system of government that leaves it’s citizens, ‘on their own’, while the few Robber Barons at the top (the top one tenth of the top one percent in some industries), in today’s day and age, rape and pillage at will, leaving ‘Old Glory’ tattered and torn, with 99 percent of her citizens feeling helpless to do anything about it.  Come on folks! If the founding fathers could face down British destroyers, a brutal King, and the cold, harsh reality of life back in the late 1700’s North America (no comcast, sorry), I believe this nation can take it’s VALUES back from the likes of a David Koch, whose life has been all about collecting more silver spoons to put in his corrupt coffers, ever feeding a hunger that eternally cries out, “PROFIT OVER PEOPLE, profit over people, profit over people….”, (“…hope it’s a nice coffee shop Jack”, credit the classic film, “Midnight Run”, starring Charles Grodin and Robert DeNiro).  I must think it would be awfully difficult to go to sleep at night with all of that racket going on in your head, ‘what are your thoughts on that Hobson?’, (again, credit the late, great Dudley Moore, and Sir John Gielgud, from the classic film, “Arthur”).  This incredible speech by President Roosevelt, a big tree hugger himself, outlined a new vision for the federal government, insisting it should look out for the common man or woman, making a fair playing field again out of what was once an overwhelmingly corrupt system hell bent on hijacking OUR democracy, with that little letter ‘d’.  A democracy being taken over by laissez-faire, ‘free market’, trickle down, voodoo economics, a plan that WE can all see has, like history tends to do, repeated itself, with the current(v) crop of ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ trying like heck fire to convince you and yours that all of that crap that happened during the past ten years, crap that was of THEIR making, yes, all of that war, tax breaks for the rich, pharma sweetheart deals, all of that, not to mention the casino of Wall Street owning Washington D.C., yes, all of that was an illusion, it never happened, thus, they must be implying that they wish to repeat that all over again, literally bringing US back to the gilded age, the age Teddy Roosevelt lived in, or, even further back than that, hell, why not all the way back to Medieval times, where old “Newt” can dawn a King Arthur costume as he ‘pretends’ to have an honest shot at being our next president.  Perhaps I should just quote the man himself, President Roosevelt, on that day over one hundred years ago…“I stand for the square deal, but when I say that I am for the square deal, I mean not merely that I stand for fair play under the present rules of the game, but that I stand for having those rules changed so as to work for a more substantial equality of opportunity and of reward for good service…”. The definition of insanity, the ideology of a global plutocratic vision, is rearing it’s ugly head once again, as it attempts to put the round peg in the square hole one more time, convinced it will fit somehow, thus repeating the same mistakes over and over again, expecting different results, a tired old cliche, but applicable to this current(v) republican crop of puppets in Washington today, for their transparent, thanks to social media and Google, horse$hit is now on display for all the world to see and more importantly hear, putting them once again on the WRONG side of history, and, thus, will be judged accordingly by real historians in the years to come…  If one took the ‘time’ to truly look at all of the issues, real work, it all seems so simple that a child could figure it out, such as the youngster who spoke, perhaps, some sense into the ear of Michelle Bachmann, freezing the congresswoman, maybe bringing some light into the dark cavern of a paranoid, delusional mind that must be very lonely indeed.  When one lives and breathes in darkness, one cannot expect to see the light, in fact, that is what most of these ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ blood members of the ‘Grover Norquist no tax hike death pledge in, again, blood’ pact must feel like day in and day out, as they return home to their constituents who are literally staving to death, homeless and helpless to do anything about it.   Love thine enemies, or agape, is, perhaps, the hardest pill of ALL (from the real teachings of the GOP’s religion of choice, mandated I believe, “Christianity”) to swallow for the likes of say, a “she turned me into a Newt” (credit the classic film, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”), Gingrinch.  As a newly confirmed and reborn Catholic (being a recovering Catholic myself, thus possessing some authority on the matter), Newt must have heard the famous Sermon on the Mount, from the book of Mathew, where Jesus imparted…“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love (agape) your neighbor and hate your enemy’. But, I tell you: LOVE (agape) your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in Heaven.  He causes the sun to rise on evil and the good, and sends rains to the righteous and unrighteous.  If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?”– or maybe not, I refuse to judge that.  So today, on this rainy, warm, windy day on little old Cape Cod, Massachusetts, ‘where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air…’ (credit: Don Henley, of ‘The Eagles’), I pray that these right wing crazy people, sorry I can’t help myself, I’m no angel, embrace the essence of their religion of CHOICE, for they cannot have it both ways, as they will KNOW this FACT when we, someday, hopefully many, many years from now, all go and meet our MAKER!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
