The rains came down with authority last night, as I attended the 48th annual Cape Cod Writer’s Conference at the Yarmouth House in Yarmouth. Yarmouth is a little town just east of Hyannis and the Yarmouth House is a landmark on the Cape, especially around Christmas time. The lights of the place are incredible, as this famous restaurant illuminates the Nantucket Sound with white fireflies reflected on the gentle waters. The author of “The Dust Bowl”, whose name escapes me at the moment, was the keynote speaker. He spoke of the struggles that our fellow countrymen went through, as they stayed put in the dust through this challenging time for our country–in the midst of the Great Depression. He spoke of the resiliency of the American soul and its’ will to march on in the face of adversity and doubt. The health care debate was our dust bowl of 2009, and with a little help from above, the public option will be a significant part of the final bill that will pass through the House of Representatives and the United States Senate within the next few months. God, we need all the help we can get. Have a great Wednesday! Peace~ M
