Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the calm, cool, sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Friday morning, the thirtieth day of December, 2011, another beauty on Cape as we say goodbye to a year, 2011, that saw more than it bargained for, seemingly battling one crisis after another, markets up and down, debt crisis abound, political gridlock, a tough U.S. economy, Tsunamis and earthquakes, extreme weather phenomena, as well as a world that is seeing vast changes via social media, all while we sit back and experience a warming planet that is seeing giant ice sheets in Antarctica vanish, as in ‘Larsen B’, from the face of the earth.  This should not alarm anyone however, as that ice sheet acted like a cork in a bottle, keeping the glaciers from marching right on into the open ocean, for millenniums now, causing the seas to rise, eventually, perhaps sooner than later now, by upwards of 10-20 feet.  This being only one ’side effect’ of the use and abuse of fossil fuels, dumping millions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every day.  As we see stronger and stronger storms march across this country of ours, some of US may begin to wake up to a FACT that “WE are all in this together“, to quote Sergeant “Hulka” from the other classic comedy movie ‘of the day’, “Stripes”, continuing, ‘one of these men might save your life someday, did you ever  think about that?’, with Bill Murray piping in, ‘then again, one of them may not.’ .  That’s right, in a country badly in need of a ‘home improvements’ by way of massive nationwide infrastructure repairs to our roads, bridges, dams as well as other permanent “socialistic” structures that serve the greater good, we may just want to do some of that repair before, “the heavy stuff comes down”, a FACT this new far to the right of center (‘not your grandfather’s GOP’) would not understand, as they are ‘hermetically sealed in an alternate universe’ as one great independent film maker put it, and why not?  They don’t KNOW any better.  Most people that were born with a silver spoon in their mouth are accustomed to pampering, attention, and constant praise, a red flag that indicates said person is controlled by his or her ego, thus, not interested in ‘the greater good’, for it has nothing to do with serving the egos’ needs ‘atol.  The lies spun by the political ’super pacs’ or political action committees, are spun on PURPOSE, not by accident, and a lie, by definition, is normally no where near the TRUTH, and the truth IS that this current(v) crop of ‘republicans’ do not have ‘the greater good’ in mind for the common man or woman who simply wants a FAIR shake, some common decency, and a better future for ALL, not just a few.  This all is assuming of course that your definition of ‘greater’ is ‘a majority’, and the last time I checked, being a math wizard and all, 99 percent is a majority is it not?  Moreover, do we not live in a democracy?  “I put it to you Greg”, if we are to blame the economy on a President who has the majority of ‘the American People” in mind, a President who is trying to do everything in his power to turn this ship around, a ship that has many a scallywag on it, by way of corrupt lobbying practices in D.C., ushering in big time corporate monies into the original and still the best American ‘democratic’ political system, steering legislation their way, while destroying environmental and financial regulations, yes, if we are to blame this President for the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War, and the costs we incurred from them, total cost, 4.1 trillion, along with more than 4400 soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqis dead, combined with the Bush tax cuts, another 4.1 trillion, coupled with a trillion dollar big pharma sweetheart deal, as well as the sub-prime mortgage fiasco (all due to a meltdown of real financial oversight and regulations on Wall Street, regulations with big tiger like teeth), that led to the greatest financial collapse in U.S. history next to the Great Depression over eighty years ago...”then the whole democratic philosophy established by the original founders of this nation, direct from Europe, are to blame, and if that is true, than is this not an indictment of our entire social system as a whole?  Well, you can do what you want with US, but we are not going to sit here and listen to you bad mouth the United States of America!  Gentlemen”…(credit “Otter”, from the classic 1978 film, “Animal House”, starring the late, great John Belushi).  That is all.  Have a nice day folks and keep on dodgin’ those wooden nickles offered up by Sean Hannity, ‘he ain’t sellin’ any alibis, as you stare into the empty vacuum of his eyes…’. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
