A noble Whaler…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 2:28 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the wonderfully breezy, grey, gracious, grandeur laden island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Twentieth Day of May, 2018; broadcasting LIVE on a quiet Sunday afternoon from the sacred shores of Craigville Beach in historic, lovely, quaint Centerville…

On Thursday evening, the normally very funny ACK.FM radio disk jockey extraordinaire James Everett broke some sad news about a noble Whaler who passed away, beloved Nantucket Whaler coach Vito Capizzo. This legendary high school coach, after over 45 seasons, built that program into state power, eventually becoming the school’s athletic director, creating a strong community bond on the island that was in it’s sixth decade…

Capizzo, who won three state football championships and was a friend of New England Patriot’s head coach and Nantucket summer resident Bill Belichick, died at the age of 79 in a Boston area hospital.

Scott Capizzo, Vito’s son, who played for his Dad from 1983 to 1986, stated, “…he gave his life to the school and the program.”

Adding, “…had a gift, he could take kids from all walks of life, and on the field, they played as one.  He stood by them through thick and thin.  The outpouring of love and support has been incredible;

the community is amazing in times like these.”

A noble whaler indeed…

God’s speed coach Capizzo,

God’s speed!
