All Aboard?

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:12 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the brilliantly blue skied island of Nantucket! Like a jewel in the ocean, Nantucket Sound, and all of the other bodies of water that inhabit this fabled land, look priceless at this eight a.m. hour, eastern standard ‘time’, March the 5th, 2012, as I’m just returning from ‘Ropes Beach’, here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, and I don’t think this humble reporter has ever seen such an amazing greeting to the day, with the lone sail boat, a Wianno Junior, presiding in the still, mirrored water, like a queen at court, as the ducks move clumsily by her, oblivious to the majesty that is all around them.  Or are they? If you asked one of our friends on the other “side of the aisle”, “at the end of the day”, if ‘this is all worth saving’, ya know, the ENVIRONMENT, moreover, perhaps willing to take another look at the scientific, empirical, FACTS about climate change, rather, the warming of the earth’s atmosphere due to the continued unabated use and abuse of fossil fuels, creating an increased output of carbon dioxide, thus, trapping the sun’s solar energy within the atmosphere, thereby increasing the temperature of the earth’s surface by 1-2 degrees Fahrenheit…oh, let’s just forget about the whole damn thing!  What?  More of this environmental dribble?  To quote our dear friend John Boehner, the fine Speaker of the House, ‘uuuuggggghhhhhh!.  No, f that, let us continue…This does not consider the methane gas that is trapped, methane being 20-30 times more potent than carbon, in the frozen tundra all over the globe, that, if released due to rising temperatures, would only exacerbate the problem by trapping more heat from the sun, insuring rising seas, more powerful storms, severe droughts of epic proportion, that’s right, “cats and dogs, living together mass hysteria!” (credit Bill Murray and Harold Ramis from the classic 1984 film “Ghostbusters!”). Sorry to break it down like that, but after witnessing 79 tornadoes on Friday of this past week, I can only shake my head at guests like the republican stooge of the week, too harsh?, on Bill Maher’s HBO hit, “REAL TIME”, who said on that show just this past week, that, and I accurately paraphrase here, “I truly believe that global warming IS a hoax, and these filthy, liberal, tree huggin’, latte sippin’, New York Times a readin’, Current/MSNBC ‘tv’ a watchin’, bike ridin’, dirty, hippy scumbags are all up in arms now, ’cause the carbon levels are a goin’ up, but da temperatures ‘ain’t a goin’ down…”.  Really former vice chairman of GM?  What effing planet do you hail from?  Have you let MIB know of your visit?  Have you been living under a rock from say 2000-2010?   The hottest recorded temperatures ever recorded on planet earth since, I don’t know, since the existence of effing ICE!  Where, if you had any fancy book learnin’ (please note HBO’s new film, via some fine MSNBC correspondents, “Game Change”, coming out this Thursday!), you would know that scientists can actually sea back in time, and calculate just when the earth’s temperatures rose and consider the reasons why they did.   They have all concluded one rather obvious FACT, the earth’s temperatures are rising DUE to mankind’s activities, activities that, if left unabated, will spell doom for future generations, as crops will not grow, seas will rise, and the ‘North Pole’ will be no more…  Have a nice day folks and keep those folks in the Midwest and South, who were devastated by those 79 tornadoes, in your thoughts and prayers, it is no joke and any good thought will do. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
