Light in the Distance 2.0

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the soon to be snowy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the 29th day of February, 2012, a starry beginning to the day, with the sun rising beautifully, only to be overtaken, so to speak, by the ever darkening skies, as snow slowly begins to cover this sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age.  Thankfully, there are no ‘tar sands’ under these shores, and WE can all enjoy Cape Cod National Seashore, one of the many National Parks created by a republican visionary named Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, our 26th President of the United States of America, who KNEW that ‘all the trees were the right height’ (credit Reverend Al Sharpton, of ‘Politics Nation’, six p.m., sharp, every week night, only on MSNBC, crediting Ernest Hemingway, honoring the wilderness in simple, understandable English), creating the National Park system, that today, would not be on the ‘agenda’ of ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’, far from it, rather, those lands would, like the public lands that were opened up for natural gas FRACKING in Wyoming in 2005, by then Vice President Dick Cheney, be on the chopping block, sold to the highest bidder on the international market of this never ending SPECULATION of oil, natural gas, and other natural resources, an irresponsible exercise in GREED that is systematically DESTROYING natural wonders around the world–wonders like actual glaciers in Glacier National Park, or marking up GRAND CANYON National Park, mining for uranium, great!, creating toxins streaming on into that mighty Colorado River!!! Hallelujah! In a must read article in the National Wildlife Federation Magazine–highly recommended reading material, January 2012 edition, please Google nwf.org for more information–entitled “Tar Sands Trouble”, by Daniel Glick, the TRUTH is revealed…”Increasing production and transportation of low-grade oil from Alberta threatens a wide range of North American wildlife, from endangered whooping cranes to woodland caribou.” Well, boo effing who.  Who cares right?  Real men like Teddy Roosevelt did I can assure you of that.  If he were alive today you can bet our bottom dollar that he would take that “BIG STICK”, speak softly and change policy, putting the PUBLIC back in public.  Here was a MAN who brokered the peace in 1906, only 48 years of age at the ‘time’, between Russia and Japan, winning the Nobel Prize for Peace.  The question most republicans will be forced to one day ask themselves will be, how the hell did we all get hoodwinked by a few ‘Greedy Bastards’ (a must read new book by Dylan Ratigan, of the “DR” show, week days, four pm. sharp, again, only on MSNBC), who are using our PUBLIC LANDS as their own piggy banks, emphasis on the piggy, while they simultaneously destroy OUR God given free clean air, water, and land with a poisonous chemical cocktail that is getting EVERYBODY sick, man and beast alike. Here are just a few excerpts from Daniel’s article, a subject that WE should all, assuming we care about our kids and grand kids futures, i.e. clean water=LIFE itself, take very seriously in the upcoming months as this painful election process concludes in November.  For who is truly on the side of 99.9 percent of US?  And who is not, not really?  “In a lobbyist-packed room on Capitol Hill last spring, lawmakers from the House committee on Foreign Affairs convened a hearing with a portentous title: “Rising Oil Prices and Dependence on Hostile Regimes:  The Urgent Case for Canadian Oil.” The topic was whether the federal government should accelerate approval of a controversial pipeline  to transport liquefied Canadian tar sands crude across the U.S. heartland.  Representatives heard from a parade of industry boosters who, while acknowledging some downsides to tar sands production, reassured lawmakers that the industry was improving its environmental record by employing vigilant monitoring techniques and high-tech solutions.  The last witness presented a different take.  NWF Senior Vice President Jeremy Symons, who had recently returned from Alberta’s tar sands region, told the hearing room that the super-sized scale and speed of developing this thick, low-grade petroleum defied meaningful environmental safeguards.  Already, tar sands development had produced devastating ecological ripples.  Massive toxic tailings ponds, open-pit mines, chemical-belching smokestacks and processing plants now stretched along hundreds of square miles that were once part of an intact boreal forest wilderness. This far northern wilderness provides critical breeding habitat for millions of North American birds, including migratory songbirds, waterfowl, and shorebirds.  A single square mile of boreal forest can support 500 nesting pairs of migrants.  Toxic tailings ponds have killed thousands of these birds, particularly waterfowl that spend the winter in the United States.  Symons noted that Alberta’s tar sands development also lies smack in the middle of a flyway that serves the endangered whooping crane and other species.  He then showed the hearing room a photograph of one of the high-tech solutions the industry employs to prevent cranes and other birds from dying in toxic ponds: a scarecrow draped in a yellow rain slicker, looking very much like the Grim Reaper, pointing ominously to the sky.”  Dirty Business “Ominous is a good word to describe the Canadian tar sands industry.  Billed as a fix for U.S. dependence on Middle East oil, tar sands are instead another example of this country’s “desperate quest for more extreme oil,” Symons says–a nightmare vision of an inefficient, toxic and greenhouse gas-spewing energy future.  Tar sands contain low-grade hydrocarbons mixed in with sand and clay, which must be mined by the megaton, processed, liquefied, transported and refined to make transportation fuels.  It takes 4 tons of tar sands to make one barrel of a black, viscous, raw form of oil called bitumen, and the process of transforming tar sands into one barrel of oil can take up to four barrels of water–not to mention vast quantities of natural gas to power the process.  Some estimates suggest that mining, producing, transporting and burning oil produced from tar sands emit three times more carbon dioxide than conventional oil production.  Already, the industry is the fastest growing source of carbon dioxide pollution in Canada.  Thanks to Canada’s burgeoning tar sands production, the country is now the largest crude oil supplier to the United States, selling more than each of our previous top exporters–Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Venezuela–according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.  If tar sands mining continues apace, industrial development eventually will encompass an area of boreal forest and wetlands the size of Florida.  Tar sands development impacts not only birds but fish, forest mammals and humans alike. In Alberta, First Nations locals told Symons they no longer eat fish from the Athabasca River for fear of contaminants.  Subsistence hunters now have to range great distances to find game like woodland caribou as herds scatter and the animals’ numbers decline.  President Obama may yet have something to say about the tar sands’ future.  The project in question during last spring’s congressional hearing is the 1,700-mile Keystone XL pipeline, proposed to run from Alberta to south Texas.  This conduit would carry 830,000 barrels a day of liquid bitumen.  Because it would cross international borders, the pipeline requires presidential approval after a series of environmental assessments of the project.  A decision is expected by the end of 2011.  (still up in the air, so to speak)  Conservationists say it will be one of the most important–and far reaching–environmental decisions of the Obama presidency.  That’s because the pipeline has an expected lifespan of 50 years and will, among other things, lock the nation into a dirty, carbon intensive and expensive fuel for generations as well as sanction a long-term, international pollution delivery system.  The project would cross some of the heartland’s most sensitive environmental areas, including the Ogallala Aquifer, the Sand Hills and the Yellowstone River–already contaminated by a tar sands pipeline spill last June!”…  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Risin’ Sun ‘ore Nantucket…

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Tuesday morning, ’super Tuesday part one’, February 28th, 2012, a stunning morning on Cotuit Bay, yes, that’s right, I’ll say it once again in case you didn’t hear it the first time, Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, looking out onto the serene waters, with a gentle breeze flowing through the trees, that, unlike Michigan, are not all the ‘right height’, in fact, they are all wrong, the Holly trees are shorter than the White Pines, and the Arborvitaes that line, for real, ‘the Ancient Path’, are off kilter with the scrub oak, a famous tree on Cape, one you might notice if one were traveling down the main thoroughfare of Cape Cod in a vehicle, route six, that takes one from the Bourne Bridge all the way to the tip of the Cape, Provincetown, the true first landing, well, next to the landing at now ‘Coast Guard Beach’ in Chatham, of those first Pilgrims on a wooden schooner called ‘The Mayflower’, the first Anglo-Saxons to anchor in the New World, but alas, could not find water, and so, they sailed north to what is now known ’round these here parts’ as Provincetown, where, years later, after they settled Plymouth, the fictional ‘first landing of the Pilgrims’, they built a monument, “The Pilgrim Monument”, the tallest standing granite structure in the United States, I’m not sure about Dubai.  Standing 252 feet in height, this granite beauty was dedicated to those brave Pilgrims who first settled the now United States of America, unbeknownst to them at the ‘time’, for it was on November 21st, 1620, a full 156 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, these brave souls brought the spirit of that BRAVE NEW WORLD, a spirit that lives on today in this great land of ours, a spirit available to EVERYONE, for it knows no race, creed, color, sexual orientation, gender, social status, no, it beckons one to strive for high ideals, you know, “snobbery”.  To strive for a better future not only for ourselves right here and “NOW”, but one for our kids and grand kids, who WILL, one day, sit back and scratch their heads and say, ‘what was up with grandpa?’, was it worth screwing up the aquifers in New York state, affecting millions of people’s drinking water back in the early part of the 21st century? Just to make some dough on ‘natural gas’ extraction from shale rock deep below the surface of the earth?  Could they at least have done it safely?  Without allowing those 596 deadly, secret at the ‘time’ chemicals to destroy millions of people’s everyday drinking water in the ‘greatest city in the world?’  Are you fracking kidding me?  I don’t think Theodore Roosevelt, our very fine republican President, who, in 1907 dedicated the cornerstone of that monument, and, in 1910, President
William Howard Taft dedicated the now completed tower, marking it as a totem, if you will, would have shared the Koch Brother’s business practices, practices that are harming our environment, our political landscape and our rights to organize under a UNION umbrella, safety in numbers right David?  Hats off to the everlasting spirit of the Pilgrim, of the Pioneer, of leaders, both past and present, who see beyond all of this useless bickering back and forth about who was right about this, and who was wrong about that.  For in the end, it, to quote Winston Churchill, the great British Prime Minister who saw England through World War II, “…it is not the critic who counts, rather, it is the man in the arena, with blood and dust all over his face, fighting the good fight…for he is not one of those timid souls who knows neither victory, nor defeat.”  I paraphrase slightly, but I believe you get the point.  WE all have a stake in this upcoming election, and it IS for all the marbles, for the world MUST find those common solutions, now that WE live in a global economy, to our common problems of energy, food, clean drinking water, basic medical care, a prospect for employment in the future, seeing a true path out of this wilderness of fear mongering, manipulation, maleficence and maliciousness, finally seeing the LIGHT Plato described to well in ‘The Republic’, showing the ‘people in the cave’, that shadows are not real, and there is something outside of that cave you have been huddling in for so long, you have the right to get out and exercise your voice, live your life and be free, the very point of this experiment called ‘the United States of America’.  The plutocratic vision will not, in the end, hold that LIGHT that is bestowed upon all human beings, ‘even the least among US’.  For was it not the man who became spirit in this world, 2012 years ago, a man whom many seeking political power in this country claim to worship and FOLLOW, i.e. ‘walk the talk’, yes, was it not that same man who said this–“what you do to the least of me, you do unto me….”?.  I say old chap, how does that square with your real position, you know ‘who are you REALLY?’  Perhaps in this late hour of 2012, you should take another gander at that Bible you throw around every one’s bedroom.  That kind of careless rhetoric is exactly WHY we have a separation of church and state, per the CONSTITUTION, because the vast majority of ‘the American People’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R–KY), do not want some bully telling them what they can and cannot do.  That is why the Pilgrims came to the New World to begin with, mainly to escape religious tyranny under brutal Kings, such as George the third, who sparked the Revolution in this nation, ‘creating a more perfect UNION’, ever keeping one’s faith between himself and his CREATOR. Good Luck in Michigan today news core of America!  I’m sure it will all turn out just fine, and have a nice day folks, keeping clear of Rupert, ‘arrrrrghhhhh matie!’, Murdoch’s wooden nickles, seems like the gig is up, eh matie?  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Cold Cape Cod Bay

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the once again sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Monday morning, the twenty-seventh day of February, 2012, another nice, mild, calm, both seas and wind, day here in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood‘, as you look out on to Cape Cod Bay, where I recently took a trip to the Stellwagen Bank where the great whales, Humpback, Finback, Right, Sperm sometimes even a roaming Orca, spend their summers gorging on krill and other small ’sea creatures’, going back to the Caribbean, and who can blame them, to mate and reproduce the most majestic of all creatures on planet earth–the WHALE. Nantucket, of course, became famous because of the whaling, the killing of these great mammals for mainly their oil, but, do to public outcry in the middle part of the twentieth century, whaling was finally banned for good all over the world, with rare occasions of Japanese whaling as well as Norwegians still hunting these great mammals, highly intelligent, more so than man.  Thankfully we have heroes aboard vessels such as ‘The Sea Shepard’, as well as GREENPEACE vessels who continue going after those deadly whaling ships with a vengeance, stopping a Japanese fleet just this past year from going on an Arctic killing spree–feeding the never ending, rather odd, Japanese penchant for whale meat.  Further, it is equally appalling that magnificent sharks all over the oceans of the world are being killed off in record numbers, not for their meat, rather, for their fins, as these butchers cut them off, leaving the poor shark to die as it is tossed back into the water.  Horrible!  WE, collectively as a species, treat our ‘catch’ like that as well, such as our employees, our students, our minorities, our elderly, the women of this country, gays… imagine, just for a moment, what we are doing to each other, while the large multinational corporations (with their presumptive puppet already to take the stage), who don’t answer to anyone nor care about anyone because corporations are not human and thus, have no feelings on the matter, attempt to HIJACK that highest and most powerful office in the land, the Presidency of the United States of America, and perhaps, for now anyway, the world.  These ‘corporations are people too’, as Mitt Romney would have you believe, are NOT here to enrich the ‘American People’ (republican talking point #307: copy-written by Legal Zoom, ‘putting the law on your side’–still owned and operated by our pal from Kentucky, Mr. downer himself, yes, give it up for Mitch, “my mother told me there would be days like this”, McConnell, a fine Senator if you like that ’sort of thing’), as he spoke again yesterday in Detroit, on the eve of the Michigan primary, followed by “Super Tuesday”, that depending on the outcome, could spell a brokered convention come Tampa, but not likely, yes, as he spoke to a crowd yesterday at Ford Field, where the Lions, football, play, a venue mistake perhaps, as the glaring lack of people, ‘American people’ in said stadium, that holds over 65,000 souls, counted perhaps several thousand–you had to say to yourself, “what were they thinking?”.  You could not buy a ticket to that event and it could not have acted as a better metaphor for exactly what the ONE PERCENT looks like at ‘this juncture’ (credit the 41st President of the United States, George H. Bush), only a few at the table, while others starve and freeze on the outside of the system, a system created ‘of, by, and for the plutocrats of America’. One thousand people, presumably all warm and toasty inside, with millions of out of work African Americans on those now extremely desolated streets of Detroit. Wow. I quote Mr. Romney here, who said he ‘is for 100 percent of the American people’ …really? really? really?  Imagine Mitt going into a high end clothing store, trying out this line of ‘clothes’ (the trees are all the right height, and the roads are just right), or that one (“no, you’re wrong, corporations are people too my friend, where do you think all of that money goes, back to the people.”???), awkwardly proving that none of this garb fits.  Making a great case against him becoming our 45th President of these here United States.  Meanwhile, old Rick Santorum is painting himself into a corner, with more imbecile rhetoric about the value of a college education “…the world needs ditch diggers too…” (credit the late, great Ted Knight, and his fantastic role of “Mr. One Percent” in the classic film, circa 1980, “Caddyshack”).  Why does Santorum hate snobs?  Why?  Because he carries the water for the one percent, that is why he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, for his message is really no different from Romney’s save, a little scarier, especially when he wants to tell women, always a bad idea, what to do with their own bodies, in effect, regulating them as if they were one of his stupid NASCARS, a big event (the Daytona 500), I’m told, where the cars go round and round in a fuc%king circle for hours on end, a real ‘must see’ television event if you get the opportunity to view one, personally I would rather watch the grass grow, paint dry or eat sand.  Yes, that event was supposed to take place yesterday, but alas, it rained.  Bummer dude.  Finally, we take a look at the Oscar’s last night, where the French film, a silent film, throwback from the twenties, called, “The Artist”, winning, I believe 5 of those golden trophies, including Best Picture, Best Actor and whatever those other awards were, as my friend George Clooney missed out again on the best actor award–worry not my friend, that is coming soon to a theater near you! Meryl Streep won ‘Best Actress’, and when she took the stage to accept the award, she ‘had to laugh’, stating, ‘oh, god, the American public is probably saying to themselves, not her again, adding, oh well.’ God Love her!  Oscar night is always great on so many levels, for who among us, from the dumbest FOX reporter to the Dean of Journalism, Mr. Keith Olbermann (remember to watch “Countdown, with Keith Olbermann”, airing every week night at 8 p.m., eastern, only on Current TV), himself does not have at least one movie that is near and dear to their hearts?  For movies, unlike ‘real life’, take us out of the mundane and propel us to what is quite possible, if we shed our old ‘beliefs’ that are usually based on some old man’s, long dead, concept of ‘what is right and what is wrong’, proving once again, that an open, honest democracy, where ALL voices are heard EQUALLY, is the best bet.  I wonder when the republican party will wake up to that fact, that we do, indeed, live in the year 2012 and are moving forward, with or without them, for ‘them’ is a shrinking demographic, as this country becomes browner and more diverse, interested in creating a FAIR system that truly does serve the needs of the AMERICAN PEOPLE, not just white, rich males like Mitt, who is not in touch with those people, because, like Lilly Tomlin said a long time ago in an SNL skit,“…we’re the phone company (the one percent), we don’t care because we don’t have to.” The trees may be the right height now Governor, but let us put some more carbon dioxide into the air, like the dirty Canadian tar sands via the XL Keystone pipeline, a move that will ’spell lights out for the environment’ (credit every climatologist worth his or her salt), exponentially warming this planet ‘for future generations’.  Then, dear Governor, let US return to that state of Michigan (that I still love as well, living in Northville many moons ago, married in Birmingham) and her many beautiful trees and see if not only are they still ‘the right height’, but moreover, do they still exist?  Have a nice day folks and keep on keeping on, as that horrible war in Afghanistan PROVES we should be in our own backyard, cleaning up our own mess, taking care and educating our own people, wildlife and the wilderness at large, rather than spending immense blood and treasure on pointless exercises of futility, a word that has become synonymous with the Afghanistan War, a war that must come to an end before more innocent officers are gunned down in their administrative buildings by a people who defeated the Soviet Union in the early 1980’s, a country, by the way, that has never been defeated by anyone or anything. What are we really trying to prove here?  Our main goal should be to stabilize Pakistan, for that, not Iran, is where the real threat of loose nukes lies, and yet, we are actually beginning to contemplate repeating that same old bat shit logic we used, rather, Dick Cheney used, in the horrible Iraq War, that took over 4400 American lives, 100,000 Iraqi men, women and children, 3.1 Trillion of U.S Treasure (and counting) and leaving that country without simple electricity, thus, creating, as ‘liberators’ (credit George W. Bush), a darker and more depressed country than when we went in as those GREAT LIBERATORS!  What a joke, and it would be funny if it were no so f’ing tragic!  authors note, the doggy in the window is “Splash”, Teddy Kennedy’s Portuguese Water dog puppy who still lives in Hyannis Port, as I was honored to wash and dry him, many moons ago, when I was in the dog walkin’ business!) Year of the Dragon

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, cool, less windy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Sunday morning, seven a.m., February 26th, 2012, a beautiful one on Cape, as this reporter, predicted to Thompson-Reuters, witnessed a spectacular sunrise that lifted more than just the day, it lifted a few spirits as well.  Yesterday the Cape and islands experienced wicked winds coming out of the northwest, gusts upwards of 63 m.p.h.–thankfully no damage to report.  The Sunday morning talk shows will begin in less than an hour from “NOW’ (with Alex Wagner, week days at high noon, only on MSNBC), with the pundits flappin’ their gums regarding everything from the tensions in Iran, Syria and gas prices, to the republican nomination process, culture wars, women’s rights, and illegal immigration, just to name a few, as we all sit back and watch what will happen next, something that none of us really know anyhow, except Thompson-Reuters of course.  The smart Irish money is still on Mitt Romney to win the republican nomination, even if Rick Santorum wins the Michigan primary on Tuesday, home state, of course, to Mitt, who still ‘pines’, sorry about that, for the trees of that fine state, trees that are always the right height, as WE all know by now, from Dearborn to Mackinac Island, driving around in that old Mustang, singing songs that still had ‘…old salt that soothed my soul’ (credit Tom Cruise and the classic film, “Risky Business”, circa 1983), “wonderin’ where is great big world gonna take me…?”.  The main problem with this ‘plan’ however, of residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Mitt old boy, is the fact that breaking down companies for your own, and your partners, personal gain (private equity firm of Bain Capital, yes?), is not what this country needs right now ‘experience’ wise, for who would REALLY believe you would not take this country backwards, evoking the some of the same principals exercised by the Bush administration that got US into this mess in the first place?  In fact, former President George W. Bush looks quite moderate compared to what you might do regarding regulations that curb corrupt behavior that only hurts the majority of the ‘American People’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R-KY), people that you claim, per yesterday’s speech in Detroit, you care ‘deeply’ about.  Hats off to Jeb Bush, W’s brother, who stated for all the world to hear recently that WE, and I paraphrase here, ’should stop this fear mongering and get on with the helping of our brothers and sisters of America’, the true core of his message, a real statement that actually proves some of these guys, of whom I have friends on the ‘other side’ of the aisle, have a heart.  For it is refreshing to KNOW that not all republicans have lost their minds, as they claim the mantle of small government while they climb into your bed and tell you what you should and should not do.  Give US a break Rick, you are not “God in chief”, nor is any human being for that matter, and the Pope that you and I recognize recently said this of your foolish statement regarding this ‘phony theology’ of being a steward of the environment, well, he did not address you personally, but did point to the FACT that we all have stake in this, and those who do care about our little blue rock called earth will forever be on the side of our kids and our grand kids, who WILL look in wonder someday at the Galapagos tortoises, the dancing dolphins, and the Great Blue Heron and sigh, stating, thank God someone cared enough to share this for future generations. It’s not all politics gentlemen!  Have a nice day folks and may I suggest, turning on Turner Classic Movies, on this Oscar Sunday, you may just be surprised at some of the classic films you will discover, such as Bing Crosby in “Going My Way”, circa 1944, a story of a young, Catholic Priest who changed more than just a few lives, he, “Father O’Malley” used the power of music to restore LOVE where there once was none.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, the twenty-fifth day of February, 2012, a wonderful day to be on Cape Cod proper if you like a nice ocean breeze, clear skies and infinite seas that take one away from the insanity of politics in America circa 2012.  Of course, you also might be of the political junkie mindset at the same time, which is, to quote my friend Al Franken, Senator extraordinaire from the great state of Minnesota, “OK”, taking in all of this useless information and trying to make heads or tails of it all, mining gold, if you will, for it is only the future of this country, and indeed the world that is at stake here.  I know my friends over on MSNBC are of that ilk, producing ‘must see’ television  talk shows such as “UP, with Chris Hayes”, starting in fifty minutes from right “NOW”, another fine show on week days at high noon, with the highly talented Alex Wagner, a show dedicated to digging for that truth hidden in all of the camouflaged toxic nonsense that comes in the forms of dog whistles, propaganda, fear mongering, mass hypnosis, and giant overreaches by men who live in the 19th century, or on another planet all together, ready to pull out their pitch forks and torches at any minute as they continue this insane march carrying the crest of culture wars against women, minorities, gays, students and any one who is not in lockstep with the plutocratic ‘new world order’. Hogwash I say unto you, pure, unadulterated hogwash.  After Chris, be sure to tune into Melissa Harris-Perry, or “MHP”, another hard hitting view from the great professor from Tulane, who keeps it real and always, always, makes me laugh, especially when she does.  One more plug today for MSNBC, a big shout out and ‘endorsement’ of the “DR” show, with Dylan Ratigan (week days at four p.m. eastern), who, yesterday, had the great ‘Sir Willie Geist’ (of another MSNBC show, “Way too early with Willie Geist“, followed by the great “Morning Joe”, beginning at 5:30 a.m., or, as the title to the show indicates, ‘way too early’ (but worth getting up for) read an excerpt from Dylan’s new book, another ‘must read’, “Greedy Bastards”, all you need to know ‘why’ this country is in the shape it’s in today, and I must say sir, that reading looked awfully familiar to the humble reporter…nice.  Have a wonderful day and keep on dodging those wooden nickles thrown about by FOX NEWS, they ain’t sellin’ any alibis as you stare into the empty vacuum of their eyes. Cape Dusting

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the snowy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Friday morning, the twenty-fourth day of February, 2012, a wintry one on Cape, as the wet stuff came out of nowhere to remind US all winter is still here, even though yesterday the crocus’ were popping out of the earth, with temperatures soaring into the upper 50’s, feeling like April rather than the month of February that it most assuredly still IS.  But, by all means, let US build the XL Keystone pipeline from hell, figuratively speaking of course, as Alberta, Canada is a fine Province of a very fine country.  Let us throw caution and common sense to the wind, shunning the 99 percent of the scientists worth their salt around the world who have exclaimed regarding this Keystone, ironic to be sure, XL pipeline, “…if the pipeline goes through, it will spell lights out for the environment”.  Yet people still don’t get the bottom line here–the earth’s atmosphere cannot withstand the weight of the carbon dioxide that will be produced if tar sand, excavated for the oil within the sand itself, is thrown into the mix, especially if we build a pipeline, FOR THE OIL COMPANIES, not ‘the American people’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R-KY), from the source of the problem, Alberta, down through the United States all the way to Texas, destroying precious aquifers in Nebraska for example along the way, yes, if we build this monstrosity, again, for the enrichment of a few, that raw oil, will bypass refineries in the Midwest and be shipped out to the highest bidder on the international market, doing NOTHING for the people of this country and our ‘energy independence’, for if WE were truly concerned with that, we would follow along Sweden’s line, vowing to be fossil free by the year 2020.  As gas prices continue to rise due to SPECULATORS (Goldman Sachs, hedge funds, basically the ‘investment banking community’) mainly, profiteers who are worried about tensions in the Persian Gulf, namely Iran, with the critical shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz in question, President Barack Obama has made it clear that we cannot drill, baby drill our way out of this problem.  We must employ all of our resources, including solar and wind, ‘god damn dirty, liberal, hippy scumbag!’, responsible use of natural gas, without all of the poisonous chemicals used in the FRACKING process of cheaply attaining that gas, again, the problem of PROFIT OVER PEOPLE rearing it’s ugly head, responsible drilling without faulty blowout preventers, conservation, for real, and reasonable reexamination of an honest to goodness cap and trade policy… if we are going to get ANYWHERE!   For if we continue act as a bunch of junior high ’scholars’ on television, making fun of people who DO care about our kids and grand kids futures, hoping against hope that they too can see a Polar Bear in the wild, then WE, collectively as a country and citizens of the world will have to stop following the real “phony theology” of the never ending lust for the “Almighty ” gold coin, for old Rick and even perhaps Mitt might well be served to remember that you cannot serve two masters, remembering who said that to begin with, the man whom they confess to worship, Jesus Christ himself!  You can’t have it both ways, for as that bridge to nowhere (empty lies told by men who serve that rigged system that is failing our nation) falls into the ever rising seas of empty rhetoric serving to solve NO problem (such as our real bridges, roads and rails rusting and falling apart), leaving more and more of our fellow man in the dark, fear NOT, there will be an answer. Even though recently the majority of our fellow citizens bought into the hype of Madison Avenue wizards, in a recent poll of Americans in favor (63%) of that horrible pipeline going through, adding more carbon to the mix that is warming this planet exponentially, it is really no surprise, for they are like many before them, believing in everything the hear, see and read–a job F.O.X. (foul, obnoxious, xenophobia) “News” does all too well, pulling that wool over the American people’s eyes 24/7/365!  “Hope it’s a wonderful coffee shop Jack!” (credit the classic film “Midnight Run”, starring the incomparable Charles Grodin and immortal Robert De Niro). Departing Flights

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the drizzly, mild, clearing island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Thursday morning, February 23rd, 2012.   I don’t know about you, but, by golly, I’m all fired up about this fascinating republican nomination process.  Never before in my lifetime have I witnessed such a stretch when the majority of ‘the American People’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R-KY) want something far different than what “Mr. One Percent” would have us digest, as the ‘human’ faceless, nameless entities that call themselves multinational corporate conglomerates continue plundering the earth for it’s natural resources, for PROFIT only mind you, leaving, such as in the cases of Nigeria and Ecuador, real honest to goodness sovereign nations, including this one, poorer than when they arrived, as the people whom they took a big dump on lay in puddles of poison left over by either the FRACKin’ ‘Brothers Koch’ or their counterparts in the oil business (Exxon-Mobile, Chevron, Shell, BP), making money hand over fist, claiming, as in the XL Keystone pipeline (please Google ‘trans Canada, Alberta/Keystone XL/tar sands) from hell, that it ‘will create millions of jobs’, per that horrible Ad put together by ‘America’s oil and natural gas industries’, industries, that, like BP, destroy the wilderness and people’s lives for money, just like they destroyed an entire ecosystem for generations in the Gulf of Mexico, paying out only 6 billion from the 20 billion BP put aside to ‘clean up the Gulf’ and restore all of the tourism and fishing these poor people depend upon for their livelihoods.  In typical corporate fashion, they settled and plan to give the rest of that money, 14 billion, to the U.S. Treasury Department where it will fall down a deep, dark black hole, leaving the majority of citizens in the Gulf region high and dry, save the poisonous catch they bring back from the dead zones that extend out for hundreds of miles, where no living thing can survive… Food for thought, so to speak, as these men without conscience, yet claim the mantle of God’s ear, continue their march of folly towards what will never, ever be their residence, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Have a nice day, keeping in mind what John Lennon said so many moons ago, “…time wounds all heals.”  an author’s note: “Taking Fog to Nantucket” will be available on this website in Epub format, as well as on Smash words, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, etcetera, with hard covers available very soon, a book that speaks to a real journey, an odyssey to be sure, taking one all over this great land of ours, and indeed the world, addressing alcohol, corporate ‘relocating’, personal responsibility and brutal police behavior.  A true story that began on the boat, ‘The Grey Lady’, you see above you, a boat that took this reporter, then an insurance executive/consultant (once employed by Marsh and Mclennan, Aon, Johnson and Higgins, Prudential, well you will get the picture), over to that fabled island of Nantucket way back in 2003, to meet his fate, a fate he did not know at the time, as he was assaulted by a Nantucket Police Officer who literally came within inches of taking his life, as he (Michael Mosier) was slam dunked (face first, nothing to break the fall, into the cobblestones of India street), according to two women witnesses only twenty feet away at the then ‘Atlantic Cafe’, resulting in a severe form of PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, severe delayed onset, to which I dedicate an entire chapter to, hopefully giving insight for any veteran, or anyone else for that matter, as to what PTSD is, how it can be treated and offering the HOPE ‘that things do get better’, offering that HOPE when before, at least for this cowboy, there was none at all–for anyone who may have gotten the short end of the stick in these past ten or so years, this book is for you. Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the mild, overcast island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this warm Wednesday morning, the twenty-second day of February, 2012, as the Cape and Islands expect temperatures to reach almost sixty degrees today under partly cloudy skies and calm seas…I am so thankful that global warming is a hoax and part of the ‘phony theology’ (credit long shot presidential candidate, Rick, “I’m the voice of the Catholic church”, Santorum) offered up by the Obama administration, an administration that cuddles up to empirical scientific FACT regarding this temporary home to ALL of US, everyone alive on planet earth today, for what could be more important than the republican definition of ‘god’ with all of it’s emphasis on INCLUSION, just like Jesus directed us poor little human beings to strive for, not exclusion, like those liberal, hippy (please sea picture below of said ‘filthy, hippy, tree huggin’ liberal’, what was the word, oh yeah, ‘freak’), elite, fancy book learnin’, east coast snobby media types, who would rather hang out with the Hollywood establishment as opposed to clowns like Boehner, McConnell, Cantor, Romney, Santorum, Rove, Breitbart and that little sneak Frank Luntz, of ‘word doctors’, one of the many Maytag washing machines set on infinite SPIN.  Yes, thank the Lord above we are not part of that filthy, hippy, liberal, exclusive crowd, a crowd that believes in a woman’s RIGHT to her own body (common sense), a crowd that believes in HELPING our fellow citizens dig themselves out of the rather large hole left by the previous administration, as our Current(v) President, Barack Obama, one of the best we have had in a generation, struggles day in and day out with the lunatic fringe so well defined by Andy Breitbart’s insane rantings the other night in New York City, now preserved for posterity’s sake forever on the You Tube video of your choice...Hallelujah! Tonight, we will see all of the action heroes on stage again, minus a few, with only four now participating in Arizona’s newest version of Alfred Hitchcock’s midnight theater, starring the incomparable Rick, “I think sex of any kind is just plain wrong”, Santorum, bringin’ the crazy like there’s no tomorrow, ready to do battle with every one’s favorite .001 percent-er, Mr. Willard, “Hi, I’m with Bain Capital and we are here to destroy your country, I mean company”, Romney.  In the grand stands of the debate on CNN, I believe tonight at 8 p.m., eastern, you will also have every one’s favorite crazy grandpa, Ron, “let the puppies die, it’s none of our business”, (credit SNL, circa 2012) Paul and “She turned me into a Newt” (credit Monty Pythons’ Flying Circus and the classic film produced by those genius Brits, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”), Gingrich, who has proven his worth by taking over 10 million dollars from an old casino dog from Vegas, well played sir!  God will not be tuning in tonight, however, as he would much rather watch “Countdown, with Keith Olbermann”, airing every week night at 8 p.m., eastern, only on Current TV, for there he will see a real journalist expose ‘men’ like Breitbart for the a$$hole that he and those who ‘think’ like him most certainly ARE!  Leaving us ALL laughing with his newest installment of the Andrew Breitbart meltdown at the “Occupy” movement recently, as he drunkenly sloshed his wine about calling the brave protesters all kinds of names, as if he were back in junior high school, where he belongs, and had just dropped his first hit of acid…‘for God’s sakes, can’t you just leave old Andy alone you monster!’. Who are you really?

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the starry, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you at this five a.m. hour, February 21st, 2012, a Tuesday on Cape, and, I assume, the rest of the world, coming to you LIVE from Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, as you look out onto Brandt Point above, the “Lighthouse with nine lives” on the beautiful island of Nantucket!  Yes sir, this is Michael Mosier, author and creator of seacapecod.net, one of those radical ‘phony theology’ types, an independent, no advertising, long haired, filthy, hippy, a real life tree huggin’ peaceful environmentalist, doing all of this for FREE, a man that does not believe Rick, “I’m for small government, except when it comes to your bedroom”, Santorum, the former Senator from the great state of Pennsylvania, comprehends what the word STEWARDSHIP actually means, as he continues hauling the heavy talking points of the ruling plutocratic class, hauling it like a mule up the steep hill of hypocrisy, bullying, and an overall lack of understanding of what Jesus said over 2012 years ago…(you brought Jesus into this insane republican process Rick, not I).  But, forgetting about the all important ONLY REAL issue facing mankind today, the warming of the earth’s atmosphere due to the continued Ostrich like attitude to the continued FOLLY of spewing tens of millions of tons of carbon dioxide into the air daily 24/7/365, creating a greenhouse effect that is making the world warmer, melting the ice sheets (that you can sea from space, you moron!), pumping more water into said atmosphere, creating stronger storms, wickedly more severe droughts and rising sea levels, with dire consequences to come if mankind does not act soon, yes, forgetting that petty “phony theology”, you know, hoping ALL human beings outlast this human folly of it’s own making, yes, forgetting all of that ’science’ or ‘fancy book learnin” for a moment, I have a question for republicans on the wrong side of basic human rights for women, who contrary to some radical republican viewpoints, are completely equal to men.  What part of the year 2012 don’t you understand? “What we have here is a failure to communicate…” (credit the late, great Paul Newman and one of his many classic films, “Cool Hand Luke”). Again, the vast majority of women in this country, three out of four, do not want this ‘daddy state’ (credit the great new MSNBC Saturday and Sunday ‘left wing, intellectual, elite, subway ridin” talk show extraordinaire, following Chris Hayes’ “UP”, which begins at 8 a.m., both days, yes, please credit Melissa Harris-Perry’s “MHP”, on at 10 a.m. sharp both week end mornings, keeping it real, a must sea), and agree with President Obama on this basic contraception ‘issue’, a throwback cultural issue from the 1950’s ’cause the republicans don’t have jack $hit to stand on, and they know it.  This country is not the year 1905 when Teddy Roosevelt, one of my favorite Presidents, due to his stance on ‘preserving the wilderness’, made only one mistake when he made it clear to the country that women NOT getting pregnant was somehow ‘treasonous’, on par with a soldier running away in the face of battle.  ‘We have come a long way baby!‘, and the insanity of the ’sonogram bill’, an incredible over reach (something I thought the republicans were opposed to FUNDAMENTALLY, you know, small government and all) of an overzealous right wing march (President of N.O.W., Terry O’Neill, going so far as to call it rape) that seems to be very interested in population control (slave labor?) and disenfranchising American voters (thanks to the new tough voter ID laws, the real FRAUD), virtually stripping most African American males of the right to vote, and other groups within that demographic, along with students, the poor, the poor elderly, and others, effectively stealing the, God forbid, the election of our next President, Senators and congressman, playing dirty pool with a big wide grin on their faces.  This, of course, is the backdrop to the big story the republicans have successfully buried, the lead story, the day in and day out of the destruction of our environment (i.e., the Keystone XL pipeline, an expose I will be presenting in a week or so) with immoral ‘natural gas’, “I’m sure it’s perfectly safe”, FRACKING, poisoning the air and water with 596 deadly, secret, unregulated chemicals that are killing people and wildlife already in 34 states of our 50 United States–drilling for that ‘cheap’ form of energy, for PROFIT, literally taking away our ‘kids and grand kids futures’ (republican talking point #337), all in the name of the plutocratic platitude “PROFIT OVER PEOPLE“, a mantra that has been very effective for over thirty years now, yes, continuing on with this VERY immoral rape and pillage of our earth (I too am a Catholic, big time, RICK!, WALKING my TALK), to which much explaining will have to be done ‘in the next life’ (credit the classic film, “Midnight Run”, starring the incomparable Robert De Niro and very funny Charles Grodin), that is, of course, and I have to take him at his word, if Rick Santorum truly believes in the TRUE word of GOD, yes, all of this nonsense, unnecessary nonsense will have to be explained to future generations as the world heats up to the point of no return.  Question two Rick, how is being a steward of the earth so that our kids and grand kids can have the same earth to play and explore in, how is that unchristian, or part of some ‘phony theology’?  Further, who the hell made you POPE?  This year of 2012 is a shakedown, an expose if you will for the soul.  Have you noticed how republicans have nothing more than talking points, “points” that, upon closer scrutiny, reveal the deep cracks in the double talk and standards defined in hypocrisy, hypocrisy and blatant, rather obvious to the trained eye, MASS HYPNOSIS ? (credit FOX “NEWS”). Thus, keeping that status quo represented in the GRAND CANYON metaphor of the HAVES and the have nots, a gap that is widening everyday.  For what else could be the answer to this insanity around reproductive choice?  Person-hood?  Who the hell is anyone on planet earth, save Jesus himself, who, if you truly believe in the Son of God, will be paying a visit fairly soon, yes, who the heck can say he or she is qualified to make that distinction?  Especially when those decisions are being made by older, middle aged, uniformed, or just plain ignorant, dare I say stupid, white, for the most part, men who use religion as a weapon more often than the LOVE for which it was intended.  Jesus once said, “Those without SIN be the first to cast the stone.”. Heaven Help US!

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the cloudy, cool island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this President’s Day, Monday, February 20th, 2012, a rather cold, raw day on Cape, as the nation relaxes for a moment and buys some mattresses or used cars in celebration of the two President’s we combine in today’s national holiday–Abraham Lincoln, whom you may be able to make out in the cloud below you, and George Washington, our first President, who, 237 years ago, became our first leader in an epic fight against tyranny of ANY kind, eventually leading the rebels to victory in that horrible, freezing cold Revolutionary War that had everything to do with evolution as it did with the bloody confrontation that took place on the fields of Lexington and Concord.  With the political horse$hit becoming knee deep in many places around the country, we can all enjoy Rick, “I am for small government except when it comes to your bedroom“, Santorum and Mitt, “I know something that you don’t know, the election process is rigged”, Romney slogging on this week to win the hearts and minds of Michiganders set to vote in that state’s critical primary later on this week, as many Americans are forced to pay attention with the 24/7 Ad campaigns on both sides of this rather odd republican configuration going on and on and on and on… I feel sorry for my former brothers and sisters in the great state of Michigan, where the trees are the right height, for they will, over the course of the next few days, be barraged with Citizens United super pac Ads that spell doom for our democracy, a FACT whether or not anyone out there is paying attention or not.  This election is all about CONTROL, and forced birth. The republicans want control of the House, Senate and the Executive so that they may push not only their insane fiscal policy, the same fiscal policy of the not years when George W. Bush put this country in a dumpster, but, moreover, wish to take this country back, way back in many of their socially challenged policies, take this country back to the days of Abraham Lincoln, creating that slave state all over again, not racially motivated this time, no, this time having only to do with the only thing republicans care about, “…the money Arthur”. (credit the great film, circa 1981, “Arthur”, starring the late, great Dudley Moore and Sir John Gielgud).  Rick Santorum is a mule for the one percent even though he comes off as ‘an ordinary guy’, for his message in not one of modern day human experience, no, his experience is one of being a stooge to a plutocratic vision that involves an aspirin of some kind, Bayer I believe, and woman’s knees as well.  One would have to delve deep to find such empty, heartless rhetoric, oh, wait, I’ve got one, taken from a 1976 SNL skit with Jane Curtain, where she was the ‘point’ to the obvious republican ‘counterpoint’ in a ’round table’ discussion, much like we see today on every channel known to man, going something like…“Shana, they bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into, I say, let ‘em crash”. Hallelujah, at least that fake republican actor spoke to the TRUTH as to what they really feel about 99 percent of the people who do most of the living and dying ‘around these here parts’!  Speaking to some plane crash where the corporation could have been at fault, you know, the ‘free hand of the market’.  In essence, that is the attitude of a guy like Rick Santorum, who was soundly rejected by the good voting public in the great state of Pennsylvania, losing to Bob Casey in that Senate race a few years back by 18 percentage points. Meanwhile, you have a guy like Mitt, ‘corporations are people too’, Romney who is so out to lunch regarding the true plight of ‘the American People’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R-KY), that it would be hard to imagine his philosophy gaining the highest office in the land, especially when people are really hurting out there, with no end in sight for many, for as they look through the want ads, they know they’re screwed, because this plutocratic philosophy of global corporate domination by perhaps 400 people or so, seems to be winning perhaps upwards of fifty percent of the voting population in the United States of America, poor, once middle class people, say in Michigan, who are, or will, vote against their own best interests because people like a Karl Rove, or worse yet, an Andy Breitbart, have convinced them that liberals are attempting to force their ‘theology’ (credit Santorum), or their ‘moral agenda’ down every one’s throat, a strategy that was put in place by republicans strategists like Rove, from Crossroads/GPS, or a clown such as Frank Luntz (Google ‘word doctors’), who use focus groups to form the words (talking points you hear over and over again, never straying from that SCRIPT!) that you will hear come out of either a Romney or Santorum, or whoever this crazy republican field puts up in November, should it go to a brokered convention in Tampa this summer.  I’ll give the republicans this, they ARE transparent insofar as they, if you have a trained eye in human psychology, simply PROJECT who THEY really are by claiming ‘the other guy is’, exposing what THEY are really doing and thinking, defining hypocrisy beautifully for ALL the world to sea! These people are insane and the sooner the true American electorate WAKES UP to that fact, the sooner we can start looking very seriously at our dying environment.  Seriously look into solutions, global, that will slow that rate of carbon dioxide spewing by tens of millions of tons a day, into a precious atmosphere WE ALL SHARE, reviewing our collective world wide folly so that WE can leave that beautiful blue rock called earth better than when we arrived, whenever that may have been, a real legacy of LOVE to our children and our grandchildren, not to mention a FAIR tax code, a reformed banking system and shit canning the insurance frauds, called insurance companies, creating a single payer system, just like they have in Sweden, Norway, England, Ireland, France, Denmark, Germany, should I go on?  Big business, or the global plutocratic vision cares not for the 596 deadly chemicals offered up by ‘the brothers’ KOCH’, frackers, not to be confused with the scary fairy tales of ‘The Brothers’ GRIMM’, circa 1806, no, ‘natural’ gas is completely safe and would never destroy our drinking water that say 18 million people in New York City alone, and the surrounding area, depend on…nothing to worry about here, fresh, clean water just represents LIFE itself that’s all.  The only thing David and Charles Koch, neighbors of mine, care about is MONEY and making it by the truck load, caring not for whom, or what they step on in the process.  Make no mistake about it, these people are ruthless and will do anything they can to get their way, including trying to steal the election once again, like they did in 2000 when Al Gore lost to George W. Bush, stealing it by creating, in over 15 states now, tough new voter ID laws, aimed directly at the African-American communities, poorer elderly folks and the young, many of which do not have ‘proper’ state identification.  They will also use Gestapo like tactics of intimidation, using the crazies in that unfortunate party to do their dirty work for them, God knows what that will be, and thus, attempt to strong arm this election away from the WILL of the people, the very core of what this country is about to begin with.  So, on this day set aside for the two aforementioned great men, as well as every other man who has served this most high of offices, we, here at little old seacapecod.net, extend our greatest thanks for your contribution to mankind’s evolution, OUT of tyranny and into the LIGHT that was reflected so well in Thomas Jefferson’s, our third President, words, words you can read for yourself on the Declaration of Independence, a document this reporter would personally like our friends on the other side of the aisle to take a little harder look at–“WE hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.  The elite few have no problem in the bedroom and I imagine they would not be too keen on someone telling them what they can and cannot do.  News flash, WE don’t live in Dubai, this is not an oligarchy, yet, and the true spirit of this very diverse American experience will rise up and CRUSH any attempt by some right wing nut jobs to kill the very essence of what this country was founded upon 237 years ago.  WE have heart. Farewell Angel, Farewell!

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the calm, peaceful, sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this sunny Sunday morning, the twentieth day of February, 2012, a day fitting Whitney Houston whose funeral was held at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey yesterday, as the three hour service mesmerized the entire world watching on either CNN or FOX, seeming to break down those partisan walls we have put up between ourselves, keeping out the LIGHT that was reflected so permanently in our minds eye by that Angelic voice that was Ms. Whitney Houston.  Kevin Costner was on hand and spoke to Whitney’s doubts about her own empirical beauty, her abilities as a performer and her general view that God is always watching over us all.  Speaking to keeping that FAITH, spoken so well by the powerful preacher who raised the roof along with the fantastic choir and amazing celebrity voices that helped usher that wonderful soul into the Kingdom of Heaven, yes, in keeping that faith that Jesus spoke of when he said in effect, ‘…do you see the Lilies in the field?  Do you see that they do not toil or spin?’. That is all that is required of us little human beings, to TRUST in that power that reigns Supreme, for it will keep you and guide you whatever the ‘devil’ may bring, for it is in that Faith that we will sea the LIGHT. God speed Whitney, and from your friends on Cape Cod and the wonderful islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, I offer you and yours ‘Faith Hill’, a simple lifeguard stand at Dowses Beach here in Osterville, a place where I regained my faith, and thus, I pray, on this President’s day week end, WE ALL find that faith again, not in man, but in a power much larger than we can possibly imagine, whatever you may perceive that to be, for if it is based in Love, you are headed in the right direction.     PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Cape Cod Salute

Greetings and that salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the beautifully sunny, mild island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, President’s Day week end, the eighteenth day of February, 2012, as WE, here on Cape Cod and the islands, extend a wish, set aside for presumably all President’s past and present, for peace on earth and good will towards men.  This week end is notably celebrating two of our most profound and important leaders in this great nation’s history, President Abraham Lincoln and President George Washington, two men separated by seventy plus years or so, a real life time in politics, facing the same basic dilemma, tyranny and/or slavery, a problem this nation has faced since it’s inception 236 years ago.  Flash forward to today’s 2012, where the world has become smaller than a micro-chip, where people can reach out and touch ideas once foreign and unavailable to them because of international borders and lack of an instant social media presence, a presence that HAS changed the world forever, thus, brought countries ever closer together.  The one constant one could say about the United States of America, is the fact that WE, collectively as a people, have always stood up for what is RIGHT, such as fighting the atrocities Hitler and the Nazi regime, a true evil on the planet that was wiped out by what Tom Brokaw so profoundly calls, “The Greatest Generation”, a generation that, after winning that bloody war, came home and rebuilt a dying country, barely surviving the Robber Baron’s Great Depression, creating a middle class that, albeit hurt by the greed so prevalent in today’s corporate culture, has begun to return, thanks to the rebirth of GM and Detroit, the backbone of this nation’s freedom from economic tyranny.  May this nation continue to thrive and reach it’s evolutionarily potential, even if it faces tough opposition from some who don’t believe in evolution, let alone science and the empirical facts of Knowledge therein. Trees of Cape Cod

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the rainy, foggy island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Friday morning, the seventeenth day of February, 2012, a mild day with drier conditions at this seven a.m. hour, with the forecast for the week end on the sunny side of the rain storm that will hit D.C. south, missing the northeast altogether, and as I listen to the Cardinal singing outside of my window, looking out onto Cotuit Bay, yes sir, Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, knowing a mating call when I hear one, I suppose the birds who ‘think’ it is Spring will make it through, should we have a cold blast forcing them back into the thicket, for you sea, global warming effects every living creature, both “great and small”–(credit the great author James Herriot who penned a world renown trilogy, based on that country Veterinarian’s life and experience with his patients, beginning with the famous book, “All Things Great and Small”)–not just the poor, the disenfranchised, or those elite, hippy, liberal, filthy bastards clogging up the Internet with all of their FACTS and morality based on the God WE worship… I suppose when the seas do rise, they might begin to take notice, and somehow blame it on those subway riding, one bedroom apartment, always elite, Starbucks drinkin’, fancy book learnin’, intellectual drive by liberal media types who think they know it all, when we, here in the land of plutocratic plundering, WE know better, truly know what ‘the American people’ (credit Mitch, “our number one goal is to defeat President Barack Obama”, McConnell, R-KY) need, they need to wake up and realize there is no free lunch, and this will be good for them, as they sit back and wonder what could have been if they would have been born into a wealthy family, one whose ‘values’ are not necessarily on par with the founder of Christianity, Jesus himself, but hey, we’re only human right? Or is that a corporation? I always get that confused, yes, we, at the plutocratic GOP, again, ‘not your grandfather’s GOP’, will rise above this mediocre mass of people wanting us to continue with the welfare state and plunge them all into the depths of hell that was the Bush/Cheney administration, an administration that put every single man, woman and child in this country into deep, deep, debt, a debt so deep that we are only now beginning, thanks to Obama, to come out of.  As you can see from the image above you, we are cruising at 35,000 feet, no, not really, we are in Truro, at the edge of Cape Cod, where the trees are not only slightly “better” than the right height, but far superior to the trees in the great state of Michigan, a place that was ‘home’ to me as well, I was married there, and thus, am only kidding when I say our trees on Cape Cod are ‘better’ than the trees in Michigan.  Heck, I think they are ALL great, in fact, I think they are so great they deserve to be PRESERVED! What are your thoughts on that Hobson? (credit the late, very great Dudley Moore, and of course, the equally great Sir John Gielgud, of the classic 1981 film, “Arthur”, a must see for anyone who may still have a heart to go along with all of that filthy money you have stuffed in a Swiss Bank account, for money you have Mitt, but, the American people want to sea a heart behind that “man behind the curtain”.   Have a nice week end folks, steering clear of the wooden nickles offered up by FOX “NEWS”, although, I must say, Megan Kelly does not offer up as many of those worthless nickels of ‘wisdom’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘empirical fact’, actually making sense in an interview with a member of congress who was not on ‘their’ side of the aisle, there is still hope.  “I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs”.  James Herriot   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Hyannis Port Light

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the sunny, warm island of Nantucket! Great to be with you and yours on this Thursday morning, the sixteenth day of February, 2012, another beautiful one of Cape, as you look out onto Hyannis Port, former home to our thirty-fifth President of the United States of America, Jack Kennedy, along with his beautiful wife Jackie, and the rest of that extraordinary family (Good Luck to thirty one year old Joseph Kennedy III, grandson to Bobby Kennedy, announcing today his intention of running for the vacant congressional seat available when the great Barney Frank resigned his congressional post in the New Bedford district of this great state of Massachusetts) who changed this country forever, for the better, whether or not their ‘enemies’ agree with that FACT or not.  At a time when America is taking a good hard look in the mirror, not only at themselves, but at the politicians who supposedly ‘have their back’, it is not surprising that a great many of our fellow citizens are also taking a look back at the amazing history this country really has, thus, creating hope for the future generations who will have to deal with climate change/world economic/social issues long after this 112th congress is long gone.  Moreover, how, because of the Internet, WE are all connected to each other and not, as some republicans would have it, “on our own”, hence the moral social “contract with America”, that provides a safety net for “the least among us”, proving once again we are not animals here, human beings, not cattle, and the faster we all get to that place, the better off this country will be for centuries to come.  Ah, but what do I know, when we have conservative bloggers out their like our pal “Andy” Breitbart, pissing off the Dean of Journalism, Mr. Keith Olbermann, host of Current TV’s “Countdown, with Keith Olbermann”, airing every week night at 8 p.m., eastern standard, who let that rather disturbed young man have it but good on last night’s broadcast.  It seems old Andy took a few liberties with the FACTS, at least he is consistent on one front, stating on his website that 17 rapes had occurred at the “Occupy” movement across the globe.  It turns out, after Keith investigated every one of the FALSE claims, that in every case, OCCUPY was the VICTIM of the assaults, many of which were made up to begin with, no police reports backing up ‘ner a one, thus, proving once again that some conservative nut jobs will go to any length to get noticed on ‘TV’.  As Keith correctly pointed out, the women whose names were on this infamous list, ARE the victims of Andy’s little mischievous exercise of hate, and let him know that under no uncertain terms.  God Bless you Keith! Hope ya’ll have a nice day, especially our friends on the other side of the aisle, Rick and Mitt, you are both doing an excellent job of re-electing our 44th President, Barack Obama, to his second term in office, as you beat each other to a pulp in Michigan, the next big primary fight for republicans before ’super Tuesday’, a state that does not take any wooden nickles, nor do they take American Express.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Great to be with you on this Wednesday afternoon, the fifteenth day of February, 2012, a rainy, foggy affair on Cape, as the snow you see above on Dowses Beach in Osterville is long gone, as is the arctic blast we had for only a few days here in New England, prompting one to ask, “does all of that ice melting around the globe have anything to do with milder winters and hotter summers?”… Oh silly liberal, don’t you know that “global warming is the greatest hoax ever played on ‘the American people’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R-KY)” (and for the overall credit please give it up for yet another genius republican Senator, this time, our maniac pilot friend from the great state of Oklahoma, Mr. “get the hell out of the way” James Inhofe)?  Yes, our time gathering more information on republican candidates for the President of the United States of America has been well spent, as it is only the virtue of LISTENING to the words that come out of their mouths that PROVE they are not only behind the times, but not all that concerned about the welfare of 99 percent of our fellow American brothers and sisters, a statement made by our very fine President Barack Obama only minutes ago at a Master Lock plant in the great state of Wisconsin, fired up, speaking to what is a FACT, whether our pal Mitch or James admit it or not, and that fact being that over the course of the past 23 months, this little economy that could of ours has GAINED 3.7 million jobs, with positive feelings and optimism abound for the future, ‘as long as we keep our foot on the gas peddle’, to quote our 44th President of this GREAT country of OURS.  Have a nice day and steer clear of the ravings of radical right wing nut jobs, such as Andrew Brietbart, who sees US filthy, hippy, liberal “freaks” as less than pond scum, when WE don’t wish him ill at all, just some help from a real professional regarding that anger management issue…“oh the humanity”…(credit the great Charlton Heston).   PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Great to be with you on this Saint Valentine’s Day, the fourteenth day of February, 2012, a beautiful one on Cape, as I extend a hearty Valentine’s Day wish of Love, Luck and Joy to you and yours, offering an African Violet in stead of very expensive roses that seacapecod.net cannot afford at present moment…Ti amo baby! It is hard to gather how much love is around the republican party this morning in Washington D.C. however, as Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum gear up not to offer chocolates or a Vermont Teddy Bear to one another, but jabs of a different stroke, a sharp elbow–hopefully, if you are Mitt Romney desperately trying to win the state of Michigan, the next big republican primary–directly into Rick Santorum’s rather loud socially engineered dog whistle, a sound that insists “IT” is the truly severe republican offering to truly take this country back to the 18th century, complete with oil lamps, re-engineered Lighthouses and Paul Revere reborn/reincarnated, wildly riding around on that horse, ‘ringin’ those bells and reloading (while he was riding his horse) ye old musket, firing off those warning shots (again, while on ye ole steed) the British the Americans’ were a comin’…?’ (credit half governor/activist/humanitarian/wolf hater Sarah, “I’m not an idiot, I just play one on TV”, Palin).  Hallelujah! When I was a kid growing up in Simsbury, Connecticut, Happy Valentine’s Day Mom!, my parent’s took me to Barnum and Bailey’s ‘greatest show on earth’, i.e. the circus, and now, 30 years later, I am in awe every day, for that joy I experienced watching the Elephants and clowns work together like magic in motion, is being recreated by this wonderful republican nomination process, a process that is doing more to educate the ‘American People’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R-KY) about who and what the 1 percent (not all, please Google patriotic millionaires’) really WANT and who they really ARE, than anything our very fine President Barack Obama could ever do.  Thank you for all you have done GOP, especially you Andrew Brietbart!  God speed with that anger management issue… Happy Valentine’s Day everybody, welcome back Keith!, and a very special Valentine’s Day wish to Patty Marsan, the wonderful photographer who helped make seacapecod.net a reality, I love you and God Bless you. Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the peaceful, sunny, seasonable island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Monday morning, the thirteenth day of February, 2012, another stellar day on Cape, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees, with calm seas, winds and plenty of sunshine…  Yes sir, it is another week of political brinksmanship and plutocratic horse racing, as the clear choice of austerity versus progress is laid out for all 311 million American voters to sea, although, that is not 100 percent accurate, for WE all know that only a few of US “elite media types” with our Ivy League educations, complete with all of that ‘fancy book learnin’ (credit the comedian Sarah, “mamma Grizzly”, Palin, half governor of the great state of Alaska), have only a small market share of the audience, while over half the country’s population watches FOX “NEWS”, the great propaganda machine that believes and practices in the well known theory, and I’ll let you figure out whom I speak of here, that, “…I know that I can turn a triangle into a square if I just repeat it often enough”.  That is the rub here folks, for it is what makes that engine of exclusion and thievery thrive, or, as was stated so well in the film, “The Usual Suspects”, when the great Kevin Spacey stated, “…the greatest trick the Devil ever played was convincing mankind that he didn’t exist, then poof, just like that, he was gone.” Have a nice day folks keeping in mind that WE all have a stake in this country, and your individual voice is more powerful than you can possibly imagine. Severe Sunrise

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the frigid cold, sunny island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this spectacular day on Cape, Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, Sunday, February 12, 2012, to be precise, with freezing cold sub-zero temperatures outside, bright azure sky and a fierce northern wind, blowing all of that arctic air as far south as Miami Beach.  Last night brought some sad news, however, to the world, at least those with two ears and a heart, as the famous soul singer Whitney Houston died suddenly at the Beverly Hilton in southern California.  Her death is tragic for so many reasons, but she will be remembered for her incredible string of hit songs in the 1980’s and 1990’s, with “I Will Always Love You”, a hit in 1993, being perhaps the most beloved, as it coupled with her incredible performance, paired with Kevin Costner, in the film “The Bodyguard”, a movie that ironically showed part of what a famous singer’s life might well have looked like during that same period in time. Whitney Houston will be missed, as she is most definitely with the rest of the Angels who sing her praises.  I leave the politics to your discretion today, however, should you wish to catch up on the ‘real deal’, check out Chris Hayes’ new show, “UP”, with that very same talented political pundit, only on MSNBC, next Saturday at their new time, 8 a.m., moved up from 7 a.m., as well as Sunday, 8 a.m., for there you will actually gain some insight as to what is really going on with the fun world of politics in America today, circa 2012.  Have a good one everybody and will sea you next week, same bat time, same bat channel.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Great to be with you on this Saturday noon time hour, the eleventh day of February, 2012, coming to you LIVE from a snowed in Cotuit, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’, a rare occurrence this winter, as you look out onto what will be tomorrow’s image of winter’s glory on this beautiful sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age…  Quite a week we just ALL endured would you not agree?  Of course, you can get all of this information by watching the very fine MSNBC week end morning show appropriately named “UP”, with Chris Hayes, airing every Saturday morning at 7 a.m., and Sunday’s at 8, or, you can catch up with our friend Bill Maher, of HBO’s venerable who’s who of ‘what’s up with today’s horse$hit in the hermetically sealed world of the republican offering’, “REAL TIME”, with that same very fine talk show host, who had, as his guest this week, none other than the great Reverend Al Sharpton, who brought his A game, speaking to TRUTH as opposed to the spin that is SPUN every day by the ‘far out on a limb’ GOP, who is floundering to cover some real F ups in the past few months, not being able to wrap their heads around some common FACTS about the plight of OUR PEOPLE!  Of course, you don’t have to take my word for it, you can sea if the sky is truly blue for yourself.  Have a wonderful day folks wherever this ‘message in a bottle’ may be reaching you, wherever in this great big world of OURS indeed, a world, the last time I checked, that is beginning to take a little more CARE itself and, more importantly, of one another.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! February Cape hello

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the spectacularly gorgeous island of Nantucket! Great to be with you on this Friday morning, the tenth day of February, 2012, another stunning day on Cape, as you look out onto Nantucket sound and yet another sunrise, as predicted by Thompson-Reuters, greeted by the Brandt Point Geese, Blue Heron, Cardinal and other woodland creatures that live right outside of a window looking onto Cotuit Bay, ‘where the ocean meets the wood’… I know that my republican friends, of which I have believe it or not, are having a good ‘ole time at the “CPAC” convention, the ‘conservative political action committee’, an interesting group that meets every year to go over their ‘value’ system, talking points handed down from on high, of giving it all to the rich and stiffing the poor, middle class, minorities and many woman’s groups, yes, I know that rather young demographic, average age of participants in the lower 20’s, yes sir, I know many of those good people don’t like to look at things like FACTS, or admit the earth is round and all, but really, can you SEA this FACT?–WE have had, collectively as a country, 23 straight months of job GROWTH, creating over 3,000,000 private sector jobs, while also agreeing to begin looking at our long term national debt, shaving off 2 trillion thus far…leading to a statement by the man all of the kings horses and all the kings men want to unseat in the worst way, President Barack Obama, “…Tonight, the American Auto industry is back”, a statement that gets at the very core of what Clint Eastwood was trying, and succeeded, I might add, to say at half time this past Superbowl week end.  For where the American auto manufacturing industry would have gone, if they would not have been helped by this President, so too, would the rest of American manufacturing and the overall confidence in an industry that BUILT the middle class in this country, proving once again the republican party is out on the furthest limb–just another FACT ‘the American people’ (credit Mitch McConnell, R-KY) will WAKE UP to come November of this year.  People will begin to SEA the blind hypocrisy, greed and lust for power that has put those American people in the back seat of the bus for far too long, thirty years at least, some might say fifty.  Trickle down economics, what a JOKE.  If men like Mitt Romney and the handlers who are ‘for him’ had their way, the plutocratic vision of multinational corporate domination of planet earth and all of her people would finally be set in that Roman stone, the ‘old Chicago school way of Miltonean economics style’, creating two America’s, one of the HAVE variety and one of the have not, a GRAND CANYON that would never be spanned, unless attempted by a man on a motorbike jumping over the Snake River Canyon…  Have a nice day folks and week end, remembering, to quote our Friend Bill Hicks, “It’s just a ride”… PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS!
