Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, temperate, incredibly gracious island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this momentous day in this nation, whether you cover politics or not, for today, was a day that this country witnessed what OUR founders had envisioned all along.  I speak in broad terms, however, so do the Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States of America. The “Affordable Health Care Act”, signed into LAW only a few years ago by President Barack Obama, held her ground, providing more than most Americans KNOW at present. As it was on this day, Chief Justice John Roberts made a morally correct decision to uphold that law, along with it’s key provision, namely, the ‘individual mandate’, making insurance ‘affordable’ for EVERYONE, a move that will go down in the annuls of ‘time’… , a LAW, by the way, that even the BIPARTISAN congressional budget office deems will bring down health care costs, not increase them.  President Barack Obama deserves much credit for his efforts on behalf of the American People and WE should ALL take notice said FACT.  For this signature piece of legislation was Senator Teddy Kennedy’s–of this great state of Massachusetts–life’s work, the LAST LION OF THE SENATE. A concept that allows US to SEA that ALL in this fair land receive a benefit known as health care, a man who saw it as a RIGHT, not a privilege. God Bless America!     PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the breezy, sunny, amazingly gorgeous island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours again, just for a moment, as I am ‘on assignment’, so this will be only a pause in our informational pool, for here WE all are, listening, on this 27th day of June, my brother’s birthday, who lives, ironically, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, hello Marcus!, Happy Birthday!  But I digress, yes, in this year of OUR Lord 2012… However, I could not resist this ONE! Like my pal, “Wicked Cool Hand Luke”, Russert, only of MSNBC, I am confident in the mark when he spoke of this interesting deal going on in the next 36/48 hours, i.e. the possible strike down of the ‘individual mandate’ in what the “Heritage Foundation” put together only a few decades ago…e.g., insurance reform. Like that guy political guy Mitt Romney who put together ‘Obamacare’, oh, I mean Romney care that was part and parcel of the individual mandate that made that program WORK in this fine state of Massachusetts to begin with…deal with FACTS sir! So, as my home state of Colorado burns to the ground, Rocky Mountains on HIGH, well, you can just take all of your witch hunt horse hockey you KNOW what elsewhere–especially you Darrell Issa. Really, you sir!  Although I liked you on Bill Maher’s “REAL TIME”, only on HBO, what happened?… who’s side are you on anyways? US?  SEA you soon and have a great rest of the week–same bat time, same BAT channel! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the thunderous island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this windy, gorgeous day on Cape and, of course, those incredible islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Islands, I might add, that I came back to because I loved them so… Hope you get a chance to SEA them, for they offer more than you can possibly know.  There is nothing to say regarding these sacred islands save this, they are steeped in history–history that IS OUR heritage, thus, should be noted for posterity’s sake not to mention for this nation’s sake. Perhaps a little deep on this Monday, the 25th day of June, but, remember this, when I first came here from the Mountains of Colorado, I was never the same, nor will be ever again… That is what I wish for you and yours–to SEA, to enjoy and to BE with nature once again… Have a great week ahead and I will SEA you, God willing, a little later on as I will be ‘on assignment’ for the next few days.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the wonderfully breezy, refreshing island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, the twenty third day of June, 2012, a day of quite reflection as WE all cool off from that oppressive heat of yesterday where temperatures soared into the upper nineties here on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age…  A whole lot going on here as the Nantucket Film Festival is moving into high gear, culminating this week end with hits like “Brave” as so forth.  Good Luck to all and have a great time, for there IS nothing better than a good film and a cool drink from the fountain of JOY therein.  Looking UP above you is a picture of two young men whose names, nor faces, wished to be revealed, however, as you can clearly SEA, they ARE today’s youth, and wondering whether or not the “adults” in the room give two you Know what’s about their welfare.  WE have come so far in this country and it should be quite clear what DIRECTION WE wish to proceed in, as a nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible, with LIBERTY and JUSTICE for ALL!  Have a wonderful rest of your week end, and from the shores of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, may we meet again soon, quite soon, but, until then, we will, as always, leave the LIGHT on for YA! p.s. good luck to Dylan Ratigan, former host of ‘the DR SHOW’, only of MSNBC, he will be missed–God’s speed sir! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the quite warm, sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Friday morning, the 22nd day of June, 2012, another spectacular day on Cape as the summer sun has finally shown her face on this fair piece of ‘property’ known round ‘these here parts’ as ‘the Cape and the Islands’, a little nook, if you will, created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age… Above you is the famous Cape Cod Hydrangea flower that blooms abundant on this aforementioned sand bar, colors ranging from ‘Niko Blue’ to ‘Lamb’s tail white’, and everything in between, much like our society, for, in reality, what is GOD’S skin color anyhow? With the ongoing witch hunt in Washington D.C. continuing on in full throttle (U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder being blamed for the lack of AK 47’s in this nation), well, I suppose it is just business as usual, isn’t that right Representative Darrell Issa of California?  Well, too bad for you, for you could be enjoying what WE all KNOW to be TRUE–i.e., that the sun will rise in the EAST tomorrow and that mother’s, daughters, sisters, brothers, fathers, nieces and nephews WILL continue to LIVE their lives, without the interference of some outside groups that are hell bent on destroying this democracy created 236 years ago by MEN far greater than those who are trying to tear it down.  Have a nice day. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Hi there!

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the warm, sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday, June the 20th, 2012, “National Bald Eagle Day”, per Dylan Ratigan, of “the DR. SHOW”, only on MSNBC, LIVE every week day at 4 p.m., eastern standard of course, and it was a privilege once again to watch one of the men who brings the TRUTH to the NEWS every day, kind of like my pal Keith Olbermann… One of those guests on his show was a young Matt Segal, of “OUR TIME.ORG”, the only place one would need to go for the TRUTH of what young people are truly INTERESTED IN–namely, ‘what the f45k are you people thinking?–young people NEED jobs, need education, need training, NEED a purpose in a country that WE all thought was based on WE THE PEOPLE, i.e. democracy with that little letter ‘d‘, not ‘WE’, really?, the corporations.  HA! Corporations are a good thing, do not get me wrong, however, when people get the shaft so that a few wealthy plutocrats make a few more billion on the hedge of this or that, well, that is just plain WRONG and UN-American.  This is TRUTH, for I work for no man and I have no ax to grind, save this, standing up for the AMERICAN PEOPLE, ALL of them.   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! p.s. Good Luck to Imogen Lloyd Webber, an extraordinary person and reporter whom I must have met in London years ago…  Peace~M

Heck of a Day at SEA sir!

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cloudy, gorgeous island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this 18th day of June, 2012, a “calm day at SEA sir”, (credit the film, “Overboard”, starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn for that one…), coming to you LIVE from the shores of Cotuit, “where the ocean meets the wood”, an Old Cape Town where few know, but many stay.  What can I tell you?  Truth is, I had one of the best days of my life, “…at SEA“, this past Saturday afternoon”, with ’strangers’ from the fine town of Chicago, IL.  I had no idea I was going out to fish for ‘Stripers’ that day, but my friend, if I could be so bold, Allen G. Metcalfe, Jr., and his incredible crew, along with the great “TY”, via the Cotuit Fire Department, brought on seven of those magnificent fish, Striped Sea Bass, on board and I watched in wonder, talking with a man who had just been to Jerusalem…, that is what I am trying to tell ‘y’all’, you have to come to Cape Cod and the Islands, for you never know what LIGHT may shine upon you that day.  Big shout out to F.E. Moran Fire Protection, Northbrook, IL, Al and his great friends, one of whom, hit 1000 percent!   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Nantucket’s Blue Sky`

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 11:44 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the amazingly blue skied, cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday afternoon, the 16th day of June, 2012, a truly seasonal day on Cape, as well as the islands aforementioned, a day good for golf, boating, deep sea diving, um, biking, well, you name it, because here on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the “Last Great Ice Age”, you just can’t go wrong now can you? So come on down and visit US!  We will, as always, leave the LIGHT on for YA!”  Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend, perhaps taking in a movie?  Think about this one, just for a moment–“That’s My Boy”–starring the hilarious Adam Sandler, Leighton Meester, Susan Sarandon, James Caan, the great Tony Orlando, Andy Sandberg, Will Forte, among other SNL greats, and well, the list just goes on and on and on…  This film, which came out last night world wide, is not for the faint of heart, for it touches on some rather deep philosophical issues WE all face, from ‘time to time’, and the humor could not be funnier or more direct.  I highly recommend this film, not only because it was shot here in Osterville, as well as parts of Boston, but because it is just that damn good. However, I would recommend that the children under the age of 11 perhaps not see it, for it contains some rather adult like machinations that may or may not, be suitable for children who have never seen Opera Man, in full context of course… Have a wonderful rest of the week end folks and may GOD be with US ALL during this silly season of political high theater that really has no place in a civilized society…  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Nantucket Harbor

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:16 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cool, breezy, rather windy overcast island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Tuesday morning, the 12th day of June, 2012, another stellar day on Cape, Cotuit to be precise, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’… Yesterday and this past week end were perhaps the most beautiful days WE have seen on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by The Last Great Ice Age thus far this year, as the sun was out, people were on the beach, kids were playing in the sand, young golden lab puppies jumping in and out of the salty water for their first time, yes sir, a real hint on things to come…, so I will say it once again, ‘come on down and visit US, we’ll leave the LIGHT on for YA!’ Speaking of Lights, check out Nantucket island this summer, should you dare,  venturing to that far away island eventually named “Nantucket”.  Looking up at that famous harbor and some goof ball posing in front of perhaps the most expensive place to ‘paaark your yacht’ in the world–Nantucket Harbor.  Nantucket is an interesting place, full of natural beauty, amazing beaches, such as Madakat and Surfside, all the way to the other side of the island where that long abandoned beach that leads up to Great Point Light looks vulnerable and pristine in the shimmering summer sun.  Sankaty is another Lighthouse that is worth noting, as it’s red and white pillar stands out as a testimony to the coined “Nantucket Red”, and shines out to all who can SEA what those old world ancestors of ours used to navigate their vessels safely back to that harbor aforementioned so many moons ago.  Brandt Point Light, ‘the Lighthouse with nine lives’ is perhaps my favorite, as you can see from the formal picture taken only a few short days ago.  This lighthouse was blown down by storms time after time, nine times in fact, over the centuries, and rebuilt better and more beautiful than before.  Proving once again the resiliency of the American spirit and the people who embody that spirit.  Anytime is a good time to visit Nantucket, winter, spring, summer or fall, remembering that the Lighthouses that dot that little, as the Indians once called it, ‘the far away island’, bring the new and old together evolving from what was once a world famous whaling town to what is now the most expensive zip code in the country, just taking over that top spot from 90210, in Beverly Hills of course.  Ah, Nantucket, so many memories, a place I once took a winter sabbatical from the corporate world of employee benefit consulting all over this country, taking a job at Island Airlines and living in an amazing ‘upside down house’ on Surfside, where the only thing between you and Antarctica is about 8000 miles of open ocean.  That was back in 1997 and it was not to be, as Al Pacino once said in “The Godfather”, “every time I thought I was out (meaning the corporate golden handcuff), they pulled me back in”, and so, with deep regret, I left that fair island for New York, then Denver, to new ‘corporate gigs’ that awaited me, until, sometime in 2003, July to be precise, I made it back, no real plan this time, yet, somehow I knew my writing career, my photography passion, would somehow blossom in a place I considered to be one of my favorite spots on planet earth, and still do.  Again, I want to shout out to 97.7 ACK FM radio, a new great station on that fair island that offers some independent thought and music, not found any longer on the corporate owned airwaves such as ‘Clear Channel’, where a computer talks to you like he is a real person and your buddy, much like the folly of the Supreme Court’s decision in 2010 to give ‘corporations are people too my friend’ (credit Mitt Romney) the same rights as real, live, breathing human beings (Citizens United), effectively taking away right after right–rights that this country was FOUNDED UPON! So God Bless whoever came up with that great station and please keep on keeping on with that great sound you put out over ‘ye ‘ole Nantucket Sound, like a light of LOVE coming from a place I thought I could never love again.  Kudos! Have a nice day folks and keep an eye to the sky, for you never know what tomorrow’s weather, or today’s, might bring…  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Nantucket Sound’s Rainbow

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 11:15 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the windy, cool, gorgeous island of Nantucket–a sunny one at that! Great to be with you and yours on this Monday morning, the 11th day of June, 2012, a little late, but, hey, at least I am back in that ‘game‘ of writing again, after taking a few moments of ‘time’ to take in the TRUE amazing beauty that is this little sand bar called ‘The Cape and the Islands’, a sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age… Looking above you, you may notice a rainbow I took a shot of only 48 hours ago, a true ARC that stretched from the depths of Nantucket Sound to the heart of Oyster Harbors, an old hunting ground once owned by the Crosby Yacht family of fame, now home to the rich and ‘famous’, whose shores look out onto the same bay of Cotuit, where, of course, that ‘ocean meets the wood’… I cannot describe in words the AWE I felt when I witnessed this magnificent mark of nature, save this– ‘come on down and visit US!, we will, as always, leave the light on for YA!’. When I took my break from writing for a week, I also took a break from the world of politics, and the nastiness that can, and always does, come with that territory.  It has been a wonder to turn off the ‘TV’ just for a moment, unplug, as it were, and take in what is truly important, namely OUR children and OUR grandchildren being able to SEA what I, and countless others, have been blessed to SEA every day for the past seven years living in Osterville and Cotuit.  A place where children of all ages lose that meaningless struggle for wealth and fame… instead simply becoming one with the world around them, namely the trees, the flowers, the water, the whales, dolphins, seals, Cardinals, Great Blue Herons, Ospreys, cat birds, chickadees and the like…, picking up a seashell along the way just to remind themselves of where they were, and where they might wish to return someday, providing, of course, WE, don’t mess it all up for them!  We have all of the FACTS in regard to this election in November, just GOOGLE them!, making up our OWN independent minds–for your mind is YOUR own and it is not for sale, please don’t let anybody tell you any differently.  May you have a peaceful week ahead, and may this country and it’s 311 million people real EYES that democracy is still spelled, last time I checked, with that little letter ‘d’!!! Sea you tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Purple Mountains Majesty

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 5:07 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, cool, breezy island of Nantucket, on, perhaps, one of their most glorious summer day(s) yet…  A big shout out to 97.7 ACK.FM who launched the recent radio station of INDEPENDENT minds who happen to like the TRUTH coming out over the airwaves, via real musicians, although, I must admit, I wish y’all had a better radio link to the rest of the world, a.k.a., MORE WATTS!, because DJ’s like D.C., and the rest of that ‘first light show’ ~on Nantucket, or whatever they wish to call it, don’t come along every day of the week… Any, um, hoot-ski, I had nothing else to add, save the fact I apologize for not staying up with this ’stellar’ blog, way down deep from the depths of the Old Town of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’…, I was unavoidably detained. My best to you and yours on this Saturday evening, as I am exhausted from this short ‘vacation from my problems’ (credit the great Bill Murray, and Richard Dreyfus from the classic 1991 film, “What About Bob”, a story where “Bob”, played by Bill Murray, needs to break free of his emotional entanglements before he ‘blows himself up’, a sure cure, for, as Dreyfus, “Dr. Leo Marvin”, explains to him, under no uncertain terms, that he, “Dr. Leo”, plans to blow him to smithereens, for he, “Bob”, simply ‘won’t go away’… When Dreyfus loses all faculties of his senses, “Bob”, becomes a best selling author and brings the whole darn thing full circle…  Check it out tomorrow, should you wish, as it tells a whole lot more about our society today than the crap you will SEA on CNN or FOX! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Rise Above…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:40 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cool, misty, foggy, quite windy and raw island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Monday morning, the fourth day of June, 2012, a very chilly, wet and wild day, again, here in the Old Cape town of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, looking out onto the bay outside of my window of the same name, barely being able to make out the shadowy forms of boats that now fill said harbor, as the fog is as thick as the proverbial pea soup that may be on the White House menu today…  Of course, that is what it looks like on ‘ye ole’ campaign trail as the two candidates, President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney ratchet up the rhetoric to a fever pitch with nothing less than the future of OUR democracy at stake.  A microcosm of that epic battle on November 6th of this year is taking place tomorrow in the great state of Wisconsin, where Scott Walker, the Governor, currently, is being challenged by Tom Barrett, a fine man whose debate performance against the Koch brothers favorite son pretty much spelled out the problem with Walker and his dismantling of unions in that fair state, effectively taking away the rights for workers to organize and have a voice, you know–democracy in ACTION!  It should be interesting as Walker has amassed 12 times as much cash, millions more, most coming from out of state contributions, such as “Americans for Prosperity”, the David and Charles Koch’ ‘grass roots’ super PAC, a group that would like to sea the minimum wage dropped while their chemicals continue to wreak havoc on our environment, for they are not too keen on that whole “regulation” thing, you know, little things like the clean air and water acts put in place in the 1970’s to keep people like them from destroying this bounty of nature WE all share. Have a nice day and week ahead folks and good luck to the people of Wisconsin, Tom Barrett especially…go get ‘em tiger!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Old School

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 12:52 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the wicked , windy, rainy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this soggy east coast day, the second day of June, 2012, coming to you LIVE from the shores of Cotuit, an ‘old school’ kind of town way back when the First Testament of the Bible meant anything, such as ‘thou shall not steal’, or ‘thou shall not kill’, for it was at the turn of the 19th century that this ‘here nation’ began ‘evolving’ into something OUR forefathers envisioned a century or so before the ‘foundation’ of “St. Andrew’s-by-the-sea”, in famous Hyannis Port, home, of course, to the great Kennedy family of a day long gone by, a day where WE seemed to care, perhaps, a little more about our neighbors–their struggles and their trials, not to mention tribulations… So, with a hearty, Happy Week End (thank you Wisconsin Unions of 1889!), I bid you, and, again, yours, a fine farewell, until we meet again, same bat time, same bat channel! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
