Happy Thanksgiving from seacapecod.net!

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 11:18 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, brisk, beautiful still windy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Thanksgiving morning, the 28th day of November, 2013, a little after nine a.m. eastern standard, and it is a gorgeous one out there today, as the nation gets ready to enjoy some turkey, stuffing, yams, pumpkin pie and all the other ‘fixins while we take time to give thanks for all of the blessings that have been bestowed to each one of us, some more than others.  So, on this day, I thought I would join in as well, seeing that we did this as a family, my mom, dad, sister and little brother every year at our dinner table in either Connecticut, Colorado, California or the United Kingdom–always filled with plenty of food, yes, and we would take turns telling everyone what we were grateful for… I am grateful for many things, none so much as my life, my health, my home on the Cape, my fiance, her family, my family, my work, pro bono as it is, work as a writer on this little website I created seacapecod.net.  I am grateful for my book, “Taking Fog to Nantucket”, where I learned, or rather comprehended the word forgiveness.  I am grateful for my optimism, my faith, my sense of humor, all of the wonderful pundits out there in the world of journalism, who make watching and writing about politics and the environment at least tolerable… I am grateful for Saturday Night Live and comedians like Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Will Ferrell, not to mention Sarah Silverman and Tina Fey… I am grateful for FOX NEWS and Rush Limbaugh (experts in placing foot in mouth), for they bring me laughter and wisdom everyday, while thanking the Lord above I am not them; I am thankful for the Cardinal, the Greater Black Back gull, the Great Blue Heron; for every whale and dolphin, grateful for the opportunity to SEA these great creatures, like the Polar Bear, before they vanish from the planet due to mankind’s folly.  I am grateful for the vast oceans of the world, the mountains and the forests… I am grateful we are at peace, for the most part, on this little blue rock we all call ‘home’ for the moment.  I am grateful we have a new Pope, Francis, named after my personal favorite Saint, St. Francis of Assisi, a holy man that truly cares about the plight of the needy across the globe, calling out global conglomerates yesterday and the damaging disparity between the haves and the have nots– calling on those corporations to see that blind idolatry will get you no where on the spiritual path we are all on, whether you know it or not, and that perhaps a few more CEO’s might take heed in what their Lord said in the book they all claim to follow, “…you will not worship false gods”, or better yet, “…what you do to the least of us, you do unto me,” as money and profit take priority over compassion and charity.  Mountains of monies trickling down to no one save the heirs of massive moguls.  I am grateful that the world seems to be shifting in favor of social justice and a more common consciousness, steeped in compassion and kindness rather than disdain and discard.  A world that is beginning to see that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…  In short, I am grateful that my soul is intact, that I can hold my head up high and not be afraid–for this is still a beautiful world and I shall continue to strive to be happy!  I wish that upon you and yours this Holiday season as well.  Enjoy the day and be safe out there amongst “the Fam” (credit Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss from the classic 1991 film, “What about Bob?”)–even though you may not get along with all of them, they still are, after all, your family, remembering that “happy people are grateful people, those who aren’t, aren’t.” PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! A Big Corporate Holiday Hug!

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:58 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the wind driven rain and rather balmy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the 27th day of November, 2013, the day before Thanksgiving, the busiest travel day of the year, the new, new black Friday, oh, too much?  Yes, welcome to your holiday rush, and if you are anywhere near Cape Cod right now, you are probably indoors, or wish you were.  Gazing out my sliding glass door onto the Harbor here in Hyannis/Hyannis Port, the rains have arrived in full force with wind gusts of 50 m.p.h., as the east coast battens down the hatches even though millions are trying to get to their destination for the day set aside for thanks and hopefully giving as well.  Just ask the republicans, they’ll tell ya!  Packing in as much news before the holiday as possible, the Supreme Court has taken on the personality disorder corporations, some corporations, are displaying once again, playing on the ‘corporate person hood’ issue that has been around for almost a century.  Following on the heels of the Citizens United ruling by said court in 2010 (which already established the now ‘fact’ that corporations have a right to free speech, just like an individual, and therefore can donate vast sums of money to candidates and their campaigns, drowning out competition merely by the AMOUNTS they can raise), the pre-oligarchical establishment wants to go a step farther now, claiming that corporations have a right to express their religious beliefs as well, diving once again into women’s health and their ability to manage their own bodies.  Take “Hobby Lobby” for example, a very apropos name for a corporation that employs 15,000 people or so.  Their position is that, like many on the right, not only is abortion an abomination that should be outlawed, but so too is contraception, and some of those practices amount to the same thing as an abortion.  Putting aside the FACT that 50 percent of women use contraceptive pills for medical purposes other than negating pregnancy, this new possible decision (another fatal decision for it is a very slippery slope with corporations possibly then crying out that their “religion”–other than money grubbing and worshiping at the alter of the almighty dollar–dictates that they disagree with the gay lifestyle of some of their employees and therefore have every right to fire them at will seeing that it does not reflect their “personal” corporate ethic and/or ethos) adopts policy whereby not only do they insert themselves as an effective gatekeeper between women and their doctors in very personal matters, legally now, but can also discriminate against those gays, Jewish people, black people, or people who have polka dots, play the banjo and I don’t know, like Neal Diamond music…in other words, when do rights of the corporation completely drown out the rights of it’s employees?  The question the Supreme Court must ask itself is this:  “…Should not the LAW of the land supersede some religious whim of a corporate entity, such as the contraception issue?  And should not that LAW cover the real life person employed by said corporation above and beyond the lifeless concept of a corporate charter, a charter that has no pulse or conscience, rather is dictated by the will of one or a few board members who can now get in between the employee and his or her own private doctor?  It is just insane and the Robert’s court should see it as such.  Food for thought on this wet and windy Wednesday.  Take it easy traveling out there and check in tomorrow here at seacapecod.net, who truly appreciate your tuning in.  Have a nice day and Thanksgiving! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

November Chill

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 1:37 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sun drenched, frozen, now calm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this November 25th, 2013, a Monday morning here on the east coast as the nation wakes up to Thanksgiving week and some rather nasty weather across the south, with that deep low pressure system taking aim at our shores soon; heavy rains expected for the busy holiday travel over the next few days.  Today the sun is out however and it is very, very cold, more like a January day, so the yo-yo pattern of our weather world wide continues… So do the politics.  On Friday it was announced U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry struck a tentative deal with Iran to eliminate enriched uranium needed to produce a nuclear bomb as well as daily inspections in exchange for the west’s easing of the crippling economic sanctions Iran has suffered through for the past decade or so.  The deal is limited in scope, extending out only six months, however, it brings US that much closer to a deal that would eliminate a nuclear threat from Iran, stabilizing the region and bringing the world closer to destroying all “weapons of mass destruction”.  Israel sees the deal as a mistake and so do many on the right “wingers” here in the U.S., but Kerry remains defiant, stating that this is a far better position to be in than doing nothing at all, leaving the Iranians more time to play with their centrifuges and enrich more uranium–getting that much closer to a weapon most of the world knows they should not possess.  We shall see what happens.  Of course, on the home front, the song remains the same, “defund Obamcare” and keep on obstructing at the detriment of our society as a whole.  But something happened this past 48 hours or so as well to perhaps change that up a bit.  Harry Reid, the majority leader in the U.S. Senate, hailing from the great state of Nevada, Searchlight, Nevada, elected to invoke the so called ‘nuclear option’, eliminating the filibuster (invoked roughly 168 times in our nation’s history, with 82 coming under the Obama Administration; originally used by the minority, now abused, in order to block bills and nominees, both judicial and executive) rule from the Senate, enraging republicans vowing revenge in the ‘next life’.  Now it only takes a majority on the floor and we shall see if this new rule makes it’s way down to ordinary bills that are meant to improve the American way of life for everyone, not just the chosen few, who, most of the time were not chosen at all, but were born into money and thus, it seems sworn to uphold.  I wonder what the word “Thanksgiving” means to a typical tea party republican?  Let’s take a gander into a random republican governor’s Thanksgiving day table as he bows his head and prays, “…dear little white baby Jesus, thank you for this food provided by ADM, supermarket to the world, as well as Monsanto, thank you for “fracking”, extolling natural gas via 596 deadly chemicals being poured into the earth in our state; even though it is poisoning the water and the air, giving people cancer, the money was just too good to pass up. Thank you for eliminating Planned Parenthood offices across the state, thank you for making global warming a big ‘ole hoax, as you steered that ‘twister away from my ranch.  Thank you for creating the tea party with all of it’s insanity and violent tendencies, it’s just what the doctor ordered for this no good, dead beat country of ours, with a bunch of those dead beats eating food and all from government handouts.  Thank you for the NRA and the plenitude of guns and ammo, not to mention all those violent video games the kids love so much.  And most of all I want to thank you for the gift of me not having a conscience and all, for my policies would be a little hard to swallow if I had one.  In your corporate name baby Jesus, Amen.”   Courtesy of Bill Maher, the great host of “Real Time, with Bill Maher”, only on HBO, I thought I would pass on some of his suggestions for the perfect reader on your Christmas list…such as Bill O’Reilly’s “Killing St. Nick”, Paula Deen’s “The Extremely White Christmas”, Chris Christie’s “12 Days of Thanksgiving”, the NSA’s “We See You When You Are Sleeping”, Mayor Rob Ford’s “Christmas is for sharing, so give me some of your crack”, Barack Obama’s “If you like your present, then you can keep your present”, Alec Baldwin’s “Merry Christmas, you c@ck sucking fa@got!, Holiday memories from a Long Island childhood”, John Boehner’s “The Little Drama Boy”, and George Zimmerman’s “There’s a suspicious person in my chimney.”  Have a great week folks and keep on praying for this country, for we should all be grateful that we still have some men and women in service who actually care about the BIG PICTURE, a picture that does not just involve the corporate bottom line as the Dow breaks another record…  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! The day time stood still…JFK

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sparkling blue skied and rather mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, the twenty-third day of November, 2013, the day after the 50th anniversary of this country’s most beloved public figure’s death, a leader that needs no introduction, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.  Yesterday did indeed mark that solemn day in Dallas where Kennedy was gunned down by an assassin’s bullet, a day so many moons ago and it was honored from coast to coast, as in right here, Jack’s old home of Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, where on Ocean Street in Hyannis proper, only a mile or two from the Kennedy compound, you will find nestled in with the scrub pines a memorial certainly worth your time.  As you can see walking up to the stone wall holding a plaque of our late President, the beautiful water fountain gracing Nantucket Sound with the Steamship Authority car ferry to Nantucket named “The Eagle” steaming on by only moments ago.  I find myself here sometimes, being my backyard and all, and the energy here is palpable, as if you can feel the intensity of the spirit that was Kennedy and how that spirit raised others to reach great heights, such as the moon, an army of peaceful warriors, the seed of Civil Rights and the courageous stand off of a possible nuclear annihilation, leading one to the conclusion that Kennedy is not dead, he can’t be if all of the wonderful people I have seen and heard over the airwaves during the past week or so still have him alive in their hearts and minds, bringing us, no, forcing US to realize our own potential as both individuals and as a nation, under God, indivisible with Liberty and Justice for ALL.  God’s speed John, God’s speed always! Hope Springs Eternal…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:26 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cold and cloudy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this somber Friday, the 22nd day of November, 2013, with the weather outside, looking out onto the Harbor Lighthouse, reflecting the mood of said day, for it was on this date fifty years ago that our 35th President of the United States of America was shot down in cold blood on the sunny streets of Dallas with tens of thousands looking on.  As the parade route that took the limousine carrying Kennedy and the First Lady, Jackie, down the street of the infamous book depository building, three shots rang out, with one missing the President and two finding their target.  Seconds after the assault, that limo sped away to the nearest hospital, with Jackie cradling part of Jack’s head in her lap. Many knew right then and there the awful fact that our beloved leader was no more, with CBS’ Walter Cronkite coming on live television confirming that fact as tears welled up in his eyes.  Jack Kennedy and the rest of that amazing family did, and still does, represent what is GREAT about America.  If it were not for the courage of this great man, perhaps most, if not all of US would not be here reading and writing about his life and death today.  Many will never know exactly how close we were to a nuclear war with our ‘enemy’ back then, the U.S.S.R., or Soviet Russia, during the Cuban Missile crisis of 1962, but according to that 13 day stand off with the Russians, “it was pretty tense”.  Many will never know the power that the “Peace Corp”, that was created by the JFK administration, had and has in this world of conflict and ever present war, but some do, both on the giving side and receiving side of the equation and will be better human beings for this life and the next.  Many will never know the man they saw sailing Nantucket Sound on TV, or riding a bike through the streets of Hyannis Port with his beautiful wife and his wonderful children, or just lounging around at his home in beautiful Hyannis Port here on Cape Cod, with the green, green grass overlooking the oceans depths; opening up the doors of “The Kennedy Compound” for any photographer to explore– bringing the new “television era” of Camelot right into our collective living rooms for the first time, yes bringing US ever closer to a man whose popularity poll sits, even fifty years hence, at a 75 percent approval rating.  If Jack Kennedy had not been shot on that fateful day fifty years ago, what could have been accomplished?  Perhaps the war in Vietnam would have ended much, much sooner.  Perhaps the Civil Rights issues of the day would have been more politely and humanly sorted out.  Perhaps we would have begun to take better care of our environment…  Perhaps.  As tragic and sad as Kennedy’s death was, his legacy and lore bring that much more joy and love into this writer’s heart.  I cannot help, as I bike to Squaw Island every day–just down the street from the Kennedy Compound here in Hyannis Port–a palpable good feeling as though the Spirit of Kennedy is in the air, a feeling of comfort and of peace, of renewal and the empirical fact that HOPE truly does spring eternal, and if one man could embody that word it was most certainly President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Like the tree you see blooming above you on this cold and stormy November morning, remember that of the great man, for even in death the greater Angels of our souls rise above and breathe new life into the ever present creation that is man.  Have a wonderful week end folks and may God Bless this great land! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

1.5 percent?

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, cool, crystal clear island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Thursday morning, the 21st of November, 2013, around 10 a.m., looking out onto Hyannis Harbor and the calmness of the waters, waters shimmering in gold as it reflects off of the bows of the many ships that call this harbor home all year round, taking in the seasons, one by one, with spring’s beautiful song of rebirth and growth, summer’s beckoning playful love and carefree attitude, fall’s reflection and turn, not only of the temperature and tone of the ‘times’, but of the year and years gone by, like so many leaves from a tree. And, of course, winter’s bountiful silence and deep sense of self; clear, cold nights with nothing above but stars, infinity and imagination, leaving one free to create, appreciate and admire, crushing negativity aside as in a spent ember from the fireplace… Oh, where am I?  Cape Cod, I remember, yes, this is a great place to recall those tides of yesteryear, casting aside that which was negative and holding onto the LOVE ever present in everything we touch, taste, hear, smell and SEA! It is a choice after all (love and fear/hate), for we are not bound to some “pledge” some dictate from Washington D.C. tries to force down our throats via the ever polluted “leaders” and airwaves, supported by the big polluting billionaires who own most of this country now, including the way that it ‘thinks’, save the FACT that it is still a democracy, by GOD!  And this health care law proves that FACT!  The shameless right wing noise machines–radio, television, papers, magazines and other periodicals–are busy at work trying to get you to buy into the hate, the nonsense that these bullies, lying bullies are spouting 24/7 to the sheep that listen and if that statement offends you, then you may be a lamb.  But there is hope for you, you can wake up and keep big business out of people’s lives and allow good government, “Of the people, By the People and For the People” to flourish and evolve into something even better than the Founders could possibly have imagined.  Social values does not make this a socialist country, as it is obviously very, very far from that.  However, what is true is that this nation is slowly becoming a nation ruled by an elite few, such as the Koch Brothers, whose Ad campaigns have stained this country for far too long, and it is all due to the fatal Citizens United decision of 2010 by the highest court in the land allowing corporations to basically buy elections, buying politicians who will do their bidding…yes, an elite few who feel that they can poison our water and our air, tell us who to love, tell women what we can and can’t do with our own bodies, impede the right to vote, flood the country with guns, deny health care to the poor, many of whom are children they supposedly cherish and rig the system so that someone small cannot stand up and call these cowards out for who and what they truly are–thieves, hypocrites, cowards and, in many cases, true morons and yes men, empty suits, who believe that the sky is the color David Koch believes it is today.  Last night on “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell”, weeknights at ten eastern only on MSNBC, except Friday when you can see Alec Baldwin do a great job of being a host on a ‘talk show’), he had a segment on “who will pay more under ‘Obamacare’?” Ever remembering who is behind the curtain in regard to trying to repeal the law, fanning the flames of the right wing extremists regarding those who “got their (junk) plan cancelled”, using the one percent for the one percent…  Here are the numbers– 80% unaffected, 15% uninsured, 2.5% can get similar plan, 1.5% must buy better plan with subsidies and 1.5% must buy a better plan with no subsidies.  Couple those numbers (source: Jonathon Gruber, MIT, Brookings Institute) with the new Council of Economic Advisers’ numbers and you will see medical costs dropping significantly, one of the goals of the Affordable Care Act, easing the strain of the ever increasing cost of medical care (prior now to “Obamacare“), the FOR PROFIT insurance “delivery” system right here in the good ‘ole US of A.  My, my, my, you would think these idiots on the right would be proud of the plan they hatched over two decades ago, thanks Heritage Foundation for giving up on the idea that we now take credit for!  For this plan–this act, this gift for 40 million Americans–can now boast that, for the first time EVER, health care spending growth is now the lowest EVER recorded at 1.3 percent!  Health care price inflation is at it’s lowest rate in 50 years at 1 percent!  Hello, McFly, is this thing on?  Think McFly think! This has forced the Congressional Budget Office to reduce it’s projections of future Medicare and Medicaid spending substantially, representing about a 10 percent reduction in projected spending on the government’s biggest health care programs.  What is the age old question round this time of year?  Is it better to receive or to give?  Well, if you are an old billionaire sitting atop a hill in a mansion, needing nothing but perhaps LOVE, why not consider stoking the fires of good will to those in need of receiving, such as food and affordable health care at the holidays?  Like all of those Walmart employees, not to mention the homeless in the streets whose voices were gobbled up many years ago by ‘the powers that be’ (at the moment).  Food for the soul, my brother, food for soul…ya know? PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

“…a fisherman of men.”

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the bright, blue, beautiful, brisk and bountiful island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Thursday morning, the fourteenth day of November, 2013, a gorgeous one out there as I gaze out upon Hyannis Harbor and the “Iyanough”, the ‘Steamship Authority’s’ fast ferry to Nantucket, with a trillion “sparklies” dancing upon the water, yes, it’s a good day to be alive.  Speaking of alive, ACA, or the Affordable Care Act continues it’s infancy with 105,000 or so participants signing up (or 20 percent of what the administration had anticipated), as the website continues to improve (as will the number of people signing up).  However, there has been an uproar over “people losing their health plans they were told they could keep”.  Well, let’s set the record straight.  I was an executive in the group medical insurance world for more than a decade and a half and what I saw and managed in that market would make your jaw drop.  These insurance carriers drop plans all the time, moreover, there never was a guarantee anyone could keep their plan or doctor as the President obviously has no authority over private plans or doctor’s careers.  99 percent of the plans in question are junk plans, or insurance in name only, for when someone gets sick, many times the insurance carrier will find some preexisting condition that will nullify their original application and thus deny coverage.  Most bankruptcies in this country occur for exactly this reason and proves that the system as a whole, pre-”Obamacare”, was fatally flawed, not to mention morally bankrupt, as more and more Americans fell beneath the cracks in the system.  What is more troubling is the fact that the Medicaid expansion, bringing health care insurance to the poor, millions of them in 26 states, is being denied by republican governors, like Texas’ Governor Rick Perry, begging the question, “what the hell is wrong with these guys?”.  The republican party has no intention of doing anything, but obstructing and hopefully, God Forbid, repealing, in the foreseeable future in congress or anywhere else, at least until they can unseat this very fine President, Barack Obama, whose vision and guts passed a LAW that finally gives a majority of people a fighting chance at health care and a happy life (a human right!), a right the rich take for granted everyday.  I pray that democrats do not panic and change law in order to appease a few ‘losers’ in the transition, for 9 times out of 10, they will be better off with a plan that actually lives up to the definition of INSURANCE to begin with, while it makes this nation healthier and richer, cutting out the waste of ‘the emergency room’ as the primary physician for millions, with the cost of that care being passed on to the average tax payer in the way of higher premiums for all, while it adds to the overall deficit.  Come on people, wake up!  This was originally a republican plan, hatched from the right wing think tank, ‘the Heritage Foundation’, back in the early nineties, evolving into “Romneycare” here in the great state of Massachusetts in 2006, where the enrollment started very, very slow, only to rocket up to millions with the state now achieving almost 100 percent of it’s citizens being covered by some kind of insurance plan or another.  You have to ask yourself the question, “why are we giving Mayor Ford of Toronto such as hard time with his crack smokin’ and whiskey drinkin’ when we have an entire caucus right there in Washington D.C. blowing all kinds of crack smoke in the American people’s faces?  Politicians in full denial of their behavior and refusing any help as common sense attempts an intervention of the whole lot of ‘em.  God help US!  Have a nice day folks and keep on keepin’ on…this is still a beautiful world.  Cast off the shadows of horrible men in cheap suits and smell the roses, take a bike ride, a boat ride or a sail ride, but don’t take a ride on the FOX & FRIENDS merry-go-round from hell, even though it’s bright and shiny ride, complete with a pretty girl telling you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye (credit musician Don Henley from “The Eagles“).  Please, for the LOVE of GOD don’t buy a ticket on that ride; like crack, it is highly addictive and might leave you in a state of delusion where the person who is helping you find your wallet is actually the person who stole it from you to begin with…stop voting against your OWN, and your family’s, best interests!  “Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son” (credit ‘Dean Wormer’ from the classic 1978 film, “Animal House”, starring the late, great John Belushi, who might have had a thing or two to say to the likes of a Ted, “don’t you just hate poor people?”, Cruz or Sarah, “crazy horse”, Palin).  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Angry Seas

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the raw, windy and snowy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this 12th day of November, 2013, or 11-12-13, coming to you LIVE from the Hyannis Harbor, looking out onto the first snow of the season, as it collects on my pumpkin outside.  Typhoon Haiyan hit the island nation of the Philippines 56 hours or so ago and the world has taken notice.  An estimated 10,000 people have lost their lives, cities and towns have literally been ripped from the earth, complete devastation, and communication has been cut, leaving the millions of survivors without food, water or shelter as they go about the grim business of putting their lives back together when looking at the overwhelming destruction no matter which way they turn their gaze.  The storm, dubbed by professional meteorologists as the most powerful ever recorded on planet earth, pounded the area for 18 hours, with sustained winds clocking in at 195 miles per hour, gusts up to 235, a 20 foot storm surge (not a wave, but a wall of water that must get somewhere when it hits land), and the inevitable flooding from said surge that swept away entire villages from their foundation.  It was only a little over a year ago that ’super storm Sandy’ hit the east coast of this country and as you could see, or may have lived through (and many still are!), what it did to a largely urban setting, with modern infrastructure and what not. Imagine what this even more powerful storm, much more powerful than Sandy, did to more primitive dwellings, not made of mortar and steel, but of clay and wood, palm and prayer?  Island nations such as this one, or the Maldives, are ever more prone to these ferocious typhoons as the seas continue to rise, coming close to overtaking the reality of a country that is only two feet above sea level.  Couple that with the rising surface temperatures of the seas around the world and you will conclude, scientifically and empirically, really one and the same, that this phenomenon–global warmingis the REASON why we will continue to see more and more of these mega storms, as well as more severe droughts, wild fires, eventual food shortages, rising seas and eventual mass displacements of large populations world wide, as those masses who have come to inhabit more and more of the coastlines, find themselves unable to continue living in an increasingly uninhabitable place.  Of course, that is not even on the radar for “the Governor of New Jersey” or “the tea party poster boy”.  Because money is the name of the game and if the planet melts, then so be it!  It must be the will of God and the fault of those uppity women, or the gays, the blacks, the Hispanics, the damn environmentalists, ah, well, it must be somebody’s fault, God dammit, ’cause I don’t have time for all of this ’science’ stuff, not with a primary coming up and more fund raising to do!  To hell with the next generation, I’m sure we can build a wall to keep out the next storm surge from the next hurricane, I mean, come on, how many Sandy’s are we realistically gonna get?  Huh?  So true my little republican friend, so true, I just hope you and yours are out of harm’s way when it does strike again, for just as this is a “global economy” so to is it a global environment and what affects the Polar Bear and the Bee, so to affects man in the end.  Without clean drinking water, clean air and clean intentions, where will WE be in 50 years Senator?  Have a wonderful day folks and keep on dodgin’ those wooden nickles thrown about by Rupert, “arrrrrrrgggggghh matie”, Murdoch’s FOX NEWS; side effects still include paranoia, purging, nausea, development of a twang, a horrible twang in one’s own native accent, as well as countless other issues with the bowels, tongue, throat and vision not to mention mild mental “challenges”, such as brain washing, dementia and tunnel vision, oh yeah and the eventual drooling…  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the partly cloudy, mild and calm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Sunday afternoon, Veteran’s Day weekend, the tenth day of November, 2013.  What a week it’s been eh?  Chris Christie winning his second term as governor of the great state of New Jersey, Bill de Blasio becoming the first democrat elected mayor of New York in twenty years–both winning by landslides–and the tea party candidates taking it on the chin in Virginia with Terry McAuliffe, a democrat, taking the mantle of Governor in that vital swing state, arguably the “new Ohio”… pundits already addicted to 2014 and 2016 with the obvious fact being the very conservative Christie will still come up well short in the crazy department that defines the corporate tea party followers and so called ‘leaders, reserved for the likes of Ted Cruz and plagiarist, fellow Senator Rand Paul who see that “elephant in the room” as a viable threat to their own presidential aspirations…it should be fun to watch the slaughter.  The world is going quite crazy I tell ya, with a crack smokin’ mayor up in Toronto actually gaining popularity, this whole game of geopolitics is becoming better television than even the great Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show” or the genius of Stephen Colbert of “The Colbert Report” could have ever imagined or written themselves (with the help of a whole lot of other writers), comic giants benefiting from art imitating life, basically turning material that virtually writes itself–proving that FACT is stranger than fiction, and a whole lot more entertaining.  To bad it’s so damn tragic.  Twitter, the micro blog of our time, went public on Thursday and looks as if it will eventually follow the success of Facebook.  For what could possibly be better than following other people, learning all about their lunch and keeping up to date with their kids most recent play at school, although if I had kids, I probably would do the same.  I just don’t get Twitter, even though I have an account and all.  How does someone get hundreds of thousands of ‘followers’?, moreover, why would anyone want them?  I can see how ‘Tweeting’ can help with bringing instant news to the world at large and how it can help in war torn countries, such as Syria, when dictators poison their own people.  However, it, ‘the Tweet’ illuminates the typical American’s general problem in it’s eternal struggle with ADD, ‘attention deficit disorder’, a true DIS-order that is coupled with an instant satisfaction mantra that needs to be constantly fed, ‘knowing’ lots of stuff but not really being able to put it into a chronological, intelligent and valuable viewpoint that was not born from the brainwashing of say a FOX NEWS or a hater-hack like right wing(nut) radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, the defacto ’spiritual’, mean spirited, leader of the republican party, a party on it’s way out if it does not change it’s tune soon.  With a day set aside for our great men and women in uniform tomorrow–Happy Veterans Day!!, by the way, and may God Bless you all, especially those who are still suffering needlessly with untreated PTSD, or ‘post traumatic stress disorder’– why not take that day to pick up a BOOK on our thirty-fifth President, Jack Kennedy, who showed in only a few short years what courage looked like when staring nuclear war and the end of the world in the face, not being taken hostage by fear or bullying, never yielding to popular notions of the day, but holding fast to principals I pray we all hold dear.  None of those could be more apparent in our 2013 than health care, affordable health care, especially for the poor, the folks the right kick under the bus at any opportunity, with 26 governors in 26 states not taking the Medicaid money the rest of the nation took advantage of so as to take care of those medically, the MORAL thing to do!, who can’t afford a pot to piss in.  Take Texas for example, with millions being needlessly left out in the cold because Governor Rick Perry has a big stick up his a$$.  God have mercy on his cold soul.  The website will be fixed, but will those who die in vain because of some sick ideology, and those who are survived by them, ever be whole, in this life or the next?  If I were Rick, a good ‘ole boy Christian in name only, or CINO, I might think about changing religions, because when Jesus does return, it won’t be in a lamb form, and I can imagine he will not take kindly to those who have everything kicking sand in the face of those who have nothing.  Food for thought all you tea party hypocrites!  Have a nice day and rest of the week end and may the force of LOVE, that IS God, be with the veterans of all wars from these shores and ‘those’ shores, healing them ALL and imparting Wisdom to the rest of US–the notion that war is no longer an option–for when that is your attitude, peace takes on a whole new power. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
