New Light

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 3:21 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this last day of the year 2010, and upon that note, I want to wish every person, dog, cat or pelican who may have read this blog over the past 365 days, a very good, blessed and HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I thank you for your patronage, although, to be quite frank, there was never an “angle” in writing this postcard from a little sand bar created over 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age.  The only reason why I put it “out there” is to hopefully REACH some people who may be thinking the same thoughts as I.  There are so many people who have passed my shores over my life, and on this day, of deep reflection, I could not be satisfied unless I thanked some of those people, many, most really, whom I have never met, who have literally CHANGED my LIFE for the better, pulled me out of some dark holes where I found myself in over the course of the 2000’s, and brought the “boat” about, as it were.  So, without further adieu, I would ask your indulgence to recognize said people, who, perhaps, have no idea what impact their work, humanity and LOVE had on my world, a world that was turned upside down in 2003, and now is a whole once again.  The first person I would like to thank, and wish, as I do all of the people whom I am about to mention, a HAPPY NEW YEAR to is Mr. Keith Olbermann, the DEAN of journalism, for it was he that gave me the COURAGE to stand up again and be counted, so to speak, as one who still has a VOICE and IS a member of this GREAT NATION.  Keith Olbermann, of “Countdown, with Keith Olbermann”, airing every week night at 8 and 11 p.m., EST, only on MSNBC, and 2 a.m. for you night owls, is the finest source of TRUTH you can get in this “modern”, crazy world, for it has the integrity to expose that TRUTH and GIVE it to the viewer without any “Angle”. I am in your debt, SIR.  I would also like to thank some other members of the MSNBC staff, namely Rachel Maddow, of the “Rachel Maddow Show”, whose remarkable reporting has transcended the norm and brought forth a new Light that brings us all closer to what we ALL seek–sense and sensibility…  To Mr. Lawrence O’Donnell, of “The Last Word, with Lawrence O’Donnell”, I want to thank for the ‘inside’ view, from someone who has been there, in the Senate, a seemingly broken institution, yet, somehow making sense of it all through some of the toughest times this nation has ever seen.  To Ed Shultz, of the “Ed Show”, who brings the real spirit of FOOTBALL to the game of politics and is not afraid to tackle anyone on the field.  A true PATRIOT. To John Stewart, of, of course, “The Daily Show”, who has truly changed the course of history through the high mindedness, he spoke of in an interview with Rachel Maddow, of real men like Jerry Seinfeld, who can show us just how FUNNY this whole thing called life in America really IS.  Thank your SIR. I wish to thank my parents for bringing up such a boy who would SEE the TRUTH behind the lies, as my mother did, when she convinced me, in 1972, to vote for McGovern, over Nixon, when I was in second grade growing up in Simsbury, Connecticut, and although it was just a scholastic exercise in civic duty and the privilege to VOTE, I learned, from that first experience with politics what Bobby Kennedy was all about–changing my life forever.  For what I have learned over the past 45 years on this little blue rock I call earth is this, “ask not, what your country can do for you, rather, ask what you can DO for your country.” Of course, those were the words of the late, great President Jack Kennedy, who was gunned down for his moral convictions, and to that, I would add a warning to all of those HATERS out there, and you KNOW who you are, and that is this–this country will not go down the way you think it will, for it was not built on WE THE WEALTHY, for it is not a Plutocracy, nor will it ever be.  This country has been blessed by the best, and no amount of GREED, HATE, BIGOTRY or VIOLENCE will ever take away the SPIRIT that was born from REAL MEN like Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or Thomas Paine.  I thank our forefathers, from George Washington and John Adams, to our new forefathers, the REAL STEWARDS of this great land, philanthropists such as Warren Buffet, Ted Turner and Bill and Melinda Gates, who have shown us ALL just how IMPORTANT GIVING, really, GIVING, is, and how that ACT can change not only the lives of the people to whom you give to, but, moreover, how it will enrich your own life, learning, once and for all, that to GIVE is TRULY to receive. I wish you all the very best for the NEW YEAR and may GOD, whatever you perceive him or her to be, continue to BLESS THIS NATION, a nation built on one simple principle, “WE THE PEOPLE”… “sea” you next year!    PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Dune Snow

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this Thursday afternoon, a little late, I know, but better late than never, right?  I thought I would take a walk this morning, on this bright, blue sky day here in Osterville, a walk on the Wianno Golf course, where the fairways are covered with snow and one lone golfer was out with his chocolate lab, playing a little “winter golf”, which I like, sometimes, more than “regular golf”.  There is nothing like the sight I saw today, looking out on the Crosby Yacht club, all of boats in bubble rap, and the color of the inlet that reaches out to Nantucket Sound, listening, of course, to my outdated I-pod assortment of John Denver songs, coupled with a little Stevie Ray Vaughn and Vivaldi.  Quite a mixture I assure you, as we all know that life IS a segway, and just allowing that river to flow, makes it all that much easier to accept that THIS LIFE, we are all living, is the same, a journey, not a destination, and we are ALL in the same boat.  I wonder if the good folks at FOX NEWS ever got that memo?  It seems to me that the correspondence I procured from an unnamed source, pretty much spells out the monolith of stupidity that was so beautifully expressed by Sam Cedar, I hope I spelled that correctly, who is filling in for Keith Olbermann this week, as the DEAN of Journalism needs a break now and again.  I mention Sam’s name because of his fantastic portrait of the “weatherman”, almost as good as Bill Murray himself could have done, as seen in the movie Groundhog Day, where he played a disgruntled weather personality who WOKE up one day, after a long slumber of, well, say, being and assho$e, and realized the importance of KINDNESS and LOVE, the only REAL reason why we are on this little blue rock I call earth, to BEGIN WITH…  But, I digress, as always, for what I wanted to share with you was a piece of “information” regarding our pal Glenn Beck, who leaked his TRUE New Year’s resolutions…enjoy.  AND ACTION! Dear God, hi this is Glenn Beck, I know, you already know that, but, I thought that one of those left wing “academic elites” got a hold of you and turned you against me…  Well, I really only have two New Year’s resolutions, the first being “get me the hell out of here!”, I hate working for Rupert, arrggghhhh matie!, Murdoch and his cohort Roger Ailes, for I truly believe they both work for the devil himself, poisoning our young minds, old minds and middle minds into a universe of STUPIDITY that is going to take this country down–for we all know that education, or rather KNOWLEDGE, combined with being honest with yourself, is the only thing that will set you free, and these maniacs are in bed with a very evil correlation of multi-national corporations who own the politicians and wish ILL upon the poor, the sick and the needy, and, to be quite frank with you, I just can’t stomach it any longer.  The rich got their payout and want more, as they complain about the Obama bend over for Wall Street, as evidence by “men” like Larry Summers and Tim Gietner, who have been giving money, from the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK, at almost zero interest, to firms such as Goldman Sachs who make record profits as they “lend” money out at market rates to the rest of the suckers, thus, insuring they will make the even bigger PROFITS that they will post soon, all in the name of the new “American” modus operandi, PROFIT OVER PEOPLE.” I am tired of looking at men and women, many very educated and talented, in dire need of a job, but cannot BUY one, because the system has been HIJACKED!  This had something to do with me and my insane “tv” show and for that, I am deeply sorry.  For, deep down inside my heart, I know, that what is happening in this great country of ours is WRONG and needs to be CHANGED before it is too late–before the wolves (my apologies to real wolves everywhere) take the final BITE out of the fabric that was holding this country together, namely, the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. So, even if they FIRE me, I will be content, as I know my “sins” on television are not half as bad as the scoundrels who run the country now–”men” like David and Charles KOCH, the KOCH brothers, and all of their pals who meet in Aspen to decide how to pull the strings of the puppets like John, “billy bob”, Boehner and Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell.  My second New Year’s resolution is simple, please give Keith Olbermann my number, so that we can arrange a time so that I may clean his toilet…being raised Catholic, I felt that five “Hail Mary’s” and one “OUR FATHER” would not suffice to clean out my disgusting, clogged, filthy soul as I have been spitting out lie after lie and I feel as though my tongue is about to fall off.  Thank you God, and Happy New Year to all at MSNBC, to whom I could not carry their collective jock strap, people like Rachel, Keith. Ed, Lawrence, Savannah, and all who helped out, such as Sam Cedar, who showed us what shooting a wolf from a helicopter must really look like, especially the folly therein.”  Signed, yours sincerely, Glenn, “I’m just an actor”, Beck…..  and cut, print, wrap. Well, there you have it folks, and you heard it here first, on seacapecod.net, Glenn Beck defected.  Hope you all have a wonderful day and many blessings for the New Year!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  So good, as always, to be with you on this Wednesday morning, the twenty ninth day of December, 2010, and, as I look out my window here on the Cape, I notice something we have not seen in a few days–the sun.  The storm that was the blizzard of 2010 has left the building and left calm seas, clear skies, cold temperatures and plenty of the white stuff on the ground.  We here on the Cape fared better than our friends in say, New Jersey, where they are most likely still feeling the effects of said blizzard and I wish them all luck in pulling their cars out of the snow drifts that were accentuated by the snow plows who buried their cars in a glacier like environment, similar to what I experienced when I moved to Beacon Hill in Boston in the year 1993, March 14th to be specific, when a “no name storm of the century”, now a cliche, slammed Boston with over three feet of snow, then rained a couple of inches, and then froze everything solid, including my Ford Escort Wagon on Charles Street, encasing it in an igloo of sorts, which took a rock hammer to get it out of it’s glacial prison.  Ah, the wonders of winter and travel by mankind.  The epic struggle will continue, as we all know, or rather those who understand that Climate Change is NO JOKE, will know, and if we, as a world community now, do not do something radical about it soon, this last storm of the century will look like a leisurely trip down Aspen mountain on a pair of Olin skis.  The year of 2010 is almost over and with the coming of the new year, comes more of the same nonsense from our political “leaders” who will now be headlined and scrutinized more than they were when they were simply the “party of no”.  No longer can America sit back idly and watch as corporations continue to ship jobs overseas, see record profits, tax breaks for themselves and the one’s who run them, the top one percent, who all claim that tax breaks are the answer, when we all know that a complete overhaul of our tax code, Senate rules, and the unfair advantage that has been built into the “system” for over 50 years now, breaks down and allows for common Americans to have a shot at the “American dream”–which is vanishing, like the glaciers in Glacier National Park, right before our very eyes.  When you have 25 percent of the income generated in this great land going to the top one percent, who have the attitude, many of them anyway, “to hell with the rest of them”, we have a problem Houston! As we have so many or OUR people clamouring to find a job and wondering what will happen next, it is no wonder that the Mr. Potters’ of the world are buying, while the rest of the nation is in panic mode and selling, selling their hopes and dreams down the river, for they feel that no one out there gives a damn, moreover, they feel helpless to do anything about it.  We need education reform, real education reform, in this land if we are to stand up to the multi-national corporations such as bp, who have done nothing for this country save pollute it’s waters and marshes, estuaries and bays, killing wildlife and people’s futures, all in the name of the Almighty dollar, no, if we are to stand up to these ruthless, faceless, nameless sharks (my apologies to real sharks everywhere) then we need some grass roots leaders to stay on it! Not to be a shrinking violet, for the days of assuming the “grown ups” in the room know what they are doing, are OVER!  These so called “grown ups” sold America down the river long ago, in back room deals with OPEC, which had everything to do with the Iraq War, with many other examples that go along with that narrative I could site, but, due to budget cuts, I don’t have the time, just kidding, and when these “grown ups” like our new speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. John, “billy bob”, Boehner, take control of the Legislative branch of our country, we will see them cry out, “we must cut spending” (after borrowing 700 billion dollars from China and the like for the people who need that money the least, the rich) where do you think they will cut?  The states.  The very essence of our democracy, the fifty states that are in dire need of assistance–but none will be forthcoming, for the purse strings are controlled by the puppets who work directly for big business, who could not give a two sh$ts about a) the states themselves and b) the people, especially the poor, the minorities, and the sick, who are the most vulnerable of our peoples, who are just as valuable as any member of the House or Senate, and, in most cases, are probably more honest and caring than say a mouse like Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell, hope you had a nice Christmas Senator!–thus, as these states go bankrupt, as they will most likely now allow them to do (changing the federal law regarding that point), you will see an uprising in this nation, the likes of which you, or I, have never seen before.  So, have a nice Christmas vacation you knuckleheads from the hill and remember, WE will be watching YOU in the upcoming months and WE WILL call you out on your hypocrisy, your INHUMANITY and your IGNORANCE especially when it comes to something as serious as CLIMATE CHANGE!  Have a nice day folks, and remember to tip your waitresses!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Groundless Cardinals

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  So good to be with you on this very cold and still, rather blustery Cape Cod and the Islands.  We experienced quite a storm here on the east coast of the United States of America, all due to CLIMATE CHANGE, mind you, as 4 out 5 (the fifth being bought by the global plutocracy) climatologists agree that the rather obvious melting of the polar ice caps, along with half of Greenland’s ice sheet, not to mention Antarctica’s “something point”, I can’t recall the name at present, a large peninsula the size of Long Island, breaking off into the sea, oh, and lest we forget, the thousands of glaciers across the globe that are disappearing right before our eyes, as ancient native American Eskimos watch as their centuries old civilization literally is being wiped, as they will be, from the face of the earth, yes, this rather obvious fact that you can see from SPACE, aligns all of these CREDIBLE scientists when they say that the wild swings in temperature are the direct result of all of this melting, all due to the FACT that the earth is WARMING rapidly and if something is not done about it, the “issues” Washington D.C. faces now will pale in comparison to what is to come.  The Polar Bear is the shining example of our own plight, sitting on a shrinking ice “berg”, looking for food, and in imminent danger of drowning, for as the world grapples for more and more energy, and as the population grows to 9 billion people by the year 2020, the need for clean drinking water and food will replace the “need” for oil, and the wars that are waged on “it’s” behalf, will switch to wars for said clean drinking water and food–for food will not be as plentiful as it is now, the crops will dry up and blow away as they did in the great “dust bowl” of the early 20th century.  The droughts will be so severe that the once fertile crops, in say, the San Joaquin Valley of California, will become just another part of the Nevada high desert, a veritable wasteland of nothingness, where nothing grows, save cacti and tumbleweeds, for that is what we will be, rambling tumbleweeds, like the great migrations of the animals of Africa, moving from place to place like nomads in search of the basic building blocks of LIFE–water, food, and basic shelter from an increasingly violent weather phenomenon we call CLIMATE CHANGE!  So, to all of you fellow travelers on the “road” at present, I feel your pain, and hope your flight takes off soon and you reach your destination safe and sound.  Have a great day folks and keep the peace and LOVE that was this past Christmas season…flowing in your heart all year round, for like the Cardinal in the window, when you GIVE LOVE, it flies back to you ten fold.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Cold Snow Shower

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this snowy, windy day here on little old Cape Cod, Osterville to be specific, and, if you have a window and live on the east coast, or have a working television, or are waiting to get on a plane at Logan, JFK, or the like, you already realize that we are getting clobbered by a deep hurricane strength nor’easter that is sitting a few miles due east of the island of Nantucket as I write these words.  The low pressure “eye”, if you will, is lower, barometrically, than many hurricanes we have seen even in the past few years, as hurricanes are getting stronger and stronger as the earth continues to warm due to carbon emitted into the atmosphere, and, as a result, you are seeing storms like this one, at the beginning of winter, that are bringing real clocked wind speeds of 80 m.p.h., clocked earlier this morning in Wellfleet, here on Cape Cod, a small village at the forearm, if you will, of this little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the last great ice age.  Eighty miles per hour! Boston received close to 18 inches of snow, but, because of the size of the storm, even places as far south as Newark, NJ received over 20 inches of the white stuff.  To give you some perspective of the wind speeds, at this moment the winds are steady at 40 m.p.h. in Portland, Maine, while hundreds of miles to the south, in Bridgeport, CT, the winds are being clocked at 45 m.p.h., so you can envision just how large that swirling counter-clock wise motion of this storm, or a low pressure system, really IS.  But, remember folks, it’s all a big hoax, as our friend Mr. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, a republican, I believe, said this, famously now, beauty a little while back, “global warming is the greatest hoax ever played on the American People…” Now, in all fairness to our ignorant friend and ‘Senator’ James, the fact that it is so darn cold outside just proves that “global warming” is not true and should be called out as such. He went on to say, “…just ask my gosh darn chiropractor, who has to fix my gosh darn back every time I shovel snow, dag nabbit!”  Poor James, keep f$cking that chicken, for CLIMATE CHANGE IS HAPPENING whether your EGO believes it or not!  Hope you all have a nice day and, stay warm out there New England, check on your neighbors, or better yet, go out there and give someone a blanket, you know, one of them “homeless” people, you may just need one yourself one day.    PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Winter Dune

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:47 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this soon to be very snowy Cape Cod, as a giant weather system coming up from the south will be mixing in with some very cold temperatures to the north causing what some call “snow”, and it will be heavy, especially inland Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and of course Maine, as the strong nor’easter continues to spin off in a counterclockwise motion, as all storms in the northern hemisphere tend to do, leaving much of New England under a white blanket upwards of two feet, perhaps more in the Champlain Valley of Burlington and the surrounding areas, as the “lake effect” snow, which I would be happy to talk to you more about, but I don’t have the time right now because of station budget cuts, oops, was that out loud?, leaving upwards of three feet of the white fluffy stuff, and you gotta say Tim, if this wasn’t Christmas, you’d have a whole lot of angry elves out there, ha ha, um, I’m sorry folks did you want to talk about the weather or just make idle chit chat?  Yes, Christmas is over for another year, and what a year it has been.  We have seen an oil disaster that dwarfed the Exxon Valdez by at least five, spilling at least 5 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, killing wildlife, marshes and people’s lives, whereby they may never, ever recover, as that oil, Corexit 3500 mix is sitting at the bottom of the Gulf, 5 inches thick, stifling the very basic building blocks of life and thus, will affect fishing in the region for the rest of our lifetimes, our children’s lifetimes, and even our grand children’s lifetimes.  This is no joke, and as we all forget about that terrible tragedy, we will see another disaster like this again, yet it will be on land, for the “natural gas” “exploration”, rather, the raping of the land, is being done right now, right here in the good ‘ole USA, where hydraulic fracturing of shale rock, done with high pressure water laced with 596 chemicals is seeping into our water supplies in over 37 states and thus, causing sickness and death to millions of unsuspecting people who don’t know what the slang term for this practice is, “fracking”, and could not care less until it happens to one of their neighbors or themselves.  Take upstate New York for example, oh, and by the way, a big shout out! to my great friend’s in Binghamton, New York and their daughters, have a Happy New Year!, where was I, oh, yeah, upstate New York, where the water supply generated from snow pack in the Adirondacks, the deep lakes, and rivers supply that precious resource for over 18 million people in the greater New York City area alone–this is where they get their drinking water FROM!  Well, in that rural Adirondack Mountain range, companies like the KOCH brothers and Halliburton are buying up huge tracks of land and plan to “Frack” away, and with NO government oversight, due to the “Cheney built”, becoming law in 2005, and what industry insiders call the “Halliburton Loophole” (whereby Cheney removed the teeth from the EPA and thus, allowed these hoodlums to rape and pillage our land, despite what it does to real live HUMAN BEINGS!) these corporations can literally destroy this country from the inside.  Just think about that for a moment.  Who benefits from this poisoning?  You, the Average American?  NO!  Halliburton, the KOCH brothers, and Bechtel Industries do, rather the few men at the top do, who are making BILLIONS on this SHAME, this DISGRACE, this TRAVESTY and they should BE HELD TO THE FIRE!  As the water supply from the tributaries, estuaries, creeks, rivers and the like carry the 596 chemicals into the resevoirs that are created to serve the needs of said millions of people, guess what happens next?  People are going to get sick, very sick and the problem will have gone too far at that juncture, for when you poison anything, be it a river, a Gulf, a piece of land, a person or the mighty ocean, it takes time to heal and must do so or it will most assuredly die.  And when the last fish goes, so does man.  As George Burns said in the movie, circa 1982, I believe, “Oh God”, with the late, great John Denver, “You try and make a fish out of scratch, you can’t do it, and when the last one is gone, that’s it, goodbye world, goodbye planet, goodbye man, over and out.”  Perhaps a little harsh, but if someone doesn’t start saying this real TRUTH a little louder than it is being said on this humble commentary, well then, we are in big trouble.  Have a great day everybody and many blessings and peace for the New Year!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

White Christmas

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:48 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this Christmas morning, the twenty fifth day of December, of course, in the year of our Lord 2010.  Looking out on “Faith Hill” at Dowses Beach here in Osterville, it is plain to see that we are experiencing a very white and sunny Christmas here on the Cape and Islands and judging from the reaction of the congregation at “Our Lady of the Assumption” after our choir gave one of it’s best performances ever at last night’s midnight Mass, the Christmas spirit is alive and well this a.m…  However, Christmas to me would not be complete unless I watched the classic film, well, “It’s a wonderful Life”, for one, but, on this day, I prefer to watch, “A Christmas Story”, that spins a yarn, narrated by an adult, “Ralphie”, and his exploits as a kid growing up in a typical Midwestern town, somewhere in Ohio I believe.  Ralphie, along with his loving mother, cantankerous, yet equally loving father, and his younger brother Randy, who all await this big day with great eagerness, go through the same trials and tribulations we all go through today at the holidays, just on a slightly calmer scale as it seems that life was just a little less complicated “back then”.  Especially Ralphie, as his wish for a “Red Rider BB gun” is tops on his list and he intends to get that air rifle at any cost.  He tries Santa, he tries his teacher, through the art of bribery, by using an apple, his charm or even a brilliant essay that he envisions receiving an A plus, plus a Nobel peace prize if the writers would have thought of that.  But, alas no Red Rider, and as all looked lost, at the very end, his father, spied something in the corner of the living room that Christmas Eve night, where, to Ralphie’s surprise, was a brand new Red Rider BB gun–and let me tell you, from my perspective, I lose it every time, Niagara Falls, Frankie Junior.  You see, many moons ago, my father had lost a job, things were tough and in my darkest hour that Christmas day in Simsbury, Connecticut where I did most of my “growing up”, I was told in a small present under the tree, as I ripped it open in disgust, for it was small, light, and seemed to hold no value at all, as I opened up said box, what was inside frightened and made me even madder.  It told me to go down into the basement to retrieve my Christmas present.  Now, I had always found the basement, as a kid, to be a scary place, especially the place where the furnace was, you know, the creepy unfinished part, where who knows what shady characters could be lurking.  But, to my great surprise, as I walked very hesitantly down those stairs, was the gift I had always wanted since, well, forever, at least at that moment in “time and space”, and that being a full size air hockey set.  And there it was.  I remember how happy my Dad was at that moment, but it did not match how much LOVE I felt for him that day, how much it meant to me, how much I knew he had to sacrifice to give that air hockey dream to me when he could have just as well bought me a “football”. So, on this Christmas morning, I just want to take a moment to shout out to my Dad, wherever he may be at this moment, Merry Christmas DAD and I LOVE YOU!, and that gift, that simple, elegant, gesture of LOVE is still the greatest Christmas present I have ever received, and perhaps ever will, for it showed me the power of GIVING, and it is in the GIVING that we truly receive.  I love you DAD!  Merry Christmas Everybody and may GOD keep you and yours into this next year.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  So good to be with you on this Christmas Eve morning, about 7:30 a.m., EST, here in the little seaside village of Osterville.  All is quiet this morning, however, I will be at a jammed packed “midnight” Mass in a few short hours, at 6 p.m., as this town has more seniors than it does teenagers and thus, makes a real midnight Mass, well, impossible for most.  I sing in a choir, for the past 3.5 years, at my parish at “Our Lady of the Assumption”, a small, elegant chapel built back in 1905, the year my grandmother was born and it has served as a real Catholic church for decades now.  I have sung in that dear choir, filled with wonderful people who give it all when it comes to bringing forth the holy spirit that moves us all through music, especially the voice, and brings about a sense of peace that one usually only finds if one is in quiet reflection.  Quiet reflection, yes, quiet reflection.  It seems hard to do these days with a 24/7 news cycle, emails, twitter, Face book, children running all over the place, presents to buy, bills to pay, constant holiday background music that is truly driving you insane, for even though you like the song, it is impossible to enjoy it while you are on the land line, texting someone, answering the door, baking a cake, fixing the brakes on your car, putting up more lights on the tree, feeding the cats and dog, vacuuming the house, doing the dishes, making Christmas cookies, answering all of those backed up emails, all while clamoring to pick up your dad at the airport for a “surprise” visit…ah, the quiet reflection of all that.  That, my dear friend Nikki, is why I sing in the choir with “all of those old people”, people whom you should get to know, for it is with our elders that we find the answers, the wisdom and the KNOWLEDGE that has been passed down through the ages–wisdom passed down to YOU, and to me.  You see, my significant other’s son, asked me that question the other day, asking me if I were embarrassed to be singing in the choir, no, he said, “you know what’s embarrassing?  Singing in the choir.”  I was insulted, at first, at his comment, thinking to myself, well, a few choice words, and then, coming to my senses, realized that this was merely a messenger, as I had encountered this before.  When I was just a lad, only 7, I picked up the Viola and studied under Sikorsky in Connecticut, then, upon moving to California, began studying, at the ripe old age of 13, at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where, as we lived in Petaluma, California, about 35 miles from the city, my father would drive me every week end for my day of intense lessons with my Viola, along with the study of music theory, all while studying the greats of music we know and love today–Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi, Hayden, Mozart, you know the big guys.  I remember carrying that Viola case into my new high school in Boulder, a few years later, Fairview High School to be precise, and getting picked on relentlessly for being a “fag” for playing in the orchestra, as I practiced every day since I can remember, for 2 hours before doing my homework or playing outside with my buddies.  I remember how it felt when someone tried to tell me how I should “feel” about something, something I loved so much–music.  The fact that I got upset with Nikki is irrelevant and something that I should have brushed off as nonsensical ignorance.  However, I had to go to the core of what bothered me so much about it, and suddenly it hit me, I was ashamed at being who I am.  Never, ever be ashamed of who you really are, for by discovering that TRUTH once again, finding that voice, that we all have deep within us, and expressing it in any manner that does not hurt another human being, rather enhances their LIFE experience, is OK in my book, and, I might add, highly rewarding.  For it is in GIVING this gift Acknowledgement, along with Attention and ultimately Acceptance, that we learn to love another human being, and truly see ourselves in that “other” human being– (as hard as that may seem at times) beyond their physical form and certainly beyond their political stripe.  So, on this beautiful day here in little old Cape Cod, Massachusetts, I bid you and yours a fine and fair adieu, a wonderful Christmas Eve, with plenty of cheer, joy and LOVE, but most of all PEACE, for it is in finding that peace, love and joy within yourselves, that you are equipped to give it away to others.  May the spirit of Christmas be upon you today, and throughout the year!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this cloudy day here in Osterville, Massachusetts, the little hamlet that sits a football throw away from the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, just to the east of us, five miles as the Osprey flies, where some 50 years ago, the first Catholic president of the United States, Mr. Jack Kennedy, along with his beautiful wife Jackie and the rest of his amazing family including Bobby, Teddy, Eunice, Joe and Rose Kennedy, just to name a few, were all enjoying this season right here in the way most of us still do today…putting up Christmas trees, singing in the choir, putting up those pesky Christmas lights, as was once noted in the famous movie, Christmas Vacation, starring our friend Chevy Chase, and looking out at the sea with wonder as we all enjoy a stroll on the now famous Dowses  Beach here in Osterville.  There were many things that that stellar President could have accomplished if his life were not cut short by who knows, but it may not have matched what our current President, Barack Obama has accomplished during these first two years of his presidency, a presidency mired with the words “no, no and no” over and over again.  Not because they were bad ideas or policies, rather, because of the fundamental and profound differences they have in their vision of where they want to take this great country of ours–namely backwards or forwards. Case in point, the historic signing into law the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that was put into place 17 years ago, where it essentially told men and women who serve and protect US ALL, that even though they could take a bullet, they could not tell people who they really were and are, thus, living in a lie not only to themselves, which is hard enough, but to live in a lie where the whole premise of the code of the military is to keep one’s HONOR, by telling the TRUTH no matter what.  An historic moment for the president and my hat is off to him and his family, his beautiful wife Michelle Obama and their daughters who serve as LIGHTs all unto themselves, who I believe will accomplish great things in their lives to come.  I bid you Mr. President, and your family a wonderful Christmas, only two days away, and many, many more to come.  I also wish you a Happy New Year with plenty of fight left in you to tackle this whole “climate change thing” for it is more important than anything else on the world’s agenda, TRUTH be told. But, wait, I’m not finished yet.  In this “lame less duck” session, a headline I wrote only a month and a half ago after the republicans swept the House of Representatives, here is another WIN for not only the President, but more importantly the good men who fought and are dying all due to their efforts to save as many people as they could that very dark, dark day in our nation’s history, the attacks of 911–the bill, that has been held up by “men” whose names do not deserve to be mentioned on this blog, passed yesterday, giving those men and women the 6.1 billion dollars they need to GET WELL and perhaps live another day on this little blue rock I call earth–WOW! YOU could not ask for a better Christmas present than that.  Also, in this “lame less duck” session, the START treaty, the nuclear arms verification treaty with Russia that started back in the Reagan administration, also passed into LAW, making the world a safer place FOR our children and grandchildren.  Not too shabby for a waddling lame duck that was not shot by some yahoo hunter who likes to dress up in Nazi uniforms on the week ends.  Here is a rather long partial list of the other accomplishments this great President has achieved in his two years in office, two years of living hell I might imagine, for he was met at the bargaining table with no one there, save his faith and his convictions of what is RIGHT and what is WRONG…. AND ACTION! 1. Health care reform (to the tune of providing health insurance to over 35 million Americans) 2. Wall Street reform (curbing some of the wild speculation practices of big banks and hedge funds with YOUR 401 (K)’s, etc.,) 3. A hate crimes prevention ACT  4. credit card reform (creating a consumer protection agency with a great woman from Harvard Law) 5. student loan reform (taking out the middle man when students are going for loans to pay for college)  6. Lilly Ledbetter fair pay act  7. the auto bailout of GM and Chrysler, whose names have been equated with the American working middle class since Henry Ford first started creating model T cars all across this nation, and with that innovation, put millions of men and women back to work, creating that manufacturing base that CREATED the middle class  8. The Recovery Act  (that saved millions of jobs that would have been lost to attrition, yet were saved along with the rest of us who would have gone off a cliff were it not for the steady hand of this great president in navigating tough financial and political waters)  9. The food safety act   10. clean energy investment  (the largest on record, as we attempt to catch up with our competitors such as Germany, China, Brazil, India and the like, as they are racing ahead with green technology that WE all will soon be using) 11.confirming two women to the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court-one Hispanic, yet another milestone  12. creating a possible real bi-partisan environment by not losing his cool, as I would have, with a bona fide effort to reason with men, who, for the most part are un-reasonable.  What, as Chris Hayes, of the Nation Magazine, and pinch hitting last night for the most excellent Mr. Keith Olbermann, of “Countdown, with Keith Olbermann”, airing every week night at 8 and 11 p.m., and 2 a.m., for you night owls, only on MSNBC, was quoted, by a bland republican spokesperson, Senator Sessions from Alabama, a republican of course, and what was said, was, in a word, when asked about the 111th congress and their accomplishments, well, in a word….remarkable...and I quote, ” It was a disaster…”  For whom Senator?  FOR WHOM?  He, the fine Senator from Alabama, went on to grumble in his head, “at least we got the tax breaks for my employers, you know, “the man behind the curtain,” and my friends, the wealthy, (some of whom are mine as well) for as we all know, they deserve a little less “uncertainty” (see talking point #59698) in these trying times (times where the top one percent in this nation gain 25 percent of the national income) and therefore, can now buy that house on Maui without concern for their taxes that will never go up, and for that I am truly thankful.”  E.J. Dionne, of the Washington Post put it best when asked how this all got done in a “lame less duck session”, no pun intended John… His response was that it took the guts of Harry Reid from Searchlight Nevada and Nancy Pelosi from San Francisco, California  to make a real commitment to really use that power of the majority and accomplish real assets for the “American People”, not a shadow statement of said “American People”, proving to the electorate who the good guys really are and SHAMING those, well, who are NOT. HELP for the 911 responders right before Christmas morning is perhaps the greatest Christmas miracle of them all, a true “MIRACLE ON 34th STREET” and to the credit of Mr. John Stewart of the Daily Show, big time, and even to my friends at FOX NEWS, whom I chastise a little harshly sometimes, I thank you for your efforts as well, especially to Shep Smith, of FOX NEWS, for he showed some real courage of his own in facing down this demon and it rang true, a credit to the industry and a credit to your network–Merry Christmas to you too sir and well done!  As E.J. stated, the only problem Obama has had is selling these visions of a better America for all, and indeed the world, to said “American People” and in doing so, will not only EDUCATE the population, making them better, healthier and informed citizens, but will make it a better society for all, so that we can stop the quibbling over junior high school antics of “he said, she said,” that accomplishes nothing and only serves to turn the American population off.  So, Merry Christmas Mr. President, to you and yours this blessed day and have a safe journey to Hawaii, say hi to a dolphin for me would you?   Have a great day everybody!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

East Bay Christmas

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 12:02 pm

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning in, as evidenced by the image of East Bay here in Osterville, a real White Christmas that even Bing Crosby would be proud of.  We are expecting yet more snow this afternoon, so, if you are planning on visiting us this week end, plan accordingly…”we’ll leave the LIGHT on for ya!”  So, it has been an historic few days for the President of this fine country, President Barack Obama, as he was able to finally pass the much maligned and outdated practice the armed services once called, “don’t ask, don’t tell,” by a fairly large bi-partisan vote in the Senate.  Congratulations to those Senators who stepped forward, including Connecticut independent Joe Lieberman, who showed some real backbone…kudos.  The START treaty, the nuclear arms treaty with Russia that needs to be ratified in that same chamber SOON (for obvious reasons) is up for a vote today, which, of course, should be a no brainer, but who said anything about brains or integrity in the Senate or House, with notable exceptions for men like Bernie Sanders of Vermont and congressman Anthony Wiener of New York, who have proved there is a GOD and the holy spirit is working in them as well.  Perhaps the biggest TRAVESTY is the hold up on a 6.2 billion dollar, chump change, settlement for the first responders after the 911 attacks.  This is a bill that has already been paid for and should be the (as the republicans have used the words “911″ ad nauseum for their own political gains for a decade now, while these real MEN have been getting sicker and sicker after saving as many lives as they could that very, dark, dark day in this nation’s history) number ONE priority of said REPUBLICORP, I mean republican party.  I have never in my life seen such garbage as to what I heard out of our old pal Tom Coburn’s (R-OK) mouth when he said there should be more “studies” on this situation, after there have been exhaustive study after study of just that very point.  Moreover, he heads the committee overseeing this horrible tragedy, and, yesterday, did not even bother showing up for HIS MEETING for HIS STUDY!  Well, a very Merry Christmas to you sir, I don’t know how you sleep at night and I’m sure that Santa has a big piece of coal for you that will appear in your stocking, but wait, that is probably exactly what you want, maybe it will be a clean burning coal just for you, and you and the KOCH brothers can laugh all of the way to the bank, as you hoodwink people into believing we would really ever use that technology, it wouldn’t be “fiscally” prudent “at this juncture”…  Have a great day folks and remember to not take any wooden nickels that might appear on any of the FOX NEWS stations and their insane talk show hosts.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Colorado Blue Spruce

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this, well, in a word, very snow bound Cape Cod, Osterville to be specific and, looking at the image above, you can clearly see that this looks more like the mountains of Colorado, where I used to live, than the sandy beaches of Cape Cod.  Europe is feeling this same effect, what “effect” that is, is now up to the politicians who run the whole “Global warming is the greatest HOAX ever played on the American People…”  Leaving that aside, for a moment, I want to wish you and yours a very good morning and fine day ahead, as we ease on into the Christmas season that has seemingly made this country go temporarily insane.  “Christmas to you Ted, what does that mean, to me, it’s a living hell.” Quoting, of course, from the very fine movie Airplane! starring the late, great Leslie Nielsen, who, along with his late, great co-actor, gave us all another profound quote, those with a sense of humor, stating, when asked a question of whether or not he was serious, stated, in no uncertain terms, “I am serious, and don’t call me Surely.” So, here we ALL are on this twenty first day of December, 2010, awaiting, what, WE are not sure.  Perhaps, it is the WAKING up of our nation to the bulls$t that has transpired over the past 30 years, living in a literal “Stockholm Syndrome”… thanking our overlords for extending the unemployment benefits for over 7 million Americans who lost their jobs through no fault of their own (in exchange for 700 billion dollars for the rich), rather, through the republican party who is in bed with the global corporate agenda, hell bent on killing our brothers and sisters one cruel “slam dunk” at a time.  Honesty, Ted, what does that mean to you? Apparently the souls of those that are about to take the mantle of “power” have lost their way and have no way to find those bread crumbs that were left, by Hansel and Gretel, as they were eaten by the birds that were hungry, for their wildlife sanctuaries, their true HOME, have been taken over by the likes of the KOCH brothers and all of the rest of the scumbags who met in Aspen recently planning on another “fracking deal”… you know who you ARE. I want US ALL to KNOW what is up and if the TRUTH is to be known, WE must all take a step back, especially in the media, and ask ourselves, collectively, “what the hell are we doing here…”  A quote from the great film “Dead Poet’s Society” put it best, as the boys in cave read poems, one says to the rest, “we read these poems, and if we aren’t going to doing anything about it, then what the hell are we doing?”  You can put that to the test, for if the words of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and the rest of our founding fathers are to mean anything, we MUST take a stand for the TRUE nature of those words and deeds that those real men of yesteryear communicated to create a more perfect UNION, a union that is between us poor human beings and our creator, who does not think too much about uncontrolled GREED and POWER, that, in the end, power, does not lie with those who “think” that they have the power, but within the CREATOR who created THEM.  Have a wonderful day!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Snow Boat

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!!  So good to be with you on this very snowy day here in Osterville, Massachusetts, a stone’s throw away from the great Hamlet of Hyannisport, where, some long ago day, the Kennedy family was doing what we are all doing right now, “just freaking out” on how to get that last Christmas card in the mail… We have received about 4 inches thus far from a powerful ocean storm that missed the often battered New England coast, who has seen more of it’s fair share of the increasing climate change that keeps us ALL honest.  On this twentieth day of December, 2010, I bid you and yours a fair and fine adieu, and, as WE, at least in the media, take a break from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, and perhaps, take in a Christmas stroll from Nantucket to Chatham, if you ever wish to  visit this “neck of the woods” during this amazing season in the very best part of America, forgive my bias, I pray that WE, those in the KNOW, take that time to realize what WE can collectively do to change the hearts and minds of America.  For, as WE all know, WE live in a media circus, where finding FACT and deciphering it from FICTION is not only a full time job, but one that needs to be done now, more than ever.  Not to sound overly dramatic, and to quote Mr. Eddie Murphy, “would it kill us to give a blanket who needs one?”  Linus never thought so. Have a wonderful day and keep the faith, for, in the end, that is all we really have, that, and EACHOTHER. PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Faith Hill Christmas

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:13 am

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  So good to be with you on this Sunday morning, the nineteenth of December, 2010, and, as evidenced by the image you see above you, coming directly from what I coined “Faith Hill”, a 17 foot dune that houses a small lifeguard station here at Dowses Beach in Osterville, the Christmas season is fully on. If you look carefully, you may see a seagull flying high over head, looking down on us poor humans who might have forgotten what the real meaning of this season IS.  As I look to the Sunday talk shows, that just started a few moments ago, for “guidance”, I am always reminding myself that you cannot change the world, only YOUR perception of it, and by doing so, may indeed WAKE some up, by sharing, and create a better world for all.  That is my prayer for you and yours this sixth day before Christmas, to open up your hearts and GIVE to the spirit of the season that millions of Christians around the world call Christmas…a time to fully realize what that man who walked the earth 2000 plus years ago said, “LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU…” Have a great Sunday and don’t take any wooden nickles!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

December Berries

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this Saturday morning, the slow “news” day of the week, the eighteenth day of December, 2010, one week before Christmas.  I pray you and yours are doing well, although many, in our great country, are not.  A follow up to the John Stewart show, rather the “Daily Show”, although WE all know, remains the HOUSE that JOHN built forever, regards the only credible station still on the air–MSNBC.  The good folks at that station, and I will name them by name, starting with Mr. Keith Olbermann, then moving to the very great and courageous Rachel Maddow, the equally reverent and intelligent Lawrence O’Donnell, Savannah Guthrie of the “Daily Rundown”, Ed Shultz, of the “ED SHOW”, who IS a real American Hero, and finally to the good folks at “Morning Joe”, with Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, (not to mention the great contributors, such as Mike Barnacle, Willie Geist, and the great political analyst Chuck Todd) have done US all a great service, by providing REAL reporting that holds the line, as in a football game, and keeps it REAL, so that this nation, those not ASLEEP, can take those FACTS and make up their own mind as to what is right and what is WRONG.  I was watching Keith’s show, “Countdown, with Keith Olbermann”, only on MSNBC, airing every week night at 8, 11 p.m., and for those who stay up late, 2 a.m., last night and, filling in for Keith, was the very great Chris Hayes of the Nation Magazine, a MUST READ, who re-iterated what John was saying about the TRAVESTY of the republican party’s FAILURE to pass a measly 5 million dollar health/LIFE bill for the HEROES of 911, who are sick now because of their efforts to save as many lives as they could on that very dark day in our nation’s history.  Again, for all of us, SHAME ON YOU REPUBLICORP! You have once again proved yourself, as an organization, that you are, and, I will plagiarize, with permission, Keith’s words, the “Worst Persons in the WORLD!”… and, I don’t mean (NOT REALLY).  We have seen the suffering in this grand nation of ours, and as the rich get richer, we see the letters going to Santa to the Chicago post office, heartbreaking letters from people with children, wives, grandmothers, real Marines and every other person you can think of whom they may love, whose only wish this Christmas, in the year of our LORD, 2010, is food, clothes and, in one case, a blanket for their grandmother, who is taking care of a little girl while their mother, only 33, lies paralyzed for she was hit by a train…presumably going to a slave job that pays her 7 bucks an hour.  If you want to contribute to that cause, as did those great people I just mentioned (to the tune of 10,000 dollars), you can log on to COUNTDOWN.MSNBC.COM and think about, really think about, what the Christmas season REALLY means and indeed what it IS all about.  So, have a wonderful day everybody and if you don’t have the money to give to that cause, you can always go out of your house, look around, and see if someone out there is hungry, or is in need of a blanket, and just say, here. I love you people.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

We Won’t Forget

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this very beautiful, yet, very cold morning here in the grand village of Osterville, Massachusetts, a place I hold as close to my heart as what I am about to write to you regarding an interview with Mr. John Stewart, of the “Daily Show”, only on Comedy Central, who gave, on his last show of this year, of our Lord, whatever Lord that may be, 2010…  The show, revolved around the Usual Suspects, ironic, as I had just witnessed a great piece by Keith Olbermann conducted with the great Kevin Spacey, regarding the new movie about Jack Abramoff, called Casino Jack, the much maligned “fall guy” for the BUSH era garbage pail politics of old.  Anyway, getting back to my original point, the show that John put on was about that same hypocrisy that has failed this country time and time again…namely, giving to those who may or may not have caused a national tragedy, causing this great country of ours to go into an abyss of paranoia and fear mongering, all in the name of the almighty dollar, the POWER to not even help their number one talking point–911!! His guests, on last night’s show, which you should Google if you wish, were real MEN who RESPONDED to the attacks of 911 (police, fire, union, and the general makeup of the good guys out on our front lines in this country), and the fact that the likes of Mitch, “the mouse”, or rat if you prefer, McConnell, blocked a measly 5 million dollar bill to HELP those who helped those in need at their most dark hour.  SHAME ON YOU! These real men pulled no punches in saying they thought it a privilege to work during the “CHRISTMAS SEASON”, for they knew that the whole point of the “CHRISTMAS SEASON” is based in Jesus Christ’s words, and those being, LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU! Hello, McFly, is this thing on?  I was stunned and honored to watch some very brave and wonderful MEN, who dropped any partisan bullsh$t, and saved as many lives as they could, yes, those same MEN have been denied little things like health insurance to cover the catastrophic conditions that they now face BECAUSE of their efforts in that attack.  So, to my “friends” on the “right”, I say this…buck up and put your MAN pants on, because WE ALL KNOW what you are up too.  Have a great day and GOD BLESS THE DAILY SHOW, the writers and the great host, Mr. John Stewart, who has proved who the real “American heroes ARE”…  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with YOU on this Thursday morning here in the republican nation of Osterville, Massachusetts…I’m just kidding, of course?, but, I kid out of LOVE, for if we take a good look ahead, as any good Light keeper does, you will know that the republican congress that IS taking over this country in the name of the almighty dollar, should not blurt out statements like the one I am about to make…because of the Christmas season and the sanctimony therein, in the name of Jesus Christ himself, I am taking a two week vacation from this blog in honor of a man who brought forth a statement such as LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU. For, again, in the end, what really matters is that these “men” in puppet clothing, need a break from their arduous task of creating yet another LOOPHOLE for the wealthiest among us, holding OBAMA hostage (Stockholm Syndrome) by demanding the federal government borrow 700 billion dollars from China in order to extend the BUSH era tax cuts. In return, they will be “giving” the people who can’t buy a job because everything has been “shipped” overseas, including our money and future, unemployment benefits for a measly 13 months, while DEEP down these “fiscally” responsible conservatives KNOW a way out of the whole mess of the “American people”…namely cutting social security, medicare, medicaid and any social program that has progressed this country from the depths of 1861.  So, again, like my fellow republicans in the Senate and House, as well as my friends here in Osterville, I will take a break from my blog in honor of the man who once said, “the greatest LOVE you can give your brother is to lay down your LIFE for him.”  Of course, I could be LYING.  Good Luck with that Mr. Boehner.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this Wednesday morning here in Osterville, Massachusetts, snuggled in at the southern edge of Cape Cod proper, somewhere in the middle of the little sand bar created 11,500 years ago by the Last Great Ice Age… What’s happening out there?  I hope all is well with you and yours and that the Christmas spirit is reaching you in ways that you may have never experienced before.  So much to talk about, what with the Wikileaks “issue” of censorship and the FACT that the “powers that be” want the general world public, who IS caught up in the whole “global commerce thing”, to be kept in the dark about everything from wars to world banking, yet, according to those same powers, should not be allowed to KNOW the TRUTH as to what our government and industry tell us on a day to day basis… as they keep the poor, poor and uninformed, they say, something to the effect, “just trust us”, we know what is best.  Yeah, like the Iraq War, an illegal war, that killed over 70,000 innocent Iraqis along with over 4400 of our American men and women in uniform…  Something like that?  Ah, the fame and fortunes of little men with a little power.  It always goes to their heads.  So, on this day of sanitized crap you will most likely see on cable news, especially our friends at FOX NEWS who recently ripped off the very excellent work coming from the real journalists at MSNBC, whose new slogan “MSNBC–Lean Foward” has been plagerized by an otherwise idiot writing staff who coined their, FOX NEWS’ new slogan–”FOX NEWS–move forward”–which is so much better and more clever, would you not agree Rupert “argghhhh”, Murdoch?  Well, thought I might just add a little note of wisdom to a world that could obviously USE some.  Don’t take any wooden nickels, especially when it comes to information coming from the plutocratic station called “the house that Roger built.”  Have a great day!    PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this very chilly day here on Cape Cod proper, the fourteenth day of December, 2010, a day with plenty of sun, but, with an air mass filled with the cold left over from the melting ice just to the north of us–namely the place where Santa has his workshop…  I was not going to write a blog today, but after finding out about Richard Holbrooke and his passing late last night, I felt an obligation to say a few words about a dying breed of diplomats who are not in bed with global financial institutions, hell bent on taking from the poor and giving to the rich.  We, must take a moment to honor a man who saved millions of lives in the once war torn area of the former Yugoslavia, as well as his efforts in Vietnam, where he was the author of the “Pentagon Papers”, eventually working his way through the matrix that IS Afghanistan…he will be missed and IS in a better place–a place that has no war, no ego, or agenda.  GOD SPEED SIR KNIGHT! On a lighter note, if there is one in today’s news, is the now rhetorical and cliched republican hypocritical head rearing, said, ugly head, once again–as they had no problem passing, rather, forcing a 700 billion dollar tax break for the rich, while at the same time, abandoning their number one talking point, 911, and, moreover,  the men and women who responded to that alleged “attack” on that fateful day, giving them nothing as they use that tragedy for their own political ends.  It seems that the republican lock step would not GIVE roughly 500 million dollars to the families of the first responders to that tragedy, lumping them in, as John Stewart noted on last night’s “Daily Show”, only on Comedy Central, with the Mexicans, with a bill for a pathway to citizenship called the “Dream Act”, as well as the gays and lesbians with the much maligned DADT, “don’t ask don’t tell”, where service members are asked to put their lives on the line for our county, yet cannot be themselves and are asked to lie about WHO they are as human beings… Well done, REPUBLICORP! You have, once again, proved yourselves to be the biggest Ass’s in the world, ironic, no?  So, on this glorious day here in Osterville, I bid you and yours a fair and fine adieu, for WE ALL KNOW, in the end, what the late, great Jimmy Stewart was saying in that classic “holiday” film, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, when he looked at Mr. Potter, the scum of the earth, and said, “you’re nothing more than a screwby little spider…”  Have a great day everybody and KEEP the FAITH, it is always darkest right before the DAWN.  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Charlie Brown Christmas

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  So good to be with you on this Monday morning, the thirteenth day of December, 2010, a bleak and chilly day here on the Cape, Osterville to be specific, a tiny, tiny little hamlet in the middle of Cape Cod proper, where the Osprey flies and the coyote rambles… I saw a coyote outside of my home here on Oak Ridge Road, just last night, and seeing his magnificence gave me spring hope eternal for a better world yet to come.  The Sunday talk shows were, in a word, predictable, yet, as I watched CBS’s “Sunday Morning”, formerly hosted by the late, great Charles Kuralt, now, with the equal measure, the very good Charles Osgood, I witnessed the story of Dick Van Dyke, and his 85 years of giving BACK to society through LOVE, LIGHT and FROGS.  In the piece, his story has never swayed from who he IS…and, that, being a man of LOVE and integrity that he only wishes to share with the world, a seemingly cold and desperate place filled with pain and misery.  Yet, it does not have to be so. It can be filled with the light of another Charles, Mr. Charles Schultz, as embodied in my little, tiny, tiny Christmas tree I planted in my front lawn in HIS honor many moons ago.  So, on this cold and wet Monday morning, I bid you the very best of feelings and blessings to capture the SPIRIT of the SEASON–be that Hanukkah, Christmas, Romadon, or whatever floats YOUR boat.  Have a great day!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M

Greetings and salutations from the sand, sun and surf of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and the great island of Nantucket!  Great to be with you on this Sunday morning, a few moments before the “Sunday Talk Shows” that are increasingly becoming more and more the “must see tv” of the week…if you are into that whole politics “thing”…  The reality IS that WE, collectively, ALL should be involved in the discussion, for without KNOWLEDGE, we are merely slaves to whatever the corporate powers that are currently running things in Washington D.C. wish US to think, feel, or do in our day to day lives in this great country of ours.  So, listen, please, listen to even the dull and the ignorant, for in doing so, you WILL get to the truth about what is really happening–for it is like a poker game, you can always tell, in the  video tape, if someone is LYING…be it a politician or a pundit, and, by deciphering that code, you will discover the TRUTH, being in the position to make a valuable JUDGEMENT as to what their REAL intentions are and are NOT…  Have a great day and keep the faith!  PRESERVE THE WILDERNESS! Peace~M
