Squaw Island

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 12:03 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the gorgeous, sunny, mild and intoxicating island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this 30th day of July, 2013, a Tuesday morning, roughly 11:07 a.m. eastern standard, coming to you LIVE from Hyannis/Hyannis Port here on the mainland of the Cape and Islands aforementioned, truly the hub of this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age, an age, I am sure 99 percent of scientists worth their salt would agree, will not be visiting these shores any time soon.  I have finally plugged back in, much to my dismay, into the ‘real world’ of politics and the environment of which this blog has been based upon.  I thought I would take the summer, which I did, and reflect without television, phones and sometimes even this Internet. To unplug from the constant crap going on across the globe, yes taking in the natural beauty all around me in every form– to take in the shift that has already occurred.  Yes sir that Internet I “need” to communicate my thoughts and hopeful visions for the future of not only this nation, but the world at large–bringing some sense, COMMON SENSE, to real problems facing us all and thank GOD I am not alone!  None so much as the real upcoming threat for all humanity in the next millennium–global warming… Leaving that issue aside for the moment, the new fun on Capitol Hill this summer break for the kids is the upcoming “Friscal Cliff” of a possible government shutdown over the debt ceiling, with republican legislatures, if you wish to call them that, pushing for more austerity, seeming to “think” that will bolster the ever vanishing middle class.  HOGWASH!  The whole purpose of the duped so called “tea party”, a manufactured group of dim wits whose eyes have been sealed by the wool pulled over those eyes by ‘men’ like the Koch Brother–whose only mission is for the status quo of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer to remain in tact until this country is nothing more than the football stadiums you see now across these amber waves of grain... such as the former Boston Garden now being called, “TD BANK NORTH”…  Yes sir come on down to the new, new United States of American folks!  Let us just call it what it is truly becoming, “the United States of Exxon-Mobile”, whose profits are up with God’s own Grace–but of course, without the GRACE!  President Barack Obama, is up against this new debt ceiling cliff of a possible government shut down because he is pitted against a rogue group of radical republicans who do not want the Affordable Care Act, PASSED into law in his first term as President, to go forward, stating that it is only hurting small business’s that “make up most of the economy in this country”, not to mention the EPA and about ten other critical government agencies that keep this country from falling into the hands of a corporate CEO like a David Koch who only want to rape and pillage it for their OWN PROFIT, i.e. their modus operandi, PROFIT OVER PEOPLE! Again, HOGWASH!  Most of that profit you sea on Wall Street comes from revenue making money makers involved in BIG BUSINESS, not the other way around, and most of that revenue is whisked away from the U.S. Treasury Department via tax loopholes one could drive a Mack TRUCK through and placed in banks off shore–never giving back to a society that gave them the opportunity in the first place.  It is time to wake up America and not let these thieves take any more blood from your collective veins.  Take SAC Hedge funds for example which is just the tip of the iceberg.  Not one man was indicted for the 2008 investment banking meltdown that was given to Obama as a welcome home present of sorts.  A whole lot of people made a whole lot of money over the past 50 years and many in this nation are struggling to put food on the table–THAT IS the REAL NEWS. I find the republican agenda abhorrent and if President’s Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt where alive today, they would take those boys down to the woodshed and teach them a lesson.  WAKE UP AMERICA! Who is truly on the side of the 99 percent?…  Who is most clearly not?  Have a nice day folks and you can rest assured this reporter will be back– same bat time same bat channel– tomorrow preferably when the sun is warm, around 1:30 or 2 o’clock!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

SEA chapel…

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautiful, sunny, rather temperate island of Nantucket! Great to be with you once again on this 24th day of July, 2013, a nice Wednesday morning around the nine o’clock hour, as I have adopted what Bill Murray stated in an old skit from National Lampoon’s famous “That’s not funny, it’s sick”, circa 1970 (a classic LP that I highly recommend), when he, being interviewed by Harold Ramis, both of SNL fame and countless movies to both their credit, stated, “I like to get up when the sun is warm, you know around 1:30 or 2 o’clock in the afternoon”, to wit Fred Rogers (voiced by Mr. Ramis) states, “I like to get up around 6:30″.  To which Murray, playing an African-American great Bass player whom is being interviewed by Mr. Rogers retorts, “…..That’s insane man, you should sleep later, it’s better on your Constitution.”  Yes, the dog days of summer are upon US all, even though I should not complain, for the natural air conditioning system of the ocean here in Hyannis/Hyannis Port works like a charm most of the time.  President Obama will give a speech today regarding the economy, but I have to say, I was struck by his candor and grace, as always, regarding this case that has gripped the nation, the Trayvon Martin killing.  Race in this nation is Paramount and so too is the need to get a grip on gun control.  But knowing what the political landscape IS in D.C. these days, makes it hard to see anything changing for those young black kids who are just trying to find their way out of poverty, drugs and violence, as we cut back on education and food for them to be able to succeed, like so many of our youth today.  My prayer is, as always, to find a way forward– sea through the darkness of ignorance and intolerance and make a path that truly embodies that ideal in the words of our leaders many moons ago who created this great country, “that we hold these TRUTHS to be self evident…that all men are created equal”.  Now here’s Tom with the weather! Have a great day and week ahead folks and keep it tuned to seacapcod.net, the only news source that won’t pull the wool over your eyes.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

A Vigil…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 11:53 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the hot, sunny, relatively speaking, and soon to be thunderous island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, the 20th day of July, 2013, another scorcher out there, although we here on the Cape and Islands are not complaining, well, some people may be, about this oppressive heat wave that has gripped not only New England, where the temperatures in Boston have remained in the upper 90’s for the past seven, now eight days, but much of the country, from the wild fires in Palm Springs to the melting of the glaciers around the world…  Of Course the weather is much worse inland and as I look to our leader and scientist/Senator from the great state of Oklahoma, Mr., give it up for, James Inhofe, a republican whose most famous line of his career as a politician was, “global warming is the greatest hoax ever to be played upon the people of the United States”, has got to be pleased with his meteorological theories–soon to be published by the Smithsonian Institute.  Gotta love him!  Tell that to the people who are living without air conditioning, mostly poor and elderly folks who have a tough time with this weather, not to mention the children.  Of course, it is not the fault of the Senator, nor the republican party, in fact it is just a bloody shame they can’t get on board of what 99 percent of world renown scientists have confirmed– that this is all due to mankind’s continues spewing, like an open sewer, of carbon dioxide, i.e. green house gassed emitted from the burning of fossil fuels, into that said atmosphere, an atmosphere, by the way, WE all share, as will our kids and grand kids down the line.  So, stay cool and help out those most affected by this most recent outbreak of heat that is off the charts–the young and the elderly–especially those without air conditioning, water or food for that matter…  Turning back to what I spoke of, as well as our great President Barack Obama wonderfully turned his attention to on Friday–the Trayvon Martin case.  The President spoke to the nation regarding this tragedy and travesty of JUSTICE and made it clear that 35 years ago, and I quote, “…that could have been me.”  (regarding Trayvon, who was shot down in cold blood by a wanna be cop who used the “stand your ground law” as a vigilante racial move to kill another innocent CHILD).  We need to take a hard look at race relations in this country and take it seriously, for I just watched the film “Lincoln” once again, having seen it in the theaters when it first came out.  The very first part of that movie showed the bloody Civil War at it’s beginning and portrayed a young African-American soldier who was fighting on behalf of the Union Army.  He spoke in earnest with the President, arguably the greatest President of our time, Abraham Lincoln in the year of 1863, yes he spoke of the Emancipation Proclamation and quoted it verbatim, essentially stating that this nation, “Of the people, by the PEOPLE and FOR the PEOPLE will not vanish from the face of the EARTH”. This sentiment remains in tact for ALL to witness, NOW and in the coming years.  I pray this does not go unnoticed, as Vigils all around the country today mark the end of another kind of slavery, racial profiling.  The great Reverend Al Sharpton puts together said Vigils for Trayvon and his family in over 100 cities across this great land of OURS, ALL of OURS! God Speed sir, whose show, “Politics Nation”, can be viewed every week day on MSNBC at 6 p.m. eastern standard.  Have a great week end folks and may the Force be with you. The FORCE being the arc of good that always bends towards JUSTICE for ALL! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Justice served?

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, hot, hazy and humid island of Nantucket! Great to be with you all on this fifteenth day of July, 2013, another hot one here in New England, especially inland, as temperatures will soar to at least 92 degrees in Boston today, a little cooler here in Hyannis/Hyannis Port, with little relief in sight for the rest of the week, with hot and those humid conditions making their way back into our collective society, with many tourists enjoying some quality beach days on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age…  On this Monday morning we are all waking up to the trial of George Zimmerman, accused of killing one 17 year old boy, Trayvon Martin 17 months ago in Sanford, Florida.  This humble reporter has a few things to say about the acquittal of a so called “neighborhood watchman”, writing about it extensively over the course of the past few moons, yes, a man who took it upon himself to stalk the youngster, armed with only skittles and a cool soda, making his way through a gated community that he had every right to be in, only going to visit a family member and watch the NBA all star game on television, upon which he fired a fatal bullet that took the boy’s life.  Zimmerman shot Trayvon, supposedly in ’self defense’ when WE all know what really happened here–just another case of racial profiling and a failure in the justice system that does not serve young African American males in this country the way they would have had if the races were reversed.  There is no doubt in my mind the debate will continue, for as long as there are civil rights activists such as the great Reverend Al Sharpton on the case, we hopefully, someday, will all realize WE are one and should respect and LOVE one another as our selves, not jumping to conclusions about what someone of color may or may not be up to.  My prayers go out to Trayvon’s parents and family members, as well as Trayvon himself, who did not deserve to die, nor deserve this abhorrent verdict.  Have a nice week folks, and I will look forward to SEA-ing you tomorrow, “same bat time, same bat channel”. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace!~~M

Another day in Paradise…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 1:31 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again rather foggy, soon to be thunderous island of Nantucket! Great to be back with you on this Wednesday afternoon, the10th day of July, 2013, hoping you all had a nice fourth of July break from the action of this world we ALL share. Taking in what matters the most–family, friends, loved ones from all stripes and corners of the globe, for that is what it is REALLY all about…of course you already knew that.   What can I tell you that you have not heard ad nauseum on ye ‘ole cable news shows, radio and other ’sources’ of information…?  Snowden, Syria, Egypt, the various plane crashes, wild fires?  Yikes!  It is almost not worth repeating, for this is, after all, summer and it my humble opinion WE deserve at least a two week vacation from all of the negative to charge up our batteries to go forward into the next phase of collective development.  However, I would like to plug a man whose work in the field of climate change, or global warming as it gets more to the point is unprecedented… James B. McClintock, a professor out of the University of Alabama.  His work in Antarctica dates back to 1982, having studied this world’s climate from the depths of the ocean, land and air. The book is entitled, “Lost Antarctica:  Adventures in a Disappearing Land”, and is an extraordinary read and I highly recommend it.  He spoke to NPR this morning here in Boston on the venerable show, “On Point” and explained what is truly going on with the ever melting ice sheets on our seventh continent, changing eco-structures that will eventually affect us all.  As I have said before, we can no longer act in denial of what is TRULY happening to our planet, acting like Ostriches, putting their heads in the sand.  Plant a tree today or take the foot off the gas peddle, but more importantly, support politicians who embrace this upcoming crisis for not so much this generation, but for those who follow us.  Have a great week ahead folks and come on down and visit US on Cape and the Islands aforementioned, we will, as always, “Leave the LIGHT on for ya!” PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Hyannis Love for 4th of July!

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 5:24 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautiful, sunny island of Nantucket! Happy Fourth of July my friends and I hope you are all well, even though you are not here to share it with me…is that shellfish? I took a break from this ‘commentary’ for a while, truly unplugging from television, I pads and media sources of all sorts, for I knew that it would set me FREE–i.e. Independence–the whole point of this great nation now 237 years YOUNG.  Anyway, please give LOVE to those whose lives were spent creating this wonderful grouping of immigrants from every corner of the world and remember what it means to be an American...”…LAND of the FREE and HOME of the BRAVE!” God Bless and come on down and visit US here on the Cape and aforementioned islands…we will, as always, leave the LIGHT on for ya!”   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
