Trigger Happy

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again sunny, calm, cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this glorious Monday morning, the 30th day of April, 2012, another stunner on Cape, with the sun slowly rising over a forest that leads one down the Ancient Path to a little bay nestled in the off the beaten track Old Cape town of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, giving rise to hope for mankind, those aforementioned forests and all the woodland and marine animals WE share this great blue rock called EARTH with day in and day out… Of course, I could be wrong.  The fine MSNBC morning news show, “Morning Joe”, 6-9 a.m., starting with “Way too early, with Willie Geist”, 5:30-6 a.m., eastern, did not have Henry David Thoreau on their minds at the six o’clock hour, no sir, their focus was on the White House Correspondents Dinner, a traditional dinner held in Washington D.C. every year for the press/politicians/celebrities, really all one in the same, this past Saturday night (98th  year in a row now, I think) hosted by that very same ‘lean forward’ pinko station of MSNBC, where Mika, Joe, cast and crew showed clips from the highlights of levity that is so sorely missing in our daily dialogue, forgoing it for the grim ‘news’ of the day, promoted by corporate owned airwaves that saturate US daily with violence, trigger happy drug busts, riots, you name it, while forgetting about the good that IS going on simultaneously, good that wins out in the end.  News that sells, rather than a medium that informs with FACTS, you know, Knowledge and such!  Should that not be the REAL story, media moguls of the world?  Bill Moyers, (whose award winning, wait for it, new show “Bill Moyers and Company”, only on PBS-Sundays-please Google your local listings, truly a MUST SEA), had, as his guest on this past Sunday’s show, Marty Kaplan, Director of USC’s Norman Lear Center, who gave perhaps the most insightful view into what is truly going on in this nation and indeed around the globe, while WE collectively close our eyes to what any five year old can most clearly grasp–namely, the largest corporate entities on planet earth have HIJACKED our democracy, with that little ‘d’, and thus, it is up to US, the citizens of this great land, to take it back, per the directive of our Forefather’s who fought this kind of tyranny 236 years ago.  Marty contends they have done this by brainwashing the public and dumbing it down at the same time–mostly, by turning the news business into the entertainment business, blurring the distinction of what is truly FLUFF and what is truly important, EMPIRICAL information EVERYONE is entitled to in a free and FAIR democracy.  Asking the question of Apple or any other corporate giant, is it fair to rake in huge profits and not pay a FAIR tax rate? Same question applies to you Mr. Romney!  Look to May first, tomorrow, to see the reappearance of the OCCUPY movement, an idea rather than a cause, that will germinate into a REAL grass roots forward leaning ‘agenda’ that serves the MAJORITY of her citizenry rather than only a tiny, very secretive and powerful, group that has abused that privilege by hog tying the congress, the judiciary and attempting the same on the Executive.  Good Luck storming the castle boys! Barefoot in the Park

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:07 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, cool, calm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Sunday morning, the twenty-ninth day of April, 2012, another day to enjoy a walk in the park, a little cool for barefoot, although, being one of them liberal, tree huggin’, latte sippin’, fancy book learnin’, MSNBC a watchin’, kayak lovin’ hippy scumbag, you never know what the day may bring.  I have to admit, I taped the White House Correspondents’ Dinner but from what I’ve heard, it was quite good.  I have been engrossed however, for the past ninety minutes, with one of my favorite shows of the week, the fine news hour(s) of “UP, with Chris Hayes”, Saturday and Sundays 8-10 a.m., followed by my other favorite weekend show, “Melissa Harris-Perry”, or “MHP”, same days, 10-noon, only of course, on that ‘lean forward’ commie station of MSNBC!), where a myriad of always fine guests spoke to the upcoming “May Day”, where OCCUPY will once again rear it’s ‘ugly’ head, ringing TRUISMS revolving around ECONOMIC JUSTICE, not to mention social and environmental Justice, calling for a nation wide strike to put employers on notice that without said work force, and the people who buy the products, your corporation(s) would be out of business.  You see, OUR collective VOICE, demanding a FAIR SHAKE, not a hand out, is the central issue OCCUPY is evolving into. It is no longer right for a select few to gain in a rigged system ALL in their favor, for decades now, taking place in a so called democratic society, democracy with a little letter ‘d’, while millions of people are truly suffering, suffering needlessly.  Many of whom continue, via the slick new activist Judicial legislators that turned corporations into real, live ‘people’, to vote against their own economic and dare I say moral interests. This true LABOR DAY in the U.S., before it was moved to September by I believe President Grover Cleveland, was once a celebration of the American worker and his or her rights.  Those rights and the very unions themselves have devolved over the course of the decades, and so too, at the very same clip, have wages for said worker, whom have now become slaves to the multinational corporate conglomerates in a global plutocratic society, whose overall wealth dwarfs entire nations, i.e. Exxon-Mobile’s net worth more than the entire GDP of Sweden…  More on all of this ‘nonsense’ later.  Meanwhile, enjoy the day, for it was, after all, the unions of our forefathers that created the week end, and it was the Lord above that commanded US all to take a break on at least one day of the week.  A true day of rest. Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautiful, sunny, windy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this brisk Saturday morning, a little late in the day, the 28th day of April, 2012, just returning from a mountain bike ride along the winding roads of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, being nearly knocked to the ground by the fierce gusts coming out of the northeast, screaming off the cold waters of the Atlantic, creating that natural air conditioning WE here on the Cape and islands take for granted from ‘time to time’… Tonight, in case you didn’t hear, is the White House Correspondents Dinner, televised LIVE at 10 p.m., a must SEA if you are into that whole ‘not taking yourself too seriously kind of thing’, bringing the elites of modern day news, political figures, celebrities and others together for a night of taking pot shots at one another, all in good fun, hopefully, making US all that much more aware that in the end WE all put our pants on one leg at a time.  Last year, our fine President, Barack Obama, led the way with hits on ‘the Donald’, Mr. Trump, and his famous ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ show.  The President focused on the fact that the “Omaha Steak Company” was not all that impressed with the managerial style of the “Celebrity’ crew, thus, it was up to said ‘Donald’ to fire not “Meatloaf”, rather, Gary Busey, who is, after all, an easy target and was not even aware of his own firing, let alone being upset about something of which he was unaware…  As the President stated, “it was these kind of decisions that kept me up at night…”. My prayer is that the nation and indeed the world may ‘ENLIGHTEN UP’ just a tad, even if for only a few hours, perhaps seeing the Love behind all of the resentments, misunderstandings, anger and in some cases, outright hate that just does not have a place any longer in this late year of 2012 America… Who knows, maybe we will see Mitt Romney coming forward and stating what he really feels.  Namely, that his blue print for some kind of sane health care in this great land was HIS idea in the first place, a FACT President Obama I’m sure would be happy to concede.  All I can say is this– Jimmy Fallon is a genius (can Jimmy Kimmel can keep up?) and has America’s permission to keep on slinging those Capital One Ads as long as he wishes.  ‘Cause who doesn’t like more money and who does not just LOVE an adorable baby?  Just ask the Romney’s, they’ll tell YA! Have a nice day and evening folks, remembering to tune in to this White House spoof on the whole crazy, madcap, zany routine of covering politics in this early hour of the twenty-first century…  God Bless US ALL! Morning in Hyannis Port

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Friday morning, the twenty-seventh day of April, 2012, another beauty on tap for the Cape and islands as we all gear up for another week end of bike rides, golf, surfing or whatever may float your boat on this fair little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age.  I wonder if that is what Mitt and his ‘team’ up in Boston have in mind?  Doubtful.  The Romney machine will be busy at work trying to ‘pull the wool over the eyes of the American People’ (credit President Abraham Lincoln) once again, just like George W. Bush did when elected in 2000, a man who took a government that was in SURPLUS headlong into debt created by two unpaid for wars, giant tax breaks for the wealthy, a big pharma sweetheart prescription drug plan (unpaid for), and the dismantling of common sense regulations on banks that has created a “moral hazard” by way of being deemed (by special interests groups who run the show on Capitol Hill now) ‘too big to fail’, creating a rigged system that rewards those risk takers, i.e. the casinos of Wall Street, with cheap FED monies, who then bet with those tax payer monies, having no downside whatsoever, another dangerous by product of dismantling “Glass-Steagall” (legislation put forth during the 1930’s to keep investment banks and commercial banks separate) in 1999, leaving the majority in this nation without a pot to piss in.  Yes sir, America!  Where the ‘free market’ has proven itself to be unworthy of OUR Trust, a ‘free market’ that has proved to be anything but, as it leaves most of the 311 million living, breathing human beings who make up most of this here ‘US of A’ high and dry, twisting in the winds of foreclosures and budget cuts that hurt the most vulnerable among US who look at a job situation that looks bleak at best and devastating at worst.  The Romney ‘team’, with the help of American Crossroads (super pac money, thanks Citizens United!), will be busy at work this week end, you betcha, with no time for dilly dallying around with Kayaks and dolphins, no sir, they will be busy at work coming up with new LIES designed to fool that independent, perhaps not too informed, voting block who don’t bother to read all of the fine print, the same fine print that big banks have used to nickle and dime their already hurting customer base with, hoping against hope (literally, as they use the President’s deeds, words and wisdom against him), yes, again, ‘hoping’ it will at least fool enough of the people enough of the time to turn the tide of this election in their general direction.  However, as Vice President Joe Biden stated so well in a great speech yesterday, “the President has a big stick”, and he will wield it in a manner that gently yields results, as in convincing an already skeptical American electorate that to vote for Romney is not only a step back to the Bush era, but far right of that mark, a man who has pledged to do away with Planned Parenthood, the EPA, the department of Education, Medicare as we now know it, the Federal Food Stamp program and Medicaid, just for starters, a man who has been pulled so far to the right of what was once known as the GOP that one would have to define it as the Twilight Zone–dare I say UN-American policies that serve to only help out those who least need OUR help, while taking a giant dump on those who do. Think about it. Have a nice day and week end folks, keeping clear of ‘ole Rupert’s (arrrgggghhhh matie!) wooden nickles, side effects from consuming ANY of News Corps products, such as FOX “NEWS”, include, but are not limited to, nausea, cramps, bloating, tunnel vision, vertigo, delusions of grandeur and a sneaking suspicion one is the King of England.  Ahoy Matie, Ahoy! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again, spectacularly sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Thursday, a late morning, the twenty-sixth day of April, 2012, another gorgeous day on Cape, and if you are one of Mitt Romney’s staff members a day to savor, for it is in the PRESENT WE really have everything in the first place, tomorrow never being promised and like that blank check, never really know what the ‘future’ (markets) will bear, thus, leaving US all in the lurch of doubt and innuendo, doubt and despair that seems to roll right off the tongue of the soon to be silver haired devil known ’round these here parts’ as Willard, “Mitt”, Romney, a man who went up against Teddy Kennedy in 1994 and lost, BIG TIME, for WE, here on Cape anyhow, KNOW who is full of TRUTH and LIGHT and who is full of the proverbial horse$hit WE all endure on the 24/7/365 cable news cycle of channels spinning on into infinity…  Just how stupid do the American People look to you and Crossroads/GPS? WE are all in PAIN, are YOU? Mitt Romney is not a man who can empathize with the pain, nor can he attest to his convictions regarding a man who walked this earth over 2012 years ago. Who could with a Grover Norquist’s gavel hanging over his head?  A man far removed from the man who spoke of kindness to strangers and a deep KNOWING that WE are all ONE, in the end, thus, leaving US empty and devoid of any real HOPE for the FUTURE, a future that could have more benefit for ALL than one may know, if one opens up ones eyes to SEA what is real and what is most clearly NOT.  If MItt Romney wishes to speak of FAIRNESS, then he only need look in the streets, for it is there he will find his ’savior’, the man he claims to follow… Jesus Christ himself. Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, calm, cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Wednesday morning, the 25th day of April, 2012, another show stopper of a day on Cape, if you are into that whole 60 plus degree, sun splashed, little to no wind kind of beach day (with on one around), the perfect kind of day–so come on down and visit US, we will, as always, leave the LIGHT on for ya!  Yesterday, the republican nominee for the highest office in the land, Mitt Romney, solidified that assumption with primary wins in New York, Connecticut, Delaware and some other state no one is paying attention to, whereupon a little later on that evening he gave a ‘victory’ speech blasting our excellent President, employing a Yoda like jujitsu on a national stage using the words FAIRNESS and ‘the American People’ in the same sentence.  The job of republican strategists, such as Karl Rove of American Crossroads and Crossroads/GPS (GOP super pacs), is to confuse the American electorate at large by using their opponents strengths against them, ridiculously stating that President Barack Obama is somehow not the candidate who will bring real fair play into the equation, rather, it is he, Mitt Romney, that will, a neat trick that may just gain a few million of independents out there who are still on the fence as to who is truly working for ALL Americans and who is working for the .001 percent, the plutocrats who wish to bring this country back to the dark ages of the 19th century, where women had little to no rights, minorities were in the back of the bus and the concept of a feudal state of governance is not just another horrible movie trailer for some block buster coming out this summer.  Let US be clear about several issues right off the bat.  Number one, “President” Romney is the poster child of that .001 percent, or, if you please, several hundred individuals who will end up giving 80 percent of the billions that will go into this pivotal election.  Think about that for just one moment.  Do you really believe ‘ole Mitt is going to be FAIR and balanced, like his favorite news station FOX claims to be?  If you consider destroying our social safety nets, the department of education, critical women’s health programs such as Planned Parenthood, Wall Street reform (Dodd-Frank), the EPA (allowing big corporate polluters to continue raping and pillaging our natural resources for their PROFIT, while people by the score get sick and die, not to mention the abundant wildlife and plant life that adorns this great nation), head start for kids, ah, the list goes on infinitum, yes, if you consider all of that ‘fair play’, then Mitt is most definitely your man.  It stands to reason though.  For here in this day and age of greed, deception, fraud and a five minute attention spans, a candidate who flashes a resume (a private equity shark) like Romney’s will play well to those already wealthy, as well as those on the fence who watch propaganda ‘news’ stations like FOX; taking US back to the economic and international policies of then President George W. Bush–who ran this country into the ground–while our boys and girls in uniform bled on the streets of Baghdad and Kabul, fighting wars that made and make no sense for anyone involved…  Make no mistake about this slick republican offering, for Madison Avenue wizards are hard at work trying to pull that wool over ‘all of the people’s eyes’, and they will stop at nothing in this epic power struggle for controlling this nations’ vision for the future, leaving TRUTH at the door as they LIE and cheat to get what they really want–cheap labor, no regulations, and forced birth all in a rigged system from the Supreme Court, to the Congress and now, to the Executive, effectively putting that stake deep within the chest cavity of ‘the American People’; destroying the experiment of democracy with a little ‘d’ forever (credit Mitch, ‘are you sure you want to be a late night comic?’, McConnell, R-KY), leaving 311 million souls, less several thousand plutocrats, that much poorer, that much more confused and that much more disillusioned, as they, the .001 percent, laugh all the way to the bank, a bank they OWN as well.  Something stinks in Denmark alright and it is not that very likable President Barack Obama who visited the University of Colorado yesterday, visiting some of my old haunts, such as famous CU bar on ‘the hill’, ‘The Sink’, where a group of America’s future leaders make up their own minds about who champions FAIRNESS for all (in his heart) and who is full of proverbial, plutocratic horse$hit! Have a nice day folks and keep on dodging those wooden nickles offered from the likes of Rupert Murdoch’s, ‘arrrrghhhh matie’, News Corporation, an organization that prides itself on bribery, phone hacking and political manipulation of the highest order!   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, cool, gorgeous island of Nantucket! Great to be back with you on a Tuesday morning, the twenty-fourth day of April, 2012, a spectacular day on Cape after a two inch soak yesterday left the flowers, trees and woodland creatures of this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age smiling and satisfied, as southern New England has been in drought for most of this year thus far…  What happened while I was sleeping?  Not much?  Good. I did not want to talk about politics today anyhow, because WE all know Mitt Romney would do such a better job as President of the United States than our very fine current President in Barack Obama. I must say, it is far easier to be on the side of the corporate milieu, while doing their bidding, than to be on the true side of the American people, and so it will go for the next seven months or so; the way, way, way far to the right of your grandfather’s GOP continuing to pour out the propaganda, trying to convince independents who will determine the results of this pivotal election that they, crazies like Grover Norquist and the like, are the only ‘hope’ for America’s future.  Begging the question, what America and what future??  Ah yes, Paris in springtime, I remember….  I too have been to Paris, in fact, I attended high school in London and took frequent trips, “ISST” tournaments, or ‘international school sports tournaments’, to that city of LIGHTS and I must agree with ‘ole Mitt on this one–France is perhaps one of the most beautiful places on all of planet earth, especially the gardens, and after Mitt loses the election on November the sixth of this year, he can really go back to his roots as a Mormon missionary, spreading the good word of the Lord to all who may listen, speaking to what Jesus himself considered the greatest ’suggestion’ of all–namely doing to others as you would have done to you, the real golden rule. For, “…what you do to the least of me, you do UNTO ME”, and I am not really sure how this Christian nation of billionaire plutocrats squares that with his or her maker in the end.  There must be some kind of loophole or something, I didn’t get the memo.  Have a nice day folks and week ahead, remembering the power of nature and the awesome beauty inherent within. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Earth Day on Cape

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 11:13 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the foggy, rainy, warm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Sunday morning, the twenty-second day of April, 2012, EARTH DAY around these here parts and indeed all around the world.  A day set aside by the corporate energy moguls to promote a brand new, renewable based green philosophy that addresses ALL of the most pressing issues mankind faces today–7 billion people living on this fragile and ever increasingly  polluted planet, yes, that WE all live upon ‘at this juncture’, oh wait a moment, this just in, apparently EARTH DAY is not a day that was initially set aside by the big corporate oil and gas companies as I was led to believe, on the contrary, this day was, is and will be again, set aside by the good ‘little people’ of the planet earth, who sea “…this time we are here on earth is not just about US, it’s also about our stewardship of what we’ve been given.” A quote taken directly out of Ted Danson’s great book, “Oceana”, a fantastic journey into our world’s oceans and a critical review of the detrimental effects pollution, over fishing, and more are doing on a daily basis to the most important ‘body of water’, so to speak, in all of our lives today.  A book I would highly recommend to anyone interested, even mildly, in our world’s overall state of health, i.e. THE ENVIRONMENT!  “Living Blue” is one of the final themes in the great work, and the following is a ‘top ten’ list of everyday ordinary things you and yours can do to be on the right side of history, making lifestyle CHOICES that ‘can help preserve the oceans for ourselves and for generations to come…’, enjoy and please pass on! (suggestions taken from “Oceana”, by Ted Danson, pages 271-272).  1.  Join a group that supports oceans, such as Oceana, ‘where they really get things done’, find out more at www.oceana.org. 2. Vote responsibly.  Contact your representatives.  Electing the RIGHT public officials is essential to having good ocean policy.  Exercise your right to vote, and stay involved after Election Day.   3.  Eat sustainable seafood.  Global fisheries are on the verge of collapse.  According the the FAO, 80 percent of the world’s fisheries are now over exploited, or fully exploited, carry a Seafood Watch card that identifies your best choices for sustainability, good alternatives, and which fish to avoid eating altogether, i.e. some of the fish from the GULF!  4. Reduce energy use.  Carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels is making our oceans more acidic.  One consequence could be the loss of corrals on a global scale, as their calcium skeletons are destroyed by the increasing acidity in the water.  Here are some examples of using less energy, less is more as it were–drive a hybrid or electric car, maintain your vehicle properly, especially tire inflation, use mass transit, support the installation of light-rail systems, use a bike whenever you can (the health benefits are a bonus), combine errands to reduce trips, install a programmable thermostat in your house, set your thermometer a few degrees higher in the summer and lower in the winter, turn off appliances when they are not in use, switch to more efficient lighting, such as compact fluorescent lightbulbs in your house, shop local farmer’s markets for produce, cheese, meat, and other edible goods to create a robust marketplace for food that travels fewer miles, which conserves fossil fuels and reduces packaging, cut down on the number of leisure air travel trips you take each year.  Try a ‘’stay-cation’, such as a local hiking trip with family and good friends.  5. Use reusable plastic products.  Plastic debris in the oceans degrades marine habitats and contributes to the deaths of many marine animals.  Because floating plastic often resembles food to many marine birds, sea turtles, and marine mammals, they can choke or starve because their digestive systems get blocked when they eat it.  Help prevent these unnecessary deaths.  Do not buy bottled water–use renewable water bottles.  Use reusable cloth bags for shopping.  6.  Properly dispose of hazardous materials. Motor oil and other hazardous materials often end up washing into coastal areas because they aren’t disposed of properly.  7.  Use less fertilizer. When fertilizers are used in gardening and agriculture, the excess eventually ends up in the ocean.  One result (such as what happened in the Gulf of Mexico with spilled oil) is a ‘dead zone’–an area with very low levels of oxygen in the water. Since all marine life, including fish and shrimp, requires oxygen to live, creatures must flee the area or die.  8.  Pick up litter on beaches.  Much of the plastic and debris found in the oceans is first discarded on the beach.  Don’t let your day at the beach contribute to the destruction of our oceans.  9. Buy ocean friendly products.  Avoid products produced using unsustainable or environmentally harmful methods.  For example, avoid cosmetics containing shark squalene and jewelry made of coral or sea turtle shell.  These products are directly linked to unsustainable fishing methods and the destruction of entire ecosystems. 10.  Share what you have learned.  Spread the word, via Facebook or Twitter about ongoing issues.  Don’t lecture (like me), but look for opportunities to share interesting information and fun facts about the oceans with family and friends, especially when you’re at the beach or near the sea.  We’re learning in so many ways that we–human beings–can’t reengineer this planet, that it’s not here as a limitless resource for us to mine, log, drill, hunt, and fish to our hearts’ content.  Mr. Danson concludes with, “…Probably the most important lesson we’ve learned is that everything is connected. The things we do to harm the oceans harm so many other things by extension, like ripples that spread when a stone hits the surface of the water.  The same goes for the things we do to help. Never feel like the problem is too large to be fixed.  And never believe that one person is too small to make a difference.  Everything connects. Everyone matters. And each of us can learn to LIVE BLUE!”. Have a wonderful earth day and earth year folks, God bless us everyone and every’thing’… PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Big Blue

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the foggy, warm, misty island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, the 21st day of April, 2012, a cloud covered day on Cape, after a spectacular day of sun splashed sand yesterday.  Coming to you LIVE from Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, taking a break from the best news sources on television today, namely MSNBC’s “UP, with Chris Hayes” (8-10 a.m., both weekend mornings) and “Melissa Harris-Perry” (10 a.m.-noon); both fine must sea shows bringing to LIGHT the state of our environment on this anniversary of the bp Deep Water Horizon disaster that spilled over 250 million gallons, with many others claiming the truer number, 500 million, of raw crude into the pristine waters of the Gulf region two years ago yesterday–killing massive amounts of wildlife, from the basic one celled animals that begin the food chain, all the way up to Bottle nose Dolphins, sea turtles and Brown Pelicans who are in fair to poor condition as I write these words.  That oil that was swept under the rug by irresponsible oil and gas corporations has not gone away, on the contrary, the mixture of that oil and the banned from the U.K. chemical dispersant, Corexit 3500, designed to ‘disperse’ said toxic oil by sinking it, has appeared on beaches from Destin to Baton Rouge, making people very, very sick.   The two year old spill has, contrary to the horrible bp advertisements telling US otherwise, made it’s mark on history as the worst oil spill EVER on this little blue rock we all call ‘home’ for the time being.  Bp settled yesterday with a 7.8 billion dollar figure, a figure that is well below conservative estimates of 63 billion in losses, losses by way of restaurants that have closed permanently because as one local restaurant owner said only a few moments ago on “MHP”, “…the fish are dead and the beaches are filled with oil.” A far cry from the rose colored glasses rhetoric coming from the mouths of corporate stooges who could not care less about ‘the little people’ of the Gulf region, who are again, having some very serious health problems due to the toxic sludge left behind by perhaps the most immoral business practice on planet earth today–the OIL and GAS industry. Coming to a neighborhood near you soon, (FRACKING), coming there to make sure their ‘product’, namely a chemical cocktail from hell, will kill you before you can say boo! to these monsters.  According to Doug Inkely of the National Wildlife Federation, “…we need to RESTORE THE GULF, via a bill stalled in congress, as well as look into the non-existent changes that have been made to make sure this kind of horror show doesn’t happen again, i.e. looking into the blowout preventers that still fail 50 percent of the time, now failing in ever deeper water, twice the 5000 foot deep bp dig only two short years ago!   Not one head has rolled in this disgrace to our nation… This whole sordid affair is a crime against humanity, period.  This complete disregard for the TRUTH, not to mention people and the beautiful animals we share this earth with, is abhorrent and the history books, years from now, will depict it as such.  But that does not help out the poor folks today who have been jacked by bp, as new book after book, movie after movie will EXPOSE these modern day oily, slick, Robber Barons of black gold for who and what they are and what they represent–GREED, e.g., profit over people.  Two such works are the new HBO film, “The Big Fix”, a must SEA if you have the stomach for it, as well as “Black Tide”, by Antonia Juhasz, a great work that covers that basic human element not normally covered by the typical corporate media, an element that does change things (eventually) for the better.  The deaths of over 500 beautiful dolphins and all of those gorgeous sea turtles ought to spur you to anger, it does this cowboy. Perhaps if we, during this EARTH DAY celebration world wide on Sunday, begin to open our eyes and more importantly our mouths, maybe, just maybe, some miracle will transpire and WE can create a world where this sort of insanity does not happen every twenty years, repeating the definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results) for all the world to see.  For it was only a short 23 years ago, the Exxon Valdez’s famous spill in Alaska virtually wiped out many species indigenous to the region, not to mention the people who made a living fishing that God given source of a living, such as the Mackerel and many others… and so it goes. The big corporate polluters, signed sealed and delivered by men running for President who will go unnamed at ‘this juncture’, will continue to rape and pillage our land, sea and air for their benefit until WE THE PEOPLE take that power back and say, NOT IN MY BACKYARD!  A move I am sure the ghosts of our Forefathers’ would not only champion, but perhaps help in some kind of a cosmic way–stranger things have happened. Have a nice day folks and more on all of the fancy book learnin’ , liberal, tree huggin’, climate stuff tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel, not to be confused with the bat $hit station of FOX “NEWS”, you know that channel where the “bubble headed bleach blonde comes on at five, telling you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye…” (credit Don Henley and the rock band known as the Eagles, an accurate parody of the news industry then and now, with song entitled, appropriately, “Dirty Laundry”).  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again, sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Friday morning, the twentieth day of April, 2012, another stunningly gorgeous day outside on Cape, with seasonable temperatures, no wind and plenty of sunshine, ’so come on down, we will, as always, leave the LIGHT on for ya!’… Plenty to talk about today, but, because it is such an amazing day out of doors, you know, with the wilderness calling and all, I think I will leave all of that in the capable hands of journalists such as Alex Wagner of MSNBC’s “NOW”, high noon every week day, for it is there–along with some other stellar MSNBC shows, such as “The Rachel Maddow Show”, airing every week night at 9 p.m., eastern–these fine reporters bring the TRUTH to the people, even if the ratings are not as high as on FOX where the ‘fair and balanced’ approach to the most pressing issues of the day for 99 percent of the American people are inevitably pushed off to the side, usually in favor of some new casserole dish being served up by an L.A. ‘celebrity’ chef.  Give US a break. The only thing FOX “NEWS” is good for is to make one grateful one does not really believe all of that propaganda in the first place.  Have a nice day and week end folks, hopefully keeping in mind one thing; six simple words written over 500 years ago by one of mankind’s greatest authors, William Shakespeare, “…to thy known self be true.” Words that truly will set one free, if one can actually be honest with oneself, especially when in the voting booth armed with FACTS as opposed to outright LIES.   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Leader of the Band

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 2:36 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Thursday afternoon, sorry about that, the nineteenth day of April, 2012, another stunningly beautiful day on Cape, as America and indeed the world bids farewell to yet another iconic figure in the world of music who has passed away this year, Dick Clark, who died of an a massive heart attack yesterday morning at a Santa Monica hospital at the age of 82.  Beginning with his birth in 1929 in the little town of Mount Vernon, New York, where his father was a radio man, mother a homemaker, it did not take long after graduating Syracuse University for young Richard to jump head first into that world of radio never looking back…and what a ride it has been–for all of US.  In 1956, the eternal teenager began hosting “American Bandstand”, a real tour de force that invaded living rooms, high school auditoriums and the air itself for decades, rocketing many a star to their fame and fortune all thanks to Dick Clark and his LOVE for music of all stripes.  His “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Ever” began in 1972, and along with a fantastically successful business career in everything from the 100,000 dollar pyramid to “TV Bloopers and practical jokes”, Mr. Clark also enjoyed the LOVE of everyone around him, always humble and always NICE.  A fine recipe for any human being, especially in this day and age.  He will be missed, for he represented what is still good in this great nation, realizing at a young age what music can do for and to the soul–peace through music if you will, rockin’ the night away!! God’s speed dear sir American Bandstand Leader, God Speed~! Have a nice day folks and keep on dodgin’ those wooden nickles offered up by the ‘fair and balanced’ FOX NEWS, ’cause ya know if a guy like Mitt Romney thinks that horrible station is fair and balanced, you know, by definition, that it is most certainly the opposite.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Shuttle Salute

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:03 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, windy, brisk island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Wednesday morning here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, the eighteenth day of April, 2012, a glorious, marvelous day, if I may use such colorful adjectives, on Cape, a far cry from yesterday; refreshing northeasterly winds usher in some natural ‘air conditioning’ from the cool waters just outside of my window…  Yesterday, around the 11 a.m. hour on the east coast, the Space Shuttle “Discovery” took it’s last flight up that east coast, piggy backed on a jumbo jet named “Pluto 98″, making it’s way to OUR nation’s Capitol, Washington D.C., where it would eventually find it’s new home in the Smithsonian Museum where visitors from around the world will be able to marvel at it’s 39 missions up close and personal on April 19th, 2012–clocking 149 million miles in space (equivalent to one continuous year in orbit), with ‘ner a mishap.  Before it did that however, spectators, I mean law makers, from the ‘non partisan’ Capitol Hill to those citizens on roof tops were treated to what most pilots refer to as a ‘fly by’, Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun” style if you will, flying low with landing gear up, something one rarely sees in this modern day world of robot like auto pilot, as it almost hovered, in slow motion, over the National Mall, cruising only a few hundred feet above the beloved Jefferson, MLK, Lincoln and Washington memorial/monuments, marking the bittersweet end of an era, literally closing the chapter on a quarter of a century of space travel that began with the Shuttle’s first lift off in 1984, with this same space ship known around the globe as “Discovery”, all under the backdrop of an uncertain future for NASA and all of the wonderful people who make up that inspirational organization.  A few of the astronauts interviewed in a story that sadly gained little to no public attention, stated on the only cable stations seemingly covering said historic event (MSNBC and CNN), “…it was a bittersweet moment, for this ‘champ’ flew those 39 missions without incident and allowed our earthbound (sometimes) collective mind to ‘discover’ new heights, pushing mankind’s pioneering spirit to a whole new level, creating the International Space Station, allowing for that spirit to continue it’s never ending quest to unlock the mysteries of the universe…”.  We, here at seacapecod.net salute all of the astronauts over the years, from Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong (“…that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”), of Apollo 11 fame, touching down on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969, to the final shuttle to be decommissioned, the “Enterprise”, later on this week. Their efforts have inspired kids of all ages from around the world to become more interested in not only this world, and all the elements that make it up, but worlds that are beyond even our imaginations, bringing the science fiction television series of Star Trek alive, ever reminding ourselves, “to boldly go where no man has gone before…”. To quote “James T. Kirk” commenting on his first encounter with “Spock”, speaking to the Enterprise’s on board physician, “Bones”, “…who was the pointed eared bastard?”  “I don’t know, but I don’t like him…”. Have a nice day folks and remember that peace, joy and LOVE are yours by birthright, and no joke of a politician can take that away from you or yours, EVER!… PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again, dry, sunny, warm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you as always, coming to you LIVE from the shores of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, on a gorgeous April 17th seven a.m. hour in this year of our Lord 2012.  Another dry, almost hot, for this ‘time’ of year, day in southern New England, who is at least seven inches behind it’s annual rainfall average, hoping against hope we see some moisture soon… Yesterday, on the floor of the U.S. Senate, the ‘Buffet Bill’ (a bill proposed to increase taxes on those making over a million dollars per year, a bill designed via Billionaire/humanitarian Warren Buffet who, like most in the one percent, pay something around 13 percent in federal income taxes, as opposed to the 30 percent most truck drivers, secretaries and nurses pay) was shot down, leaving the question on every one’s mind still left unanswered, ‘if these so called fiscal conservatives wish to tackle the 15 trillion dollar deficit, most of which came from the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, still in effect, even though they were meant to be temporary, not to mention the illegal war in Iraq, and the debacle in Afghanistan, and the prescription drug give away, and…’, oh, let’s just forget about the whole thing.  Mitt Romney is a businessman, not a leader of the free world, a part of the mystery mad men clan from the 1950’s who is here to ‘lead America’ into an Oligarchy to come, where only a few rich white guys make all of the decisions for this so called ‘democracy’, as they watch the ‘culture wars’ from the comfort of their 35,000 foot ocean view luxury home, laughing at the likes of a Rachel Maddow (congratulations on her New York Times best seller, two weeks in a row, a must read book entitled…“Drift”), or an Ed Shultz who are trying like heck fire to WAKE the American electorate up to what is really going down. “…We’re are in a crisis here”, says late night comic Mitch, ‘the mouse’, McConnell (R-KY), famous for his deep concern over the plight of said, ad nauseum, ‘the American people’, and thinks this basic first step towards tax FAIRNESS was a “political gimmick”, but the Paul Ryan (R-WI) slash and burn budget is not, a budget designed to decimate the social safety net in this country forever, leaving millions ‘out in the cold’.  No, that is most certainly not a gimmick, but it IS a giveaway to the already very well off one percent in a nation that helped them get there, for if ‘ole Mitt had been born in any other country but the United States of America, he would not have made all of that ‘hard earned money’ (buying companies in trouble, then firing all the people and selling off the assets one by one, kind of like his plan for America, making a killing as he then hides away in his two, count them, two Swiss Bank accounts from everyone save his wife–no wonder he’s a bit shy about his taxes…), and just might have evolved into a more compassionate person who actually cared, even if it were just a little white lie, about the REAL plight of ‘the little people’ (credit the CEO of bp) he intends to govern.  Govern like a King that is.  It is the American people’s right to know a little more about what this guy is truly up to and the savvy 2012 “elite, subway ridin’, latte sippen’, fancy book learnin’”, media will, eventually, bring all of this to Light–the stakes are just too high for responsible journalists, who are American citizens too, to do anything different.  One Voice is all it takes, and thus, that Light will shine forth, even with all of the dark clouds of deceit, hate, paranoia and lies thrown up by Karl Rove and company’s ‘American Crossroads’, or that horrible ‘Crossroads/GPS’.  A ‘global positioning system’ we know is full of horse$hit when the first letter of that acronym stands for ‘grassroots’… grassroots?  Really?  How many Fortune 100 CEO’s do you think are ‘part’ of any imagined definition of that word ‘grassroots’?  If you answered O, ding! ding! ding! ding! you just won a billion bucks! Congratulations! Where are you off to next Mr. Mosier?  Disneyland! You Betcha! Hey Mitch, here’s an idea, after you take your other foot out of your mouth, why not jump in your k street sports car and drive around Lexington for a few hours around dinner time, you know, by the Jesus Saves homeless shelter you shield your eyes from every day on the way to work–see what you see with real eyes, if you dare!   There you shall SEA the Real crisis’ unfolding right before those eyes; families in dire financial straights, crumbling schools and infrastructure, with no hope on the horizon, just more of the same plutocratic nonsense that is taking this country down a path never intended by men FAR wiser than your sorry, well, I believe y’all get my point.  Blessed be the bees, for if they go we are ALL in big trouble–bee cause you just can’t eat hot air!   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, warm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Monday morning on the east coast, the 16th day of April, 2012, Cotuit to be precise, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, an off the beaten track old Cape town (filthy, liberal, hippy, tree huggin’ hangout truth be told), where the ‘old world shadows (still) hang heavy in the air’ (credit Don Henley and the great rock band, ‘The Eagles’).  It will be a hot one in the old town of Boston today, as well as New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C., temperatures soaring close to ninety degrees in the middle of April, while Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin get ready to deal with more severe weather in the form of deadly tornadoes that have ravaged much of the middle and southern portions of the United States in this young year of 2012 already, with yesterday’s midnight Oklahoma twister taking five lives–yet another real life example of just what global warming looks, sounds and feels like. This “new normal” (for lack of a better cliche), whatever you position on the subject of this global weather phenomenon gone wild might be, is changing all of our lives whether WE acknowledge ‘it’ or whether we stick our heads in the proverbial sands, like our pal the Ostrich, who does this when some perceived danger is present or approaching, hoping ‘it’ will just go away and prove the flightless bird right all along.  Hell, it worked with ‘Reaganomics’ did it not?  Speaking of the man who would not be elected into congress today (at least as a republican), let alone vaulting into the Presidency of the United States of America, the core element of this contentious upcoming election will be not whether Ann Romney ever ‘worked a day in her life’, but whether or not the American People (not late night comic sensation Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) FOX talking points definition of said ‘the American People’, no, the bulk of this nation, the 99 percent), wake up in time to see who will take US forward and who will most assuredly take US back, back well before Ronald Reagan ever thought about becoming the corporate right’s poster child. “A Fair Shake” is what the American people deserve, not a hand out, certainly not a bailout, as those we know by now are only awarded to the speculators, insurance carriers and Wall Street ‘banks’ (casinos), being ‘too big to fail’ and all, for if they did, all hell would break loose right?  Right?  That’s what they tell US anyhow…  Bailing out GM was far different, for GM actually MAKES things, as opposed to Wall Street that only drives up prices on all kinds of commodities, trading them with cheap money from the FED, banking HUGE profits, while the rest of America starves, paying executive giant bonuses, keeping the .001 percent in Lear Jets and La Jolla spreads, who can’t go wrong ’cause the puppets they got working for ‘em in Washington can’t go to the bathroom without their permission.  Isn’t that right Grover? That is the central challenge the White House faces come the fall, “for if the point spread doesn’t get ‘em (the Karl Roves of the world are saying to themselves, regarding the new voter suppression laws, designed by the ghost of Machiavelli himself to disenfranchise African-Americans, the poor elderly, students and other minorities), the six large (estimated 600 million dollars to be spent on the republican bid for the Executive, thanks Citizens United!) might just do the trick.”  Don’t be fooled by people who want to make more money on the backs of hard working Americans.  It is really THAT SIMPLE.  Have a nice day folks, steering clear of wooden nickles bantered about by FOX & FRIENDS, ‘they aren’t foxes and they are not, I repeat, NOT your friends.’ PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Bridge to reason…

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cool, sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Sunday morning, the fifteenth day of April, 2012, another beautiful spring day on Cape, as the nonexistent global warming phenomenon takes the city of Boston for example, tomorrow, to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, rather warm for the middle of April don’t you think Senator Inhofe (R) of Oklahoma?  If that is your real name…  Just kidding of course, as I don’t think he has all that good a sense of humor, and with this new ’stand your ground law’ he might just travel on up to Cape Cod and pull a toy squirt gun on me (much needed on a hot day), stating in his suspect rationalization that he was merely ’standing his ground’ by brandishing said weapon, bringing ‘light’ to this ‘greatest hoax ever played on the American people’, this so called ‘warming of the earth’s temperatures due to mankind’s continued overuse of fossil fuels, creating greenhouse gases that are exponentially warming the surface of our planet, warming it to the point where within just a few years, WE could SEA the vanishing of all the earth’s ice, that will, by golly, raise the levels of the seven SEAS to the point of no return (one of the many ‘perks’ of global warming), creating mass exoduses from places such as, let’s see, Florida for starters.  The month of March set thousands of records for high temperatures in the United States alone, sounding off alarm bells in fancy book learnin’ institutions such as MIT in Cambridge, MA, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as NCAR, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, in Boulder, Colorado, where climatologists, geologists, physicists, and other men of science have all but concluded that if we don’t get our act together soon, this planet will be in big trouble and we shall look back on this period of excess and GREED and simply shake our collective heads, stating, ‘why did WE let those multinationals run rough shod over US, via the mantra of profit over people??’… The wicked tornadoes that popped up in Kansas and other states in ‘tornado ally’ yesterday are just another example of this extreme weather SHIFT, and WE can all expect the weather to be in the headlines of the day for years to come, ever keeping an eye to the sky and sea for that matter.  ‘The more you KNOW!!!’…  Have a great Sunday and remember the old saying, “…it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.” PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Our Lady

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautiful, sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on a Saturday morning, the fourteenth day of April, 2012, another, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, earth shattering day of resounding awe on this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age, looking up at some of nature’s bounty, by way of the good ladies at “Our Lady of the Assumption”, a little Catholic chapel in Osterville who care for the many plants that adorn this place of worship every spring.  Let us also not forget the men who care for the grounds as well, such as this shrine to Mary you see below you, erected to remind US ALL that we are still LOVED, despite what the pundits in Washington, D.C. might say on any given day…  Yes sir, the birds of Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, are alive and well, and abundant, singing songs of JOY and waking up the world to what is really important and what is most clearly NOT.  The “battle” lines are clearly drawn however in that confused beltway representing our nation’s Capitol–politicians, pundits, the ‘drive by’ media, special interests, and, oh yeah I almost forgot, ‘the American People’ (credit the comic stylings of Mitch, “don’t forget to tip your waitresses, or do, I don’t really give a $hit”, McConnell, R-KY), from time to time get ready to rumble! If you, like me, are sometimes into that sort of thing, be sure to tune into some of the great cable news shows on television today (such as “UP, with Chris Hayes” and “MHP”, only on MSNBC, weekends starting at eight a.m., Saturday and Sunday), as those dedicated journalists and professors in some cases, I’m lookin’ at your Melissa Harris Perry!, will be there to give one the KNOWLEDGE one needs to make some hay out of the whole darn thing, or at least give you more than the fluff you are likely to SEA on the corporate saturated, “money equals speech”, outlets such as FOX “NEWS”, who not only offer said fluff, but deliberately mislead their audiences, swaying weak minded individuals, or those who are easily duped, into ‘thinking’ and then acting against their own best interests.  Kind of like stealing their wallet and helping them ‘locate’ it, via the faulty ‘American Crossroads’ GPS system designed by a mad strategical genius who some call by the name of ‘Rove’… 600 million bucks is the number this ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ is estimated to spend on this pivotal election come November, banking on the aforementioned FACT regarding half of the electorate, who have already drunk that chemical cocktail represented in a cool Kool-Aid beverage, confusing statements like “…we love working moms”, with real compassion for the average woman in this great nation who makes 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, while she is expected to raise her children in a crumbling school and infrastructure system, without medical insurance or a place to go for low cost care, such as Planned Parenthood, as it was ‘done away with’ (credit Mitt Romney) years ago; slaving away at the two jobs she MUST have at the new U.S. minimum wage of 2.46 cents per day, while that new President still cashes in on dividends “made” or “earned” years ago, ‘capitol gains’ from his old gig at Bain Capital, paying only 13.5 percent in federal income taxes, as opposed to the 30 percent taken out of that 2 bucks our ‘working mom’ slaves away at on a daily basis.  I have said it before and I will say it again, “I hope it’s a wonderful coffee shop Jack!” (credit Charles Grodin from the film, circa 1988, “Midnight Run”, also starring, of course, the indubitable Robert De Niro).  Have a nice day folks and remember to lose yourself in nature if you get the chance this week end, you might just FIND yourself in the process, as I did, muttering to myself out loud, “…oh, that’s where you’ve been.” PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the gorgeous, sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Friday morning, the thirteenth day of April, 2012, another stunning day on Cape, temperatures extending well into the sixties, with those thermometer readings expected to hit the eighty plus degree mark by Sunday.  U.S. citizens keeping an eye to the sky in the nation’s heartland, especially Kansas tomorrow, as a flow of moisture coming up from the south, a strong jet stream from the west and high pressure to the east combine for a wicked spring time weather mix, ripe for tornado activity–take heed and cover! As we ease on into the weekend, the presidential race between Mr. One percent and President Barack Obama began to heat up with the culture war on women rearing it’s ugly head once again.  A CNN pundit made a comment that exploded over the airwaves during the past 24 hours or so, stating, “Ann Romney never worked a day in her life”, prompting many in the media to quickly pounce on the issue, many coming to the rescue of Ann, rightly claiming that any mom has a job no one else could do, and should not be called out on such a contentious issue.  On the other hand, working women in this nation, who do not have five house keepers, and work sometimes two or three jobs just to keep shoes on their children’s feet, may have something to say about the whole thing come November, seeing through the political jousting and voicing their position at the ballot box.  We shall sea… In the Trayvon Martin case, by now a whole world is familiar with, the special prosecutor, Angela Corey, has focused on the FACT, or will attempt to prove the FACT, that George Zimmerman was ‘profiling’ the young 17 year old before he was shot and killed on February 26th of this year, and therefore will not be in the position to use the much maligned ’stand your ground law’, a law that creates more death than it does dissolving perceived ‘threats’ from strangers walking among us.  One thing is for certain, this case will be of national interest for days and weeks to come, a powder keg of racial emotions that run deep in the black community,  police profiling as opposed to what they are employed to do–namely to ‘protect and serve’ the community they are assigned to.  Take New York City for example.  Over 90 percent of people frisked for weapons and drugs, ‘unreasonable searches and seizures?’, are African-American, and most of those who have been humiliated by this tactic come up ‘clean’, prompting many in that community to speak out and ask one simple question, “…this isn’t Russia Danny.  Is this Russia?” (credit Chevy Chase and the classic 1980 film, “Caddyshack”, also starring the late, great Ted Knight and Rodney Dangerfield, who also stated in that brilliant satire of the one percent, “…eh, this is a nice hat, what a beautiful hat, (Rodney’s character inspecting a light blue, plaid, god awful hat at the ‘Bushwood Country Club’s’ pro shop), oh boy, I bet with a hat like this you get a free bowl of soup, (then Rodney looks over at ‘Judge Smails’, Ted Knight, wearing the exact same hat), looks good on you though…”.  Have a nice day and week end folks, keeping clear of wooden nickles offered up by Rupert, “arrrrgggghhhh matie!”, Murdoch’s FOX “NEWS”, side effects still include, but are not limited to, blurred tunnel vision, trouble sleeping, night sweats, paranoia, vertigo, delusions of grandeur, and an overwhelming belief that the likes of a Mitt Romney actually cares about the average working man or woman in this great nation.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! A Father’s Love

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:30 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the milky skied, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Thursday morning, the 12th day of April, 2012, a dry day on Cape and rest of the east coast, as the New England area experiences a little drought not normally seen, well, ever at this ‘time’ of year…  The news exploded yesterday around four or five p.m., eastern, across this great land of ours with the arrest of George Zimmerman, charged with second degree murder for the killing of Trayvon Martin on February 26th of this year.  This case has sparked a national conversation about race, a new controversial “stand your ground law” in the great state of Florida, spreading to over twenty other states now (great!), and the cover up by the Sanford Police Department who should have arrested Mr. Zimmerman the night of the shooting.  As has already been pointed out by individuals across the board, if Trayvon had been a white boy of that same age, 17, armed with Skittles and an iced tea, shot by a black youth in a gated community, the initial outcome would have been much different.  The double standards that young African-American males face in this country, not to mention the lack of education, role models, and the ever present 24/7 danger lurking in the form of the ‘authorities’ who blindly profile these forgotten youths of our nation, is abhorrent. At a nationally televised news conference held yesterday in Sanford, Florida, Reverend Al Sharpton, along with the family’s attorney Ben Crump, the grieving parents of Trayvon, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin and other supporters spoke to the issues surrounding this senseless act of violence, praising the courageous and thorough work of special prosecutor Angela Corey who brought said charges forth and may just answer those prayers for JUSTICE. As has always been the case, WE want the simple TRUTH of what happened, and by bringing this case to public attention, perhaps WE can all begin to see the insanity of this ’stand your ground law’–a law that invites this sort of debacle time after time, pitting one group against another, groups that will probably never see eye to eye, but don’t have to kill each other via this gun lobby’s wet dream legislation, legislation that takes innocent lives in the name of the second amendment.  Something our forefathers never envisioned; a crazy group of gun lovin’ red necks pushing for such extreme laws that only end up alienating our citizens from one another even more than they already are.  What’s the next step?  AK-47 permits for kindergartners?  Speaking as a man, and a step father, I cannot, nor will I, try and imagine such a horrible event happening to one of my own, or to anyone of my friend’s children.  When I observed Trayvon’s father, Tracy Martin, speak at said press conference yesterday afternoon, I choked up a bit, for I could see how much he loved that boy and for the Sanford Police, or any other police operation for that matter, covering this whole thing up, ‘because his dad was a magistrate and his mother (Zimmerman’s) worked for the court as a clerk’, leaving the body of Trayvon in the city morgue for three days without contacting kin, while they tested his dead body for drugs and alcohol, seems to most gentle people of the world a deep debasement of his humanity–all because he was black and wearing a ‘hoody’. This is the larger issue here, not whether Zimmerman premeditated this violent end to a promising American boy’s life.  Who knows what really happened, but, it IS clear that Zimmerman–via the 911 tapes, the witnesses who are coming forward and the contradictions in his overall ’story’–was the pursuer, the aggressor, and thus, the ’stand your ground law’ CANNOT stand it’s own ground of self defense whose premise, in the eye of the law, must account for basic LOGIC and intelligence…  If anyone had the ‘right’ to shoot anyone, it was Trayvon.  But alas, Skittles, nor iced tea, contain any deadly forces, such as gun powder and lead.  Controversy of a fair trial is going to become the next ’story’ in this case, the whole nation and indeed the whole world looking on, with some, this reporter included, muttering to themselves, ‘just how crazy are these NRA folks anyhow?’… Too many guns, too many lawyers, too much money, bringing the old song lyric–bring lawyers, guns and money’ –to a whole new level.  It is hard enough for children in this great land to grow up, can’t WE at least give them a fighting chance by condemning vigilantism, starting with an indepth tough review, via the U.S. Justice Department, of this new, crazy, controversial law, a ‘law’ that makes taking human life so easy, leaving wonderful parents like Trayvon’s in a pool of tears no one can dry?  When human life, ALL life, is a miracle and should be preserved and protected as such? Our touch stones have not been lost, they have just been forgotten, and by tackling this problem head on, WE can create solutions that will help everyone, especially the Trayvon Martin’s of the world, perhaps saving that one life in a sea of misery, rage, and disillusionment that seems to define 2012 America for FAR too many of our young people today…  God’s continued speed to the parent’s of Trayvon, the special prosecutor, Angela Corey, Ben Crump and the great Reverend Al Sharpton (please check out his stellar show on MSNBC, weeknights, six sharp, “Politics Nation”, putting the REAL back in the word real)–they have shown US all what JUSTICE and LOVE really look like.    PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the eleventh day of April, 2012, another spectacular day on Cape, with temperatures warming into the lower sixties, plenty of sunshine and little to no wind–a perfect day for fishing, golfing, boating, clamming, biking, walking, running, or doing whatever floats one’s boat, because one just can’t go wrong on Cape Cod and the islands of MV and Nantucket, now can one?   Make your summer plans to visit soon or there just might not be any room at the “Inn” when you go to book your get away in July!  The presidential race in now on for real here in the United States of America, with Rick Santorum dropping out of said race yesterday, suspending his campaign due to pressures from all sides of the ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’, good luck to him and his family…he ran an honorable race.  Although a bit misguided when it came to cultural issues of the modern day 21st century, i.e., women’s reproductive rights, Rick at least exemplified the conviction of his beliefs, something that WE just cannot say about Mitt Romney, the ‘winner’ of the republican nomination process, a process that now insures his role in this attempt to unseat a very fine President in Barack Obama. Yesterday, in the great state of Florida, President Obama gave a speech to a group of mostly college students, explaining the stark choice put in front of the electorate come November, centered on one word–FAIRNESS. Just in this past decade alone–beginning with the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, adding 4.1 trillion dollars to the national debt, along with two unpaid wars, estimates range upwards of another 4.1 trillion, a sweetheart deal for big pharma, the prescription drug donut hole filler, unpaid for, adding another trillion, all culminating in 2008 with the greatest financial meltdown since the Great Depression eighty some years ago, with blame being correctly laid on the lax, or lack of, governmental regulations of Wall Street, the ‘banking’ industry, leaving 30 million people without jobs, not to mention the other major reason for the crash, the sub-prime mortgage burnout–yes, just in this past decade alone, WE have seen the ’shellfish’ activities of the top one percent in this country hard ‘at work’, defending their ’shellfish’ policies via the popular Heritage Foundation voodoo economic theory of, “by and by, it will trickle down to you…” (credit Reverend Al Sharpton, of “Politics Nation”, only on MSNBC, six sharp, weeknights!), a theory that has been debunked by every credible economist worth his or her salt, begging the question, “just how stupid do these people think WE are anyhow?”… The fact is this ‘trickle down’ hor$e$hit theory began well before Ronald Reagan took office in 1980, but really took hold at ‘that juncture’, a LIE told by a plutocratic society hell bent on taking over this country by BUYING the Legislative branch of our government, and then insuring it’s implosion by stacking the deck of the Judiciary with Supreme Court activist judges who buy into this insane theory that money equals speech, see Citizens United decision of 2010 for more details, creating a more ‘perfect union’ of Robber Barons and their prey; a scenario history (the reason history repeats itself is because no one listened in the first place), has already played out by then President Teddy Roosevelt at beginning of the 20th century.  A President, I might add, who would have been more interested in the real shellfish noted in the image above than the selfish policies offered up by republican ‘think tanks’ from sea to shining sea.  Should, god forbid, Mitt actually gain that highest office in the land, the rub is still this–the UN fairness of the tax code will continue unabated, insuring this stagnation in average worker’s wages across this great land will continue, while the wealthiest among US, those making over a million dollars or more a year, will see their taxes go down, significantly, creating MORE debt for future generations.  To combat that huge 15 trillion dollar plus hole, ‘ole Mitt would slash the safety net for millions of Americans (classified as ‘discretionary spending’), real American men and women, children and pet, who are in dire straights through no fault of their own, blinded to what is really going on, as they are fed government issue cheese, spoon fed the gooey mix by the likes of a FOX “NEWS”( just ask Sean Hannity, he’ll tell YA!), while they take the last few teeth out of the mouth of the EPA, allowing the big polluters, Exxon-Mobile, Koch Industries and the like, the “Usual Suspects”, as it were, to continue raping and pillaging our land, sea and air with their deadly cocktail of 596 secret chemicals in say the FRACKING process of attaining ‘natural gas’, a for profit scheme that will destroy much of our clean drinking water forever!  Yes sir, these “fine” corporations, these big polluters are still exempt from the Clean Water Act of 1972 (please, Google waterdefense.org for more information), thanks to the Halliburton Loophole of 2005, where then Vice President Dick Cheney opened up public land in Wyoming–creating a nation wide open drilling for said natural gas companies, with no restrictions what so ever, killing wildlife by the score and making people very, very, very sick from Rifle, Colorado to the forests of the Pennsylvania countryside, an outrage no matter how you slice it! You might ask the simple question of yourself, asking your friends and family to do the same, as WE all digest this most clear choice for our nation…”do I want big corporate conglomerates, who care nothing about the common man or woman, let alone their children or grandchildren, destroying our natural bounty for their personal gain?”.  Mitt Romney cares about fixing things alright, fixing the game in the .001 percent’s favor, while the rest of US can just ’suck it’! President Barack Obama, on the other hand, is fighting the good fight for ALL of US–making this election in this late year of our Lord 2012, a clear choice between two very distinct visions of what America should and should NOT be.  The nation is divided in so many ways, but none so glaring as the racial divide that has emerged in the Trayvon Martin case, where a 17 year old child was gunned down in cold blood by a wanna be cop on the streets of Sanford, Florida, as over 40 percent of white people in this great nation think the case in garnishing too much attention.  Really?  Are you Trayvon Martin’s parents?  Have you ever even considered putting yourself in their place, let alone Trayvon’s place?  Do you know what it is like to be a black youth in this country, fearing every move you make because it might attract attention from ‘the law’?  No, most likely you have not.  Hell of a thing to live in fear.  A true leader would not have anyone do what he or she is unwilling to do his or herself, and in this day and age of plutocratic pampering of the super wealthy, an ENTITLEMENT issue of the highest order, presidential hopefuls like Willard will have a hard time convincing ANYONE of their authenticity, as we all shake our head at his feeble attempt to ‘fool all the people all the time’, something President Abraham Lincoln once said could not be done. The facts and numbers don’t LIE–unlike our modern day politicians, who we know are lying to US by virtue of the FACT their mouths are moving–and it will be up to writers, television producers and real grass roots leaders to INFORM the electorate what we are facing here–namely a group of ’shellfish’ modern day Robber Barons attempting to hijack our democracy for good, for their gain, leaving the rest of US ‘on our own’, dying in the dusty rubble of what our democracy once was from it’s inception 236 years ago, belabored in a rigged system of slave labor and shady deals, a broken, despondent and depressed American people, twisting in the ever more powerful winds… Pass the word! Have a nice day folks, remembering the people are what make America great, the ‘little’ people! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Blue Moon ‘arisen…

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:52 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Tuesday morning, the 10th day of April, 2012, a quiet, sun splashed start to the day, as we gear up for yet another spring time journey through the maze that defines this complicated democratic country WE all live in at this ‘present’ moment in time… Before getting into all of that, please take that moment to peruse the full moon rising over Sampson’s Island a few nights ago, right here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, a moon so bright one could easily traverse Nantucket Sound all the way to the Vineyard, with ‘ner another light to shine the way. If you need any other proof that Cape Cod and the islands might just be your best bet this summer to SEA American nature at it’s best, just imagine what this reporter witnessed before sitting down to write this ‘all important’ blog, a large adult swan flying from east to west, across the waters of Cotuit Bay, over the white pines of my home and into the blue sky that greets this most beautiful sand bar known to man–Cape Cod.  There is nothing in this world more graceful and astonishingly beautiful than a white swan flying only a few feet above your head on a serene morning on the Cape.  So come on down and visit US, we will, as always, ‘leave the LIGHT on for YA!’.  The Trayvon Martin case in Sanford, Florida, a case that should garner more public attention as it affects ALL of US, took a turn towards that wide ARC ever bending towards JUSTICE yesterday, with the special prosecutor, appointed by Governor Rick Scott, Angela Corey, dismissing the grand jury that was supposed to tackle this racially divided case today, a bold and courageous move on her part, as she is most likely going to bring charges against the man who shot and killed the 17 year old armed with Skittles and an iced tea, George Zimmerman, on Februrary 26, 2012, charges that should have been brought forth on that same date, as probable cause dictated, the ball dropped time after time by a suspect police force and other ‘powers that be’ (for the moment)–for they would have if the races were reversed–thereby, hopefully, bringing some relief and eventual closure to the parents of Trayvon–Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin–who obviously loved their son as much as any of US love OUR kids.  Trayvon Martin represents ALL of our kids, and those possessing, or possessed by, hateful minds are unable to truly see that and thus, are not worthy of your time or consideration, as their overinflated EGOS are obviously in charge of their daily existence, asleep to the greater good and a power that is infinitely more powerful than any amount of racism, intolerance and unfairness they can drum up, “trickling” all the way up the food chain–I’m looking at YOU Karl Rove, architect of American Crossroads/GPS!  Good Luck with all the LIES you plan on launching against our very fine and funny President, who read to the children yesterday at the White House Easter Egg Roll, fun had by all!  President Obama with the First Lady Michelle, daughters and “Bo” on the White House lawn, as the children got into the spirit that could make the harshest critic of said leader of the free world smile, if only for a nano second.  Yes sir, Bo, the dog–son of “Splash”, a Portugese Water Dog this reporter happened to wash for Teddy Kennedy a few years back–listening intently his masters reading of the classic children’s book, “Where the Wild Things Are” , acting it out to a group of lucky wide eyed children, giving us his best roar, fangs and claw that he will most definitely need in this upcoming fight for OUR democracy in the days, weeks and months to come.  For if you think it is anything other than that, you have not been paying attention to the fine details, remembering that ‘the devil’ is in those details, much like hidden fees and penalties big banks use to rip off their customers, or, on a much larger scale, an investment bank like Goldman Sachs doing the same to it’s investors, telling them one thing and betting against them at the same time, nice. Where the wild things are indeed Mr. President!  Keep on dodging those wooden nickles offered up by FOX “NEWS”, side effects include, but are not limited to, paranoia, tunnel vision, delusions of grandeur, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, sleep walking, trouble concentrating on reality, and equal trouble going to the bathroom.  Should you have any of these conditions, please seek the advice of your physician right away, and should you not have a physician in the near future due to the fact the GOP plans to do away with “Obamacare”, Medicare and Medicaid as we now know it, well, uh, um, you are now instructed to suck it up, continue watching FOX for more instructions, I mean details, thereby keeping ya’ll in the ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’ tractor beam of ignorance and bliss.  You are hereby commanded to continue voting against your own best interests and bow down to the plutocracy to come–you shall  now kneel before General Zod! (credit the classic 1980 film Superman II, starring the late, great Christopher Reeve; also starring the indubitable Gene Hackman, playing the arch villain Lex Luthor)…that is all. Have a nice day everybody! PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
