Sterling Silver

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:58 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the rather down right cold, misty, soon to be drenched island of Nantucket! Yes, on this very raw 29th day of April, 2014 a chilly, rainy Tuesday on Cape, we all offer a prayer of thanks that this whole “race” thing has been put to bed.  Finally we have rid ourselves of that one racist pig who has turned his nose up at African-Americans, Latinos, Asians, families, dogs, cats, horses, positive attitudes and anyone who watches MSNBC.  Let’s string him up and talk about it some more, while the policies in Washington D.C., regarding the ever growing GRAND CANYON gap between the richest and the poorest continues to widen.  Take our friend Donald Sterling, who bought the Los Angeles Clippers 30 years ago for a mere what was it, 15 million or so, when today it could be sold for 700 at least…see what I mean?  This is no accident, for this disparity began with the Reagan ‘trickle down’ voodoo economics in 1980, all part of A. Rand like philosophy.  Therefore, those with money, have seen their ‘income’ go up by 278 percent in these past three and a half decades, while the bottom 90 percent have seen their wages remain stagnant or indeed fall when adjusted for inflation and thus, we have witnessed the dying of the middle class, a huge swath, like the tornadoes that are ripping up our country right now, replaced with a new working poor, a growing group that is now living pay check to pay check– working jobs that don’t pay a living wage, barely surviving, some would say subjected to a life that is just above being owned by another human being.  Like the owner of that NBA basketball team, the mentality of a plantation owner comes to mind.  I heard someone say it yesterday–before the announcement today that Commissioner Adam Silver handed down at around three. a move that has banned Sterling from ever setting foot on the floor of the STAPLES center, fining him 2.5 million and by 22 teams out of 30 siding with Silver, forcing him to sell the franchise–yes, before that historic press conference, I heard a prominent black pundit speak to that mentality, one where Sterling may think he owns his players, players ‘he feeds, buys houses for, cars for, does anyone else give it to them?’, players who play for him and he alone.

Much like Shakespeare’s King Lear, the insanity of this type of mentality is not limited to our racist friend here–who one should pray for because it will set you free, believe me–but to the policies invoked by the majority of corporate America today, policies that insure to keep a ‘thrifty working class’, undereducated, “encouraged” not to vote, and looked down upon as if ‘they’ are any less than ‘thee’. Think about it for a minute.  If we had the men and women in office who actually gave a damn about the Constitution, they would see our Fore Fathers warned us of the concentration of too much wealth with too few people, so much so that it could threaten the very democracy ALL had fought so bravely to gain only a few moons ago, July 4th, 1776, the day this fledgling democracy was born, a glorious day when they gained independence from a tyrannical King in England.  Well, that IS what’s happening and, like GLOBAL WARMING, if WE, collectively don’t WAKE UP soon, both the nation and environment will be so altered, that one would be hard pressed to remember what it used to look, smell, taste, feel and sound like.  A nation that is not always fighting with itself, like a crazy person, realizing that we are all one and we must find a path forward, or we will turn into a joke, much like this witch hunt of an old, racist billionaire.  Trying to change him is not worth your time, changing our U.S. policies that benefit the majority of PEOPLE in this country IS! Have a nice evening everybody and we’ll SEA you here tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Blazin’ Saddles!

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:31 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the clear, cool, once again star lit island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this 25th day of April, 2014, a beautiful day and evening now, was once again had on this fair sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age.  Of course, if you are in the ranching business down in the great state of Nevada, you may be scratching your head right about now, ‘wondering’ what the bleep ‘ole Cliven Bundy is up to now.  Don’t phone Sean Hannity for any more answers though, even though Mr. Bundy kind of sadly thinks they’re pals.  See it seems the right wing can take just about any amount of hypocrisy regarding this rancher who has bypassed the Bureau of Land Management for 20 years now, owing over a million bucks to the federal government.  Sure you remember, as you probably already know by now, a few days back those feds tried to round up the 500 cows or so, only to be greeted by a slew of men and women who looked as if they had just left a dirty meth lab, leaving the cooking to “the FAM” back home.  Hopping in their trusty red mobiles from God knows where, aiming for more important things like fighting that tyrannical government that is always infringin’ on our God Damn rights, ’cause we all know that “negro” would be more happy as a slave, you know, I’m just wondering?  Barbara?

Thanks for that Mr. Bundy, it’s almost time to watch Dallas reruns, don’t you worry your little head. Now though, don’t you got some work to do?  You know, “I want you to round up the worst slime in the world–I want murderers, marauders, bank robbers, roughians, ganstas, pimps, hoes, crack heads, meth heads, crazies, zanies, mad caps, kooks, creeps, crawlies, critters, well, you get the point sir (credit some of this dribble to the classic film “Blazing Saddles!”, circa 1974, one of Mel Brooks greatest comic masterpieces, especially the character that could be played by really any tea party backer like say, David Koch?, just “wondering”).

The way to battle the morons that make up much of the now insane republican party is this, put up a toll booth in the middle of the desert, for the leader will invariably scream out to the clan of gun toting idiots, high as lab rats on meth or FOX “NEWS” Kook, I mean Kool Aid, “Don’t just stand there, go back and get a shit load of dimes!” (“Blazing Saddles” once again, and the late, great Slim Pickens, may he rest in peace).  The toll booth of course will come in many forms, the largest and most important will be GLOBAL WARMING and the exposure of human beings, well for a lack of a better word, being exposed even as I write these words.  Haven’t you ever wondered why so many strange things are going on world wide?  It is a fairly well known fact that everyone is being exposed for who and what they really ARE.  As the last ice sheet melts into the sea, these petty little scrapes by foolish men will mean very little to the generations that have to pick up the mess.

The black sheriff of Rock Ridge, played like a maestro by Cleavon Little, (“Blazing Saddles” for the third time) won the day–”Don’t make a move or I’ll blow his brains out!” (sheriff “Bart” holding gun to own head with a stunned and stupid crowd looking on in horror, with one blurting out, “…OK everybody calm down, I think he’s crazy enough he might just do it!”)–with the help of the ‘Waco Kid”, played brilliantly by the great Gene Wilder. In the end, that is what will happen, has to happen.  The coming November election, another pivotal one for the country, may just need to add some fiber to it’s diet, oh no, not the crazy Phillips lady, no, I was thinking about beans, ’cause the horrible gas that inevitably follows compliments the noise and smell out the other end in Washington D.C. these days, at least from the “Headly Lamar” (credit the late, great Harvey Korman) types on the ‘other side of sanity’, the ‘right’ side of the aisle as they mutter to themselves like poor “Mongo” on that brilliant satire of what we are seeing today, “Mongo only pawn in game of life…”.  Have a great week end folks, hopefully catching the Vatican this Sunday, you may be pleasantly surprised at what you SEA!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Earth’s Day

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:01 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the clear, cool, star lit island of Nantucket!  Oh Earth, may you breathe a bit today, perchance to heal, I pray thee… For yes. it is that time of year again, EARTH DAY 2014, the 22nd day of April of that same year and for most, it is just another Tuesday evening with a flickering thought perhaps of this planet that we all share and most certainly take for granted.  Most of the time, we use it as a open sewer, while we all collectively allow giant monstrosities called global corporate interests to run rough shod over an extremely fragile, interconnected and beautiful planet the human experience enjoys for only a brief instant; hopefully taking enough time to stop and literally smell the roses.  Have you ever looked out at the ocean without thought of past or future?  Losing oneself in that wilderness is the ticket to striking the natural balance one needs to stay in top condition–mentally, spiritually and physically.  When that occurs, the natural states of joy, love, enthusiasm, and general contentment culminate in that ultimate goal of happiness, something this nation, the U.S., obsesses and prides itself upon. One of our Founding Father’s Thomas Jefferson put that memorable quote in writing so many moons ago, a pursuit well worth undertaking.  Where else can that happen but in an environment that is not spoiled beyond repair?

Take our rivers, our creeks, our streams, our bays, our estuaries, our marshes, our rainforests, our ponds, our lakes, our fiords, our seas, our oceans, dear friends, take a good look at those oceans right now, all of our bodies of water.  For if something is not done about the constant pollution problems inherit within the activities of the beyond international law, the oil, gas and coal companies, something radical to curb their appetite for more and more and more, those aforementioned bodies will be in dyer peril, perhaps fatally.  It will be at that moment mankind will realize that LIFE cannot ‘live’ without water.  Water will, in the not too distant future, be worth more than gold. There is no doubt in my mind, or any real credible, not bought, scientists’ mind, that the earth cannot take much more of the constant barrage of carbon thrown up into the atmosphere without catastrophic consequences sooner rather than later.  What FOX “News” won’t tell you is that (the time for trying to convince these idiots of anything is OVER!) even if the most modest melting figures are correct, the seas will rise by four feet by 2100.  But the earth’s ice caps and glaciers combined equal 90 meters of overall depth, and if all of that were to melt, as it is already, exponentially melting I might add, well, you do the math.  The dying of the oceans however will come from the acidity buildup that carbon and ocean warming by the sun produces.  You can already SEA the effects on the beautiful coral reefs in ocean all over the map.  Overfishing is also a factor, as well as the massive pollution that, like the bp Gulf crime, is creating dead zones that kill off the most basic components of the food chain, no oxygen, working it’s way up to, you guessed it, man.

Jane Goodall, a right Brit lady who just turned eighty and is famous for her work with Chimpanzees in the beginning,1960 Africa, is a great steward and educator of the nature all around us.  She should, above all others, be considered deeply… Now she is the UN Ambassador for peace, among her countless other accolades, titles, degrees and books.  A busy woman who flies around the world 300 days a year working her environmental magic in countries world wide, found the time to write another must read entitled, “Seeds of Hope”.  This inspirational work is a book about plants, offering a ray of sunlight into a bleak outlook for our wonderful world mankind has decided to take a giant dump on.  All for profit. Pity that.  In the end, this can all be  summed up in a line from the classic film “Midnight Run” (a point made so obvious to anyone with a HEART, circa 1988, starring the incomparable Robert DeNiro and his costar Charles Grodin), remembering this whole fight over the planet’s future remains all about the money… “…hope it’s a wonderful coffee shop Jack.”

‘We Run Together’

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:54 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again beautifully sunny, blue skied, cool and calm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Monday, the 21st day of April, 2014, “Patriot’s Day” here in Massachusetts, a state holiday for most, as we all get ready to witness the running of the 118th Boston Marathon–the elite runners scheduled to take off in an hour from now, starting 26.2 miles west of the finish line in the back bay of the town I used to call home.  Working on the 37th floor of the gorgeous John Hancock Tower, the major sponsor for the oldest and most prestigious marathon in the world, I have enjoyed this event very much.  Like the Olympics, it brings athletes and tourists from all over the globe, celebrating by overcoming the challenge of a brutal race, culminating in the traditional Red Sox game around 1 p.m., the race over for the winner, but just beginning for most like me who run a 10 minute mile.

Of course the race was marred by the bombings last year, but that has only made Boston Strong stronger,  7,000 more runners participating today, a total of 36,000 strong!  With mild, sunny, weather–little to no wind, 0 % chance of rain (or snow)–it should be a fun day for all to enjoy and for some, heal. No where in the country is the message of unity more evident than in Boston.  Of course, this is where it all started, 240 plus years ago, when Paul Revere rode through the gas lit town on a steed warning “…the British are coming, the British are coming!” Boston IS the heart and soul of this nation, a city that wears it’s heart on it’s sleeve, stating quite clearly that you can knock us down, but we will get up and become stronger than we were before.  I pray it’s a good race, without incident, and everyone involved has a good time.  That’s what it’s all about.  Have a great day and week ahead folks, remembering that we truly all do ‘run together’ and we are all Boston Strong.

Easter blessings~seacapecod.net

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:54 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, calm, mild and intoxicating island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Sunday morning, the twentieth day of April, 2014, Easter Sunday, and my blessings to you and yours on this beautiful day here in Hyannis/Hyannis Port. There are so many reasons to celebrate this day, none so much for Christians around the world than the deep belief that the man who walked this earth 2014 years ago, a man who was crucified for his TRUTH, rose from the dead just as he stated he would…  Jesus was that man that billions truly believe is the Messiah and will return once again, reflected in Rome a few hours ago, with Pope Francis speaking to the masses, celebrating the hope and promise of that eternal Life.

So many are suffering in the world and country on this day, and we all know who they are.  It seems Jesus’ words are only applicable when they are convenient and good for the bottom line, no?  But those who give are those who truly receive, and the gift of LOVE is the greatest gift we have to offer.  For Love is divine in it’s nature and can be bestowed in so many different ways.  The Law of Giving states, “The universe operates through dynamic exchange…giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe.  And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.”  Deepak Chopra once again.  I will leave you this gorgeous morn’ on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age with a short poem of sorts by Rabindranath Tagore Gitanjali, reminding us all the power of higher intelligence and all of the very real forces that shape this world we all share, hopefully in love and peace.  My deepest prayers for comfort go out today to those poor families in South Korea, who are mourning the loss of at least 50 young students, 250 still missing, lost in a ferry accident only a few days ago…may they find some solace on this Easter and know that the Love of God is with them, even though it does not seem so presently…

This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again, and fillest it ever with fresh life.  This little flute of a reed thou hast carried over hills and dales, and hast breathed through it melodies eternally new…

Thy infinite gifts come to me only on those very small hands of mine.  Ages pass, and still thou pourest, and still there is room to fill.

Good Friday…evening.

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:33 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautifully star lit, solemn, cool and completely clear, island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Good Friday evening, the eighteenth day of April, 2014, and on a perfectly peaceful night at the seven p.m. hour on the east coast, I pray you and yours are well fed, safe, feet up, and watching the telly once again with the ones you love.  For on this night some two thousand years ago, a poor man from Jerusalem was crucified on a tree, like many in that day and age of the brutal Roman Empire.  But for some odd reason, this one man is perhaps the most famous ‘human being’ to ever have lived, even though on that day he died mostly alone, after he was mocked and beaten, a tortuous day filled with a barbaric form of the death–crucifixion.  And while poor as the man on his left and on his right, a moment frozen in time, this one man is remembered and quoted more than anyone in this short history of mankind.  One man who is still admired beyond a shadow of a doubt by just about anyone you might meet in your travels across this amazing world we live in two thousand plus years later, one man who is worshiped by BILLIONS of followers in the many Christian faiths. One man so loved, feared, used, misunderstood, misquoted, manipulated, beaten up verbally (as if he cares one way or the other who you love, only that you do), yes, the man whose name has invoked so many wars waged in ‘his name’, all starting with the war of him and his claim that he is truly the Son of man, or the Son of God and his crucifixion by the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate to be specific, who was forced into this by Jesus’ own people, rather the ruling religious body in Israel at the time, the Sanhedrin, who would rather have freed murderer than free a man who claimed the ultimate “blasphemy”, his claim and what many today around the world for thousands of years now believe to be true…that he and he alone is the Son of Man, the Messiah, the great “I AM”.  The one who may just eventually come back and kick some a$$.  Starting with those who use his name is vain, or more to the point, for their OWN greedy ends, while the majority of folks around the world suffer needlessly.  All for those “bits of gold” that he was betrayed for so many moons ago…

Christ died, was buried and, according to the witness of the New Testament, rose again and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again in Glory to judge the living and the dead, and his Kingdom will have no end.”  And as the story goes, deliberately put himself on that cross to absolve man of his sins.  His brief 33 years on this planet are mostly told through the Holy Scriptures.  Gospels found in the Holy Bible, taken from only four Apostles (true followers, by actions), I believe they are Mark, Mathew, Luke and Paul, or is it Peter? CCD was a long time ago my friends, my apologies to the choir, anyway, these stories of Jesus and his work with the masses during his life, such as Miracles, mostly speak to his love for the poor.  He spoke of charity, stating, “If a man asks you for your cloak, offer him your tunic as well.”  He stated that the poor will be blessed with a divine richness of spirit;  Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth… Blessed are the oppressed, for they shall find JUSTICE…  Blessed are the weak in spirit, for their’s IS the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. Jesus spoke of caring for those less fortunate than thee, to care for those who are being persecuted, he spoke of the FACT that it is easier to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter into that KINGDOM.  Needle is defined, literally, back ‘in the day’ as a narrow passage way that were common in giant tombs and other intricate inner chambers, most so narrow that only a thin Egyptian might fit through, certainly not a large middle eastern camel.  Those who can pass on through are those who are not attached to physical, those unencumbered with the weight that we in the United States and most places in this ever increasing corporate world of STUFF lug about, an economy based on that notion we carry daily, most of the time not even knowing that we ARE.  Jesus was a good man who, regardless of whether or not you believe he was the real son of God, as we understand it, matters little.  People a whole lot more important than me can tell you what they think.  Just Google it! What matters is, if you like his style, WALK his word.  Hypocrites need not apply, although absolved nonetheless.  Jesus also spoke of forgiveness, forgiving thine enemies.  Have you ever prayed for yours?

I believe Albert Einstein put it best when he said, “…the best life is a life in the service of another.” Jesus had that down to the point it could not be missed.  So on this sad and solemn day of reflection and deep thought, please accept this offering from a passage from Deepak Chopra’s “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.” And to those who have graced my life by reading this simple little blog from little old seacapecod.net, I send you my blessings and prayer for a more Just and Peaceful world, where some homeless man on the street may just turn out to be what the world has been waiting for all this ‘time’.

(page 111)  “…We are travelers on a cosmic journey~stardust swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity.   Life is eternal. But the expressions of life are ephemeral, momentary, transient.  Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, once said, The existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds.  To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance.  A lifetime is like a flash of lightening in the sky, Rushing by like a torrent down a steep mountain. “We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share.  This is a precious moment, but it is transient.  It is a little parenthesis in eternity.  If we share with caring, lightheartedness, and love, we will create abundance and love for each other.  And then this moment will have been worthwhile.”

Or not.  And here’s Tom with the weather! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Holy Thursday! Good Evening…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:44 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the crisp, clean, clear and cool, star filled skied island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Thursday evening, the sun just beginning to set, the 17th day of April, 2014, a rather chilly evening out there tonight and thus, I pray you and yours are warm and cozy watching the telly.  However, I also hope that it is not some mind numbing “news” (propaganda for the 1 percent) outlet such as our old pals at FOX, for if you are, I can imagine some of those side effects I have been warning you about–dizziness, nausea, vomiting, delusions of grandeur, cramps, bursts of anger, followed by even more violent outbursts combined with a goofy and sudden lust for gun ownership, complete with lots of them assault rifles/rocket launchers/grenades/long guns/Glocks with high capacity clips and a membership to the Bundy cow farm out in Vegas, yee haw mo fo!–may have already eased on into fruition.  Bummer, but don’t say we didn’t warn ya!  Far be it from me, hear at little old seacapecod.net, emphasis on the word and little compared to the watts over at Rupert Murdoch/Roger Ailes hog wash factory of yapping idiots, to lecture ‘ya’ll’ on the errors of your ways…  See for yourself! You know what dummies?  You can GOOGLE FACTS!

I have compiled an interview with one of the hosts over at that wonderful station that I taped just a few minutes ago.  SEA-ing that we are LIVE, I thought I would just go ahead and type in the actual audio.  Please note viewer discretion advised, as some of the words are rather racy and mean spirited.  And, at one juncture, I kind of go off on the “tiny minded wiper of other people’s bottom’s…” (credit Monty Python’s Flying Circus classic film, circa 1975 “…and The Holy Grail”); so here goes nothin’… please, have a wonderful evening ‘and a pleasant tomorrow’ (credit SNL’s great Jane Curtain).

“Good Evening ‘Jack’, it is so good of you to come on to seacapecod.net“.

“No problem, I have heard really great things” …  “Really?”… “No, not really, hey, are we going to talk about the fact we should be giving a parade for the real tax payers in this country?  ‘Dats right, ‘da one percent, God dammit, they are the ones’ paying the bills, capiche?”

“Capiche?  Your name is Sean Hannity!  You’re a mick just like me!   Listen, I know you are all ‘tied’ up, you like that?  Cowboy horse humor at it’s best, hey now! Anyway, I know your boys want a fight down at the OK Coral, but first, riddle me this Batman (Hannity is more like a Robin don’t ya think?), how are your tea party puppets posing as politicians gonna run on the ‘failure’ of Obamacare when it was just announced that 8.1 million Americans have signed up for coverage?  Moreover, the percentage of young folks (balancing the whole thing, keeping premiums down as designed, thus, most major insurance carriers are predicting that premiums will go up only by, at the most, 7 percent, much lower than it’s detractors have predicted) is just under the goal of 38 percent, standing at 35 now and only going UP. Just like the number of people that will be enrolled by 2017, over 24 million!  How are those numbers going to help out your cause in the Senate come November?  Come on Sean, what’s with the long face!  I did it again, another horse joke!  You know this is the year of the horse and you guys bet on the wrong one, for history will prove that so plainly that even you will not be able to deny it.  Sean, you guys made your bed and now you are going to have to sleep in it, bud bugs and all.  At least you will be covered when you lose your “job” for telling so many Pinocchio sized whoppers!  (of course you won’t lose your job, your ignorance peddling is the best on television, top notch Kool Aid, top notch!)  I know it is not your fault that your IQ is low and that you were dropped on your head as a young child.  But Google some facts man and get a grip!  This planet is melting right under your feet and before you (fingers crossed) leave New York as you promised to do, by golly, you have to stop by my place and have a few laughs.  You are so out there it makes the sad little hater Beck look kind of pitiful–that’s how far down the scale I think you are.  I am ashamed to call you an Irishman.  I truly believe you missed your calling (selling women’s shoes more your style), because ‘journalist’ is not really your bag, all those pesky FACTS constantly getting way…really sir, how you landed on TV is a mystery, for God knows you really are quite dim.  You are wrong about climate change or GLOBAL WARMING, you are deadly wrong about your stance on anything moral or right (”right” as once again opposed to WRONG) regarding the way we treat one another in a world we are all share for only a blip of ‘time’.  And the worst part about this whole thing is that you use the Stockholm syndrome (please Google, yes, even you Hannity!) to blatantly hurt people with your poisonous talking points that are handed to you from some power hungry billionaires whose only goal is to ’shrink the U.S. government down to the size where one could drown it in a bathtub’ (credit right wing tax cut henchman Grover Norquist) so that this ‘land of the free and home of the brave’ bullshit can FINALLY become what “the free market” wants it to be–a bloody Oligarchy, run by those plutocrats (like the KOCH BROTHERS spending 500 million in the past decade, along with ExxonMobil, to deceive the American public as to their polluting ways, i.e., FRACKING the deadly 596  chemicals seeping into drinking water from sea to shining sea, while polluting the air, around the fracking wells, looking like cancer cells sprawled out endlessly, degrading and destroying this beautiful land we all love so…) who WILL finally destroy that water, that air and our way of life, you know our one man, or one woman equaling one vote.  Democracy with that small case letter d (definition?  Everyone has an equal voice in how WE run the country), full of common sense and love.  This democracy will be fatally altered forever, yes this experiment, divinely inspired–namely “The United States of America”, created by great men steeped in a common sense democratic vision,  ironically fighting a tyrannical King George in England, almost 240 years ago, will bend to the Almighty dollar and be destroyed if we don’t wake soon.  It will vanish into the digital memory of our history, like the American Indian, a history that many will not read about because those books, like in China, will be banned.”

Game On

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:43 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, gorgeous, breezy, soon to be starry island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Friday evening, the 11th day of April, 2014, roughly 5:43 p.m., eastern standard, and the season of spring has finally arrived here on little old Cape Cod, even in the historic town of Hyannis/Hyannis Port where I write these thoughts presently.  Yes, the ships are now coming in and out of the Harbor on a more frequent clip, while the good people of this fair seaside village mosey on down to “Baxter’s Fish and Chips”, a quaint little ‘boathouse’ bar on this safe haven, famously serving fish and chips for four generations now.  This popular opening today marks the passing of a brutal winter that was for many, and the welcoming of the springtime rays of hope and rebirth WE have ALL been waiting for, all happening so fast as the Crocus’ peek their heads out wondering, “…is it safe to come out now?”.

Indeed.  Is it safe to come out now?  This past week the United Nations held an ‘Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’, I am not so sure…  Old news of course in this day and age of short term attention span syndrome, but I thought it might be important to put it down in black and white so our kids and grand kids can read it someday and say, “…a real leader would come forward and make it their mission to turn this climate around before it’s too late, for it turned out, that fateful decision by say the elected president in the very near year of 2020…Yes, on that courageous decision’s back lies (not LIES told by greedy capitalists’ gone wild, hell bent on cooking the planet for PROFIT!) the saving of the human race happened, thus, generations in the future will somehow be avoiding the stronger and stronger storms, the rising of the seas, the burning of the forests, the deepening of deadly droughts, the dying of the oceans, the echoes of species passing us by right now–the end of mankind…period.  For no being will survive if those oceans die.  “Water=LIFE! The young people will sing someday, I pray it be so…

Too real?  Too heavy for a Friday night?  Yeah, you are right.  Let’s go to the video tape!  That little meeting that got a wink and nod from the mainstream media for a day or so (my friends at MSNBC excluded of course) at the UN hosted 300 of the world’s top climatologists, from 70 countries, reviewing 12,000 peer revised studies on global warming (danger Will Rogers!), or the ‘kinder, gentler’ climate change.

Conclusion?  We, human beings in general, at least some of us, ARE the CAUSE. We, collectively, by the use and abuse of emitting millions upon millions of tons of carbon dioxide, methane and other ‘green house gasses’ into the atmosphere on a daily basis is causing the atmosphere to warm, as well as the oceans, as they become more and more acidic, eventually not being habitable for living creatures.  From Los Angeles to Beijing, Montreal to Moscow and everywhere in between it is like a race to the bottom, burning more and more fossil fuels resulting in the findings that spell doom for the planet if we do not curb our appetite for the stuff.  It’s simple math.  The ice sheets are melting at the alarming speeds and will result in the seas rising at least four feet by the end of the century and that, my friends, is being very conservative.  The seas have already risen by one foot starting at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution on or about the turn of the 19th century.  The reason the ice does not lie is simple, every winter has been recorded on that ancient ice, telling us what we need to know.  What that ice is telling us is simple, the steady increase of carbon output into said atmosphere is directly linked to the increase in the air and water temperatures (greenhouse effect), and everything else that is connected to that FACT (life itself).

“Climate Cataclysm” is the ‘talking point’ phrase that was used by most of the 97 percent of scientists coming out of that meeting roughly ten days ago or so (real men and women of high reason/logic/intelligence– that’s right, real scientists who studied at the best universities and colleges around the world.  Yes, thoughtful people, with no angle, who study big, scary books like “Climatology for Dummies” or “Meteorology for Morons”, or “Physics for Tea Party Psychopaths 101″, great reads that most republican politicians would not like because there are no pictures available in many of the text books.  I can assure you Mr. Cruz or Mr. Limbaugh you would not be disappointed if you suddenly became a sane, kind and reasonable adult.  Come on, take a break, you don’t have to be a prick everyday of your life now do you?

However, I am sure your friend Charles or David Koch can provide you with one of their “biostitutes”, bought ‘men of science’ who make up the other 3 percent of QUACKS who are being paid to LIE about the very real problem that IS the biggest THREAT to mankind in OUR civilized history, with the panel concluding, “…failure to address this issue is the gravest threat to human rights, national security and civilization at large.”  These men exist so that you (Ted Cruz or Rand Paul or take your pick of the tea party litter) can continue to tell the people your outright falsehoods and pretend that there is a ‘debate’ about this, this all while you sell out those “American People” you say you are on the side of as you secretly pull the p lough for your masters who pay you those bits of GOLD you must have sold your soul for.

That western Mega drought that is taking over the conversation in California and many other states in this country will eventually point most to the truth that is out there.  It is right outside of your window, please open it and your minds up and wake up your neighbors and loved ones and remember to VOTE this fall, for the republican agenda is to take over the Senate and then the Executive, and then the country’s definition.  By the Supreme Court’s most recent fatal decision, the McCutcheon v. FEC tells one all one needs to know about the John Robert’s SCOTUS.  A once and will be again proud court, the highest in the land, one who stood the test of time, such as the bloody U.S. Civil War, is not what it once was.  It once championed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, signed into LAW 50 years ago this summer. That historic legislation passed with power and grit by a real leader, yes, passed by our late, great 36th President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson, celebrating that most sacred of human acknowledgements of our young nation’s history–symbolized none so much as the election of this country’s first black President, Barack Obama, who has, by all definition that matters, done a STELLAR JOB.  Better than any clown on the right, for if the shoes were on the other foot, I wonder what kind of man like say a California Congressman Darrell Issa might have turned out to be…

If this nation is not to go backwards in history, as the President pointed out the other day at that 50 year anniversary event, WE must collectively stand up to the money that is slowly killing OUR democracy.  The best and worst example of this atrocity are the KOCH BROTHERS, who, together, are worth at least 68 billion dollars and are very interested in taking over this country and turning it into an Oligarchy–definition: rule by the wealthy. There was an old joke here in Boston before the city’s beloved Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, breaking that 86 year old curse that hung around the Fenway Park’s hallowed halls–”…when was the last time the Sox won the Series?” “…the year was 1918, the year the rich Russian Czars were conquered by the then Soviet Union”, begging the question in 2014, have Russian Oligarchs come back from the dead and have they already invaded the U.S. political system, posing as gentle plutocrats who own a mom and pop oil, gas and chemical company?

“This isn’t Russia Danny, is this Russia?” (credit the classic film, “Caddyshack”, written by the late, great Harold Ramis and starring the incredible Bill Murray, the late, greats Ted Knight & Rodney Dangerfield, and the still very much living and funny, Chevy Chase…circa 1980).   Comrade Koch?  Or is it King Koch?  Don’t believe me?  Follow the money!  Why would an oil and gas company that these two slick guys inherited from their father–Koch Industries (please Google)–want to take over the country?  Make more money and rule without interference is the answer, perhaps take over the world someday too, why not?  500 million bucks have been spent this past decade to deceive the U.S. public with these horrible ‘free market think tanks’ (Americans for Prosperity, Heritage Action among a myriad of others polluting figuratively and literally millions of Americans daily without them even knowing it) paving the way to lock in gerrymandered power in a highly organized system that intends to gut the poor like a fish and leave the country a barren waste land of fracking wells leaking 596 deadly chemicals destroying the waters forever, while the world gets hotter and hotter, hungrier and hungrier.  Lo, this is not joke.  WAKE UP AMERICA! Please for the Love of God–for the Koch puppet, congressman Paul Ryan’s republican’s 2015 budget, the “pathway to democracy’s destruction” I mean “prosperity”, will insure record corporate profits for the next hundred years–the ideology of true socialism for the rich and savage austerity to the poor. “Kochtopia”!!! (sounds like a fun place! credit the name to the great Senate Majority leader Harry Reid, a democrat from Searchlight, Nevada, God’s speed sir, God’s speed!).

The scariest part of this is that decision made by an increasingly suspect U.S. Supreme Court that seems to be, like the U.S. House of Representatives, bought for the most part, not all, but enough to keep that body dysfunctional at best, a complete waste of time at worst.  Let’s again, go to the video tape. Justice Stephen G. Breyer stated after the decision was handed down, “…If the court in Citizens United opened the door (money equals speech, corporations are people too, dag nabbit!), today’s decision (McCutcheon v. Federal Election Committee) open the flood gate.”  He went on to say, “…where enough money calls the tune, the general public will not be heard.  What does this have to do with corruption?  It has everything to do with corruption.  Corruption breaks the Constitutionally necessary “chain of communication” between the people and their representatives.  It derails the essential ’speech to government action’ tie. A cynical public can lose interest in political participation altogether. (This is what David and Charles Koch, and many like them, WANT). “Insofar as corruption cuts the link between political thought and political action, a free marketplace of political ideas loses it’s point.” U.S. Supreme Court Justice Breyer (not a bought man).

An Inuit chief up in Greenland spoke out to NBC’s Anne Curry, heading up a nice documentary about this critical man made problem that could wipe us out as a species sooner than we might think, “…Look out the window…and see how beautiful the nature is…, look at it!  Hear it!  Protect it!  Take good care of it!” Good words to live by, for even a decade from right now, I can assure you the big polluters out there are going to have their day in court, the court of public opinion, WORLD WIDE, because a few wealthy individuals will not destroy GOD’S GREEN EARTH for their bloody benefit, while the many melt, burn, starve or drown.  Mark my words–GOOD will prevail over darkness. Have a nice week end folks and steer clear of foolish wooden nickles thrown about by FOX “NEWS”, they are the problem, nowhere near the solution. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

7.1 Million

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:47 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, mild, calm and pristine island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you and yours on this second day of April, 2014, a beautiful morning here on little old Cape Cod, with spring most certainly in the air.  Yesterday at the White House Rose Garden, President Barack Obama gave a speech announcing the results of the hard fought Affordable Care Act of 2010, many know today as “Obamacare” (a term that strikes either fancy or  elevated blood pressure, depending upon what side of the political fence you are on), as Monday marked the end of the ‘open enrollment period’ (March 31) for this pivotal year.  The number the CBO (congressional budget office) predicted for this LAW to be effective (to work) was 7 million, and with the snafu of the roll out, namely the botched website and lack of salesmanship by governors around the U.S., back in October of 2013, it was a real question of whether or not this thing would take off at all.

However, as the President remarked amongst the flowering roses, 7.1 million Americans have signed up for coverage, many gaining health coverage for the first time, elevating this moment to be one for the history books. For it has been seven decades of effort by former U.S. Presidents and other leaders, such as the great Senator Teddy Kennedy “The Last Lion of the Senate” (D) from this great state of Massachusetts, to reach this plateau–Affordable Health Care for all, a most sacred of human rights, a right that will not only make this nation stronger economically and physically, but will bring it together even more as 24 million sign up by 2017.

Of course, the right wing slime machine is hard at work telling the country that “Obama CARE(s)” is an evil, socialistic Kenyan plot to take away your freedom, guns, wives, daughters, Cheetos (hi Morning Joe!) and did I mention freedom?  None of the predictions on FOX “News” were accurate, in fact, they were all WRONG, as usual.  So today, on this second day of April, celebrate this leader of OURS, for many decades from now, he, Barack Obama, will go down as one of the best Presidents we have ever had in this fair land called America, for it was not a popular (still is not in many states) notion, health care, (unless it makes money for Wall Street), yet the President forged ahead anyway, with a cool head, and won the fight in the end.  Who knows how that will affect the balance of the Senate this year?  But it will not matter, because now that Americans have a taste of what good health insurance looks and smells like, they will not go back to the old status quo of the insurance companies posing as health care providers.

Have a great day and a special double congratulations to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, host of “All In, with Chris Hayes”, airing every weeknight at eight p.m. eastern, only on the highly fact based network known as that damn liberal MSNBC! For Chris is a new father and his show is one year old (yesterday) today–no April fool there!  Good Luck to you all and keep up the good fight, and we here at seacapecod.net will do the same.  So come on down and visit this summer, we will, as always, ‘leave the LIGHT on for ya!’ PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
