The Black Dog 2.0

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:58 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautiful, sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this 31st day of May, 2012, Thursday, a true ‘post card’ of a day here on Cape, with seasonable temperatures, little to no wind, sunny skies and an overall sense that summer has most definitely arrived on these hallowed shores, this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age. Looking above, you SEA the famous “Black Dog”, famous on ‘the Vineyard’ anyway, and around the world now, for her profile has become an icon most know by now, starting from a humble bakery/restaurant in Vineyard Haven way back in 1971, a much simpler time to be sure, to now arguably the symbol of one of the many treasures, Martha’s Vineyard, this ocean paradise offers anyone who may visit this summer. “So come on down, we will, as always, leave the LIGHT on for YA!”… One would be hard pressed to find a better ideal than this most loyal and friendly of canines represents, something I’m sure we all can agree on–and WE, as a collective whole, could use a whole lot more of.  For the campaign for the President of the United States is now on full throttle, with republicans crying foul for those brave enough to call out Mitt Romney on his tenure at the private equity firm of Bain Capital, where he claimed his mantle of a “job creator”, while on the left, jaw dropping astonishment continues with our old pal “The Donald”, i.e. Donald Trump, bringing back to life the question of President Obama’s origin of birth, yes, that’s right folks, the “Birthers” are back, and gaining steam, with even Mitt Romney bowing down to the “king maker”, Donald Duck Trump, whose insane rantings just make this republican presidential hopeful look all that much weaker, missing yet another opportunity to stand up to the NONSENSE that IS Donald Trump and act like the President he most desperately wants to be…  This election is very simple, if you just take a look at the numbers, for Obama brought this country out of the deepest ditch it had been in since the Great Depression, and although the jobless rate is not where WE all would like it to be, at least it is headed in the right direction.  Romney’s plan is simple, revert back to the George W. Bush policies of old, for they really don’t have any new, bright, innovative ideas, unless you consider giving more breaks to the wealthy ‘innovative’, and thus, the mud slinging will continue, with only a few states such as Ohio, Florida, Virginia and perhaps Colorado being the ’swing’ states that will eventually determine the winner of this most pivotal election we have had in decades, for by going back, “Back to the Future” if you will, this nation will see it’s people suffer more than they already have, and we will be stuck in a dirty energy future with no vision, no relief from the poison that comes from ‘fracking’ shale rock for ‘natural gas’, no matter what those horrible Exxon-Mobile advertisements tell you.  This, my friends, is the rub.  The big oil and gas companies want Mitt to win because it will open up new opportunities for them and the few who gain from the exploitation of our water, land and air–profit over people, hence all of that slick Super PAC money that was a gift from the Robert’s court when they made the fateful and full of folly ruling to allow (Citizens United) corporations to donate as much as they wish to campaigns, possibly destroying OUR democracy forever.  This is gearing up to be a David vs. Goliath match up, and we shall SEA if the message of TRUTH and forward, fair movement rings true for the majority of the voting public come November 6th of this year.  Stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel. Have a nice day and remember to be kind, for although it is nice to be important, it is far greater to show compassion and LOVE to thy neighbor than to have your name on everything from skyscrapers to airplanes, apparently believing that someone might forget what a big shot you are!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Yellow Iris reflection…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:18 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the rather cloudy, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the 30th day of May, 2012, a nice, calm, dry start to the seven a.m. hour on this little sand bar, yes, as we all know, created by the Last Great Ice Age over 11,500 years ago…many ask, ‘…hey, Michael, why do you keep bringing up the Last Great Ice Age?’, to wit I normally respond, ‘none of your damn business…’.  I’m just kidding of course, it is because WE, as a species, better enjoy these last few years of ice and snow, for it won’t be long before our planet no longer has any ice left at all, a scary thought, and the energy companies, like Exxon-Mobile, would like ‘you and yours’ to never think about that FACT–’for carbon dioxide is our friend, especially when we spew tens of millions of tons of that crap into our blessed atmosphere DAILY, creating the greenhouse effect of warming the earth’s atmosphere which is causing severe droughts, record heat, massive, much stronger storms and well, to quote our pal Bill Murray from the great 1984 film, “Ghostbusters”, “mass hysteria!!!”…or at least it will in the very near future.  Perhaps, some bright kids like one 17 year old from I believe it is California (kids vs. global warming.com–Alec Loorz; please Google!), can turn on the light in these knucklehead’s collective minds before it is too late.  Such as the much maligned Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker (a hand puppet for “the brothers KOCH”!), who will, god willing, be recalled as the governor of that fine state.  Our prayers at seacapecod.net are with Walker’s opponent in that June 5th special election, where Tom Barrett, a father of four and all round HONEST man going up as the alternative to the clown that IS Walker, is being out spent 25 to one, via the dirty KOCH cash, but, as Marty Beil of Wisconsin stated on some MSNBC show last night, sorry, I was too tired to write it down, “recall the corporate stooge that IS Scott Walker, who cares nothing for the people of Wisconsin, no sir, his interests lie with the bullies of the playground, the big polluters, take a bow David and Charles Koch, for your interference in real people’s lives is someday going to come back to haunt you, trust me,” of course, those are MY words, not Marty’s, but he basically stated the same sentiments as every other person in this country who is fed up with corporate raiders who are not only poisoning our environment forever for their OWN personal wealth, or gain, but are taking away true American rights. Rights and values WE hold dear, such as the right to collectively bargain and have our voices heard, knowing that in the end, that American spirit will out live even the likes of my neighbors here on Cape Cod, right down the street in Osterville, the Koch Brothers, who continue to secretly, although not so secret any more eh boys?, secretly attempt to hijack this nation’s overall cornerstone–the right to VOTE!!!  Shame on YOU!!! For that is what Romney and the rest of the crew over at the ‘office’ hope will happen come November– they hope that people will simply either not turn out at the polls, or, in the case of many minority voters, poor voters, elderly voters and younger voters (students), that their tactic of suppression, under the guise of “voter fraud”, will steal the election away from our fine President Barack Obama (God Forbid), just like they did in 2000 when “W” ‘defeated’ Al Gore, becoming our 43rd President of the United States of America.  A man who brought this country to where it stands today, deeply in debt, mired in controversy and impotent in doing anything good for the common man, woman or child, caring nothing about ‘them’ because they don’t really matter.  ‘They’ are the ‘little people’, as bp’s chairman put so eloquently during his visit to the Gulf last year, a region his horrible company destroyed for generations to come…  So good LUCK Mr. Barrett and God’s speed!!  WE all have your back! Have a nice day folks and remember to tune out FOX NOISE– it makes no real sense and only interferes with your ability to SEA the TRUTH! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Sea Cape Meadow

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:58 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, FOGGY island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Tuesday morning, the 29th day of May, 2012, another naturally air-conditioned day on Cape, as the rest of the nation bakes in record in heat, and as I look out of my window at the ever growing number of boats moored on Cotuit Bay… summer has arrived once again on schedule. Yes sir, Cotuit, that off the beaten track Old Cape town, where truly, “the ocean meets the wood”, bringing nature back big time to many who may, or may not, have forgotten just how important this GIFT of the wilderness is to ALL of US–poor, rich, black, white, gay, straight, woman, man, child or grasshopper, for in the end, what will WE remember?  Not the long days at the office I can assure you, or days spent on Capitol Hill attempting to create special ‘deals’ that only serve a small segment of our overall population, a population of roughly 311 million SOULS who struggle, through no fault of their own, daily to make “ends meet”.  Looking forward to this upcoming short work week, one must consider some facts that no one really does not like to speak of, such as the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria, where women and children, some as young as infants, were shot over the week end at point blank range, innocents executed by unholy ‘men’ whose wish to hold onto ‘power’ supersedes even that most simple directive from the mysterious, living omniscient LORD, creative intelligence, that rules over US all–namely, “THOU SHALL NOT KILL!”. Having come from a decorated military family–via the Air Force Academy–I reflect upon my mother, grandmother and grandfather(s), not to mention a whole host of family Doctors, Lawyers and other pilots, and I think of my real home, Colorado Springs, where I have mixed emotions over this one, knowing that more ‘boots on the ground’ to solve the sickness that IS Syria at this juncture, may be the only way to save more innocents from the bloody regime oozing from the intentions and actions of a horrible dictator, al Assad & company, whose tactics are beginning to look more like Serbia and the atrocities that horrible regime inflicted upon the Bosnian peoples in 1995.  And yet, the other part of this humble reporter sees this increasing beating of the war drums as more partisan horse$hit, designed for political reasons as opposed to humanitarian ones.  If that is the case may God have mercy on their souls, you now know of whom I speak. We have seen our economy take a nose dive over the course of this past decade because of illegal and immoral wars (along with the continuing widening of the Grand Canyon gap between the haves and the have nots in the U.S., via tax breaks, crooked tax codes, and even more crooked banks)– wars such as Vietnam and Iraq, where the “mission” was long ago lost in a fog of political brinkmanship, that did not, in the end, save one life, but did save some precious Senator’s seat at that table of power, power that is waning by the day.  For once in their political lives, can this ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ put the moral compass back where it belongs, stop the madness and the lies that they are going to ‘help’ the American people by slashing social programs in lieu of more U.S. defense spending?  “This isn’t Russia Danny, is this Russia?” (credit Mitt Romney and Chevy Chase from the classic 1980 film, once again, “Caddyshack”), fighting wars that, e.g. Iraq, WE should never have been involved in in the first place, as ‘ole Mitt claims our biggest international ‘foe’ is Mother Russia herself?  Really Mitt?  Is that the best you can come up with?  I think, to quote my friend and yours, Bill Murray from yet another classic, this time in the fine year of 1984, film, “Ghostbusters”“…I’d call that a BIG YES!” Any hoot-ski, my best wishes to you and yours in this next week and fun in the very hot political sun, for mark my words, or those of credible real scientists, climatologists, around the globe, this is going to be one very warm and uncomfortable summer, especially for those who are, and insist on being, standing firmly on the shifting sands that represent the WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

A Flag in the Forest…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:35 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the foggy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you at this seven a.m. hour, the 28th day of May, 2012, “Memorial Day”, round these here parts, taking a moment to note the laying down of the wreath of the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, in Washington D.C., where tens of thousands of men and women have been laid to rest on that MOST sacred soil, bearing witness to their sacrifices and continued spirit of forgiveness for wars that most were never privy or party to, going only on the orders of leaders behind the scenes who sent them into battle, battles that, in some cases, were folly to begin with.  I just got back from the ocean, right here in Cotuit, on Cape, ‘where that ocean meets the wood’, and thought for a moment about what these men and women have sacrificed for OUR freedoms, freedoms we hold so DEAR here in the United States of America.  The biggest, perhaps, being the right to be who YOU really ARE, with no fear, living your life as YOU SEA fit, knowing that the greatest document ever written, namely, the Constitution of the United States of America will always have OUR collective backs.  Regardless of all of the plutocratic NONSENSE that is attempting to hijack that very democracy, democracy with a little letter ‘d’, the spirit of men like John F. Kennedy float high above, a man, who, in World War II, saved four, perhaps five men in the south Pacific, a true hero who became our thirty-fifth President of these here states.  States that should be more UNITED by now, for the stars and stripes of this great land act as a symbol of what is truly GREAT about this country WE all love so dear.  I suppose I could also mention a man, a republican, who, if I had lived in that ‘day and age’ would have signed up for in a heart beat, yes sir!!!… we could speak of Abraham Lincoln, who, after the bloody, horrible war that WAS that most vicious Civil War that began in 1861, a war that took over 500,000 lives as well as bringing an END slavery, yes, we could, and can, speak of him, for it was his thoughtful brilliance, decent candor and gentle kindness that brought this country full circle, and in that fateful year of 1865, that man marked the end to hate with a simple day set aside called ‘Decoration Day’, where most of those ‘decorated’ soldiers were actually former slaves, men and women of ‘color’ whose descendants, in the decades that have since passed, have given more to this nation that WE could have possibly imagined.  Men like those African-Americans who flew high over Germany in that same aforementioned war, WWII, taking missions few others would take, not for the ‘glory’, no ma’am, they took it because they KNEW this country would eventually be that ’shining city on a hill’, devoid of the prejudices of old, having FAITH that somehow, somewhere, things would get better.  And it was with that fighting spirit that the TRUE tyranny of fascism was wiped from the face of the earth forever…and they couldn’t even VOTE! I pray that you and yours take heed at high noon today, taking a moment of silence to remember that what YOU have today is based on what someone else did for YOU years ago. For that, I should think, unless we have all lost our minds, is something WE should ALL be grateful for. May you have a blessed day and keep on keeping on, ’cause no matter how many cynics out there tell you different, this is STILL a beautiful world–strive to be HAPPY! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

A Cape Cod Memorial

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 11:08 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, beautiful, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Memorial Day week end, Sunday, the 27th day of May, 2012, a stunning week end here on the Cape and Islands as you can clearly SEA below you, looking out onto Nantucket Sound and the famous “Figawi” Regatta, a race between different classes of sailboats traversing the roughly 30 nautical miles between Hyannis and Nantucket, or Nantucket to Hyannis depending on your course, I always get that confused, not having a giant yacht in the race, yet–culminating at the fancy Figawi Ball that takes place here on the mainland of the Cape and on Nantucket, a race that marks the traditional ringing in of the summer here on this magical sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age… However, this week end is not all about fun in the sun, BBQ’s, sailing, golfing, biking, or kayaking, no sir, this week end, originally called “Decoration Day” in 1865, after the end of the nation’s worst war, The Civil War, where over 500,000 soldiers from both the Union (the north) and the Confederates (the south) soldiers who fought for the very soul of this great nation, almost splitting it apart forever, yes sir, is dedicated to the men and women who have fought and died for this great country, OUR democracy, and to that, WE should take pause and thank them for their service.  We, as a collective nation, tend to forget our men and women in uniform, as only 1 percent of our 311 million U.S. population participates in the most sacred gift they could give any of US, namely, laying their life out there on the line so that WE may enjoy the freedoms fought so hard for over 236 years ago, with brave men like Paine, Franklin, Jefferson, Adams, Washington, Hamilton, among others, fighting the tyranny that WAS King George III’s overall policy towards the colonies, exploiting them for his own personal wealth and distinction.  As the wars in Iraq, that already ‘ended’, and Afghanistan wind down and the veterans of those foreign wars return home, many are bruised and battered–physically, mentally and spiritually, and many with an invisible disease called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a mental disturbance that leaves the soldier who suffers from it paralyzed with a constant fear and a ‘need’ to be on constant guard, never being able to relax and enjoy the freedoms WE all take for granted.  Many of those soldiers, especially those who don’t get some help from a loving therapist, can’t seem to cope, never getting that help because of STIGMAS that are put in place by commanders in the field, such as some quack general who I will NOT give the satisfaction of uttering his name on this commentary, who recently said of a soldier, only 23, who could not take it anymore, and thus, taking his own life, yes sir, stating with no shame, and I paraphrase only slightly here, “this man was a coward to take his own life..”. What a horrible man.  This “man” knows nothing of what he speaks of, nor do any of the puppet politicians in Washington D.C., save Michelle Obama and Vice President Biden, who along with his wonderful wife, Jill Biden, have made it their mission to help these wounded warriors who suffer needlessly because of fear of some a$$hole general, such as the one aforementioned–shame on that man!–who truly believe that ‘getting help=weakness…HOGWASH!  In my book, “Taking Fog to Nantucket”, I have dedicated an entire chapter to PTSD, still suffering from it as well (more on that in the book), and quote some of the
“The Wounded Platoon” (please Google for more information) warriors from most excellent PBS documentary series called “Frontline”, a special of the same name.  In that chapter, I do my best to lead a horse to water so to speak, hopefully bringing some SOLUTIONS to an easily treatable disorder, rising above the IGNORANT stigmas of the military brass, who send their already exhausted wounded warriors back into battle, such as the man who took his life recently, all drugged up on SSRI’s and Ambien, hoping that band-aid will keep them in the ‘fight’ for a few more tours of ‘duty’, duty in wars that have nothing to do with anything other than keeping the military industrial complex alive and well.  “Hope it’s a wonderful coffee shop Jack” (credit the classic film, circa 1988, “Midnight Run”, starring the great(s) Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin).  On this week end of hopeful reflection, not a passing thought, WE can come to grips with what is important and what is most clearly not, for how can we truly support our troops when we allow generals like the one I keep mentioning to make these men and women who have offered the greatest sacrifice, many still in tortuous pain, to just, ’suck it up, and ‘be a man’… PTSD is very real, trust me, and if we wish to keep on fighting these senseless wars, should WE not care for our men and women in uniform all the way?  Men and women who are putting their lives on the line every day for US?  Men and women who truly do not know for sure if they are going to make it home or not?  Don’t WE owe them more than some passing parade?  Some pat on the back when they do make it “home”?  A home that is many times not there when they return, leaving many homeless and hopelessly addicted to one substance or the other, trying to alleviate the pain they can’t see, like the enemy they were fighting, for it seems like yesterday to them, as WE all move on with our happy-go-lucky lives.  Or, as in the case of the young man whom this blog is dedicated to, coming up with a comprehensive mental health solution to an ongoing and increasing problem of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?  I believe most would agree that is a BIG YES!  The soldiers are not gullible, and general, if I may call you that, please indulge this small experiment–if you say the word ‘grasshopper’ real slow it sounds just like the word ‘gullible’… (credit Amanda Egginson of Cape Cod for that one!).  WE, as a nation, are not gullible, nor complacent to the needs and the deserved care these soldiers EARNED upon coming home from a place 99 percent of US would never set foot near, in or on…  Have a nice week end folks, a little poem perhaps tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Foggy Forest

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:46 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again, sea, I told you so, foggy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Friday morning, the twenty-fifth day of May, 2012, and, if you look above you, you can clearly see the fog that was present only moments ago on fair Cotuit Bay, yes sir, in this quaint little off beat Old Cape Town of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, fog that will, if you look at the bottom of this ‘message in a bottle’, namely seacapecod.net, be gone, like the wind (although not quite yet), as it, like many other things in life, is merely an illusion, a weather phenomenon, ‘nothing to worry about’, a gloom of what is seemingly all around you, yet only a few hundred feet above one’s head is the clear blue sky, a blue sky, last time I checked, that was still blue…and to quote a New York Times advertisement (my favorite kind of ‘tv’) recently, regarding the journalistic excellence over at that fine news paper, “there’s just no debating that”, unless, of course, you are quite insane.  Now, this humble reporter is not suggesting that the republican nominee for the President of the United States has lost his mind, on the contrary, he is, by all accounts, a sane man, a good man, a family man, a man who appreciates trees like the ones you SEA above, a man who has had experience in both the private and the public sectors, succeeding in both, succeeding, of course, depending on one’s perspective of both personal success and the overall word success in the bigger picture, i.e creating health care in this great state of Massachusetts!  But this election cycle’s debate is not about success or the character of either Mitt Romney or President Barack Obama, no sir, this is about scrutinizing the efforts made by BOTH men and focusing like a laser beam on their directives and vision for the future of this grand, proud and beautiful nation WE ALL share–rich, poor, black, white, gay, straight, woman, man, religious (spiritual) or atheist, none of that matters, the central question WE are all grappling with is who can guide US through this fog bank that has surrounded our political narrative and dare I say moral compass for far too long?  For I say unto you this day in May, there is a way out, a distant light if you will, that can bring US to truth, justice and the American way–just ask Superman, “he’ll tell ya, he just bought property on the good side!” (credit the late, great Rodney Dangerfield from the classic 1980 film, “Caddyshack”, also starring another star that was here on earth way to short a period of ‘time’, Mr. Ted Knight, who played Mr. One Percent, the  co-founder of the elite, made up Bushwood Country Club, of which he had a particular problem with an equally successful man in his own right, the wealthy builder Rodney Dangerfield, who although most likely a vicious opponent in the business world, in the end, had a heart, much to the chagrin of “Judge Smails” (Knight) who told Rodney, “I’ll guarantee you’ll never be a member here!”, to which Rodney replied, “…member?, why I was thinking about buying this dump.” Face flush with rage, red as a lobster on a hot summer day right here on Cape Cod, Judge Smails responds, grabbing the throat of old Rodney, “…buy Bushwood?!!!, you!!!, you!!!, (shaking Rodney violently back and forth, quickly broken up by “Ty”, played by the great Chevy Chase and “Dr. Beeper”, imploring some kind of decorum, “gentlemen, gentlemen…”, and as calm is suddenly restored, Knight turns to his doc golf partner, ‘Dr. Beeper’, rationalizing, “…you saw it, you were there, he was trying the choke me,” to wit Rodney turns to “Ty” explaining and exaggerating just a bit, “…he called me an Orangutan, he thinks I’m his wife!”).  You see you can’t have it both ways, gentlemen (for some out there I use that term loosely), on the one hand, you have groups like Karl Rove’s super PAC “Crossroads/GPS” which is not really ‘affiliated’ with the Romney campaign, wink wink, nudge, nudge, (we will try and take that ‘explanation’ at face value for the moment without laughing), OK, so, on this one hand, this group–among many others ‘birthed’ via this monumental folly that defines the Supreme Court’s Citizen United ruling–has put out ads questioning Obama’s loyalty to America, calling into question not only his relationship with the rest of the world and how that equates, somehow, into him being ‘an apologist’, or some other such nonsense, but some even go back to questioning once again, the origin of his birth, subtly suggesting his is an outsider, or worse, a Muslim socialist who wants your guns, “religious freedom”, and your jobs.  The late, great John Belushi (who plays “Jake”) stated it so eloquently in “The Blues Brothers” (circa, again, 1980) … true musicians helping out the nun who raised them, in search of another one of their long, lost band members to ‘get the band back together’… Jake and Elwood dined one fine evening (not by invite) at the high end Chez Paul restaurant in Chicago, where they knew they would find one of their best horn players,“Mr. Fabulous”,  employed as the Maitre d’, with “Jake” stating to an obviously stunned friend who wants them no where near the property, stating, under no uncertain terms, “we’re on a mission from God”, and as the horn player told them “no” without hesitation, “Jake” turns to “Elwood” , who shoves a giant piece of bread in his face while gulping down Champagne out of “the wrong glass sir”…(played by the great Dan Aykroyd), pauses for a moment and slaps the man sitting in the table behind him on the back, startling him, a man who is having dinner with his wife and three daughters, then loudly screaming in his ear (dressed in an all black suit, black tie, black shoes and a black hat, with black sun glasses he is, of course, wearing at night),“we want your women, we want to buy your women, how much for your daughters?  Sell them to me!!  ha, ha, ha, ha…!!!” . Casually turning back to Mr. Fabulous Jake says calmly, “if you say no, if don’t agree to come back and play with the band, my brother Elwood and I will come back and dine here for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week”, to wit the horn player sighed, sat down dejectedly in Belushi’s seat, sitting in defeat, throwing in the proverbial towel, disguised as a cloth napkin, tossing it on the table and simply saying, “you got me, you got me”.  At that Jake and Elwood get up from the table, and just stroll on out the door, leaving the man whose family was just ‘terrorized’ stunned and angry looking for that Maitre d’ who was now sitting right in back of him, the same seat as John, listening to that man screaming at the top of his lungs, obviously very angry at the management, “…sir? sir?! sir?!! SIR!!!!” There have been, of late, many examples of distortions, or blatant lies, put out by the Romney campaign about Obama, (please read 5-24-12 seacapecod.net for more), for we all know the crazy far out on a limb ‘birthers’ led by all kinds of folks, fueled by FOX & ‘friends’ (with friends like those, who needs enemies?) gibberish that puts the ‘n’ in nonsense, red meat nonsense that is gobbled up by the masses, a shrewd move on Crossroads’ behalf, all while claiming foul in regard to this calling out of the GRAND CANYON gap between the haves and the have nots in a nation that was based on the concept of a FAIR SHAKE for ALL, claiming foul that how dare the President go after a company that his rivals have been going after for months now, short term memory problems? (Mitt’s), rivals such as Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman and other old school republicans who cried out regarding Bain Capital as ‘not so good’, this went on for months, debate after debate after debate after debate.  Not only that Mitt, you have a problem with the FACT that it was you sir who brought up your handy work at ‘fixing companies’ in the first place, you know, putting people back to work, a grand old cliched talking point dragged out from the early oh, I don’t know, 1980’s, yes, you are going to do all of that while cutting taxes, again, for the top .001 percent, increase defense spending, cut social programs through the bone (as it has been whittled down to that bare bone already) and destroy our environment forever by allowing the big polluters out there (i.e. Exxon-Mobile, Koch, Chevron, you name it) to continue to spoil this beautiful land of OURS for THEIR damn profit, yes, somehow, with all of that (perhaps with the help of the Keebler Elves?) you are going to bring down our debt, CREATE JOBS (like you did at Bain Capital and the state of Massachusetts as Governor, where you were 47th out of 50 states in job creation.  “Job creation” again, your platform, not made up one by some liberal tree huggin bastard like myself, and navigated the manufacturing sector to shrink by 14 percent, creating how many more jobs?  Is this your plan? Or is the plan to suppress as many votes as possible, smear the fine President we currently have, confuse the public as to the merits of vulture capitalism and ultimately gain the White House by default, is that it? To quote “Carl Spakler”, played by the great Bill Murray in the same great film you must SEA this week end to get in a better mood after all of the horse$hit of this past week, “I think it is…!!!”, going on to say, “…when I have been pushed, I think it’s time we pump about 15,000 gallons of water down ‘der to teach you a little bit of a lesson (talking to the gopher of course)!  The ‘assistant greens-keeper’ Carl (Bill Murray) then picks up an industrial sized professional water hose used on golf courses and other sporting fields and sticks it in the gopher hole, turning the water on full blast…  That, my friends will be the Ad nausea felt around the nation this summer, you were right Cory!, about that, and we are not dumb enough to suggest private equity does not have it’s place in our capitalistic society, on the contrary, the flip side of that coin, “Venture Capitalism” can be a very, very good thing, but more on that later.  The point is, Mitt, you have made the claim that your work in the private sector, again, your words, not ours, ‘created hundreds of thousands of jobs, no wait, tens of thousands of jobs, um, well, at least a thousand jobs?  Will you just accept that?’.  Maybe they did, and maybe they did NOT Mitt, but it is clear you do not want questions regarding any of this.  I know how you must be feeling, I too was in the corporate world, not as ‘high’ as you, but in the game none the less, because it is all a GAME, yes sir, a high standing executive at ‘one juncture’ (credit the great President George H. Bush, truly a good man), and I know what the main function of high finance is--TO MAKE MONEY!. But, if you truly want this job, YOU have to come up with a better plan than cutting more from the revenue stream so that our friends, and I have plenty of them, at the top, get all of the breaks, while those at the bottom, especially, as our friend Jesus once stated, ‘what you do to the least of me, you do unto ME’, get the old heave hoe, the shaft, get screwed, pick your metaphor.  I think that if I were in your shoes, I would take a hard look at that position and reconsider.  Not only for this world, but for the world Jesus speaks of after this one is all said and done, your ultimate reward–Heaven itself. Gold is gold, but the Golden Rule reigns supreme, ‘do unto others as you would have done unto you’.  This humble tree hugger believes that our savior, so to speak, is actually right in front of our very noses, for it is in my brothers and sisters that “we will SEA me”, Jesus once said, seeing truly with real eyes, not the tired eyes of the ego, rather, new eyes that were born of the Holy Spirit, a spirit that is in each and every one of us, making us all truly the children of God, no one better, no one worse, equal in every sense of the word and just as LOVED. Someone once said to me, Michael, you are not special, you may be unique, with certain gifts, etc., but rest assured, you are no better than that boy you see running through the fields of the Masai Mara in Kenya, the largest animal reserve in the world.  When my father said that to me when I visited Kenya on an 18 day Safari, I no longer took notice of their ‘lack of wealth’, as they lived in mud huts, rather, I noticed the broad smiles on their faces, I noticed the peace, love and joy in their eyes, I heard, perhaps for the first time, their true voices as they sang out in the bright sunlight of the savannah, somehow KNOWING that that peace, Love and Joy are God given, not man made, and like another great film made that same aforementioned year, circa 1980, ironically the year Ronald Reagan came into office, named, “The God’s Must Be Crazy”, a film depicting everything going to hell after a Coke bottle fell from the sky one day in a similar African tribal land, well, it makes you think just a little bit, for is this not about the stewardship of this beautiful planet?  Is this not about that next generation?  Leaving this planet just a little better than when we entered it, alone I might add, is the best that one can do and I think we have an obligation to our children and our grandchildren to at least give it a college try, strike that, a college WIN. Have a wonderful Memorial Day week end folks–stay safe, stay strong, stay sane–it’s all an illusion anyway, so why not have some fun!   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Man’s Best Friend

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:42 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again spooky, foggy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Thursday, May 24th, 2012, another dark and ominous morning here on Cape, that is, of course, if you are spooked by the sight of great fog banks that tend to surround that far away island of Nantucket from ‘time to time’ (Fog Happens)…  But of course you’re not!  This is America damn it!  Land of the free and home of the brave!  True enough, yet there is much to fear regarding this warped version of a democratic election in this late year of 2012, don’t ya think? For those of US who do, here are some FACTS regarding Mitt Romney’s claims regarding his powerful opponent in this upcoming November 6th election, an election for the ages as it were, for simultaneously we are seeing the death of the birthplace of democracy, Greece, happening right in front of our very eyes, as the bond vigilantes scrape over the carcass of a once great civilization, some would also say the birthplace of said notion, and as the politicians make up more LIES regarding this fake problem of the massive debt we have incurred, all due to the Cheney/Bush administration, the merry-go-round keeps US spinning around and around in the echo chambers of modern day corporate media outlets that rarely, if ever, bring the whole story, but indeed Cory Booker, making US all real sick to the stomach.  Yes sir, always giving that other viewpoint (as if it were FACT) equal weight, such as in comparing Jeremiah Wright with Bain Capital for starters. This is just one of the top ten LIES, distortions, untruths, whatever you want to call something that just plain does not hold any water, like a hole in a boat, and seacapecod.net is more than happy to oblige on behalf of those who may be fooled by that ever elusive ‘man about town’ (credit the great Gene Wilder and the 1974 classic film, “Young Frankenstein”), I mean the MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN.  For WE have been ordered, by whom no one is quite sure, isn’t that right republican congressman Mike Coffman of the great state of Colorado? where you stated over and over again five times in fact to a reporter from Denver’s great Channel 9 News, “take me to your leader, take me to your leader, take me to your leader…”, well done sir, well done indeed, hilarious in fact!  Author! Author!, yes we have been asked not pay attention to that man, or men, who are holding this country hostage (please Google Stockholm Syndrome, more on that later on in the week), or will be come the end of the year, holding not the wealthy in bondage, no sir, the poorest of the poor, the elderly, the students, the minorities across the board, and the rest of the dying middle class, just ask Cardinal Dolan, Arch Bishop of New York, who has stated he will take services away from those poorest of the poor if the ever dangerous health care drug called ‘the pill’ is made available to those who work under the “Catholic Charities” umbrella, or any Catholic organization such as Notre Dame University, that’s right, contraception, a concept not brought up in the Bible because it had not been invented yet, and was never, save some quack letter from the 1930’s, a problem before, pity that, for that truly IS folly my friend, especially in your business!  But I digress.  For by uncovering the bugs underneath the log, exposing them to the best disinfectant of all, SUNLIGHT, WE shall SEA what WE shall SEA. So without further adieu, here is that list, a partial list to be sure, but I believe WE all will eventually get the point, ’cause, to quote our pal, former President George “W” Bush, “…fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, well, huh, you just can’t get fooled again.” AND ACTION! ‘The lies some presidential candidate once told me on Fox “News”‘… 10.  If “Obamacare” (a concept originally thought up at the republican ‘think’ tank, “The Heritage Foundation” back in the early 90’s), is allowed to continue unabated it will take over half of the government.  9. The President (Obama) is an “appeaser” and an “apologist” to the world and our ‘enemies’ (for the record Obama has never apologized to anyone, and to quote our great President recently, “…ask members of al Qaeda if I am an appeaser or not, they’ll tell you.”) 8. Obama’s experience as a ‘community organizer’ (somehow a bad thing) does not qualify him for the job of President of the United States, only I, Mitt Romney, have been in the “private sector” and know how to pull us out of this recession (by using the same methods as the Cheney/Bush administration, where his proposed budget would increase our debt more than Obama’s proposed Federal spending over the next four years and beyond, by a whole lot!), and having never been in the political arena (of course, you will have that sense of taste you are so famous for to keep quite about the whole Massachusetts governorship of the early part of this twenty-first century won’t you?  Especially that part about me being 47th out of 50 states in JOB CREATION and saw the Bay State’s manufacturing sector shrink by 14 percent…never happened, OK? Got it?  Thank you so much!), and thus, am above the fray of Washington “insider” politics, being able to serve the ‘public’ much better than the man who is plunging us into more debt… 7. Obama’s spending “inferno” during his tenure (credit Mitt Romney) as Commander-in-Chief has dwarfed previous administrations and… (Market Watch.com tells US a much different tale, as they expose real numbers, that don’t LIE, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Obama’s spending inferno is more akin to a pancake, as it has been a level 3.5 trillion over the course of the past 3 and a half years, but what do numbers know, right Mitt?).  6.  Obama’s strict regulations are strangling business in this country, not allowing it to “get back on track”, such as environmental, banking, insurance, you name it, and, that guy  just doesn’t seem “American” enough to me, what about you?  Truth is, regulations contribute at most a .05 percent increase in the price of say a gallon of milk or a gallon of gas, and it, among so many others to choose from is just another red herring the plutocrats of America are trying to force down the throat of the American public.  5.  Mitt Romney would have done a better job of bailing out the auto industry, Detroit, (“Let Detroit go bankrupt”, Mitt Romney), yet, astonishingly and simultaneously, takes credit, saying, and I quote, “I can take a lot of credit for ’saving’ the auto industry”. WOW. Fact is, after the crash of 2008, no one had any money to lend ANYONE, certainly not a failing industry, at the time, such as Detroit, as ‘private equity’ had dried up completely, with the ‘titans’ of Wall Street huddling back in their caves like so many hermit crabs… 4.  Mitt Romney deserves to be President because he ‘created’ jobs at Bain Capital, a vicious private equity firm that stinks to high heaven. Truth stings, does it not? 3.  Romney is a better leader than Obama and will reduce the overall debt, HA! (by, again, I assume his own projected budget, where he will increase defense, cut taxes for those who don’t need their taxes cut, cutting them even more than “NOW”, with every bipartisan, independent analyst stating unequivocally, ‘Romney’s plan would explode the debt by several ‘lengths’ over Obama’s, begging the question, did you understand math when an exec at Bain, and a follow up, if affirmative, can you say fuzzy math for US, please?).  Another question would be, regarding him (Romney) being a better leader and the great ‘reducer’ of our national debt, what the heck fire are you basing all of this nonsense on exactly?  We can’t talk about your Mormon faith, we can’t talk about your dog, we can’t talk about your family or friends, we can’t talk about Bain Capital, we can’t talk about your leadership as the Governor of the great state of Massachusetts, and we can’t talk about the fact you are as transparent as Casper the Ghost, so how do WE know you are a better leader than our great current President Barack Obama?  Where is your true core?  Like the famous tootsie pop sucker, you know, ‘how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?…the world may never know. 2.  Mitt Romney will lead us out of this great recession faster than Obama can, who has ‘failed’ US miserably.  Really?  How?  By increasing defense spending as proposed, while you cut basic social safety nets, creating less economic activity, thereby making it so people don’t have the money any longer to buy basic goods and services, driving down demand, all while creating more wealth, like you did at BAIN, for the uber wealthy?  Any economist worth his or her salt, such as the great Robert Reich of UC Berkeley states on a daily basis–”what we need is more stimulus, not less right now, more revenue SHARING, a fairer tax CODE and less drama over the debt ceiling, a ceiling that was raised dozens of times by then President Ronald Reagan.  Moreover, your lies about US becoming Greece are ludicrous, for WE have the most stable sovereign currency in the world, the best bond bet, and thus, can print as much as we need to boost the economy in the short term, while thinking with logic about the long term debt and our entitlement programs, making spending over austerity the way to go, not the other way around as you would have it, Mitt old buddy, remember a thriving middle class lifts all boats, rich and poor alike, FACT is WE don’t know if that is what you and your handlers really want, a thriving America for ALL.  The big question my friend. 1.  Mitt Romney relates better to the real American people, as he kneels at the alter of Wyoming’s favorite son? Dick Cheney, whose ‘wisdom’ and ‘knowledge’ is something WE really need right now.  Yes, that’s right Mitt, WE need more of that kind of Raging Bull mentality (credit the film and the great Robert De Niro), that will solve this mess we got here in the good ‘ole US of A!  Back to the Future it IS!  (God Forbid).  and cut, print, wrap. I hope y’all enjoyed that installment of Midnight Theater.  If Alfred Hitchcock were alive today, he would most likely say this is going to be one hell of a summer!  Have a nice day! Free Enterprise? Bueller? Anyone?

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:30 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the gloomy, foggy, misty island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the twenty-third day of May, 2012, drying out after a two day soaker, as the Cardinal, Chickadee, Robin, Blue Jay, Belted King Fisher, Great Blue Heron, the Oyster Catcher, the cat bird and the sea crow all wake up and sing their symphonic chorus of nature, day in and day out, reminding this reporter that it’s not all bad. However, having said that, I do believe that some alien force has come down and replaced this ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ collective brains with, as Gene Wilder’s side kick ‘Igor’ (played by the great Marty Feldman) put it in the classic film, circa 1974, “Young Frankenstein”, an “abby normal brain”, one giant, crazy, abnormal brain, a brain that insanely repeats all of the same self serving talking points, over and over again, ad nauseum, out of different mouths, prompting the young Dr. Frankenstein to grab a hold of Igor’s throat, screaming at him, “…are you telling me that we just put an abnormal brain in an 800 pound gorilla? (Citizens United). Is that what you are telling me!!”. In a nutshell, that is what I’m telling you.  This clearly hijacked, Stockholm Syndrome plagued ‘new coke’ republican party is up to no good, and I truly realized this when watching the best news hour on television today (along with Bill Moyers and Company, Sundays on PBS, please Google listings! you won’t be sorry!), “Politics Nation”, with the great Reverend Al Sharpton (who not only talks his talk, but moreover walks his WALK), who spoke on last night’s show to the FACT that FOX “NEWS”‘ attempts every day to paint this great President, Barack Obama, as an “outsider”, an “alien”, “not American”, “against free enterprise” (even though he has brought it up time after time, stating unequivocally that free enterprise is the backbone of our American society and it, free enterprise, is what made this country great), “a socialist”, or worse.  And as these bubble headed bleach blondes over at–take your pick of poisonous shows from the FOX “NEWS” spice rack–continue their mission, via that mean old CEO of FOX, Roger Ailes, a mouthpiece for the “United States of Exxon-Mobile” and their brethren, who care NOTHING for the average man or woman, child living in this great land today, no sir, theirs is the ‘pursuit of profit’, many, if not most of the ‘time’ at the expense of everyone else’s ‘pursuit of happiness’–yes, as these ‘journalistic puppets continue spouting the LIES they spout, the old adage of “George” from Seinfeld comes forth with a very, very bright LIGHT indeed, stating, “it’s not a lie if you believe it.” Of course, taking it to the next level by repeating the LIE over and over again, knowing that many will SEA it to be true!  Thomas Jefferson too, would have been quite nauseated indeed if he lived in this day and age, listening to the hypocrisy coming out of the mouth of a say Sarah Palin, famous wolf hater, who just a few months ago, along with Rick Perry (who should have been the nominee, for he seems as though there is a heart in there somewhere…), Newt Gingrinch, Jon Huntsman (another good man), Rick Santorum and others, stating their ‘concerns’ over at this so called ‘job creation’ at Bain Capital and whether or not Mitt Romney’s tall tale of being a self professed “job creator” actually held any water… (water laced with deadly fracking fluid perhaps), it does not. The facts will bear all of this out in the end, for it is truly a matter of warped and ill guided, not to mention ill intentioned perception versus reality of what IS and what is NOT.  The Heritage Foundation, Crossroads/GPS, Americans for Prosperity, Restore America’s Future, and every other “super” PAC, with their dirty, angry money, to quote my friend Chris Mathews, of “Hardball” (airing every weeknight at 5 p.m., followed up by that great show that feels like you are in church, “Politics Nation”, at six sharp, only, of course, of MSNBC), will continue filling the airwaves (with the hopes of getting as many gullible registered voters to buy their LIE), with a filth almost as bad as the filth pouring out of all those ‘natural gas’ wells that are destroying our water, air and land again, for the profit of monster companies like Exxon-Mobil, whose wealth dwarfs entire sovereign national GDP’s, such as the country of Sweden, filth designed by Machiavellian minds to fool the American people into going back to the social policies of the 1950’s, the environmental policies of the 1970’s, and the economic policies of this past decade (credit Vice President Biden in a speech yesterday), dragging US backwards as opposed to FORWARDS, which is what this election and campaign of President Barack Obama is all about–moving forward, choo! choo!–that and a FAIR SHAKE for ALL.  For it was a mere 236 years ago, a group of brave men signed a Declaration of Independence from the Tyranny coming from their own King, King George the third of England, who ruled over the colonies with an iron fist, demanding taxation without representation, as well as many other restrictive policies.  The way congress is today, unfortunately for the majority of the American people, the only people being “represented” are big corporations, whose lobbyists crawl across the Capitol like so many ants on an ant hill, scrambling around like insects doing their masters bidding, namely to screw over, say it with me Mitch McConnell of Kentucky if you dare, “THE AMERICAN PEOPLE”! Have a nice day. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Cape Cod Yellow Tulip

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:07 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the rainy, foggy, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this wet Tuesday morning, the 22nd day of May, 2012, on Cape, a nice warm day as well, with all of the flowers, lawns, trees, shrubs and other various Cape Cod greenery thanking the rain gods above for this moisture so needed as we get ready for a hot summer of fun in the sun here on little old Cape Cod!  So bring the kids, bring the dog, inside the car preferably, heck, bring anybody you want and visit, for you will find no other place on these shores of America quite like this ‘neck of the woods’, chalk full of the rich history, as well as abundant wildlife, of this great land WE are still fighting to save from our ‘friends’ in private equity firms that create so many jobs around these here parts.  Yes sir! Oh, wait a moment, this just in from the wire services, a memorandum addressed to Cory Booker, the fine, normally, Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, so, I suppose, I will just go ahead and give it to you verbatim, keeping in mind the Champagne was flowing like water in many republican circles after Mr. Booker appeared on “Meet the Press” this past Sunday, as a supposed ’surrogate’, with notes!, for our very fine President Barack Obama who gave a stellar press conference at the NATO summit in Chicago yesterday, explaining to the world that although private equity firms have their place in our overall economy in the U.S., they normally, as their, to borrow a phrase from our pal from Kentucky, Senator Mitch McConnell, ‘number one goal’, is not to “create jobs”, as Mitt Romney would have you believe, originally claiming to have created over 100,000 jobs, scaled significantly down to 10,000, no, on the contrary, private equity firms like Bain Capital are interested in that last word–CAPITAL–and increasing it to the max, and in the case of Bain, that meant Romney and his partners walked away with hundreds of millions of dollars, after plunging the company they were ’saving’ into massive debt, utilized complicated tax loopholes in U.S. bankruptcy law, and layed off thousands of workers, closed plants and left real live U.S. citizens (without a voice), twisting in the ever increasing winds of our times…  Look no further than Bill Black’s book “The Best Way to Rob a Bank is to Own One”, a must read, where he spells out the differences between venture capital and private equity, where Bain fits into that equation, and the overall banking debacle in general–you will be stunned regarding those answers, answers that goes a long way in DIS-crediting Mitt Romney’s platform that because of his ‘business experience’ in the private sector, mostly as a “Job Creator”, really?, he is much better suited to meet the needs of, again, I borrow from ole’ Mitch, “the American People”. All of them.  Wow. That is a stretch.  So, without further adieu, may I present without further political interruption this memo from the Heritage Foundation to Mayor Cory Booker, a love letter of sorts, where republicans now proudly state on various Internet sites, “we stand by Cory”…  And, ACTION! “Dear Mr. Booker, on behalf of private equity firms from around the world, we owe you a debt of gratitude for hauling the GOP’s water on “Meet the Press” this past Sunday.  You helped a great deal in confusing the public regarding the BIG LIE that private equity firms are in the business of creating jobs, not wealth, and helping out our candidate for President, Mitt Romney, to sell his ‘logic’ of having experience as a ‘job creator’ (a good one!), and taking some of the demonetization of private equity in general out of the equation, at least for now.  Even if this only works for a day or so, it helped out a great deal.  The check is in the mail, wink wink, nudge, nudge, and although I too am ‘nauseated’ by these left wing attacks on our bread and butter, namely, ripping off idiot investors, companies, workers and the country in general, your brave contribution to the republican party did not go unnoticed.  You sir are the best darn ’surrogate’ for President Obama we could have asked for.  Of course, you will have the good taste to keep that whole ‘check’ thing out of the media, won’t you?  Again, thank you from all of us here at The Heritage Foundation, we could not be more pleased…”  Sincerely, one of the men behind the curtain. And cut, print, wrap! Have a nice day folks, please keep on dodgin’ those wooden nickles offered up by FOX ‘NEWS’, they may contain over 596 deadly chemicals used in the unregulated FRACKING process of shale rock all over this beautiful country of OURS.  Fracking for ‘natural gas’, the real reason the republicans are fighting so hard, trust me, to win the Executive, as the likes of Exxon-Mobile, Koch Industries and other big polluters continue to make their billions at your family’s expense!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

“Will there be Swans?”…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:33 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the foggy, rainy, warm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on an early Monday morning, the 21st day of May, 2012, LIVE here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, just stepping in from the deck where I was looking out onto the boats slowly gathering numbers in that bay of the same name, a foggy bay with the rain just now developing as I write these words.  Of course, this past week end was one for the record books, in a good way this time, for the sun was out, the air was brisk, and as you can SEA below you, little girls were playing on the beach, a clear sign that summer was indeed just around the corner.  A famous movie, circa 1994, called “When a Man Loves a Woman”, starring Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia, perhaps took this authors heart away forever in a famous scene that showed the father and husband, Andy, talking to his daughter at her school, telling her that he is about to go on a big trip, not his normal job ‘trip’, as they liked to call it, being a commercial airline pilot, no, this was a trip for good.  He was leaving due to problems in a marriage that were beyond his control.  As he choked back tears trying to his communicate with his little girl, who clearly did not understand, being the same age as those girls on Dowses Beach in Osterville again you see below you, a few moments of ‘awkward’ silence passed by, and then the little girl asks, “cat got your tongue?”.  Crying and laughing at the same time, all he could do was shake his head and tell her that he loved her very much and that he was sorry, that it had nothing to do with her and that she and her sister could visit him anytime and he would come and visit them, because, as a pilot, he could get ‘lots of free tickets…’, and then she asked that magical question that could break the meanest politician, lawyer, oil and gas exec, and dare I say even banker, when she simply says, “will there be swans?”. I don’t know about you, but I CARE that people are hurting out there in ‘the good ‘ole US of A’ and it is HIGH time WE all WAKE UP and smell that proverbial coffee, noting in the voting booths this fall as necessary, that the people, ALL the people, especially the ‘little people’, per the directive of the man most in political power today claim to follow and worship, matter a whole lot more than a few wealthy aristocrats who don’t know the price of a gallon of milk.  Moreover, I would hope that some of my wealthy friends would come to understand that if WE keep allowing big polluters continue running rough shod over this beautiful land of ours, from SEA to shining SEA, for their PROFIT, not OURS, that question posed by that little girl to her father might just be a big fat no.  And that my dear readers from around this beautiful world of ours would be the greatest tragedy of ALL.  Have a nice day folks and week ahead, more birds tomorrow, same bat time same bat channel! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Four Seas

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:56 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, beautifully cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on a Sunday morning, the twentieth day of May, 2012, another stellar day on tap for the Cape and islands as WE all here on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age gear up for some famous “Four Seas Ice Cream”, a Centerville creation, some sailing, some golfing, some (more) biking, some kayaking, some bird watching, some star gazing, some exploring, well, I believe you get the picture…so why not come on down and visit US?  We will, as always, leave the LIGHT on for ya!  I am confident that the fine media journalists, the real ones, you know who you are, will give US the TRUTH this Sunday as to who is doing what to whom in the world of American politics, a nasty business if I do say so myself, but, unfortunately, WE must all understand what is at stake here, namely the word democracy and the concept of one man, or one woman, equaling ONE VOTE.  Suppressing the vote as they will try and do in 34 states is not only UN-American, it is immoral and just plain WRONG.  Many men have died on the battle fields defending that right to vote, including African-Americans in the second World War, where they flew dangerous combat missions high above Germany even though they could not voice their own choice to whom they flew those missions for– namely the Commander in Chief, or the President of the United States of America. The choice for who is right for that job should always come from the gut, and if you and yours believe that a man who truly represents only a mere fraction of our population, via his own words, then, well, vote for that man.  Yet, if you find yourself entranced with a man who reads, “Where the Wild Things Are”, at an Easter Egg Roll on the White House lawn with such humanity and grace while making this country better by the day deserves it, along with everything else he brings to the table, i.e. our very fine President Barack Obama, well then, it is pretty much a no brain-er. Food for thought as you digest, “UP, with Chris Hayes”, 8-10 a.m., only on MSNBC, or the equally fine news hour(s), “Melissa Harris-Perry”, from 10-noon, same station, for it IS there you will find out all you need to know to make that intelligent decision come November.  Assuming, of course, your vote has not been suppressed.  Have a wonderful day! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

An Osterville sunrise

Filed under: Blog, Uncategorized — Michael @ 8:02 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the gorgeous, sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be back with you on this Friday morning, the 18th day of May, 2012, a stunning day expected on Cape, as well as the rest of the week end, as the tourists and snow birds alike begin flocking back to the little, tiny, tiny town of Osterville, that you can see above you, East Bay to be specific, yes, that little town that some have coined, “a mini-Palm Beach”, hardly recognizable from the days of ‘yore when the main trade was actually in Oysters (not high end real estate firms, banks and casinos, I mean investment banks), and other pleasures such as hand made yachts from Crosby’s Yacht just down the street overlooking the exclusive Oyster Harbors, where a few friends of mine live during this ‘time’ of year…good to have you back! Well, back in Gotham, and it’s twin sister of Washington D.C., (save the fire and brimstone offered up by the great Vice President Joe Biden campaigning in the equally great state of Ohio, hats off sir!!), the you know what is flying, as some plutocratic billionaires were up to their dirty old tricks, hiring the likes of Fred Davis, an Ad exec who is also “not a witch”, being paid the big bucks, millions, to create a manifesto, or, as Jerry McGuire (Tom Cruise) liked to call it via “SMI”, or ’sports management international’, “a mission statement”. The title to the Joe Rickets mean spirited philosophy (to his credit he rejected?), is fairly self explanatory, “How to defeat President Barack Hussein Obama”, channeling Mitch McConnell?, bringing up the old, tired story of Reverend Wright and hinting strongly of racism, lies and distortions that go far beyond what ‘ole Mitt Romney was complaining about yesterday on ‘the aircraft’, and in a five minute speech he gave upon landing, stating, “I am very disappointed in all of the character assassinations regarding my tenure at the private equity firm of Bain Capital.”  A company whose main goal was to make money for it’s principals, some of its’ investors, all while putting the company they were trying to ’save’ in deep, deep debt, eventually bailing out, leaving thousands without jobs, health benefits or a future while people like Mitt and his pals at Bain grew richer than they could possibly imagine.  Since when is telling the TRUTH about your record, moreover, telling the people you want to vote for you what, how, where and why you did what you did at Bain?  Lying about ‘creating’ thousands of jobs, when, in fact, if you look at the record, the aggregate record, such as Staples, INC., thousands of jobs were lost in and around that mega corporation’s existence, who cut salaries to get lean and mean, again, making money for investors who are in the game–leaving most of their neighbors, the small businesses in and around Staples super stores high and dry, twisting in the wind. This is not a ‘character assassination’ Mitt, these are FACTS, unlike ‘facts’ that you have recently spewed out that you are going to take a bunch of the credit for bailing out Detroit, when only a few months ago you said, “Let Detroit go bankrupt”… Two visions for America indeed Mr. Romney, two visions indeed.  One is for the few, the proud, the plutocrat, and one is for the average working man or woman in a nation that needs to come together to solve some very serious issues, such as tax code reform, banking reform, health care reform (waste, fraud and abuse), climate change, the growing poverty level in this country, voting rights suppression (such as in Florida and Michigan), women’s rights, minority rights, immigration, among others like, I don’t know, clean air, water and land, devoid of deadly chemicals–keeping in mind that President Obama has never, nor would seacapecod.net for that matter, consider you, Mitt, a bad man.  Just a man who made his money in a rigged system where the breaks all go to those on the inside, leaving the average wage earner stagnant (for over forty years now), living day to day, hand to mouth in a pool of uncertainty, fear and doubt.  I am sure that if WE knew a little more about the man, his faith, his true heart regarding those he wishes to govern, as he did in this fine state of Massachusetts, during the years of 2003-2007, well, I think you may get the picture, for it was during that time my home state was ranked 47th in job creation, but did manage to create a fair and good health insurance program that turned out to be the blueprint for the Affordable Care Act (LAW of the LAND), or “Obamacare” as the kids like to call it, begging the question, which Mitt Romney wants to lead this great nation?  For his ‘visions’ seem to be a bit blurry, and go no where, especially when reporters are banned from talking to him unless they have a FOX “NEWS” pin on their press pass.  We shall SEA! Have a wonderful week end folks and enjoy the great out doors, turning off those electric devices if only for a few seconds!!  God speed to Donna Summer as well!  Yet another great entertainer who has left US this young year, far too young, may we all keep in mind that music saves the soul and world for that matter, whereas greed, and ‘the lust for money’ (the real root of ALL evil) destroys it.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the warm, rather cloudy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Tuesday morning, the fifteenth day of May, 2012, another nice one if you like warm zephyr breezes coming off the cool waters of Cotuit Bay, in this old Cape town, off the beaten track, ‘where the ocean meets the wood.’ So much confusion over rather simple FACTS regarding Wall Street and the debacle therein, yet, as always, the media will distort, dilute and dismiss what is really AILING AMERICA, namely the lack of ‘leadership’ from men like CEO Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase (I am sure a good man), who does not seem to grasp that simple concept that GLASS-STEAGALL (1930’s legislation put in place to keep ‘investment banks’ and commercial banks separate, thank you FDR!) was put in place over 80 plus years ago to prevent what will most likely happen again to the ‘investors’ who were gullible enough to put their money in ‘money markets’ where people bet on a daily basis who will win and who will lose. The American People (credit Mitch, ‘our number one goal is to defeat Obama in 2012′, McConnell, R-KY), have been duped by that dark street of ‘WALL’, and thus, are in doubt as to who will bring us out of this madness of Vegas meeting the Hudson, all with the help of FOX “NEWS”, and, therefore, will perhaps make the same mistake they made in 2000, when the voted in “W”, who was another good man, but over his head, for money never sleeps, nor does GREED, and if WE are to reclaim this so called democracy from the few who only care for themselves, then it is high time we stand UP and fight for what is right for the MAJORITY, as opposed to the minority whose wealth now dwarfs entire nations…  Do not be a shrinking violet, KNOW what is happening right in front of your eyes, with REAL EYES this time, and as you do, may WE all come back to reality and become a loving nation once again, a nation, founded on that very same notion--LOVE Of THY NEIGHBOR! Have a wonderful day and keep an ever watchful eye to the sky, for even though, ‘they’ seem to control the weather, via pollutants spewed en masse, it is OUR creator that deems our fate in the end.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the warm, breezy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Monday afternoon, the 14th day of May, 2012, a little late, sorry about that, a day where the inspiration of this nation’s future is fading like stars in an awakening dawn. It is hard to take any of the media in this day for REAL, as the corporate ’scripts’ that are handed down from ‘on high’ are also, like an ice cream cone in the summer sun, melting into one big pot of, for lack of a better word, horse$hit. Mitt Romney is a JOKE, and when he went to Liberty University, ironic name if I have ever heard one, this past week end, to speak about our young folks not ‘understanding’ how the banking elites have RIPPED OFF AMERICA, to the tune of trillions, well, sir, you have made your bed and you will sleep in it. May GOD be with OBAMA in this epic battle over the soul of America, for in the end we all know it is not the money you “make” (i.e. Bain Capital’s Costa Mesa chop shop business model of buying companies, plunging them into debt, only to put good folks out of work for THEIR PROFIT), rather, it IS the LOVE you make. Period. That is what YOUR creator will JUDGE YOU ON!!!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Happy Mother’s Day to ALL!

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:12 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the milky skied island of Nantucket! Great to be back with you on this Sunday morning, the thirteenth day of May, 2012, and a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all around the world, may your day be filled with peace, love, and JOY, for that is what YOU gave to all of us. The tulip you see above is only a mere fraction of the love I feel for my mom who is going through her own trials and tribulations, yet, I know, even though she may be hurting, physically, she has the heart of a WHALE and still had the time to give to me what I needed today most of all, yes, that LOVE that only a MOTHER can give. From Cape Cod to Simsbury, Connecticut, I salute you mom, I love you and I thank you for making ME who I AM today.  I took a road trip yesterday to Boston on perhaps the most beautiful day I have EVER seen in that most brilliant city by the bay, east coast style, hoping against hope to be part of Adam Sandler’s next feature film, “Grownups II“, a funny title no matter how you slice it, as I wait for the film we shot last summer in Osterville, on the cape, “That’s my Boy”, starring the aforementioned Adam, Leighton Meester and the very funny SNL great Andy Samberg, to be released this spring!!!  Make sure you check it out if you want to have some what of a laugh this sizzling summer…  Again, my deepest blessings go out on this day to those women who have so much less than they deserve, and, GOD WILLING, WE all begin to SEA that ‘life’ does not just begin at conception, but goes on throughout our long, hopefully, happy lives—ALL because of a woman known ’round these here parts’ as MOM. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Saint Andrew’s by-the-sea 2.0

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the perhaps most beautiful day Nantucket island has ever seen. Great to be with you on this glorious, marvelous, if I may borrow that phrase, wink wink, nudge, nudge, of a day here on Cape, a Friday, the 11th day of May, 2012, with the temperatures hovering in the crisp 50’s at present, soon to rise into the upper sixties, with plenty of sunshine, a slight refreshing breeze coming off the equally stunning Cotuit Bay, here in the off the beaten track old Cape town of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, yes sir, a day to truly get out there and enjoy God’s true gift to US little human beings, besides each other, the endless mystery and beauty of nature itself, from the Great Blue Heron, to the Osprey, the the Cardinal, the Blue Jay, the coyote, the white tailed deer, the otter, the dolphin, the whale, the sea turtle, the snapping turtle, the bunny rabbit… well, I suppose if that doesn’t get you to come to Cape Cod, perhaps the great restaurants, bars, nightlife, nautical adventures, island hopping, you name it, most certainly will, for it is a magical place that should be seen and moreover experienced before one is too cynical to truly SEA with the eyes of a child once again. Every child in this universe, whether he was, like myself, lucky enough to have attended a private international high school in the wealthy county of Surrey, England, home to Wimbledon and the late, great Princess of Wales, Princess Diana, may she rest in peace, in a little country town of Cobham, only 35 miles south of the grand city of London, or, was born in the mean, gutted, burned down streets of Detroit, where he ran to school in a ghetto that was rife with guns, drugs, thugs, you name it, running to a run down school that held no regard for his future, rather, had only his attendance in mind so that funding would still be available for that crumbling school to remain in business for yet another year, hoping he might LIVE long enough to graduate from said school to attend a University where his student loan just shot up from 3 something percent to well over 6 percent, and then, upon graduating from a ‘for profit school’ that is ‘on line’, ‘guaranteeing some kind of employment (janitorial)’, he is told that he is a bum because he needs food stamps to feed his family that he loses sleep over every night, all because he can’t buy a job in this rigged financial hijacking of a so called democracy.  This is the kind of bullying Mitt Romney and his crony plutocrats have in mind should he, again, God Forbid, gain the White House in the fall.  For the antics so public now about his “leadership” skills in gathering a posse to haze a gay boy (by chasing him down and cutting off his hair) at the prestigious Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (a beautiful town by the way and a fine prep school as well, truly.) when he was roughly 17 years old, a prep school much like the one I attended, would not only have been ‘front page news’ at said institution’s school news paper, but EVERYONE at that small school (my graduating class was 55, as I’m sure his was similar) would have remembered the event, especially a smart guy like Mitt.  Sorry, Mitt, but in the words of Reverend Al Sharpton, ‘we gottcha!.’ Sure, you can wipe that stuff away like it was a ‘prank’, a one time event that would ‘never’ happen again, but take a good look at some of the heartless words Mitt recently said, such as, “Let Detroit go bankrupt…”, or “Planned Parenthood, oh, we’re going to do away with that…”. Do you remember saying that Mitt, or do we stutter?  Your goal is to decimate ALL social safety nets for the poor, take Texas and the the millions of kids who won’t have enough to eat because your party is unwilling to raise taxes by only a small amount on those who are on the opposite side of ‘the least of US’hmmmm, I wonder if all of that is in the First Testament or the New Testament?  I shall get back to you later on that one.  ‘Till then, have a nice week end and please stay tuned, same bat station, same bat channel. Not to be confused with the bat $hit station of FOX “NEWS”, news not fit to feed your dog.  Woof! Sorry Mitt, this country is not going back to the date inscribed on the stone below, ‘my friend’… PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Peaceful Evolution

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:51 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the rainy, warm island of Nantucket! Great to be back with you on this Thursday morning, the 10th day of May, 2012, still raining on Cape, with clearing expected in the afternoon hours, a soaking rain that left many gardeners, land owners, farmers and other foul weather enthusiasts (wildlife of all kinds) very happy indeed… Yesterday, around three eastern here in the U.S., President Barack Obama made history when going on ABC NEWS in an exclusive interview, on record for the whole world to hear, that his ‘evolution’ over the rights of gay men and women to Love, marry and have as many rights as ‘regular’ couples has finally come full circle, agreeing those folks have as many rights as heterosexual couples…  An historic move, especially considering that it is an election year where the stakes of taking any stand on important social issues are so high, none so much as taking the stand on whether a marriage is ‘between a man and a woman’ only, something that was already philosophically shot down by dismissing the whole ‘defense of marriage act’ only a couple of moons ago.  The issue is not whether this contentious modern day dilemma revolves around ‘religious rights’, rights that can be construed in as many ways as their are said religious institutions, rather, it is an issue of Civil Rights, where a Federal government will eventually make it clear that nowhere within the wisdom of OUR U.S. Constitution does it declare ANYTHING about marriage being defined in any way shape or form–historically, it has only been the job of religious organizations that JUDGE it so.  Mark most scholars words, this Evolution, proving Darwin’s theory of Evolution correct once again, will be remembered and carefully documented by historians, said scholars, politicians and pundits alike for decades, remembering that only a few short twenty years ago, then President Bill Clinton signed into law the much maligned “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy for the military that seemed to seep into the public sector as well, a policy that was also recently done away with in congress, allowing our men and women in uniform to serve openly in the military, with no chance of retaliation from the brass.  For far too long gays and lesbians have been discriminated against for who they LOVE, and not the work and overall character they provide day in and day out.  Whether or not this will hurt Obama in November is any one’s guess, but most of the many bright minds in this great country agree that if Romney wants to have this irrelevant social issue on the front burner, like the REAL war on women’s rights, along with his taking credit of the Detroit bailout??… well, then, God Bless America, because he will just prove to all of those on the fence (independents) that not only is he a throw back to the era of the 1950’s and the popular TV show Mad Men, but would probably not tell you his real position until he was in office, when it will be too late to do anything about it. Hats off the President Obama!!! For yet another example of not only his great leadership qualities, but also his courage, courage and integrity that will translate into younger voters, women voters and voters with half a brain to come out in record numbers, KNOWING what is at stake here. A good example of what is at stake here is our buddy and old pal, U.S. Representative extraordinaire from the great state of Texas, Mr. Joe, “I apologize to the CEO of bp for the mean things congress said about your massive f up in the Gulf of Mexico two years ago”, Barton, (who went on “The Martin Bashir Show”, great sea every week day at 3 p.m., eastern, only on MSNBC) gave his answer to why Planned Parenthood should be done away with, a program of vital importance that covers critical medical procedures for poor women in that state and all over the country, millions of them, not to mention the extremely popular and morally correct program of “Meals on Wheels”–a program designed to feed the poorer elderly in that state as well as poor children.  Why he, and the rest of the republican congress with NO HEART, why are they all hell bent on cutting those vital safety net programs, when they could reach a compromise that just might save their collective souls?  Never answering the question, “why can’t we just cut the subsidies for gas and oil companies to ‘pay for it’?”…  Barton’s response: “Ah, well, er, heeeyuck, ummm, er, can someone get me a donut, too early for flap jacks? and do you validate parking?”… Yes, I believe that was his brilliant answer, the perfect example of a bought and paid for stooge of big business ‘running’ our country.  If you like them apples, then by all means, vote Romney in the fall, for he will give you much more than that, lowering tax rates even MORE for the wealthy, while adopting the ‘Ryan’ plan designed to slash Medicaid, Medicare (turning into a bogus ‘voucher’ program that would not even pay for three days in a hospital according to most experts), destroy any semblance of the already faltering Frank-Dodd bill, a bill unfortunately faltering due to vultures on Capitol Hill in the form of lobbyists who work for the big corporate interests that have almost hijacked our democracy forever, hopefully turning into a plutocracy, and finally taking out the EPA and the department of Education for good, leaving our children and grandchildren with a cesspool of a country, with little to no clean drinking water, filthy air and a gutted wilderness so that high priced gated communities can house the .001 percent, hermetically sealed in a bubble of indifference, ignorance and devoid of any compassion for their fellow citizens, let alone their fellow man.  “Let Detroit go bankrupt” was the headline only a few short months ago, and yet now, Mitt, seems to think he had something to do with it’s healthy state today.  Just how stupid do you think the American people ARE Mitt? You seem like a good man, but that good man is being duped by too many strategists who are pulling you in too many directions, asking you to speak out of both sides of your mouth, a move that does not inspire LEADERSHIP nor push a country forward (like our competitors around the industrialized world), into FAIR policies that will pull this country out of a depression that the average man or woman on the streets struggling to make ends meet feel every moment of the long day…for they and their families would say this truly is happening right NOW! All begging the question, “how are you sir, going to bring back jobs to America when you yourself, via Bain Capital here in Boston, shipped many of those jobs overseas, just in order to make a buck?”  The world may never know. Have a great day folks, stay dry and clear of those poisonous wooden nickles offered up by FOX NEWS, ‘news’ that rarely contains any value, nor does it buy any integrity--for integrity is, by definition, the CORE of who and what you ARE! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Cape Cod Color

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:40 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the soon to be rain soaked island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Tuesday morning, the eighth day of May, 2012, a clear moment on Cape, a beautiful sunrise already here and gone, with heavy rains expected a little later on in the afternoon–be careful what you wish for… As the race for the White House kicks off in high gear across this great land of OURS, it has come to my attention, via some of the much appreciated comments made regarding this unique website, seacapecod.net, that my conclusions don’t always add up and perhaps my leaps of FAITH in mankind are a bit misplaced.  How true. “In my defenselessness my innocence lies”. The core reason I write this blog every day, pro bono, is to WAKE UP as many people out there as possible to the policies that have been implemented under the radar for decades now, policies that have hurt the average man or woman, not to mention the children, in a country that should be above that sort of greedy political fervor, a country that fought in two world wars, faced giant civil rights issues, put an end to the communist threat of the Cold War and moved into a leadership role around the world in humanitarian efforts that define the very essence of what this country is really all about.  I sincerely appreciate all of my readers from around the globe and welcome any and all comments, for it is in knowing that one can be wrong from ‘time to time’–being open to critical criticism–that allows one to grow, not only as a writer, but as a human being.  This election in November is pivotal for so many reasons, none so much as the FACT that for far too long now, the top wage earners in this country have had all of the breaks, while the shrinking middle class and working poor have carried most if not all of the burden.  What is worse is the fact our kids are not getting the educations they deserve, to reach that potential in every child, and that is something that will not go unchallenged.  I was lucky enough to have had a father who put me through the University of Vermont and helped me get my first ‘corporate gig’, a ‘gig’ I played in for close to 17 years, finally realizing ‘it’ did not serve either one of us, finally breaking free of those golden handcuffs and taking that leap to become a full time author, blogger, photographer and naturalist.  Hopefully giving back something to a society that has given him so much.  That is what I wish for my friends who are in that top .001 percent bracket, for it is in GIVING that WE truly receive, not the other way around, and if you believe that Mitt Romney is that man who will turn this ship about, after decades of abuse and neglect, than have at it, but, if you believe there may be a better choice, i.e. the very fine President Barack Obama we already have, the first African-American to reach that level of responsibility, then you are as right as rain, because President Obama will not flip or flop on issues so critical to millions of American men, women and children, for he KNOWS what it is like to struggle and what it is like to GIVE BACK to those who need that help the MOST.  Have a wonderful day and may God continue to Bless this FAIR and FINE nation, a nation that has history behind it, a rich and proud history that was not based on a classic line from the film “Jerry McGuire”–show me the money!”… PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Super Cape Moon

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:33 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautiful, sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Monday morning, the 7th day of May, 2012, a spectacular day on Cape, with pure azure skies, mild temperatures and the sense that summer is right around the corner… Looking above you is the ’super moon’ that graced the whole world over the course of the week end, bringing people from L.A. to Rio out in full force to view the magic of a moon the size of, well, for lack of a better cliche, “a pizza pie”, hearkening back to the days of “Moonstruck”, with the incomparable Cher and Nicholas Cage, who brought that moon to our frontal lobes, as the old man in that classic film stated under no uncertain terms to his team of dogs walking the streets of Brooklyn, “…what, are you going to make me wait for it? howl, howl, howl!”…, laughing uncontrollably at his canine pals’ instinct to imitate their wolf brethren, howling at a celestial body that historically has brought much mystery and myth, from the ‘wolfman‘ to the ever changing tides of the oceans of earth that sometimes alter people’s moods and, perhaps, change the course of human history. Of course, I could be completely wrong about the whole thing–being a liberal tree hugger and all.  U.S. politics did not miss a beat, however, over the course of this past week end, with Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama neck and neck in most polls surrounding this epic battle for the soul of this nation, a nation that has seen it’s fair share of division over the course of it’s young 236 years of existence on planet earth.  What is so perplexing about this whole sordid affair of American politics, and the machine of money that was created by the folly of the Supreme Court’s decision in 2010 to allow corporations to donate billions without disclosure, “corporations are people too my friend”, (thanks Citizens United!), is the fact that most American citizens are completely unaware, or asleep to FACTS regarding their own best interests. Take, for example, the FACT that if Mitt Romney were to become this nation’s 45th President, we would most likely go BACKWARDS, “Back to the Future”, if you will, back to the days where this whole downward spiral of the middle and working class began, namely, the advent of the Milton Friedman economic plan via the University of Chicago, ironically, where that VOODOO economic theory of trickle down met no one on the bottom of the food chain, rather, increased the personal wealth of the now infamous .001 percent to levels never seen on these shores, a trend that has proven, via EMPIRICAL numbers, that those top levels of overall income have gone up by 278 percent while the average man or woman in this country has seen his or her wages remain stagnant for over 40 years now, with no where to go but down. This election is a stark choice between what is RIGHT for the majority of American citizens and what is RIGHT for a very few lucky people, people that happened to be in the right place at the right time, i.e., being born with a silver spoon in their mouth with no regard for anyone other than those members of the “BUSHWOOD COUNTRY CLUB” (credit the late great Ted Knight and the classic 1980 film, “Caddyshack”)…  I do not advocate socialism, nor communism for that matter, I only ask that WE, as a nation, begin acting like one, and those who speak of real leadership, stand up on their OWN two feet and WALK their TALK, especially those who speak on behalf of a man who walked this earth over 2012 years ago when he said, “…what you do to the LEAST of US, you do unto ME.” Have a wonderful day and week ahead folks and keep on dodgin’ those wooden nickles offered up by FOX & friends?  They may contain some of the 596 chemicals used in the fracking of ‘natural gas’ that WILL destroy our clean drinking water forever if not properly regulated…  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Out to SEA

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:37 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the warm, inviting, sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Sunday morning, the sixth day of May, 2012, a day to be cherished, as the flowers are all in full bloom, the birds are singing and the dolphins and whales are a swimmin’ on and about this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age, an age that carved this magnificent piece of ‘property’ known ’round these here parts as ‘the Cape and islands’, a special nook of solace in a world that has clearly gone quite insane…  Looking about at the good folks who walk this planet with US everyday, you get the feeling that things could be better if WE all took a good hard look at who WE wish to represent ALL of US, with real eyes, coming to comprehend just how precious ALL of this bounty really IS.  For ALL who make up this so called country of ONE, a country that was founded not upon the ‘Almighty Dollar’, rather upon the concept of Liberty, Justice and that pursuit of Happiness, in a free and FAIR democracy, democracy with that little letter ‘d’, and SEA that what WE, collectively, as a nation truly have to offer the world. In the end, it is not about your bank account, rather, it is about the Love you made–that IS what you will take when all is said and done. Have a nice day.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
